Was The Emphasis On Reincarnation Good For Hawkman?
Justin Garcia
Justin Bailey
No. It made things way too complicated. Should had just stuck with Katar.
Brody Scott
Nah, Katar's boring man. Every time they've tried doing him, they just return to Carter. That said, Hawkworld is still one of the best Hawkman series.
Owen White
Raincarnation is what makes Hawkman unique among all heroes so yeah
Evan Young
No because they never fucking drop it any more. Just have him go fight a bad guy once in a while. And have it not have a single fucking thing to do with any past lives or villains of a former life.
Adam Stewart
It's the only good Hawkman series, because Katar is a good character and it didn't focus on ass retarded shit like reincarnation.
Carson Rodriguez
What did you think of Palmiotti's/That's attempt to utillise Hawkman's rouges? I enjoyed it.
Lucas Campbell
Katar's a good character, but I enjoy Carter more. I like that the new series is focusing on exploration and whatnot.
Jason Scott
It was retarded.
Jordan Rivera
What was Hummingbird's deal? She came off as just another random winged person like all the Thanagarians
John Lee
She's a random genius inventor with a weird random ass backstory.
Cooper Young
Given that was when Hawkman sold pretty well post-Hawkworld? Yeah, I'd say so.
Xavier Martin
What were the numbers?
Alexander Lee
This. I wouldn't mind it so much if they could talk about literally anything else. Venditti's series is a testament to how damaging this is. Fuck, look at Carter's encounters with Khufu and Katar. The sequences are legitimately identical. Carter gets transported back in time. Carter gets attacked by his past self. Carter gets his past self to stop attacking him. Carter realizes on his own where the thing he's searching for is located. Carter gets transported away. It's that formulaic because they're all Carter so naturally they're all going to act the same. You wanna know why this run is bleeding readers? Not just because nothing is happening but because the same nothing is happening over and over again.
Samuel Hall
Exactly, this Deathbringers bullshit needs to end now, I like that he has an origin, but fuck me; I'm getting bored of this time travel bullshit. The first issue was fucking great because he's on an adventure/quest in an ecotic area, has a fight with an enemy and secures the object.
That's some shit from Golden Age Hawkman and it fucking works. They need to put him back in St Roch as a curator/archaeologist and use it as a backdrop for him being in exotic locations. I'm tired of Hawkman always talking about death or reincarnation, I want adventure.
Camden Anderson
>complicated
This is laughable given that Hawkman developed its very reputation for being over complicated because of Hawkman and Hawkworld with Katar to the point that the property was declared off limits until JSA.
Eli Diaz
No it just means he is allowed to get killed a lot more than other heros
Hudson Phillips
That is just Venditti being a terrible writer in general at DC. The reincarnation thing isn't the problem, but how he uses the ideas.
Chase Brown
Yeah I would say so, give them carte blanche to be involved in just about any story.
Zachary Walker
Is hawkman a member of the legion of superheroes?
Alexander Powell
Maybe?
Easton Long
Hawkworld created a giant continuity hole, but Hawkworld itself wasn't the slightest bit complicated. The mythos didn't turn into a clusterfuck until everyone wanted to take a whack at fixing it. The Hawkman series that followed Hawkworld was the real beginning of the end. Some asshat decided that the best way to resolve everything was to merge three of them together and write the fourth out. Then that didn't work so they murdered the merged Hawk. Then Johns stepped up to bat, and contrary to what you guys say, I think he just made everything infinitely worse. Katar had been absorbed by Carter, Kendra was Shiera via possession until she wasn't until she was again but no possession this time, and Shayera was just kind of hanging out in the corner with DC pretending she didn't exist. Except then she was on the fucking TV show so they brought her in and killed her dead in hopes that that would make her go away for good. And as they were killing her dead, some other asshat insinuated that she and Katar were part of the reincarnation cycle, which they could not have been because Kendra was RIGHT THERE.
Venditti's origin is the first one that actually works imo, though I'd prefer that they just give it up already and let the Earth Hawks and Space Hawks be different people again. It doesn't have to be complicated.
