SCOTT DOESN'T DEVELOP AS A CHARACTER

At this point, Scott is still dating Ramona after defeating 3 of her 7 evil exes (Matthew Patel, Lucas Lee, & Todd Ingram) and is currently struggling with where he and Ramona stand while also dealing with certain problems as a jobless 20-something year old.

For those who don’t remember, Lisa is an old high school friend of Scott and Kim.

She met Scott after he got in a fight and sent to the principal’s office during his first day at school.

Lisa and Scott formed a band and got Kim to be their drummer after Scott saved Kim from some 80ft tall guy in a purple jumpsuit (Scott’s words, not my own).

Scott and Lisa never dated.

After realizing who she is, Scott begins to remember all the cool old memories him and Lisa shared back in high school.

Until he notices that it’s been four years since he’s last seen or thought of her and his perspective of her now is replacing the one he previously had of her.

As Scott and Lisa are catching up with each other, you can see that he’s genuinely enjoying interacting with this different and new Lisa Miller.

He even makes it a point about how cool he got a “girl’s” number, not “Lisa’s” or a “friend’s” number.

Attached: ebdf9ae0-cb9f-4c05-9b38-b793493ac7f3.jpg (744x1200, 260K)

Now I want to point out something important.

Scott only makes a passing remark about being a relationship with Ramona and it is completely ignored by Lisa until she asks Scott to compare how hot she is to Ramona plus how old Ramona is.

Keep this knowledge in mind for later.

What do you expect him to do? Scott is pretty dumb, and i think envy breaking up with him back then traumatized him a bit, thats why he doesnt think about his past too much

Now we’re at the point where Lisa finally meets Ramona.

These panels play out as if we’re looking through Scott’s eyes as his girlfriend begins to learn about this new woman whom she’s NEVER heard of until now.

But there’s nothing to worry about, Ramona casually greets Lisa.

Y’know.

As much as she casually greets anyone else in this series.

These panels set two things in stone.

Scott is has done nothing wrong, but yet he’s still panicking over Ramona seeing Lisa.

And the panels showcases Lisa more than Ramona when the other characters start talking more about Lisa instead of talking about both Lisa and Ramona.

Attached: f6eb8b9f-a851-4de1-9de6-aee625c7bf7f.jpg (749x1200, 233K)

Moving forward.

We are at the point where Scott is hanging out with his friends and Lisa.

The badger him about if he’s said the “L-Word” to her yet.

To which he thinks they are referring to the word lesbians, but he completely loses his train of thought when Lisa speaks.

Attached: b2d6604b-34ef-4929-80ee-7c2e9a4b9f42.jpg (989x998, 255K)

Now this another interesting scene that cements something as well.

Even though Lisa is asking about Ramona Scott is keeping everything about her short and sweet.

Also, take a look at how Scott looks mildly uncomfortable when Lisa seems like she’s about to confess to Scott.

Sure, Lisa didn’t do it, but notice how in the panels she closes in the gap between her and Scott when they’re walking.

She gets close enough to him to lean on him and Scott seems uncomfortable but he doesn’t push her away and pretends that she’s drunk when she’s “confessing”.

>Analizing Scott Pilgrim in 2019
Boy, you're a little late to the party, aren't you?
You're reading that completely wrong. Scott is obviously a ladies man, if nothing else. He's playing coy by saying "Oh, Gee, a girl's phone!". Lisa sees through that and lets him know.

Keep in mind, in my earlier tweet, Lisa isn’t shown drinking any alcohol nor does she looks like she’s incoherent of what she’s doing/saying.

This is proven in an earlier panel from Volume 4 where Ramona and Scott’s friends are visibly drunk.

Attached: 0f32b6b5-e719-4ff4-b75b-2d45eef49e44.jpg (752x1199, 255K)

Skipping later on in the volume after Ramona agrees to let Scott stay with her in her apartment, Scott becomes extremely fixated on Ramona.

To the point where he doesn’t notice that Lisa is physically and emotionally distraught at the dagger eyes she’s receiving from Ramona.

Scott is oblivious to the tension in the room between Ramona and Lisa because the makes you, the reader, focus more on the conversation of Kim, Neil, and Stephen.

