Itt, new stuff you got.

Shelves. Got Waid's Daredevil run in hardcovers on the way. I got em in a discount eBay bundle.
Brightness adjusted the right hand side. Man, my room's light sucks.
I'm thinking of giving up collecting guys.
I've been buying omnibus recently and I've even followed the guide on how to open them, but they all wind up kind of fucked...
I think I'll go back to just buying manga...
>guide on how to open them
Will this become the first epic /shelf/ meme?
>Berserk
based
How are you supposed to open them?
New purchases. Got both new and for less than retail price.
Major Bummer is currently in transit.
Read Diosamante last night and currently reading Armies.
These arrived the other day. They're second hand but pretty much in mint condition.
I'm also waiting for a bunch of other stuff, but god knows when that'll show up.
Actual shelf is full so too all my Absolutes/Library editions and make shifted some book ends. I like how it looks now. And i have a ton of new space
That's a lot of money for some shit you'll never re-read.
halfway there apostles, just 20ish more to go
I don't have any new stuff, but what books are you guys looking forward to getting?
and just missed the post office, have more new
So I'm pretty new to comics, and want to support the ones I like by purchasing them. What's the best way to do this? Order a subscription? Pick up singles or wait for a trade?
the only real way to support specific comics is to make a pull list at a LCS cause then it actually goes to sales of the book and will help keep it afloat. But it's also a drag on you cause floppies are shitty and expensive. Trades are better but plenty of books get cancelled before trades are able to be considered (Marvel waits about 6 months before a trade collects the stuff so that's 12 issues they see no sales). And nice collected versions like Omnibus don't come out for a while after the run is already dead.
There is no one way to collect, and that's a blessing and a curse. Find what balance works best for you.
LCS or Comixology tbqh.
Berserk
The new movie has convinced me to buy Alita. Anyone got the Deluxe editions? I would like to hear what they're like.
Is Hot Mexican Love Comics any good?
>be me, birthday boy
>didn't want a party but family drags me to a restaurant anyway
>the staff comes out and sings Happy Birthday to me, it's really cringe but I can't just leave
>time to open my presents
>it's the new Conan Omnibus from Marvel
>even has the GOOD variant cover
>open the book
>everyone laughs at me
>Look, look how he opens the book ahahaha oh my god have you ever seen that
Nice.
I don't care how they didn't make it like release order in these trades for all stories, so I had to pay through the nose for singles to make it proper reading order.
I’m having trouble prioritizing what omnis I want to spend my tax return on. Fourth World, Green Lantern by Johns, Perez Wonder Woman, Super Sons, more Absolute Sandman? I wish New Super-Man and Tomasi Superman had omnis
1. Absolute Sandman
2. Perez Wondie
3. Fourth World
I personally wouldn't care for the rest at all.
Absolute > Omnibus
Absolutes are unreasonably expensive. Image does jumbo hardcovers for Remenders stuff thats the same size as an Absolute, while also being twice as thick and less than half the price. Fuck DC
Curious, but why is Fourth World so low?
I don’t know, Absolute Sandman gets good presentation points in my opinion
I never said they were bad products, I’m saying they’re clearly overpriced
it's a bunch of strips collected...and all I can tell you so far is that it's fucking WEIRD. You mexianons are fucked up!
>Absolutes are unreasonably expensive
thankfully Dark Horse Library editions are a really great price.
It's an unfinished work that got fucked over by editors, has too much Jimmy Olsen and Newsboy Legion lameness in it and Kirby is overall not that good a writer, a lot of the dialogue is unnatural and even cringe-worthy
>He's doing the vampire bit!
And it just isn't as good as Sandman or Perez' Wondy, in my opinion.
Though I wouldn't consider it to be "so low" since it made the cut of being worth getting after all.
You "should" break in the binding on large books like that. If you just read it as-is you can create hard creases and breaks in the binding due to the weight of the pages.
You're being a little too precious about a decaying physical medium though. Big books will all age in weird ways.
Read and loved some Urawasa (Monster and 20th Century Boys). Now I’m going down the manga rabbit hole. Sigh. I hope I hate most of it, I need more books like I need a hole in my head.
Toss me reccs based on liking Urawasa
I’d buy the Morrison Doom Patrol omni if it wasn’t so expensive
More Urasawa. By which I mean read Pluto and Master Keaton.
From there go to Jiro Taniguchi:
A Distant Neighborhood
Summit of the Gods
Ice Wanderer
Quest for the Missing Girl
Guardians of the Louvre
A Zoo in Winter
Furari
Also Planetes by Makoto Yukimura is just two volumes in English, you can totally get that and not take up a lot of space.
REAL by Takehiko Inoue is also something I recommend at every opportunity.
This should keep you busy for a couple hours.
I need to start getting those Moon Knight Epic Collections one of these days.
Cookbook stand is the best way to read the largest Omnibus. Though really I don't buy Omnis for constant reading, I have trades/image files for that. Certainly trades for what I want to lend out. I swear I'll take a better picture soon.
Jelly on that When Calls Galactus
>those sexy spines on Buddha
Why doesn't mine look like that? Boo.
Both excellent. Just got every issue of Fell in floppy signed by Templesmith.
I also own every superhero movie that exists on Blu Ray, which excepts Steel, Blankman and Son of the Mask atm.
Now that they are putting out 8-10 movies a year, it's really gonna eat up my left hand shelf completely.
Thank you
Goddamn Vagabond needs to wrap up.
It pisses me off.
Will get the Berserk HC's if Miura shows any sign of fucking completing it. Waiting on Alita: Last Order Deluxes and eager for another Empowered Deluxe.
You're welcome!
Vagabond doesn't bother me so much since I read the book it's based on (also because history) but REAL and Berserk are a real pain in the ass to wait on.
>only have the 1st volume of COPRA fom BSC
>book moves to Image
I mean at least I don't have to buy too many double copies but God they better preserve the paper quality.
Has Fiffe or Image said what the paper quality is gonna be yet?
I just won a large chunk of Grendel comics, a Puma Blues trade, and a complete run (#1-125, plus extras) of 5YL Legion of Super-Heroes for $100 total.
Feels good. Now I'm wondering whether it's worth the extra $40 to ship it abroad, or if I should just wait until I go home for the holidays. I really want to find a run of Legionnaires to go with LoSH, but that seems like an expensive pipe dream.
