Also what is up with Sam skin color and eye color? In some comics he has light skin and blue eyes and in others he has has brown skin and brown eyes? Even in the USM cartoon he has brown skin and green eyes and in the GotG cartoon he has auburn hair and green eyez with light skin.

Well, they need a spotlight somewhere, not every new, teen hero can be forced into relevance. This is the place they got for now. I'm sure each of them will get their due development, as Snowbird did. Give it time, if you want.

They just haven't met yet. Richard's development currently is in the background of other books, namely GOTG and Black Order. He's about to be featured in GOTG next month, but I kinda doubt it will be to show him speaking to Adsit about Sam.
We'll have to wait until he's fully available again so Zub can use him.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad she's back and we're finally reusing some of Sam's villains other than that one Chitauri dude

Last Champions had Sam wanting to ask Rich to help him steal the helmet back but Sam was too embarrassed to do it.

When asked if Rich knew about Adsit taking the helmet Zub said "He’s not currently aware. We’ll see if that remains the case" and that combined with the fact that Zub plans to give some conclusion to the story with Sam's dad i think Champions might have a Sam centered Nova arc with Rich possibly being there (unless Cates has dibs on him). Rich has worked with the NuNova corps and judging by Duggan's GotG and Black Order he pretty much does what he wants regardless of what they tell him. So I believe he would tell them to fuck off and give the helmet back to Sam.

That said, going by Amadeus having a name change and Riri getting a new armor and how Zub, I am guessing Zub is going to reinvent Sam. Possibly give him a new identity or new look.

I'm worried about what Cates might do to him, his GotG seems to be going full edge and if one thing I have learned with the whole Wally shitshow at DC is that writers will shit on a non A-list character even if said character just came back. Seeing that Cates is going to send his Edgelord Guardians after Rich and Cosmic Ghost Rider being with them makes me concerned. I wouldn't put it past Cates to kill Rich again just to give Peter some angst I wouldn't put it past the Marvel editors to OK that decision.

Duggan is using the Chitauri Dude in Wolverine and the Infinity Watch so he's still doing something I guess.

Comics used to be something where people picked up any issue, and knew everything they needed to know to enjoy that issue as a single story. So I'm not exactly going to complain about short text boxes telling you the basics of characters.

No, but remember the main demographic for this, high school children/teens. In a way, this is also supposed to be academic, in a way. If you read the Snowbird issue (Champions Annual #1), you can tell it was written with that in mind.

You should be reading Unstoppable Wasp because it's actually pretty decent, and there have been hints about Nadia finding out the truth about Hank not actually being dead as Janet and Jarvis have been lying to her. The last couple issues have been about her dealing with bipolar disorder that she inherited from her father. Shit was intense.

So far, the problem seems to be that Zub hasn't actually given Sam any agency in getting his helmet back. He's basically put him in a box of self-pity and doesn't want to let him out. Meanwhile, Zub says to keep reading without any real indication that things will change for Sam, save for the previews to #3 bringing back Whatsername.

I will also note that the first panel of has Kamala saving Sam from harm, thus further confirming my ship.

Okay but hear me out: your post basically confirms what he's trying to communicate in that tweet, I share the same concerns but it all seems to be leading somewhere soon, and we'll find out.
Problem is, since he doesn't have a book, Champions is the only avenue for development for him, and he has to share that with a cast of 6 main chars and like 5 secondary ones. At the very least he's well aware fans are getting frustrated.

Gurihiru's art being able to keep up with the tone of the story was a huge surprise to me too.

Nah he's been getting a lot of those questions for awhile now from people on twitter and tumblr as well and those are the tame ones. Samfags can be just as bad as Richfags and Sam hasn't been shat on as bad as Rich.

I'm sure it's all leading somewhere. The problem is that one, Zub seems to be preventing Sam from forging his own path, and two, telling people to "keep reading" alone doesn't help when you don't have any real hook.

The latter is mostly the result of the former. Why follow the book to watch your favorite character grow and develop when there doesn't appear to be any actual development or progression?

Yeah the Crystal Knight was pretty cool, makes me wonder if he does change Sam's identity what would he be called? The Black Novas were also called Supernovas so would he take that name? Would it be something like Pulsar? (just to keep with the cosmic theme like Binary and Quasar). At least he seems like he wants to do something with Sam now so that's good.

Speaking of latino heroes it took Ramon Perez to decide that Sam was Mexican because before Nova vol. 7 he was just a latino character and no one gave much of a shit to even go beyond that. Heck him being latino doesn't really factor that much into his comics aside from two scenes that could be easily taken out.

But still that kind of was interesting to me because he seems like an aglicized latino (anglo name and doesn't know spanish) and the idea of a story with Sam exploring his heritage would be pretty sweet.

Can't wait until Cates fucks off to DC or television and CGR is buried forever.

The Venom shippers thing was funny but yeah McGloin and that one TimeLord guy are already paying attention to Cates and they'll make his life impossible.

Pet characters are forever. Miles and Sam are still around even though their creators aren't.

Zub is a bit of a Richfag judging from some of his older tweets even pre-Champions. Also I recall someone asking him on tumblr how Marvel Studios might be planning a Nova movie and if he wanted to see Sam on the big screen and he replied he would be happy seeing Rich or Sam (some Sam fans didn't like that answer).

A lot of artists make Sam's mom thicc, I think whoever is the Champions artist kind of just made her a generic skinny lady and the colorist made her white which really killed it.

I also think Speedball wanted to fug her, not sure, I might be misremembering things. Wouldn't blame him though.

And yeah I know what you mean with those other teams, if a character is not a pet character to the editors they'll be left to rot.

The ones that don't hit that popularity status do go away. I don't think Carol will ever go away since she's THE Captain Marvel now but someone like Riri or Sam does run the danger of eventually falling into obscurity, especially if there's a management change.

Go for it. Waid totally wasted the concept, but I'd say since Zub took over it's my favorite "teen team" books currently on stands.

He actually managed to clean up both Viv and Riri's characterization. I'd say check out the Infinity Countdown tie-in issues as a fair sampler to the books, especially since it's surprisingly crucial for multiple characters and plots later on.

Sam's been around for 7 years and has been unpopular since day 1. If he hasn't faded away yet, he never will. I think Marvel will always have him on team books that get absurd levels of promotion

Anyway that arc was closed, I think, when Sam came to terms with the idea that he didn't need the helmet to work in the team ("Weird World One"), and now a different one started when him not having a helmet will represent a problem once Kaldera arrives to Earth looking for him.

Learn how to english good. Also the team is like two dozen large and are running as an A team B team situation with a bunch of extras they can call on when needed.

It started off with just the 6 team members, plus a few associates in various issues. Cyclops left at some point, and they added Snowguard to the main roster. Just recently they've more formally recruited several teams worth of extra heroes, though it seems like this is probably just for plot purposes and won't be permanent.

Is Snowguard literally just Marvel's Beast Boy?

More or less, she seems to transform mostly into mythical inuit creatures though, from eagles to wolves and the other day, a wolf with antlers.

Sam, like Gwenpool, is only enjoyable when he is suffering and being pluckily dim.

Y'know this is pretty similar to what happens to Rich in New Warriors when Garthan Saal takes his powers and he becomes the new Nova. Except that was worse because it took more than 10 issues and by the time he got his powers back it was already the last New Warriors issue.
