IF YOU'RE GUILTY YOU'RE DEAD
IF YOU'RE GUILTY YOU'RE DEAD
I miss white Nick Fury.
But wait, Punisher is a criminal. Why isn't Nick Fury obeying the law and arresting him?
Old school Marvel beat-em-ups were pretty kino. Too bad they never went back to that formula.
I remember this game in particular because if you played co op, Punisher kills the stage 1 boss after interrogating him, while Nick Fury protests.
Damn. I woulda played the shit out of this back in the day, but looks like it came out when I was a teenager (more interested in girls).
So I guess Nick Fury being white is something that will never be again. Well, unless they pull some shit in Endgame and George Clooney takes over as Nick Fury, that'd be based!
racist.
>tfw Clooney signed for Fury
>tfw they gave him to read Ennis' retarded edgy gorefest and he dropped the role as if it was a hot potato
Fucking Ennis...
Yeah, the dialogue between levels depends on who you're playing as or if you're playing co-op. It's kinda funny though, because Frank is constantly ignoring Nick.
I'm really annoyed this hasn't been ported to modern systems since Marvel and Capcom clearly still work together.
Nam
>since Marvel and Capcom clearly still work together.
Not after Infinite bombed.
How is Frank making the world a better place, exactly?
Like, fine, shoot people. But drilling people through the eye is just brutality.
>MvCI was the first unsuccessful Marvel/Capcom game
Mmm, that's some nice retardedness
Less racist than blackwashing.
I literally got into a fistfight with my cousin because I wanted to be Player 2, this game is the one time it happened as far as I remember
a lot of marvel heroes, specially street level, are essentially fetishists or thrill addicts or whatever.
He does it as a deterrent to other criminals.
Fury’s idle animation is him extravagantly smoking. That’d be removed in a port.
How does The Punisher manage to stay relevant? I know he was once a big deal, but his comics seem to be hanging on a lifeline. The show which I didn't care for, was the only thing about him the mainstream latched onto. He just seems to be there, and the current run is far from palatable.
nbcnews.com
Had My War Gone By come out at that point?
That really should have been the comic to hand him first.
Reminder that Fury's special move was using his belt. This also makes the sequence in Ennis' Punisher MAX funnier.
My War Gone By wouldn't be out until about a decade later.
He's Paul Kersey from Death Wish but with a really good logo. Sometimes he's softened up enough that he can be around four color super humans, sometimes he's in stories just as dark as the book he's obviously based on. He's one of the most basic vigilante fantasies, and due to being able to slip between gritty criminal torture and super hero antics he can appeal to a lot of audiences, though not all of them in a single pieces of media.
Comics are already a niche market, and the show was complete garbage.
When you're making /k/: the superhero but don't follow through with it, people tend to not give a shit. not to mention american media at large hates guns portrayed in a positive light. just looked at what happened to the Death Wish reboot.
The food you get to eat in this game is hilarious. Or rather, it's hilarious because it's in a Punisher game.
This game was balls hard. I really liked it though. I was always weirded out that both the Punisher and Nick Fury have unlimited ammo pistols but they only break them out when an enemy has a gun too. I suppose they both prefer to kill with their fists and feet.
You can sort of cheat the gun system if you leave one enemy gunman alive and continue through the level as normal, since you get to use your gun on normal enemies as well.
Welp. I might have to fire up an emulator later and play the arcade version again.
Hes not making the world a better place, hes punishing the wicked
The Engrish....
BTW FilipinoChamp blurted out an MvC 4 rumor.
God damn it. It's probably going to suck even with X-Men in it but I'm still going to buy it like an idiot.
How bad was MvCI actually? Like is it not even worth it for 20 with all the DLC?
1980’s Film Manly Combat Rules, also known as the James Bond Method; shoot them if they’re trying to shoot you, but always let them escalate first.
The gameplay is the one arguably good part of it. That said the way the tag system works and some character combos really stifle the rest of the cast. That was true in MvC2 as well, but that was far more fun to play and watch, and far less easy to execute on a casual level.
