Last Man on Earth star Will Forte, Jane the Virgin star Gina Rodriguez, Tracy Morgan and Frank Welker are going for a ride in the Mystery Machine.
The actors have closed deals to voice star in the untitled Scooby-Doo animated movie being made by Warner Bros. and its Warner Animation Group division.
Tony Cervone is directing the feature, which counts Chris Columbus, Charles Roven and Allison Abbate are producers.
Rodriguez will voice Velma, known as the brains of the group. Forte will voice Shaggy, the scaredy-cat slacker who is best friends with Scooby. Morgan will voice a character not part of the Scooby universe, but rather part of the larger Hanna-Barbera cartoon universe, Captain Caveman.
The story sees the Mystery Inc. gang join forces with other heroes of the Hanna-Barbera universe to save the world from Dick Dastardly and his evil plans...and this time, we are told, the threat is real. The movie is slated for a May 2020 release.
SNL and 30 Rock alum Morgan will voice Captain Caveman.
Veteran voice actor Welker's relationship with Scooby-Doo dates to the 1972-73 series The New Scooby-Doo Movies.
Was there something wrong the original VAs? Matt Lillard as Shaggy is primo, why throw that away?
Aiden Sullivan
Probably trying to separate it from the DTV Scooby Films and Cartoon Series
Brody Collins
I think they're trying to go for another cinematic universe.
Levi Torres
Yes there's something wrong
This is a massive big budget Hollywood movie that's setting up an entire cinematic universe not some direct to DVD wrestling crossover
Dylan Cook
Forte better pull a new twist with the Scooby Doo voice. He can’t imitate Don Messic and he definitely can’t imitate Frank Welker
John Ramirez
Forte is Shaggy not Scooby
Brandon Miller
>Veteran voice actor Welker's relationship with Scooby-Doo dates to the 1972-73 series The New Scooby-Doo Movies. I thought he was there since the first series.
Christian Wilson
At those characters sounded similar to their classic counterparts at least and were convincing. Sure Forte will be fine, but not looking forward to just hearing Gina Rodgriguez coming out of Velma's mouth.
Dylan Williams
He was Fred since the original. He took over Scooby from Messic I'm guessing on the New Scooby Doo Movies.
That's also inaccurate, as Messick was still voicing Scooby on that show (unless something happened during production that I never heard about). I think the article mixed it up with What's New Scooby-Doo, as Frank took over from that series onward.
Still doesn't mean you can't just ignore the current voice actors. Assuming they did audition, but decided to go with different takes with Forte and Rodriguez instead.
Owen Adams
>Rodriguez will voice Velma, known as the brains of the group I don't care what the fat girl from Facts of Life did, use either her or Micucci who you fucking promised had the role. >Ditching Matthew Lillard for any reason up to and including his death, imprisonment or proof of pedohood not only no but fuck no hard fucking pass
Anthony Peterson
>Sure Forte will be fine imdb.com/name/nm0287182 Which one of these roles is not an anal scraping that could be replaced without anyone noticing?
Adrian Flores
It's literally for this one movie... unless it gets a sequel
For everything else they're still the same cast
Jesus you people just want to bitch over nothing
Easton Green
>it's fine to replace VAs >so what if Discovery looks 100 years into TOS's future >our opinion doesn't matter, only the creatives' does cool but don't expect me to watch it
Austin Perez
We don't know who else is in the cast though. So let's not jump to conclusions there, pal.
Joshua Morgan
Is Velma going to ruin this movie too?
Aiden Davis
The DVD movies and TV shows will always be voiced by the normal cast. It's just this is a movie and they need star power.
This is less of a Scooby Doo movie but a Hannah Barbara universe movie.
Anthony Reyes
So, it's a Lego Movie/Spider Verse style meta breakdown of Hanna - Barbara?
This will either be really good or suck really hard.
Mason Phillips
I have a huge crush on Gina and her voice acting is great
>One big revelation is that the movie will be titledS.C.O.O.B., and that it’ll launch a whole new wave ofpotentially interlocking Hanna-Barbera movies. Yes, that’s right — Warner Bros. is planning a Hanna-Barbera Cinematic Universe.
>How this will work was not explained, as we were only shown a brief glimpse of concept art featuring Scooby-Dooand some sketches of other Hanna-Barbera characters. The exact quote used in a much longer over-arching WAG sizzle reel was that the film will be “our first shot at unlocking the whole Hanna-Barbera Universe.”
>Other Hanna-Barbera properties includeThe Flintstones,Yogi Bear,The Jetsons,The Smurfs,Top Cat,Jonny Quest,Wacky Races,Sealab 2020, and many other cartoons, although some of those, like the Smurfs, are owned elsewhere and obviously couldn’t be part of this cinematic universe. There’s also the question of if and how they might cross over, considering they all take place in different settings and time periods. Aside fromS.C.O.O.B.,the studio has not announced release dates for any of other Hanna-Barbera movies.
Unfortunately, this is Hollywood we're talking about and Hollywood executives are prone to stunt casting if they think it'll mean the slightest increase in profits. The impulse isn't as bad as it used to be (let's hope to God we never get anything like Doogal ever again) but it still exists.
Luke Hill
I've always felt that the HB superheroes could make a good universe.
Connor Edwards
fuck you there's only one guy good enough to play Shaggy and it isn't fucking Will fucking Forte
Mindy Cohn is the perfect Velma wtf are they fucking doing?!
Julian Mitchell
>Scooby-Doo: Into the Hanna-Barberaverse That actually sounds like a really fun idea for a theatrical animated Scooby film. I hope it has an inventive visual style to emphasize these different worlds coming together.
