Hawkman By Geoff Johns:

What Did We Think?

It was good.

Best take on the character since Hawkworld. But all in all it was just OK.

Anything that you didn't like? What do you think of Venditti's run?

Fuck off, Vendetti. Nobody cares about your garbage run.

It was alright, but I'm a little salty about how it's caused everything Hawkman-related to be reincarnation hijinks these days. I just want him to go on fun adventures and beat people up.

> it's caused everything Hawkman-related to be reincarnation hijinks these days

Because none of the takes since have mattered. The previous run before Johns got bogged down in continuity shit that has made Hawkman the byword for convoluted comic book plots. Since then stuff by Starlin to bring back Katar or Daniel/Liefeld to do a spaceman Hawkman have all floundered. Johns ideas have stuck around because it was the last run that wasn't shit or an overly complicated meandering mess.

I mean you're right, but when was the last time Hawkman actually fought one of his rouges gallery that wasn't Hath-Set? I love Carter Hall a lot, but I wish they would establish his rouges gallery. One thing I loved about Geoff's run is how he and Rags fleshed out St Roch.

Midway City is cool too though.

>Implying it was because it was coherent and not because it was Johns
Geoff Johns was the president and CCO of DC Comics for years, and he had a ton of sway even before he held those positions. If you seriously think he didn't have a say in controlling which stories were released, you're kidding yourself. Do you think it's a coincidence that nearly everything Johns touches becomes gospel? He ain't that good.

Whats your point? Johns literally streamlined the New 52 Hawkman in his JLA book, instead of the shitty amnesia plot from Savage Hawkman; Katar was simply a Cop hunting Thanagarian criminsls on Earth.

Fuck, half the time Savage Hawkman wasnt sure if they were using Carter or Katar.

Don't even get me started on Starlin's Hawkman Special.

Johns tried to make another Rogues out of his villains but they came off as a little more sad than villainous

Whip guy, wing girl, cape guy, lion guy. They looked more like a Mystery Men tier grouping of wannabes

Was this the start of all Hawkman stories being nothing but
>Reincarnation reincarnation, past life, past life villain, past life issue happening in modern day
nonsense that apparently never fucking ends?

I read golden and silver age stuff and he actually managed to go fight villains that have absolutely nothing to do with any past life or reincarnation angle whatsoever. He just sees a bad guy doing bad things, and he stops them.

One of his better runs, back when he was just writing comics to tell good comic stories & not chasing Hollywood money.

Pretty solid.

That was actually Gray and Palmiotti.

Sad

He fought Onimar Syn in The Unexpected.

Fadeaway Man was badass. Good grief that's a baller name.

Why are you looking for others for opinions instead of forming one yourself or looking for validation.

Except he didnt have that type of control. He couldn't even get his preferred writer for Savage Hawkman. Instead you had Harras tier choices like Daniel and Liefeld.