Basically looking at things through Scott’s perspective (and slightly from Ramona’s).

did I miss something? why is scott pilgrim relevant again?

>in my earlier tweet
I really hope you're pasting your own tweets instead someone else's while you're looking for replies, OP, because if it's the second the fuck you.

After that, Ramona begins to question if Lisa was JUST a friend.

Considering that Scott:
- Never brought her up until recently
- He’s been hanging out with her more and more lately
- And that he’s not catching on to what Lisa has been doing this whole time

Yes its the latter

But Scott is telling the truth that he’s never dated her or liked Lisa as more than a friend.

And is confused as to why Ramona is so concerned about the relationship between him and Lisa.

Why yes, it’s almost as we read the same series of books.
Just what are you exactly getting at? What point are you trying to make?

what on earth is your point here OP? what arcane knowledge do you think you're imparting on us? and why do you think anyone cares so many years after the fact?

Which just leads to them needing space and Scott calling up Lisa when he’s at a low point.

Attached: d2a70c59-76b6-4b80-a225-658c21fb72bf.jpg (745x1200, 215K)

Finally we get to the panels that brings everything together.

Scott is alone with Lisa.

Attached: 498fa461-2b32-461b-acc7-783520b2b8fe.jpg (800x1200, 139K)

Lisa finally tells Scott that she has basically been hitting on him since the moment they reconnected back at the mall.

Even now, with her night gown, she wore it specifically because Scott was coming over.

Even though she feels bad about what she’s doing, she still does it.

As Scott learns all of this he is happy rather than shocked.

But when he tells Lisa about how Ramona got jealous over wondering him and Lisa ever dated.

To which, she sits very closely to Scott and tells him, “Maybe we should have.”

Lisa is basically putting everything on the table to see if Scott will choose someone new and (possibly) more desirable to him than Ramona.

I think this OP might have autism. Not Yea Forums "you're a weirdo" autism, genuine autism. He doesn't been able to engage properly with a discussion thread and is displaying a level of fascination with a topic no-one really cares about.

And then the next morning comes.

Scott is awake and confused by where he’s at and what happened last night.

And she tells him that he chose Ramona over her, but the panel explains it better than I could ever do it justice.

This entire piece about Scott and Lisa shows us how much one encounter has shifted Scott’s character from someone who was flakey, sporadic, unsure, and confused about what he wants/needs.

Sure, he’s still got a LOT of growing and changing to do, but seeing him choose Ramona over Lisa after constantly being tested (probably not the right word, but meh) about his current relationship.

He realizes how much he values Ramona and what they have and doesn’t want some passing attraction of lust for someone else ruin that.

This made me very proud of Scott in this volume.

I care

This is why it's important to teach autistic kids proper ways of presenting information so other people can understand what they're getting at. Also to not use return as punctuation.

Can you really order pizza at past 2am in the night in the great white north, canuckbros? Can anyone confirm?

If they live near a college/university it's not uncommon for there to be at least one place that offers late night delivery, this is true for America and Canada.

I always see everyone parroting "the whole point of Scott Pilgrim is that he was a dick", but throughout the whole series, he's not that much of a dick, is he? He misrepresents the things he did as a teen, I can understand that (the whole nega-scott thing), but apart from that he was alright... And Ramona was way more of a bitch than him? But it was only because Gideon was in her head? I never really understood the glow thing either desu. Maybe I just need to re-read the thing

oh yeah, and it was also Gideon who was messing with Scott's memories, so you can't even blame him for that

Being over the age of 24 makes you realize none of the characters in the series are cool or relatable. In fact I absolutely hate all of them. Except for Lisa

it makes you feel that way about a lot of characters in series aimed at teens, to be honest sempai

I don't hate any of them really, but it's obvious they're not supposed to be cool or sympathetic. I think they're somewhat relatable in their flaws and their problems being mostly self imposed or stemming from mundane pains like failure to connect with someone you want to have a closer relationship with or realizing that you can't be honest with others if you're dishonest with yourself.