Everything else about it ranges from mediocre to bad. The menus look like they're generic placeholders. The in game visuals are a step down from MvC3. The Marvel side of the roster has boring as piss themes inspired by the MCU scores. The game was clearly rushed out before they could finish some characters, so you see Black Panther, Monster Hunter, and a symbiote in the story but don't get to fight as or against any of them. The stages are very samey compared to previous entries in the series.
So it’s not going to take me for a ride?
It was, though. What other ones weren't successful? Even the hilariously low effort Marvel Super Heroes VS Street Fighter got enough players and sales.
I had a dream last night that I was the Punisher. I was sitting on the bench in a jail cell in my Punisher skull suit and Daredevil was next to me on the bench with a blanket over his head and he was throwing lit matches at me. He just kept lighting them one after another and throwing them at me, sometimes bouncing them off the wall behind me when I tried to block them. I was getting really mad at him telling him to stop, "RAAAA STOP THROWING MATCHES AT ME, RED" I'd say and he would just keep doing it. What a dick.
Perlmutter, apathetic Capcom executives (thanks for Scrooging the FM for SFV), and fair-weathered "fanboys"crippled the Vs. Series

Someone should have proofread this.
If people proofread Marvel arcade games we'd never have the line "Welcome to die!"

they need to make an updated version of the beat em up bundle with this and the xmen game in it dammit
Punisher game was made by capcom, so sure, why wouldn't they use some of the old moves on Frank?
That would be kind of a weird one rights wise, given X-Men arcade was buy Konami.
shit you're right. I've been mixing my beat em ups all month. Especially streets of rage and final fight.
ah, I haven't had an excuse to post this picture since 2007.
yup
I read it in Patrick Warburton's voice
Where was Guarddroid ever used in the comics? I never seen that thing appear, ever. Even Reaver is an oddball since he's an X-man villain, and not a recurring one either.
Or is Guarddroid just a modified Doombot or what?
Did the Reavers ever get into other games? You'd figure they'd be a great all purpose goon squad.
I had been using Steven Blum's Jack Cayman voice, but you can't go wrong with Warburton.
I am brown straight Mexican male and I miss white Fury.
Not his jurisdiction.
t. white guy with a Mexican grandpa.
No because that is not PC
>t. white guy with a Mexican grandpa.
How is that even possible!?
Bonebreaker was also in X-Men arcade. More recently a bunch of them were in that Marvel Heroes mobile game. Between the arcade games and MH they had a dry sepll where they only appeared in an ending in MvC3.
Cyborg mercenaries is such a good, basic gimmick, I'd love to see them more often. But I assume they get used less in the comics these days because they are so shallow an idea.
Do you think spouting that you're Mexican gives you some kind of credential that doesn't make you a racist?
...yes.
I learned Punisher's origin from this game's intro
That his family was killed in an elaborate hit meant for him due to him being privy to some clandestine activities in a black ops unit?
wait, he really used his belt as a weapon in the game?
nah, the original, basic one about them just being killed in a mob crossfire.
When did the black ops bit come in to things? Was it introduced after the idea that it was actually a Satanic rirtual that he'd interrupted?
They are friends,Fury appeared in a lot of 90s punisher comics
Yup. It was his special attack, even. Granted, he just waved the belt around and around, but at least you could say that there was a game where you can control Nick Fury and beat people by whipping them with your belt.
Great game.
The Punisher arcade game got a lot of fanart in Japan
Well really just this one minor enemy character
i like that "Cody is not a role model" is actually canon
Why do the Japanese create such perfect white blonde women?
Mayostard fever
>i like that "Cody is not a role model" is actually canon
Yeah, it was canon for 20 years when he was a fucking prison escapee in Street Fighter Alpha 3, and they used that same design again in SF4.
Uh?
Because the west is too busy making only trannies and overweight characters and minorities.
The SEGA version puts them in actual ninja costumes.
Same.