Just ask him, Fiffe is a dude who lurks the internet, the same as the rest of us. You can catch him around certain forums as well.
Berserk has just lost its way completely. I'm not even sure Muira even wants to do it anymore.
Kishiro's Mars Chronicle needs to end the flashback and get to the fucking point, too.
I was gonna ask on twitter but other people have already asked and not replied. I know he posts on some forum which has trades in its name but I can't find it right now
Yeah, it is pretty annoying, but imo not as annoying as trying to store like a hundred floppies. So I'll have to live with it.
How is it that we don't have a Punisher: MAX omni by now?
I understand the issue with Miracleman, but not that.
The complete collections didn't come out that long ago.
I'm not poor and want a HC tho.
But I want them to focus on collecting something that isn't readily available already!
This image doesn't look like it would work for most trades, considering their paperback spines and the paper inside is gloss so I doubt it needs loosening.
Isn't a pull list essentially the same thing as a subscription?
There is, it collects it in 2 parts
The Ennis ones anyway
Who are some good manga artists that draw women well?
Yamatogawa
Shiwasu No Okina
I’m aware there are two Venom omnis with similar collections. Which is the better buy? There’s the Venomibus, and the one with the Carnage poster I think
Do people even look before asking questions like this?
Kaoru Mori (it's not sexist because she's a woman!)
Amen to that, brother.
Then stop buying omnis, retard. I'll never understand why so many /shelf/ites are hellbent on having the omnibus version, trades and HCs aren't that much of a downgrade
Oh so this is what's happening to the omni I just bought. Great. Thanks for giving me another reason to prefer softcovers.
Well no-one else is nearly as good as Urasawa at what he does so there's still hope yet. I've tried a lot of thriller/suspense seinen manga hoping for something half as good but it always ends up being edgy garbage. He's literally the only good one.
Latest. The Bonten Taro book was kind of shit, but Tale of the Beast was fantastic. Looking forward to the next Blackhook Press book.
They are pretty nice. They have color pages, sketches in between chapters, and volume extras with bonus lore. Kodansha has been putting out some good releases recently.
Add The Walking Man for Taniguchi.
I'm worried about the quality of the books as well. Has Image ever put out books at the level of the Bergen Copra collections? Almost all of my Image books are just normal trades.
Why did you take the dusts off of BPRD and Abe?
What are your favorite recipes from that australian cookbook?
Holy fuck that ass is fat.
Yeah, they're pretty good. They aren't the greatest storywise, honestly, but it's fun stuff and Sienkewicsz's (I butchered that probably) art's brilliant.
Funny thing is I was anxious after getting Freedom instead the same day from a store, then ordered WCG off Amazon a couple hours later. It was a great decision I think.
>Sienkewicsz's
How do you lads pronounce this? For me, it’s Sinky-Winky
Sin-kev-itch
See, I know it *should* be but every time I think the name, my brain says "Sin-ka-wich"
Sign-a-quaz
IST doesn't want to make it available, so I pre-ordered Berserk over Amazon.
And I got this at the flea market on Saturday for $3.
I liked the series, and Pepe LePew was always my favorite Looney Tunes character.
Plus that Lupacchino art.
Just trying to figure out what to get next. BPRD, Abe Sapien, and the remaining Scott Pilgrims are a given, but the rest is a balancing act between budget and the likelihood of it going OOP while I save up for it. I need to drop ~£1500 and then I can just keep up with stuff as it comes...
Image can put out trades in different formats, it's all up to the creators though as anything other than the normal format/paper type costs more in printing and that's money out of their pocket not Image as a company
>Black Hole
how good is it?
It's good! Solid book, quality art - might not be to everyone's liking though, and the story is one of teenage alienation shown through mutations as STIs.
nice, will check it out
thanks, lad
>movie makes a billion dollars
>can't even print a three volume run
fuck dc
People who watch comic book movies =/= people who read comic books
sadly
They have to make room for this: amazon.com
kino shelf user.
what the fuck
will they just put the crisis omni and the two companion deluxe HCs and call it a day?
Are you excited for the new Hellboy movie?
Fuck DC
Hitman and Transmetropolitan books are about to come out but I'm not sure to get them either
In other note Hell on Earth vol 3 reprint when
Where all the dust jackets at?
>snowpiercer
wjat? Chris evans isn't a superhero.
Fiffe if you see this i just wanted to say that the new g.i. joe shit is alright, but it's sub-par compared to copra. Let's kick it up a notch, bud. Alright thanks.
So...
WHY a duck?
I'm thinking that they'll try to shove all of their new "canon" crisis into one omni that'll fall apart if you so much as look at the spine.
Decent get user.
Pretty much all the DC/HannahBarbera/LooneyTunes crossover has been decent at worst a must read at best.
I have a pile of comission money coming next week I’m going yo get all of Hell on Earth (snd the Savage Sword Omni).
Your shelf is lacking. You need this big boy for extra finesse.
A lot of people just lost their job over there. That's probably why all these books are getting cancelled. Hope they get this sorted soon.
I'm fine with the beer belly.
I'm fine with the noodle arms and the dragging knuckles.
But those nipples need to be covered.
Knit him a bra.
YO! LIL DONNIE! I GREW SOME BREASTS!
Me again. Spent the day going through some of these. Planetes and Distant Neighbourhood (you have me the Japanese name, can’t remember it) and loved them. Gonna read more from this Jiro fella. I’m loving “sadboy” stuff right now, which is hard to find in comics. I have Lemire and Kindt for depressing stuff but it’s just not a genre covered in comics too much. I’m going down the manga hole and it feels great (bad)!!
no new comics but got a new shelf. so much room, now.
Edit: wait no you gave me the English name. I’m getting confused, it was mangarock that had the Jap name
Came in the post today. The New Mutants Epic was in the same order but got posted separately for some odd reason.
Spoiler this shit.
Can anyone here spoonfeed me on the DC Earth One books? Is there any point in collecting the books? Seems to me that the schedule is very odd and that there's literally no info at all about whether new ones will come out or not and especially whether the older books will be continued (Supes, Bats, GL, WW). Should I just read those digitally or what?
Nope, it looks bad, new trailer drops today, hopefully it looks better than the previous trailer
Oh crap!!! I love that!
