Why did it fail?

The prequel comic that was storytimed here last year was phenomenal.
The following comic that went through the films story was dull as fuck though.

The script was totally rewritten by Paramount's executives, it doesn't remotely resemble Bakshi's original idea which was gonna be about a live action guy and an animated woman's horrifying mutant demon baby. The movie was bastardized so bad Bakshi actually punched the Paramount guy's lights out.

He's a dick of a man, and i have no doubts the original script was a dumpsterfire.
bakshi blew his chances and its all his fault.

I think Bakshi would have worked out better had he focused on erotic or pornographic shorts. I wonder if there would have been a market or funding for that back then. The films could have been distributed to porno theaters and later collected for the rental market.

The only decent movie Bakshi made was Fritz and that's only because Crumb has some actual talent, and is good at doing pathetic-funny.

Everything else sucked

The plot was terrible and incoherent at times, it tries to be Roger Rabbit without utilizing well the fact that the characters are cartoons. As it is the plot is just some noir story with cartoon characters jumping in the background from time to time.

In reality, Holli was supposed to get pregnant and birth an abomination that was half toon and half human, then the story would revolve around that.

Go into a NEW WORLD (literally what isekai means) where it usually is a wonderful place for the main character or something at least the audience would be jealous of. It's become almost synonymous with OH NO WERE SUCKED INTO THE MMO kinda plot.

I seen this movie decades ago.

Bakshi's works can all be summed up as "interesting". nothing he's done really speaks on its own merits and instead of being niche, borderline pornography, they wouldve been instant classics if done by a competent director. As it stands he's just a pervy kike that liked animating tits and jerking himself off about new york, and his best accomplishments are he got paid to animate tits in america of all places.

Bakshi does this blind shotgun approach with a lot of his work, and it's one of the worst traits of his movies. Just to prove how bad of a practice it is, John K copies this approach as well.
