Not meme'ing, but Pride of Bagdhad is really overrated.
This is the exact kind of anus-picking that people call pseudointellectual. The entire comic is so minilatistic it almost hurts. It's a bunch of lions who are all assholes walking, bitching amongst themselves about whether they should go back or leave for good and some other things, fighting a bear and then getting shot. When the majority of "depth" in your story comes from characters bitching instead of your ideas being conveyed through their actions, you know you fucked up somewhere.

This is from 2007/2008. It was a time before these "sensibilities" reached critical mass.

I like this comic personally, but this particular segment is pretty dumb.

The interactions are still fundamentally based upon animal ones. The only "human" thing these lions do is talk.

That just makes it more dumb, though. Humans don't not rape because it's what separates them from the animals, they don't rape because they've progressed to the point of having a stable society in which there's reasonable expectation of acquiring a mate and having a stable environment for offspring to enough people that rape is punishable by its community as an unnecessary act of cruelty.

If enough people seriously started thinking it was either use illegal force or die a genetic dead end, that social contract would start failing and humans would pretty quickly fall back into the animalistic tendency of just fucking through dominance (see: undeveloped areas in Africa)

The purpose of the flashback is to tell us why the old lioness doesn't want to leave the zoo. Not because she can't survive out there, not because she really likes it here, but because she was raped

I doubt lions have such a good memory, but I don't think this is too unrealistic of an emotion for an animal to experience.

Add a shitload of quirky references and that's pretty much all BKV comics. Pride of Baghdad actually has an advantage over his other shit by virtue of not being peppered with pop culture references, this time he only had to settle for animal-themed proverbs. (Best part being that one of the lions says "You don't look a gifted horse in the mouth, you eat it", and then they meet some horses and can't recognize them)

Yes, I remember in Planet Earth when they described the male lions physically maiming females unreceptive to their advances. Its a common occurrence amongst all big cats, males ruining a female's ability to hunt to rape them. Its totally not that a male would never risk their own life and livelihood for something that they'll have plenty of chances to accomplish later.