Read them and find out???
Why does /shelf/ have so many dumb questions. Half your post was answering your own question about availability, and the other half was asking if you’ll like it? Fuck me, want me to tie your shoes?
>Edit
He looks like fat Luther in UA.
see
The Earth One books are unconnected in story, and random in release. Shit is done when it's done.
The Superman books are alright, interesting twists. The first one is like Man of Steel but not shit.
The Batman books are hilarious, Gordon is as much the focus as Bruce, who's bumbling around being Batman and getting lucky.
Wonder Woman is great, Morrison trying to bring Diana back to the William Moulton Marston roots, BDSM and all. Amazing paneling, great art.
Teen Titans is a rejected film script, but not an atrocious one. You can skip it, but if you see it for cheap, I'd get it.
Still haven't read Green Lantern, but I;ve heard good shit.
How is a question regarding the future of the run dumb? Just because one person isn't able to find information doesn't mean that other people won't know either
>the other half was asking if you’ll like it?
this just proves that you have poor reading comprehension. I wasn't asking whether I'd like it, just whether there was a point in collecting the books physically. you just sound like someone who loves to make mountains out of molehills
>The Earth One books are unconnected in story, and random in release. Shit is done when it's done.
now this is the info I needed. so no mention of Supes in the Batman or GL books? that sounds pretty neat
Also, do the volumes end on cliffhangers?
So what is the point of asking if it’s worthwhile to collect them physically? If you like them and you want them physically then I guess it’s worthwhile, how can any of us answer that question for you?
Maybe I’m overreacting but there’s just been so many dumb fucking questions asked in every single shelf thread lately. I’m all for shelf is love but most of these questions can be answered with a Google search or just by reading the damn thing.
I see you're a man of culture as well.
>So what is the point of asking if it’s worthwhile to collect them physically?
Maybe I should have specified that my worries are rather of completionist nature. I don't like cliffhanger shit so my bad for not specifically stating it in my first post. I definitely want to read the volumes but I don't want to support a dead series of books
Teen Titans does, but the others tend to have dangling plot threads instead.
Like having Barbra sketching a Batgirl outfit at the end of the first or second volume.
Otherwise self contained stories.
>Like having Barbra sketching a Batgirl outfit at the end of the first or second volume.
that's totally alright. It would be unfortunate if it was like in some TV show. I'll probably give the Superman, Batman, and Green Lantern books a try then
Where's Doctor Mordrid? That got a blu-ray release a few years ago.
Uncalled-for rudeness
never did this in my life
not that user but 9/10ths of the time the dust jackets are way uglier
In all seriousness, why would you buy 3D editions of the MCU movies? Literally none of them had a good use of 3D or were even remotely watchworthy in that format
They were at most $5 more than the standard release and I was going for the most complete/definitive release. The regular blu-ray is included so it's not like I'm watching in 3d anyway. The 3d releases typically had the most complete special features. Also my copy of The First Avenger is signed by Joe Johnston.
yes
say that to those pecks
And-Man made better use of 3D than 99% of movies these days, it's usually just tacked on in post and is only there to boost the cost of theater tickets
I forgot that Americans get DVDs in their Bluray releases as well. Only had that happen twice (Thor 1 and Cap 1) for superhero movies in my country. I literally stopped getting DVDs after getting the Iron Man steelbooks and the Incredible Hulk steelbook because I didn't want to get cardboard shit. Hate it when companies can't stay within one release style
You really think so? I remember there being like one effect that looked nice and every other 3D effect was just boring. Never saw a genuinely great 3D movie in the theater to begin with (missed out on Avatar in the theater) but I feel like every movie I watch on my TV (passive 3D) is infinitely better than the 3D effects in the theater
>Pacific Rim
>Avatar
>How to Train your Dragon
>that deep sea documentary with Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet
Getting a 3D TV plus a HDD was the best decision I ever made when it comes to media
>but I feel like every movie I watch on my TV (passive 3D) is infinitely better than the 3D effects in the theater
oh, that's probably true, I was talking theater cause that's all I have seen. Most theater 3D movies look like garbage and too much motion in the front that my eyes can't focus. It's why I liked Ant-Man cause it had actual depth to the shots and it didn't feel tacked on after.
Also, some of those movies were specifically made cause of 3D, almost nothing is these days it's just thrown in
>Shelf Thread on Yea Forums.
>Posts movies.
Checks out.
Right -- the instructions in the image are for hardcovers. It works best on hardcovers with a sewn binding. Glued bindings are much more difficult, so I'd suggest being gentler with those.
Arrived a couple of days ago. I'm waiting for 100 bullets. Anyone have those deluxe edition paperback ones?
Thought I'd be cute since someone else did it first in the thread.
Maybe I'll have to find Ant-Man in 3D and see whether the experience is different
>eyes can't focus
That's only a problem because 3D doesn't mash well with motion to begin with. Talking about eyes though, I had to take a break while watching Pacific Rim halfway in a few years ago because the 3D effect was too hard to handle. The Deep Sea 3D Imax was fucking insane though. I got a headache like 5 minutes in because the effects were incredible. I literally felt like I was able to jump into the damn screen. I really gotta get me more of those Imax 3D movies.....
So what? The guys clearly have Yea Forums related material in their shelves, doesn't matter whether it's movies, manga, or whatever the hell. Stop bitching and moaning and contribute properly to the thread instead
Man. You're super defensive. Anything you'd like to tell us?
I know you're trying to sound smug on purpose because shitposting is all you know but it's truly pathetic. Grow up
>doesn’t like dust jackets
>doesn’t stretch out their omni’s binding
YIKES
Man. Even more defensive. What? You got like.. 2 comics and 30 movies?
Ya I got them
Also nice Monster
this came in the mail, barely any bubble wrap in the envelope. Corner is pretty beat up, enough to bend some of the corners. But, I don't know if I want to bother returning it cause it's a 2nd hand Amazon dealer and it's barely any damage to the actual pages (none to the artwork).
return it you nigger
upgraded my paperback Seven Soldiers to the omni. I'm pretty happy with the trade up.
New orders are to not collect stuff that won't be bestsellers, and that department is being restructured.
The guy is clearly making a joke because there's so much Yea Forums shit on Yea Forums but since you sperged out like that one could only assume you're one of those that exclusively shitpost in capeshit movie threads and casting threads and shit.