Because, unlike the West and its obsession with shitskins and trannies, the Japs know what is best in life.
>Even Reaver is an oddball since he's an X-man villain, and not a recurring one either.
The Reavers fought the Punisher once, that must have been enough for Capcom to choose to use Bonebreaker as a boss. At least one other Reaver appeared in the game as well.
>Cyborg mercenaries is such a good, basic gimmick, I'd love to see them more often. But I assume they get used less in the comics these days because they are so shallow an idea.
The Reavers still appear in X-Men books, because they're villains the heroes can 'kill' and then they always come back because they're cyborgs and can be rebuilt.
>The Reavers fought the Punisher once, that must have been enough for Capcom to choose to use Bonebreaker as a boss.
Oh, okay then. Which issue? Now I'm curious.
And yeah it was probably how Marvel gave them a who's who of 1992 to pick characters from, and they pick a fucking Lovecraftian elder god Conan villain, because he has cute tentacles.
>At least one other Reaver appeared in the game as well.
True enough, I forgot about Pretty Boy. He had way less skin in the game though - it was a straight up terminator bot with a human head, instead of an Elvis impersonator T101. Plus you fought him three at a time.
>Oh, okay then. Which issue? Now I'm curious.
Looks like it was #33-34 of the 1980s-1990s series.
>And yeah it was probably how Marvel gave them a who's who of 1992 to pick characters from, and they pick a fucking Lovecraftian elder god Conan villain, because he has cute tentacles.
Capcom are said to have been given some Marvel Universe Handbooks to chose characters from, and picked Blackheart and Shuma Gorath because they stood out from all the humans in masks and capes, and gave their artists more room to go crazy with.
>Capcom are said to have been given some Marvel Universe Handbooks to chose characters from, and picked Blackheart and Shuma Gorath because they stood out from all the humans in masks and capes, and gave their artists more room to go crazy with.
Yup, that's pretty much what I said too. I just forgot they called those things Universe Handbooks, over here we had the bio's scattered around each issue of spiderman, avengers, x-men, etc, as characters appeared, we never got one specific universe handbook. Transformers had the character specs listed 3-4 a time in normal issues too, instead of the large 4-issue miniseries with specs only.

You know, I did always wonder how Blackheart & Shuma Gorath got into the game.
>just looked at what happened to the Death Wish reboot.
People in the media were complaining about the gun (singular) in A Quiet Place despite it only being used once against an alien monster trying to kill everyone.
I always find it charming how much capcom would want very distinct cape heroes and villains in the western focused fighting games. I recal it even happen in MvC3 and we got modoc and Dormammu. And in ultimate it’s why we got Rocket Racoon and Ghost Rider. I really wish they just let capcom run wild and not tie them down to what sales ask for.
Rocket Raccoon (and Nova) was probably pushed by Marvel, they were making plans for GotG around that time. I hear they wanted to add the F4, but Marvel told them no (movie rights bullshit probably).
Capcom was actually pretty incompetent; the community begged for Gene (from God Hand), and Capcom was all "whose that?". We could've had the Iron Fist versus the God Hand.
Now we know where Ennis got this from.
>Rocket Raccoon (and Nova) was probably pushed by Marvel, they were making plans for GotG around that time. I hear they wanted to add the F4, but Marvel told them no (movie rights bullshit probably).
UMvC3 came out in 2011 long before talks of GotG and they didn’t do F4 becuase capcom didn’t like it eating the roster so they went with Super Skrull. The movie embargo shit didn’t really go hot till after Avengers was a mega hit in the summer of 2012.
you are talking out your ass, Usuma ask for Rocket because he loved the idea of a "cute" animal armed to the teeth in a fighting game. Gotg was still a twinkly inm the eye over at Marvel Studios as they were still finishing up phase one. He also wanted the F4 but not at the cost of the roster being nothing but X-men and FF so he pick Super Skrull to get the same effects and abilities. If it was movie bullshit, Wolverine, Storm, Sentinel, X-23, Phoenix, Deadpool, Magneto, Dr.Doom and Super Skrull wouldn't be in the game. Half of the Marvel roster was owned by Sony or Fox.