It's kind of the aspect I love about this book, your views change on them the more you mature from thinking they are cool to seeing them as losers. A lot of what it was about

What the fuck is this, The Annotated Scott Pilgrim?

When he says "we a girls number" he is clearly joking in a flirtatious way you dummy

Gideon didn't make Scott cheat on Knives with Ramona. He's dumb and a bit of a dick but it's not like he's an awful person. It's why his friends give him shit all the time but still remain his friends.

And that’s it? God damn, kill yourself OP.

Is this your conclusion op? Fuck you faggot, no one needed an analysis to understand what was going on here. What made you think that it was necessary to annotate this story?

Teens are dumb assholes. When we were teens we were too; it's inescapable. That's why the views on them change as you re-read these types of stories.
I still find the characters enjoyable despite (Or perhaps because of) their deep flaws.

And yeah, SP's characters are actually mosly in their early twenties. But in this age of prolongued adolescence they're barely distinguishabe from teens.

Thanks op it was cool

op is autistic, just let his thread die in peace

Scott is pretty much an asshole who's walking ass backwards through life. He's just talented and charismatic enough to sorta get away with it but most people who've been around him long enough realize this about him. He's not an outright piece of shit, but he's definitely a jerk.

>Yes its the latter
For what purpose?

>SCOTT DOESN'T DEVELOP AS A CHARACTER
>explains how scott develops as a character
what did he mean by this?

I guess you thought this analysis was neat, OP, but it's actually pretty banal and reposting dozens of character-limited tweets in a Yea Forums thread is kind of obnoxious.

> pretends that she's drunk
But she is drunk.
Conking out head-first into your crush's chest isn't a sober-person thing to do. Not something you'd want when trying to make a good first impression on a guy that you like.

It’s less that he’s a dick and more like he’s really kinda immature and that his and Romona’s relationship only truly starts after the end of the comic and both have grown the hell up a bit.

Scott's not fixated on Ramona here. He's fixated on the conversation.
There are two separate scripts being played out here. The first is the spoken exchange between Scott and the rest of his band-mates. The second is the unspoken one being had between Lisa and Ramona.
If Scott were focused on Ramona, he'd realize that what he was afraid of in and was coming to pass. Ramona is noticing Lisa's visible attraction to Scott, and starting to wonder whether her feelings for him are reciprocated. But he doesn't notice any of this, and even initially misinterprets Ramona's later comments in , because he's focused on Steven, Kim, and Neil.
This is an interesting analysis, but I think you've got a couple things backwards here.

I like how this scene harkens back to their first interaction

That would certainly explain his maladroit readings of this story's social interactions, here

Did they?

>This entire piece about Scott and Lisa shows us how much one encounter has shifted Scott’s character from someone who was flakey, sporadic, unsure, and confused about what he wants/needs.

But it hasn't. Scott just spazzed out on her after being a clueless twit. Also we didn't get to see it even though it was the climax of this character arc, so it's telling over showing. Finally we only have Lisa's word. It's possible that they had sex but he was so bad that she had second thoughts, drugged him, and told him this story.

>Scott Pilgrim is a terrible series about a deserving failure that appeals to other deserving failures
In other news, water is wet.

Lisa and Scott would literally end up worse than Scott and Kim and you know Lisa doesn't deserve to have her heart broken

threads pop up here every once in a while.

>Can’t believe I bought this as a Christmas gift to a girl
Which book? And why? How'd she react?

especially in one of the largest cities in North America

Do you think Lisa and Kim would be open to a threeway with Scott? Kim might be lowkey bi, but what about Lisa?

Attached: watercolor_15_kim_on_the_subway.jpg (290x440, 38K)

Probably. Honestly, I feel bad for Kim, Knives and Lisa. They all got fucked over by Scott in their own way, and they are all sweet people. They all deserved better

Lisa is full on straight, methinks

They did proceed to rape him yes

I'm a bit confused OP. You're saying Scott didn't develop as a character, but the entire book is Scott becoming a mature adult and making character strides.

>Gets a job
>Remains faithful to his girlfriend
>Actually verbalizes his love and commitment to his girlfriend
>Starts considering a life outside of his current position

The book was titled Scott Pilgrim Gets It Together. While his greatest development occurs within the final two books, where he starts to face down his actual flaws and his past, this book is the beginning of where Scott starts improving as a person and growing up. Even if he may have needed a push from his friends, he develops as a character and in his relationships.