Thanks.How's the quality? Gutter loss?
That, and they now have to focus on synergy. If PAD's Aquaman isn't what the movie is based on, then it gets tossed.
That, and movie sales never really lead to big sales increases. I bet the PAD
books sold ~2500 at best. Ostrander SS never managed to place in the top 750 titles of the year (~3500-4000 copies).
Wasnt the deluxe edition of beserk supposed to come out this week? Im. not seeing it on IST
Gutters aren’t very good but it’s the only in print way to get the series so whaddayagonnado
Seriously, WHY a duck?
Every one seems to have BPRD, is it that good?
And another one bites the dust.
Plague of Frogs is legit better than hellboy imo
Why yes, as a matter of fact it is. I would even go so far to say that it's rather unique in the shit it does and that nobody does it better.
And despite what a lot of people say I prefer Hell on Earth to Plague of Frogs.
absolutely not
What condition did they say that it was in? It looks pretty good to me but it's not "new".
>Ostrander SS never managed to place in the top 750 titles of the year
Don't tell me they cancelled the last volume.
That fucking sucks. They should be catering to the /shelf/ audience and focusing on omnis and absolutes instead of trades. Reprinting old ones should be especially easy because you can see how the Animal Man and Doom Patrol omnis are getting really expensive and just today I was looking for Absolute Top 10 after seeing it on so many shelves and that thing is over $200.
But user, wouldn't you much rather buy a new edition of Batman Year One, The Killing Joke or The Dark Knight Returns?
the two hardcovers were cheaper than their paperback versions. now they're the first hardcover comics I've owned.
I already have them and they're readily accessible for msrp or less. Reprint Vertigo stuff other than Sandman!
Ehh, you want us to make Y: The Last Man omnis? Is that what you're saying?

yeah, I probably should return it
Today I ordered:
Battle Angel Alita Deluxe 1 (it's the hot stuff right now)
BPRD Hell on Earth Omnibus 4
Abe Sapien the Drowning Omnibus
Made in Abyss 5
Lobster Johnson The Iron Prometheus
Great Teacher Onizuka 3-8
I think it's an okay batch.
I would be home now showing off my haul but I am snowed in so fuck nature.
4-8* I mean
Is Alita doing okay? I hear it's another Speed Racer situation, where both critics and audiences hate it.
> where both critics and audiences hate it.
Look at Rotten Tomatoes man. 60% critics score, 94% audience score.
Yeah I'd say you deserve a refund if you want one. It says "money back guarantee" and all.
Yeah but it cost $7 shipping. So not sure how all that shipping would work out. I'll contact them and if they give me a partial refund and say i can keep the book i will be happy. I am not want to spend more money sending it back.
Wednesday buys and an IST order from yesterday. Now I'm just waiting on the three Sweet Tooth HCs and a deal I got on a Morrison Patrol omni to come in the next week or two.
I forgot how beautiful my first Hellboy library was when I bought it like eight years ago. My autism makes me want to buy a replacement for it, seeing it slightly faded and beat up next to the new one.
>Orc Stain
Neat!
How's I Am a Hero?
Also did you get both covers of Black Hammer because they were both so good?
Not him but I'm not a big fan. It's the Japanese zombie apocalypse so if you like that idea you can try it but I ended up dropping it pretty early on.
I've read through the first two, and I personally really like it. The first omni was incredibly well-paced in my opinion. The main character has a lot of mental hangups that have him bouncing between assuring himself he's important and that he's "the hero" of his life while being shit on by it, and being in complete denile about what's happening to the world so far.
Alita was being positive-review bombed by the same people dicking with Captain Marvel.
It/s a 6/10 Sci-Fi movie with very little audience (and weak word-of-mouth).
Just picked this one up the other day in my LCS.
Lucifer's getting omnis. That counts, right?
Oh, and I got both covers because I'm trying to buy variants when convenient, and I like Bill Stinky Winky, especially the Question covers he did. The regular cover is so I'll have a complete and therefore easier to sell lot later when I get the collected versions of Age of Doom. But the regular cover is really good, I agree.
Everyone should own Orc Stain. Just so it forces him to make more.
I was very meh on Wyrd. Is issue 2 any better?
My only recent purchases were me finishing up collecting the Battle Angel Alita manga, so I won't post those.
1/2
2/2
>Just so it forces him to make more.
Yeah, good luck with that.
Wyrd #1 was okay. I just kind of like the "strange detective who takes strange assignments" stories, and I haven't read a terrible lot of them yet so I feel like I'm more lenient on it. I was also desperate to pick up something as it came out, and it's only a mini so it's not much of a commitment.
And I haven't read it yet. I'll give an opinion when I do tomorrow.
I always forget the significance of this issue and it makes me mad because I should remember it.
Yes, absolutely. It's one giant conspiracy against Disney. Poor, poor little Disney.
>Wednesday buys
Are those allowed? Because I would love to be able to post Wednesday pick ups
What is the significance of the red batman?
>Are those allowed?
No. I'm shocked I haven't been banned yet. Mods must be asleep.
Don't jinx it man
Just read the first three issues of Die. Really dug the premise and the art is good but its so bleh and rushed in its writing. Disappointed
you make a thread for them.
Issue 2 showed what it could be. Issue 1 was a setup and issue 3 was WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING? Momentem was halted cause he wanted some side story? You don'tdo that at issue 3.
I am digging it but not buying it so far. Give me something cause i love the premise but you have given me nothing
What are some cheaper ways to display floppies on the wall? I looked into Snap-Its and its got mixed reviews, with the negative ones bashing them for being "oily / greasy".
Have you tried an invention called the photo frame?
Those things that are made to hold one piece of paper and not a whole magazine? Believe it or not, no, it didn't cross my mind.
Did the Berserk Deluxe Edition already go out of stock?
Well, you're in luck. Now, sit down and put a helmet on, because I don't want to make a mess when I blow your mind. Those photo frames will indeed accommodate more than a piece paper; they will accommodate a comic book as well! And if you want to do it on the cheap, check out this website which describes an IKEA hack. (yoshicast.com
Wow! That's really amazing user! I mean, except for the part where Ikea doesn't sell those frames anymore!
