Why did it fail?

Why did it fail?

it was artistically interesting but it was basically a isekai for western cartoonists without an engaging plot

not nearly enough Brad Pitt

The writing was fucking shit and it was a little too unnerving But best girl here was best

it's just a bunch of disjointed trash. couldn't even finish this shit.

1. It needed to be rated R.
2. Kim Basinger is awful. She drags down the entire second half of the film.

It was complete and utter nonsense

Movie producer had a shit script rewritten for the movie that made no fuckin sense.

Everyone else already pointed it out.
Bakshi has a terrible habit of incoherent, weak plots, and Cool World is the most schizophrenic of the lot. the best thing about it are the backgrounds.
I just watched Fire and Ice last night and I have to say, im fucking tired of overt sexualization in cartoons after that empty shitpile.

not enough Gabriel Byrne

The prequel comic that was storytimed here last year was phenomenal.
The following comic that went through the films story was dull as fuck though.

>im fucking tired of overt sexualization in cartoons after that empty shitpile.
If you think that's bad then I hope you never watch or read anything from France because those fucks make our shit look like pussy shit.

No really Most French comics and cartoons are overrated as fuck and the only reason why some anons praise them is because they think french T&A = Good

The script was totally rewritten by Paramount's executives, it doesn't remotely resemble Bakshi's original idea which was gonna be about a live action guy and an animated woman's horrifying mutant demon baby. The movie was bastardized so bad Bakshi actually punched the Paramount guy's lights out.

PLEB ALERT

Eat ass you wannabe bourgeoisie!

Make me!

Open that whore mouth of yours again and I will.

OH YEAH!

it was trying to hard to be edgy WFRR without any of the likablity or cohesion.

>The movie was bastardized so bad Bakshi actually punched the Paramount guy's lights out.
Bakshi probably got blacklisted for it and that’s why he doesn’t make movies anymore.

or that hes a lazy pervert that cant deliver films on time or on budget. or all his films that arent him masturbating about new york are shit. and even then, are rough around the edges to a degree you have to worry about tetanus.
Bakshi just isnt a great artist.

Because it was too perverted for general audiences.

Why not both? Although personally I feel that rewriting a script withouth telling the original writer is a dick move

The studio threatened him with a lawsuit if he didn't complete the film.

They weren't ready for their whyboners. It would take a new generation, a stronger one, to embrace the future that is /d/ and to a lesser extent /aco/.

Did you fucking watch it?

It tried to tell people they couldn't fuck their cartoon waifus.

love this fucking building

plot is kinda dumb, you get killed by a toon you become a toon. I mean what?

It failed because Ralph Bakshi didn't punch the producer hard enough.

He's a dick of a man, and i have no doubts the original script was a dumpsterfire.
bakshi blew his chances and its all his fault.

I think Bakshi would have worked out better had he focused on erotic or pornographic shorts. I wonder if there would have been a market or funding for that back then. The films could have been distributed to porno theaters and later collected for the rental market.

>t. Frank Mancuso Jr.

>rewriting a script withouth telling the original writer is a dick move
This is business as usual in Hollywood.

No I'm pretty sure the writers guild exist to prevent such things from happening.

>2. Kim Basinger is awful. She drags down the entire second half of the film.
It's definite proof that 2D is superior to 3D.

Didn’t it have a rushed ending, or no ending at all so he had to make it up on the fly?

The McCarthy era existed for the purpose of destroying all non-hierarchical unions. Hierarchical unions, like the writers guild, can be bribed and for cheap, at that.

Sometimes I wonder if the Soviet had their version of McCarthy era and McCarthyism, or do they just call that Monday?

Because it wasn't a good movie.

Stalin was afraid of actual communists, such as Tito. But, he was more fond of assassinations. The old Martin Luther King Jr routine.

Then the Writers Guild doesn't have any real power.

>Stalin was afraid of Tito
Not really, he was more angry that Tito refused an alliance with the Soviets.

You can have more than one reason to kill a man.

The only decent movie Bakshi made was Fritz and that's only because Crumb has some actual talent, and is good at doing pathetic-funny.
It's understandable why raunchy sexual movies existed back in his times, but since society evolves, they age very poorly and their only purpose is lost.

I'm fairly convinced when people praise Bakshi and his 'animation talent', they're always getting him confused with Richard Williams. I've seen it happen

I wonder why this shit pile of a movie didn't set it in stone that fanservice is the tool of the hack.

Did you watch it?
It was honestly one if the worst movies I have ever seen. I'm legit shocked that Brad Pitt's career survived being in the movie.

Visuals were cool and the soundtrack was fun
Everything else sucked

Love this movie but man this fucking thing is heavily flawed.

Especially since the whole thing is just a studio wanting a who framed roger rabbit clone.

>iseka
What?

The plot was terrible and incoherent at times, it tries to be Roger Rabbit without utilizing well the fact that the characters are cartoons. As it is the plot is just some noir story with cartoon characters jumping in the background from time to time.

people weren't ready for sexy toons back then.

Original plot was rewritten into the mess you've got.
In reality, Holli was supposed to get pregnant and birth an abomination that was half toon and half human, then the story would revolve around that.

Holi a succubus

Go into a NEW WORLD (literally what isekai means) where it usually is a wonderful place for the main character or something at least the audience would be jealous of. It's become almost synonymous with OH NO WERE SUCKED INTO THE MMO kinda plot.

Correct.
Cringe.

i enjoyed it. but it's not really hard to figure out why. it's obvious the execs made a ton of changes to the script and watered down the violence

Kim Basinger's career didn't.

The movie was only greenlight because of the success of Who Framed Roger Rabbit .

>What if we made our own Who Framed Roger Rabbit movie
> but deleted that childish Roger Rabbit character to make it more adult
>We can give the smoking hot Jessica Rabbit character a much bigger part to make it more adult
>Lets replaced the fat detective (Eddie) with Brad Pitt to make our movie cooler

We'll call it Cool World

I seen this movie decades ago.

Bakshi's works can all be summed up as "interesting". nothing he's done really speaks on its own merits and instead of being niche, borderline pornography, they wouldve been instant classics if done by a competent director. As it stands he's just a pervy kike that liked animating tits and jerking himself off about new york, and his best accomplishments are he got paid to animate tits in america of all places.

It was suppose to be a horror, but the studio forced her to change it to family-friendly

>cool world
>family friendly
I know execs can be retarded but i highly doubt they were gunning to be "family friendly" when they hired bakshi.

It was Basinger who wanted the movie to be movie friendly.

Learn english, jesus christ.

>best girl
That's not Jessica Rabbit.

Attached: 1417836048897.jpg (697x1146, 119K)

>tells artists to draw whatever with no other directions
>slap it into a random scene
>if there's not enough to fill time, loop it
Bakshi does this blind shotgun approach with a lot of his work, and it's one of the worst traits of his movies. Just to prove how bad of a practice it is, John K copies this approach as well.

Fuck off, nigger.

No!

Because Holli was hotter as a toon.