This is garbage. The literal only thing you read this for is the thots. Admit it.

Have fun being a perma-virgin.

But Scott was a dick when the story began. He was an unemployed, freeloading, womanizer that had a very skewed view of reality. By the end of the story he has a steady job, his own apartment, and has come to grips with his own faults and issues (confronting and accepting Nega Scott), and he makes amends with all of the people he's wronged throughout the series. It doesn't happen all at once, but he does grow as a person as the series progresses.

I'd think Lisa would fight harder for never having that experience yet.
They obviously had a competition beforehand for who went first and planned it out so both get a turn

True. What do you think Lisa would want to do to Scott first? What's her greatest fantasy for Scott?

Attached: lisa.jpg (200x200, 10K)

>Ramona claims all seven of her exes are dicks
>In real life this is the best way to tell if a girl is absolute fucking trash because either she's a liar or she's such a terrible judge of character that she managed to pick out seven assholes in a row.
>Scott stays with her and fucking fights on her behalf.

Jesus, is shit in Canada really that bad that he saw Ramona and thought "What a catch!" and "This is worth the shit I'm doing."

he also comes to terms with the people he screwed over, that was a big one.

Basically this. Ever notice how every generation is shitting on the next for doing stupid shit? It's not that we as a species are getting stupider, it's that teens are and always have been fucking retards

What's the kinkiest shit someone would fall in love with acting in a slutty low-budget Canadian soap opera?

The fucking NUKES was about to fly

>Scott stays with her and fucking fights on her behalf.
if you think about it, Scott's horniness for Ramona is the sole reason for this. Scott didn't really seem sexually attracted to Knives, and Scott tried to bang Ramona on the first date. Once Scott was in, he basically stuck it out. If Scott tried to smash with Knives, he could've avoided fighting (and dying once) and may have gotten cute half-Chinese kids.

>If Scott tried to smash with Knives, he could've avoided fighting
He would've had to fight her father.
That's SP Hard Mode.

Lol touched a nerve eh

Scott did nothing wrong, Ramona is the best girl

He did fight him and it was a pretty easy victory, which he then earned Knives' father's respect.

Also, Knives was particularly cute in the fourth book.

>sharing the shitty ramblings of a Twitter "analyst" about a series that Yea Forumsdiscussed to death

This is fucking terrible.

t. deserving failure triggered about a story about young people with active social and sex lives

That's the point. Scott is also as a dysfunctional moron as her and her exes.

A lot of people miss that for some reason.

this. They are all a mess, the difference is that Scott and Ramona hit the point where they realize this and their struggles for the relationship is what makes them grow

Its hard to say if Scott would've reached that point had he stayed with Knives.

Besides, Kim and Knives are meant to be.

Absolutely hot
Her greatest fantasy is to get Scott to love it and her. Might be naturally, through mindbreak, drugs or whatever else. But he will show love back

Attached: 4443qt.jpg (490x399, 49K)

Scott is a fucking idiot surrounded by an anime harem that wants to fuck him constantly, and Ramona is a giant skank. The story got pretty boring to me after a while when every chapter was just Scott bumbling around like an idiot and turning down hot girls better in every way to Ramona, while protecting her from her slutty past.

here you go

Attached: pp,550x550.u4.jpg (431x550, 75K)

Do you think if Scott introduced Lisa to Ramona and tried to push for a threeway before Ramona got jealous, do you think it would've happened?

Ramona establishing dominance with nothing more than a gaze.

Maybe with a bit of guilty conscience too. I mean, if you were, in your heart and openly, lusting after someone's boyfriend/girlfriend and starting to get a nasty look from them, you'd probably feel a tinge of shame or discomfort.

Who says she didn't? Scott doesn't and wouldn't remember, especially if he was on drugs or alcohol, and she wouldn't need to tell him

>especially if he was on drugs or alcohol
he was a bit of a straight edge, so he really wouldn't do drugs nor did he really drink a lot.

