His plan was completely retarded. He should have built an Altean army, given
1. They are/were 100% loyal to him (except Romelle, seems to have been the only one who had a random distrust for him).
2. A single Altean with a robot mech was able to fight toe to toe with Voltron, which Zarkon had trouble defeating (in fact, he lost).
3. Killing them (the Alteans with a lot of quintessence) was the biggest waste of Altean resources I’ve ever seen. You’d assume he’d realize that he should be breeding those ones, not killing them.

Guy was a dipshit. Leaving your fortune to your cats? After her passing he'll be the sole proprieter of said-cats. Maybe the fortune wasn't his in name but it's his in proxy. All he has to do is occasionally spend some small purchases on fancy cat litter, cat food, etc etc and the rest was his. And if he really cared about the fortune being solely his then he'd just wait a bit for the cats to naturally die off. Or at least kill them when the old girl was gone.