I found some shitty Dollar Tree frames at 8x11 I'll try instead. Thanks for the input, user. Always appreciated.
You're welcome bro! Displaying comics is always a bitch; especially to make sure the comic isn't damaged and sits in the frame properly. I hope the Dollar Store ones work out
You're looking at IST?
They never made it available to purchase.
I just went and used Amazon, little over 45% off now with that little coupon.
>shitty Dollar Tree frames
Report back on how that goes, I work at one of those hellholes and I want to frame a couple of comics myself.
Best fucking thing I found there, Alan Moore's biography, hardback with the little slip of paper on the front cover.
Seen some TPBs there too, nothing remarkable. Marvel that no one wanted and random Irredeemable volumes.
Not the original user but I'm sure it's the issue in Miller's run where DD and Punisher have their first gun standoff to decide whether a criminl should live or die, and DD shoots Frank in the shoulder when they both decide there's no alternative to shooting each other, and put their lives on the line. It's also the tail end of the arc with the pacemaker. I'll always be mad that Garfth turned Frank into a conviction-less pussy who wanted to *outsmart* DD instead of having this kind of conviction
yes but you can buy one and then have the mat duplicated allowing you to use them in a frame you buy.
which i did.
i find the hellboy and plague of frogs storylines interweaving is the best way to read all that fleshes it all out so much knowing what else was going on.
Oh come on. I was getting volume one and two soon.
But wouldn't you much rather have Crisis Events in a handy slip-case? Eh? EHH?
Bump with reply to my own shelf. Get GITS: Continuity Script if you're a fan of the Oshii movie, people. About 220 pages of storyboards (5 a page, plus notes in JP) plus some character and mechanical drawings at the back. It's dope.
I need to get the movie on bluray first though.
That's fair. I've had it on SD DVD for years and never upgraded. I remember well enough to parse the gaps between boards tho
Ooh, got Trial of Oliver Queen just now. Tonight will be Green Arrow night.
These just arrived. I bought all of them as a lot for $30, but I'm probably going to try to sell the Aquaman and Batman books (and possibly Empire because I have no idea what it is).
Reposting again. Have rearranged them since but only to fit more books on, no changes to the comics.
All I've bought recently are the Kevin Wada covers to that new Buffy series Boom is doing. Going to frame them and get them up on my wall once there's a few more out and I've decided how I want to arrange them. Series itself is fine so far, but all I really care about is that they're cool portraits of the characters from the show.
>These just arrived. I bought all of them as a lot for $30
Holy shit dude you made off like a bandit. That Final Night trade is damn near impossible to find under $40. Last night I literally just gave up looking for that for my GL shelf and bought the floppies instead.
>MHA volumes
>not one matches
Why
Yupp, it's pretty nice. Some guy was selling a bunch of nineties stuff in a local Facebook group and I guess he wasn't aware of how much it's worth.
Birthright was the same way. Its another comic that's all premise just so it can be sold for adaptation
Holy shit, this is a library.
10/10 Bro
Great Collection
Went to HPB last night, got two volumes of Jonah Hex! Combined with the six I got last month i'm close to completing the run.
>Holy shit, this is a library
This gives me a good idea for a thread
If not sarcasm, then thanks
Based Hex user.
I think I have around a little more than half of the trades between HPB and some local shops that still have new copies. I have #1-36 or so straight, and then a random #50-#55 or something like that.
Jeez them some tall boys. Hope they don't tip over.
Who are Carl Barks and Junjo Ito?
Not too much new stuff
1/3
2/3
3/3
And my new stuff. Didnt know Torso was signed when I got it so that was kind of nice.
Look what came today. Still wrapped in plastic and at retail price.
I’ve also got Ellis’ Thunderbolts Ultimate Collection TPB in transit.
Had a good scrounge through the sale shelves in local Forbidden Planet last week.
They're all fastened together and form a 90 degree angle with the 3 on the left against one wall, and the bookcase and 3 on the right against another. Stable enough.
Shut up
What
No pictures, but I recently picked up
Batman: The Cult
Daredevil: Born Again
Spider-Man: The Thousand 1-3
Spider-Man: Unlimited 3-6
Spectacular Spider-Man #100
The 'Nam 44,47,48 & 50
>fellow duck friend
Nice! About to pick up the new Spider-Man because I liked Superior Foes and Ant-Man.
>gave dad Duck tpb for his birthday
>he won't read it and keeps it on his shelf unopened in the bag
>had to buy him another for him to actually read it
i got a small haul this week nothing to great
rasl complete hc
and the seller of rasl threw these in for free
They came a day early!
I honestly didn't know Kindt worked on any actual DC stuff before. I have the first volume but I've never read. I really should.
Based Duck poster. Excited to dip my toe in the pond with the Complete Life and Times in April. I don't know if they delayed it or what but it was originally set to ship in February so I'm a little disappointed.
Different user, I saw it was delayed. I asked Don Rosa at a convention and he told me that the new volume was supposed to ship in February
>Get Johns Aquaman Omnibus for 20 bucks
>Take off dust jacket
>Get this
Steal of a lifetime
Kindt is meh as fuck except for Mind MGMT
That's a bummer. I'm putting off reading it for the first time until I have the physical book, and I've been looking forward to it for quite a while. It's for the best. My spending was out of control this month. I must have thrown around $200+ at books.
I definitely don't disagree, and I wouldn't even argue to hard against Mind MGMT being just okay, but I've only read the first HC and it at least made me want to keep reading. The art is just awful, though. It doesn't fit the subject matter and generally looks rushed. I've seen some iffy panels from Lemire before too but he pulls off that style far better.
>Complete Calvin & Hobbes
I just bought that recently too. Not pictured, because it's too big to fit on the shelf.
I also have the complete Farside, but that's the same issue.
Oh, I also bought Black Hole and Rex Libris.
Last weekend my LCS chain had a huge back issue sale, thus I dubbed it "Venom Weekend" and just drove around looking for as much Venom as my wallet could handle. First day of the sale was great and I splurged a lot, but the amount I could find dwindled later that day and Saturday I only managed to hit jackpot (even scored some V for Vendetta issues) in one location of the 3 I went. Last stop I got myself a new box and a mini Venom lego figure. Dunno if I'll post all of the issues I picked up here since there's a good chunk, if y'all want to see my haul, sure.