Combined or not this is the good stuff

Lisa is really the hottest Pilgrim girl. Atleast I think so, or I think her eyes and hair have sexier shapes. It'd be interesting to see RL representations of the characters that actually looked like the characters. Maybe I need a body comparison chart.

As far as personality goes, I find it telling that Ramona is super jealous of Lisa, when she has evil ex-boyfriend s coming outve her ears. She also left town and was with Gideon during this time, which makes me feel like she cheated on him. A sort've I'm gonna be sexually promiscuous, but you better not be mentality.

You can tell Lisa is attractive by the way Ramona feels threatened by her

Maybe you don't see him as a dick because you are like that , everyone else has dealt with someone like scott at some point in their lives and take time to better themselves when people get fed with their shit, there is a point in the books where scott is left almost completely alone and that makes him rethink himself

A lot of people have double standards in their mind. Things that are cool for them to do but make them feel some type of way if someone else does it. Remember, Ramona made out with her ex and Scott didn't do anything with Lisa.

Yeah, I don't think that gets stated enough. Lisa made Ramona super jealous when Kim being an ex and Knives openly lusting after him didn't.

She wasn't as visibly jealous of Envy, even.

Because it's a fulfillment fantasy where a jobless loser is still accepted by everyone and lusted after by every female despite being a terrible person in every conceivable way.

I think she just hated Envy since she was a massive bitch to her and Scott

How do i get multiple cute girl orbiters like scott?

befriend a lot of women, be charming and charismatic, and stay decently clean.

huh

stop it

get some help

Attached: getsomehelp.gif (480x358, 1.16M)

She probably did

>Emotionally unstable twenty-something
>Romantically retarded
>Kissed a girl once when she was drunk
>Turns down a threesome with a guy she's clearly still in love with and his hot girlfriend
>"Bi"
Stop this.

Of course he's a pussy with that stuff, but in this scenario I doubt he's the one initiating it.
Not showing what she described and instead having a black panel could lead to interpretation that she lied and they did have sex, consensual or not, during that night

Do you think Lisa would roofie Scott? Is it possible to roofie a guy and get him hard?

>Turns down a threesome with a guy she's clearly still in love with and his hot girlfriend

she only turned it down because she was incredibly drunk and tired. a lot of people turn down sex when they're exhausted and drunk, regardless of how much they want it.

>>
You find me a drunk, depressed twenty three year-old with no prospects with that level of self control and I'll show you a dirty liar.

Yes, roofies work on guys. I'd assume you can use a viagra-type pill to get a boner in conjunction but i'm not completely sure

It's alright OP. Despite all the bullshit there's nothing that wrong with it. You just hyperfocus on some shit more than we care about.

I'm just glad Lisa was spared having her image of Scott shattered by getting into a relationship with him. I mean look at all those girl who have.

Scott is a piece of shit

is it better to have this idolized feeling and feel like you missed out or being disappointed by never having the opportunity? both seem like they'd kinda suck

Its so much easier in the color editions. In black and white they arr rook same

Lisa>Envy>Kim>Knives>Scott's Sister>Ramona>everyone else
I will not apologize.

You forgot, know how to play an instrument or at least have a talent that's impressive

OP is an autist but this was the best thread ive been in in ages, good job.

advanced shitposting on anonymous image boards is a talent on its own.

That would be Scott's skill if it took place now
Lisa would act in some shit YouTube series

isn't that a bad thing? if she doesn't get her image of Scott shattered, whats to stop her falling in love with the next Scott-like guy she meets and getting her heart broken anyway?

>whats to stop her falling in love with the next Scott-like guy she meets and getting her heart broken anyway
which would cause her to desire Scott more and become way more desperate and lustful of him.

Well your looking at it in the meta sense, I meant the fact that Lisa isn't cynical, broken or shown in a bad light from a relationship with Scott (present in Kim, Envy, Ramona and Knives) made her embody the "one who got away" archetype (despite Scott actually being that for her rather than the other way) makes her one of the most universally loved characters in Scott Pilgrim and showing her getting broken sorta makes her step down to the other's level rather than the pedestal she's in

Seriously, though, how come they've never made a Scott Pilgrim porn parody?