There are some who think racism is exclusive to white people.
They had to have Storm, Sentinel, Doom and Magneto because they were the top tier characters in MvsC2. Wolverine is like the most popular Marvel character, they could not not include him any more than ditch Spiderman.
Deadpool was in because at the time Deadpool was SO FUNNY LOLRANDOM I LIKE HIM to all the hipsters, and because of that he appeared in at least two books every week. He was recurring character in Marvel Zombies, X-Force, he was haunting Domino with a rooster and cooking a hundred pancakes in another X-men book, pretty sure he appeared in Punisher (in that story where the Marvel Universe turns into cavemen cannibals), he had his solo with Bob, Agent of Hydra as a support character, and they made this agents of Deadpool Corps crap that had him, lady Deadpool, zombie Deadpool, and some others as a team. In Doomwar they had Doom owning all of Wakanda and even the Panther God himself taking Dooms side, and so what do they do, call in Deadpool to handle it. There were at least two "Deadpool kills the Marvel Universe" books. And that's just from the top of my head; consider that I was actively avoiding all of that because it had gotten absolutely ridiculous, and even just from peripheral vision I seen him in that many books..
X-23 was also at the top of her popularity, being in the last X-men cartoon and having her best story arcs with Hellion and then Gambit and Vampire Jubilee and the Future Foundation.
What pissed me off is that they missed out on one of the most iconic characters from MvsC1-2, with the explanation that he wouldn't work with the controls in MvsC3. Then they added him back in Ultimate MvsC3. Pretty sure that was Strider, but I could be wrong. They also axed Captain Commando so they could instead push that stupid cunt Crimson Viper (the bitch in the men in black suit, yellow goggles, power gauntlets, and similar "smash the ground to make an explosion of lightning" attack).
Beats me, she's basically one of the normal beat'em up characters that you literally kill dozens of at a time but I guess people like her character design
>hey had to have Storm, Sentinel, Doom and Magneto because they were the top tier characters in MvsC2. Wolverine is like the most popular Marvel character,
and yet they were all gone when they made MvCI when the embargo was actually happening.
>Deadpool was
also gone during MvCI even with his popularity at an all time high.
>They had to have
Infinite says otherwise.
also
>he thinks comics effect media and not the other way around
Infinite was an unfinished beta game at best, or Capcom thinking their costumers are fullblown retards at worst. Not sure why you even bring it up, and wasn't it planned to have every character as DLC anyway?
>Not sure why you even bring it up
because a silly user dragged in Disney meddling bullshit when the buyout was both in it's infancy and Marvel was still in talks about what phase 2 MCU was going to look like. When Avengers was gangbusters in sales everything changed.
>wasn't it planned to have every character as DLC anyway?
no, that was wishful thinking from the fans, Ultron has most of Magneto's move set and Hirose said most of the new heroes were made to fill in the absent ones they couldn't use.
That's all we are clearing up here. Marvel ask for Thor and that Cap, Hulk and Iron Man return in MvC3, they also threw out Modok when Usuma shared that the team was rather finding the cast very boring and they were wanting something more than cape heroes.
In MvC:I they were given a list of who they could use and it was almost nothing but MCU heroes.
Okay, you are probably right and I probably remember it wrong. But you can't blame me, things kind of mesh together when both companies treat their fans like dog shit for a decade. Marvel, Capcom, and Sega are the top 3 companies on my list who need to go bankrupt so someone competent can start using that treasure trove of IPs they are either misusing or flat out forgetting to exist.
My kingdom for a new Vectorman or Comix Zone or Cyberbots.
Forget that shit, nigga. We need a new Cyborg Justice.
fun fact, that game (and then later on Ecco too) was made in the same country I'm from.
Ecco needs a new game too, kinda thinking of it.
Cyborg Justice vs Ecco the Dolphin when?
