Gummi world in China IL was a big disappointment. Global WG plot but the 2-3 girls in the show who were actually worth seeing fat were completely isolated from the WG plot in a B-plot side story, even though them getting fat would have actually fit perfectly for what they were doing.

Then Wouldn't Clover's enthusiasm for the cookies turn to disappointment as she wasn't getting the cookies she was hooked on? Also pretty sure the addictive ingredient was some super concentrated sugar so Clover would have really noticed if they were just normal cookies. The sugar crystals should have been melting in their mouths so even if the first didn't quite get them by the second or third they should have been tasting enough to hesitate to spit them out.
I still maintain after fusing with Steven the girls should have a better understanding of real biology and start adapting their constructs to have more human like designs such as working taste buds and complex digestion systems. Maybe you can even they start to store the processed food energy in their gems causing the gem to gain mass and grow thus making their constructed bodies widen and become projected just like human fat.

I actually once had a loose idea similar to that for Peridot: Even though she can't shapeshift, an unforeseen quirk of her being an Era 2 Peridot results in her actually being able to metabolize food. She gets excited about having her own "personal" form of shapeshifting and goes overboard with it.