Wood Rocket, this is, like, your fucking thing! Get on that shit!

There was that reallyyyyy good porn comic of Lisa and Scott getting it on but Its lost now

I'm just kinda glad my OTP got some good material

I wish it were more on model but I followed it closely until it just stopped.

It strikes me odd that despite being a very popular series with many waifus and husbandos that people admit are attractive it has not that much porn compared to other stuff. A lot of the porn isn't even on-model

I second that sentiment. The lack of good Scott Pilgrim porn is pretty surprising, especially with all the lewd bait that exists in the series canon

What's it called?

i don't know why, but I here this in my head when ever I read the final battle between Scott and Gideon. youtube.com/watch?v=c3UGNFUIiV4

So is the general consensus regarding Envy Adams that while Scott sperging out like he did was pretty goddamn stupid, she was still pretty much in the wrong in regards to all of her past actions that culminated in her going corporate, right?

Yes. She seems like a naturally ambitious person who would drop "close" relationships if it benefited her

How come I never read these pages? Are they extras?

O Malley sure knows how to write his nerdbait waifus

>Starts off as a nerdy, socially withdrawn girl
>Guy you like asks you to join their band
>Have fun, gain confidence
>Want more
>Basically become the face of the band because you're the hot vocalist of the group
>Decide you want the band to be bigger
>Start making decisions without consulting the rest of the band.
>Get rid of anyone that you think sucks. You're constantly replacing and adding members at this rate.
>Go corporate, get big money finally.
>At this point, there's only two of the original members of the band left, one leaves, while the other one who was the guy you liked spergs out and makes an ass of themselves in public, so you cut them loose.

Goddamn. Envy was fucking ice cold.

You mean the images OP put in? Those are from book 4

>earlier tweet

She's like every ambitious girl going into college wanting to make it big time

I think he’s referring to “Special Stage” (I think that’s the right name). It was an alternate situation where Scott finds out Ramona has Roxy at her place and decides to take Lisa up on her offer and they fuck. It was never finished and the last page was Scott getting butt fucked by Nega Scott.

>the last page was Scott getting butt fucked by Nega Scott.

But why tho

Scott liked it. Or his face pretended to not be into it, but the heart next to his head said otherwise

>Except for Lisa
That's because Lisa's the best.

>scott doesn't develop as a character
Isn't that the point of the book? Asshole manchild needs to grow up but doesn't?

Let's be real, Lisa only comes off as likeable because we hardly see any of her flaws as a character

Doesn't mean I won't love her regardless

O’Malley hinted at some stuff being in Lisa’s background, such as family issues or drama, but never went deeper than that. Which sucks. O’Malley does that a lot in his comics, which is probably one of the more frustrating things about him.

typical of r/co/ to succ the dicc of a classic mary sue

Lisa and Scott both bonded over their family issues when they were in high school, must've sucked for Lisa that Kim took Scott away from her

I live near a college town and there's a fucking Pita place out there that's open 24hrs. Pizza's no problem.

I looked up the original Twitter thread but OP changed the opening tweet which said Scott DID develop. So i think OP is full of shit

Wtf you can't say that, this is 4channel

>I looked up the original Twitter thread but OP changed the opening tweet
link to it?

damn, pita and pizza? what college town is that?

Okay I've been reading this thread and gotta ask, as someone old enough to not be in the target demographic of this comic, is it worth the read?

where can I read everything from start to finish?

How old is outside the target demo?

I mean, it's got a pretty broad range of support. A lot of people pick it up in their teens because of cute girls/guys, cool fights, and cool adult life stuff like going to parties and stuff. Other people pick it up in their 20s because it's a fun series about adults figuring their lives out and dealing with adult drama. Some people pick it up in their 30s because it's a fun look back on old 20s bs.

So I'd say go for it, especially if you're fond of fights and pop culture references. It's a decent series and worth reading from the first to last book.

Yes

google scott pilgrim online and it should be one, if the not, top search. Always have adblock on of course for any site

>sitting around milling about past regrets how none of your lives are going anywhere with peole you can kinda sorta tolerate
>active social life