I also got my adorable Venom statue and the only other Funko thing I own. It looks cute next to my other figure and it's actually a bobble head. So my shrine is still steadily growing.
Carl Barks is just some shithead who is angry that he can't keep stealing from Based Disney
I've never heard of him before. He must've had zero influence.
bump for the Spider-Man Handbook
You need a bump and I havent posted the shelves in order since january.
anyone ever have a custom bound job done before? i've been really itching to do it, so i've been working on pic related.
oh shit, that's cool man. I own all the floppies too that would be awesome to do
Why add the random QR scan?
It's not random, amigo. And it's a placeholder. Scan it and find out.
I think the back can be made to look better. I doubt you'll be looking at a lot for it to actually matter though.
Their non Gold/Silver/Bronze omni interior covers have been really nice lately.
I'm not finished just yet, but what would you suggest?
The middle needs the most work. Just changing the width of the green bars and adjusting the contributors to middle align would make it look better. Also pushing it a little further down the page to make it more in the middle. That should be fine if you don't plan on changing anything else.
I personally like covers that are fully illustrated or wrap around like You could keep the "Collects issues" and put the "QR scan box" in the corner if you can find one of those. I'd have to see the illustration to actually tell you anything specific.
Just received:
Kurt Busiek's Red Tornado
Howard Chaykin's Blackhawk
Cinder & Ashe
All of Doctor Fate volume 2
All of Doctor Fate volume 4
Justice League Taskforce
All of Hawkworld
Phil Foglio's Angel and the Ape
Phil Foglio's Stanley and His Monster
Nathaniel Dusk
Nathaniel Dusk II
Jemm Son of Saturn
Bronze age is the best age.
I've got a question regarding the C&H collection; I remember when it came out in hardcover I was really excited but passed because I read all those reviews of people saying that the quality of the binding was total shit and they'd fall apart after only a few reads. Is the softcover version that came out a few years later okay or is that still shoddily made?
How is the new Red Sonja series with Mark Russel?
it's just a single issue but solid so far, it will probably get more interesting as it gets more involved in the nation wars and world building. I'm loving a lot of Dynamite's output these days and it wasn't a disappointment at all, just enough to wet the appetite.
Now if they can only manage to do some great things with Vampirella
I thought the Vampirella/Dejah Thoris was started off alright. Did some of the new issues ruin it?
oh, I enjoyed the whole run, but it's over. But it's her 50th anniversary and I want something special, hell, even just a decent ongoing would be nice.
>50th anniversary and I want something special
Me too user, me too.
I am so jelouse right now. That's some nice stuff
Oh. I see what you're saying. That is supposed to be there because right next to will be a blurb about the book; I just haven't got to it yet. Like pic related.
...
Well played, Alex Ross
bump
Im a big fan. A decent change of pace for Russell but it doesnt lose his wit when appropriate
>Phil Foglio's Angel and the Ape
His style seems great for the art of a title like that, but how's his writing outside of Girl Genius?
Yeah, that many issues is insane, and likely impossible. 2" spines are ideal, around 30 issues on average.
The appeal is for these to be a step above trades, and more portable than omniboo. I would suggest skipping art-on-cover and getting a faux-leather cover instead. You can print out a dust jacket if you really want, but these books look better as library editions. You can add that info as a Table of Contents instead.
Idk. I always loved the colorful custom binds, myself.
Those look good as shelf porn, and the guy who makes those is a genius at design. But it's so much nicer having a rounded spine.
For the time saved by skipping the Photoshop work, just pay a little bit more for a few dies and play around with font placement and color choices. I much prefer designs similar to these.
I think these belong to Fiffe, so obviously his sense of design is top-notch as well. Definitely a more mature feeling to them, though I do like how bombastically comic-y are.
We could always just meet in the middle. And as much as I do enjoy the look a library edition, it just doesn't scream.. Comic Book to me. I like the art, colors, etc to kinda jump out.
How much is a 20-ish issue bind?
doesn't really say. but i mean, they seem to be able to do more than 20 issues. i suppose it's just what you want to pay in the end, really.
I like most of those, good stuff
The number of issues doesn't really matter; it's more a matter of thickness. Anything over 2.5" will cost extra, if they'll even do it at all, because that's stupid thick.
I'd suggest doing some test binds. For me, it's really about the texture. I truly do hate the glossy feeling, even if they do look cool. Your mileage may vary.
Damn, you guys really make me want to custom bind some shit, but I can't find a company in my country that are willing to bind comics and sending my comics to England seems like both an expensive and risky venture right now.
been wanting to get that collection of calvin and hobbes
>tfw been wanting to get berserk
>new deluxe edition comes out
all my waiting paid off
Is there a minimum for how many issues are needed to be custom bound? I have a few shorter runs that I would love to have in HC that'll never happen unless I go custom.
>Ostrander Spectre
>ROM
Whoever owns these is a man of high culture.
>that Spectre
Goddammn this looks good.
I've seen a single issue bound before - I think it'd be a waste to only bind 6-12 issues though. In that case, I'd strongly suggest binding by author instead, or finding a few other minis that you can link thematically.
you should learn to do the binding yourself.
then you can add your own marbling to the inside covers and feel like a top art hoe.
That does sound kind of cool, and I'm always down for being an art hoe. I'm going to have to take a look at it.
Who are some influential western comic artists that didn't work at DC/Marvel?
I could never go whole hog on binding because I like to have the covers easily visible and flip-through-able too much
There is some stuff I plan on binding though.
Joseph Keppler
Carl Barks
Winsor McCay
Fontaine Fox
Will Eisner
Bud Fisher
Milt Caniff
Bill Holman
Alex Raymond
Hal Foster
Roy Crane
Gustave Flaubert
Dan DeCarlo
Walt Kelly
Jack Cole
Matt Baker
Charles Schultz
Kevin Eastman & Peter Laird
Steven Hughes
I can't tell, I haven't read it yet. I'm .
>including Schultz but not Bill Watterson
Can you say what they're known for? Because I have no clue who any of that is.
Yo, Big Guy? How is that? I'd always been interested in looking into that, since I have vague memories of enjoying the cartoon.
>not knowing Will Eisner or Charles Schultz
be serious, user
>Will Eisner
Isn't he the disney guy?
not the OP but Big Guy is my jam. Its so fun and the art is amazing.