Or just give us Punisher vs Ecco.
Ecco can jump around in time, swim in the vacuum of space without air, and fights H.R.Giger nightmares and calls it a Tuesday. You'd need someone around the level of Beta Ray Bill or Silver Surfer to take him on.
And on that note, remember that guy who keeps space sailing dolphins as pets? Chances are if you actually take down Ecco, or just manage to hurt him, you'll end up having to deal with Lobo.
there was a time when Fury was white and as we all know;
WHITE PEOPLE DONT COMMIT CRIMES, THEY SOLVE PROBLEMS!
N-aaaaam?
what??????????
what is NAM?
you mean IRAQ!
>implying white people dont cause all the problems
lol
Even black on black crime?
>Volt Krueger from The Bouncer
What a weird reference to make. Nobody remembers The Bouncer outside of Echidnafags and people citing Sion's design as the basis of Sora from Kingdom hearts.
Black-on-black crime is clearly a result of institutionalized racism and gerrymandering fon economic and racial lines or the sake of keeping white people in power and black people down, user. Hegemony is the cause of black-on-black violence, if you really think about it.
I wish I was being hyperbolic for a laugh, and not repeating sociological perspectives on the concept
So you're like the kid who shifts the blame on his parents. There's a point where you need to take personal responsibility.
It's an 8 year old comic. Bouncer wasn't that old back then, people still remembered it, same way they did shit like Tobal No.1.
>Capcom was actually pretty incompetent
No kidding. 3 is a lot of fun, but Ghost Rider allegedly didn't get into the base version of MvC3 because they couldn't figure out how to incorporate his bike into combat, nor how to give him a moveset that wasn't "too punchy." They also said the reason Pyron and Human Torch didn't make it in is that the flame effects killed game's available ram on consoles.
I saved those long ago but couldn't remember where I saved them to. I'm glad you still had them.
lolwut, they never dropped Captain Commando for C. Viper, the only character she may have pushed off was Gill, and that's only because they didn't want too many Street Fighter characters in the roster. Niitsuma has never said they ever considered having Captain Commando in the game.
No shit. Too bad we missed on Doctor Octopus, they even made the theme.
Kinda hard to fix your act if you've been taught by the last two generations that being a retarded thug is all there is to life.
It's the whole Nurture VS Nature thing, and almost all of the time, Nurture wins out.
Imagine you're a street thug.
Maybe a pimp, and maybe you treat your bitches poorly, like beating them and such.
Maybe you buy and sell your bitches.
You expect that people will shoot you, it's part of the job.
However, if you knew that by living this lifestyle, you could have your nuts get chopped off, get thrown against bulletproof glass until it busts and you fall out of a 20 story building, gutted and left to die by bear while your intestines are hanging from a tree, or slowly tortured to death in an other fashion, wouldn't you reconsider your career choices?
>the megaman embargo lead by TrollOno
I heard that game was shit, but it's also a shame that 3d beatemups never really took off. It all just kinda morphed into the CUHRAYZEE genre or boring 3rd person over the shoulder shooters.
>Pushing C.Viper
>When she hasn't appeared in a game since
>Not even in Street Fighter V
That weirds me out, wasn't she the breakout character of SF4?
she was just another SNK style character, particularly a jab at how androgynous the male leads in KOF (specially ASH) had become, so as an in joke they made a manish woman in a tuxedo.
There's also Dynasty Warrior style hack and slash games. That said it is somewhat disappointing that there's not much experimentation in the genre. We need more weird takes on it like God Hand.
If you're talking baseline SF4 maybe, but then Juri showed up in SSF4 and became way more popular than her.
Can't go wrong with a Jojo ripoff
That's far from the strangest thing in a Marvel arcade game. In the Spider-Man game, Kingpin charges at people like a rhino, and in the Avengers game, Juggernaut curls up into a ball for a rolling attack.
That explains Leo Kliessen who is a woman, no matter how how more retarded Harada gets with each entry.
Someone somewhere fucked a white man or woman and had babies
