I'm so sick of this argument. Just because you're a casual who barely even reads modern comics, let alone older ones, doesn't mean everyone is. Jim Starlin's run on Captain Marvel has long been well-regarded, especially his death. Starlin didn't kill him because no one cared about him, he killed him because the book's sales were flagging at the time (as have the sales of so many characters, including popular ones) and his own father had recently died of cancer. Marvel boldly allowed Starlin to kill Marv, an important trademark, in a fashion that was not traditionally heroic, and has honored that death by keeping him dead for almost 40 years, despite the massive amount of characters that have been killed and resurrected since.

Starlin's run, and by extension Marv's run as a whole, was hugely important to Cosmic Marvel. Without it Thanos might have been nothing but a one-off Iron Man villain, we might not have gotten Starlin's revamped Warlock, or much later Infinity Gauntlet, and we might not have gotten Englehart's Silver Surfer, which threw off the earthbound shackles of the character and paved the way for the Cosmic renaissance of the 90s. Even before Starlin Captain Marvel was enriching the lore of FF mooks like the Kree and the Skrulls, and his adventures on Earth and beyond expanded the boundaries of the Marvel Universe beyond New York. He was Marvel's first truly Cosmic superhero, and he deserves some goddamned respect.

You’re retarded. The reason they changed the race of the Ancient One wasn’t because of some supposed Chinese stereotype but because the Ancient One is Tibetan. The Chinese government basically forced Marvel to cast a non-Asian actor/actress for the role.

That sounds more legitimate but they could have ignored his national origins, just a cool Asian actor like the guy who played Imp Man or someone.

Tilda Swinton is amazing plus her version of the AO is much more interesting than the one in the comics so I don’t really mind.

I also think casting another Chinese actor would be a greater insult to the Tibetans. The optimal choice is that they don’t change his ethnicity or gender at all but we don’t always get what we want