Jim Lee
These pussies can't get job in DC or Marvel. Losers
New 52 Red Hood's cover is badass underneath the dust jacket.
>that Spectre
God damn I want it to be in an omnibus. I have the trades but they didn't finish the whole run in trades.
How many of these are actually influential?
Restructuring has truly begun
I should have added, that Electric Warriors trade cancellation confirms some of the news out of the Comicpro meetings:
Not all current ongoings or miniseries will be getting trades now, and that one specifically has really bad sales
>Electric Warriors 03 (of 06) 6,540
good lord above
jesus fuck......
I don't get it
Hope they focus more on bigger collections. Cash in on hardcore nerds that will buy new absolutes.
WB is being gutting and restructured following the purchase by ATT. The head honcho for HBO quit yesterday, and it was announced today that they are going to focus on quantity over quality now.
Over in the DC end, last month 3% of staff was laid off, which was actually just seven people.
But one of those seven was the trade department marketer, the guy who designed the Ink and Zoom kid/teen OGN line. Yeah, they fired him before one of those even came out. The most news the poor guy had recently was when Didio shoved him out to take the heat from angry retailers over the Batman #50 wedding snafu.
Some of those are even popular?
is Uzumaki supposed to be horror or comedy?
Ito is sort of both imho.
Sure is! As batshit insane as you'd hope.
Also the paperback pictured is really good; huge pages and good quality paper.
Is Owen Fitzgerald any good?
Definitely. Some stuff's pretty bleak, but there's definitely comedy in stuff like Souichi, parts of Uzumaki, that one story where the dude is crushed under the weight of being the provider for his traditional Japanese household, etc.
I adore that household short. Read it in a storytime and everyone lost their mind when they realized its theme. Good times
>Gustave Flaubert
Fuck, I meant Gustave Verbeek
All.
I don't see how any of them are influential
Just finished reading Mark Russell's Lone Ranger and its really fun. Dynamite is doing great right now with that and Red Sonja. Plus finally an omni for The Boys coming out soon
Don’t get me wrong , I’m enjoying the hell out of it, but not because it’s scary, but because this book has me laughing out loud more than anybody ever has. I just finished the chapter where the guy turns into a snail, and the other guy turns into a snail, and then the very last page of the chapter is the teacher crawling in the class after he also turned into a snail.
And then the next chapter will begin it’ll just be business as usual, everyone witnessed all the crazy stuff that happened, but they’re just like whatever And go about their lives. It’s fucking hilarious
I completely agree but its also sort of terrifying. Its so bizarre all I can do is laugh. I remember losing my shit when the snail stuff started simply for how clever it was with the use of spirals
yup, you should check out Elvira too. And Barbarella/Dejah Thoris is great so far. Mars Attacks is good too, but just not really my thing so I eventually dropped it.
ANd a chapter or two earlier was where the girls hair becomes cursed by the spiral and shes walking around with these 6 feet tall hair pinwheels that mesmerize the whole town.
Like you said it’s so bizarre all you can do is laugh. I don’t think ever had so much fun reading a comic.
its definitely Ito's masterpiece but all of his works feel the same way.
Holy fuck. I guess that's the final nail in the coffin for things like Ostrander's Spectre, Pollack's DP etc. ever getting fully reprinted
Jeezus these are pretty amazing, really dig that Resurrection Man collection.
On that note; what runs would /shelf/ like to get bound? For me;
>Palmiotti & Gray's Jonah Hex and All-Star Western (around 104 issues so split across 4-5 books I guess)
>The 'Nam (around 70 issues)
>Wolfman and Kupperberg's Vigilante (50 issues + 2 annuals)
I'd also love to do artist specific collections, like some JLGL that's never been reprinted
Does anyone have Deluxe Curse of Shazam? I wanna know how it looks under the dust jacket. Most hardcovers I throw the dust jacket away except for Multiversity because it has the map to the multiverse inside and The Button's.
Yupp. I had really hoped for a L.E.G.I.O.N. collection back when they were collecting a bunch of LoSH stories, but that's definitely not happening either.
Even Didio as publisher couldn't get the authorization to get them to finish printing R.E.B.E.L.S. vol 2, so L.E.G.I.O.N. was doomed.
They are not very co/ related, but it's been a while since the last time I bought something.
What about it?
It's funny
Ugh, yeah. What the hell was even up with that shit.
>What the hell was even up with that shit.
It's been a while since I checked, but that series had cancellation numbers from almost the start.
The last issue sold exactly 10K, back in 2011. The book only stayed around because of nepotism (Bedard was a long time DC editor)/Didio liked it and wanted it to continue (see also Jaime BB and Jonah Hex/All Star Western).
Didio simply couldn't convince his superiors that people would buy trades of the last section of the series.
bump
Hey guys I’m drunk and I just wanted to say I hate this board so much, but I love shelf it’s literally the only reason I come to this fucking website XOXO
Gen13
lol Electric Warriors won't get collected, Orlando suuuuuuuuucks
FAG! how drunk?
i got wasted last night and ordered tom king mr miracle and dan jurgens dc rebirth action comics trade paperbacks. currently reading grant morrisons doom patrol.
This might just be unreasonable optimism, but I would expect some resolicits coming after they figure this out. As far as I'm aware, the round of cancellations that Absolute Swamp Thing was in got resolicited with no one left behind.
If I'm a fan of doom patrol, would I be disappointed watching the live action version
no. the tv show is just a watered down version, but its still pretty wacky. wont be disappointed.
absolutely. The TV show is the most simplified version imaginable. In its own right its probably the best DC show but that's some low standards.
It's better than Gotham and BTAS/JLU?
>i got wasted last night and ordered
God I hope I get there tonight. Worked out for me last week.
Im reading Moonshadow. Its charming but a little bloated. Unsure if ill pick up the new edition when it comes out but to be fair I havent finished yet
better than Gotham but I guess I should have specified live action TV shows. Better than Titans, Flash, Arrow, and all that garbage
Faggot
Based
If I ever get drunk alone I'm going to end up spending the money on like 30 creepy and/or eerie archives
whatd you get?
Oh, well. That doesn't set the bar to high.
I gotta start collecting these, but I don't know if they're going to finish them.
I got a couple as a gift a while ago, they do stand by themselves pretty well.
Sweet Tooth HCs. It came to $50.53 and IST is free shipping after $50 so drunk me nailed it.
No, the tv show is actually amazing. It's not a complete recreation of Morrison's run but it incorporates parts lf it.
absolutely Vamp-pilled
Were the HCs?
Are there any comics about female, hot spies?
Velvet by Ed Brubaker. I guess Black Widow but I dont know if she has any good runs
I hope everyone is having as nice a night as I am. It's raining outside. Im home in bed with my dog next to me reading comics. Maximum comfy
Danger Girl
Hunter-Killer
Madame Mirage (reaaaaaly hot)
There's probably a ton from the late 90s/early 2000s era of Bad Girl comics
DC cancels good books like Peter David's Aquaman but fucking prints out Omnibus of shit books like New 52 Red Hood. I'd understand it if they'll do Rebirth Red Hood but not that piece of turd.
it is kinda lame, i get ya.... I'm just hoping the Swamp Thing series they've got coming is gonna be great
is Umbrella Academy better?
I have no faith in it sadly. Of Swamp Thing was being made by someone like Robert Eggers id be hyped but these definitely feel producer driven
Don't listen to these faggots. Doom Patrol is great. Some things in the comic can't be translated perfectly but they managed to make animal-vegitable-mineral man look good. Fraisure knocks it out of the park with Robot Man, it isn't just a meme he is great. And they manage to find the right balance between humor, weird/wacky, and genuine feelins of troubled people. The main thing that will piss off some elitists is that it isn't as meta as they want, but those people are just fags who jerk off to Morrison.
UA i found boring as hell. It drags SO much, bothing much ever happens, it's worse than Marvel Netflix for that
I love Moonshadow. I'd take it, bloated and all, because it never gets old. Literally a masterpiece of the medium, as far as I'm concerned.
What's this about a new edition though?
I think there's a new hardcover edition coming out in a few months. Saw it. mentioned on twitter
Modesty Blaise
Just checked eBay for their prices and it looks like it's not worth selling my Epic/Vertigo trades then. The latter is so thin that it feels like I could rip a page with every turn.
Glad more people will be introduced to the work.
Just checked amazon. Comes out June 25th. And it looks like its being released through Dark Horse so it should be quality
Iron Fist, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage season 2s are pleb filter
Yet somehow more happens in them than UA in the first 8 episodes
Daredevil S1 is great. I don't care how much Yea Forums hates it.
Behold my shit taste! (1/3)
(2/3)
I did a lot of extra chores for those Calvin and Hobbes books when I was a kid. I have a big Garfield collection too, but I haven't taken it out of one of my boxes.
Any nautical/magical stories that are good? The only one I can think of is Aquaman.
(3/3) I'm missing Vol 2 of Empowered. I'm worried I let someone borrow it and forgot who. Thinking I'm just gonna order a new one. It bothers me having missing volumes.
Nope. I love the scattered X-Men. I am so fuckig jelouse of those Final Fantasy books. And The Darkness would be fantastic as well. I am sure i would love more at a closer look too. But i like your /shelves/ a lot, cause the variety in it is great.
>shit taste!
Nope.
Barks had some very good Donald Duck sailing stories
Also classic Popeye had lots of sailing
Cortose Maltese, while it is usually grounded there is magical aspects in it
>Barks had some very good Donald Duck sailing stories
Any way to pinpoint which ones had sailing themes? Most of his work doesn't have his name on it, so it's kind of hard to pinpoint. Other people tell me that his style is different than other duck artists, but I can't tell them apart yet.
The scattered X-Men were when I got back into comics in college and tried to find what I could at the local bookstore. Then I found a shop and most of my collection became floppies. I basically dumped floppies after Marvel Now! and New 52. I just didn't like the titles enough anymore. Now I just buy trades, except for Gold Digger which I have a sub for. I went on an Injustice kick recently. I'm enjoying the spectacle of the run and am kinda impressed with how they keep raising the bar of ridiculousness.
The Final Fantasy books are worth it. A lot of art books can be disappointing, but these really give you the guts of the games.
The Horseradish Story, The Golden Helmet and Back to Long Ago would be good places to start
As a HUGE Amano and FF fan i really need them. The Injustice is the main thing i am meh on in your collection. Love the Danger Girl oversized, and your Top Cow stuff. I need to read Gold Diggers and Blacksad. Who is the writer for that Red Sonja?
Thanks fren
>Justice League: Zero Hour
>Aquaman by Peter David Book Three
>Flash/Impulse: Runs in the Family
Cool stuff DC. Yeah, just cancel that shit up...
Do you have The Sky boxset of Amano's? Collections a good portion of his work from FF-FFX. Pretty essential if you're even a casual fan, imo
No. I have been hesitant for aome reason to pull the trigger on what i want. IV and VI are my favs and i might just want that...but i also love the early stuff too. Just one of those things I am dumb about not doing
i wanna get into conan
redpill me on conan
It fucking sucks that Parallax Hal was finally getting reprinted and recollected and just gets shitfucked left and right by this. Kyle trades dead, Zero Hour dead, this is fucking shit.
Yuuuup. Glad to know DC is essentially killing there trades. And I was enjoying more obscure stuff being collected. Can't wait for Watchmen, Batman, and Superman trades only from here on out. At least they'll finish Suicide Squad. Probably not Teen Titans or Young Justice though.
DC already said 10 years ago every comic reader must own 2 copies of Watchmen to justify the sales....what gives?
He actually wears armor sometimes and he's a really smart fellow that doesn't rush blindly into battle, in contrast to the stereotypical barbarian.
Remember, he might be a mere wandering swordsman now, but his destiny is as the King of Aquilonia.
Idk man. I mean, Watchmen was alright, but it's not like it's the second coming of Christ; and most of the things they've done with it, such as Before Watchmen and to a degree, Doomsday Clock, have been rather trash. Just give the shit back to Moore and let it go. It's just hindering them at this point and it's not like Moore would do anything with it.
Start from the beginning. It's pretty much all good.
Are they really cancelling Watchmen?
forever
Does this mean I actually have to buy the trade now? It was always in print so I prioritized other shit.
you mean you don't own more copies than your library? it's the only way to show you are a /casual/
Any stories about robots?
1001011 11001101 0110010 00100101
"KNOW, oh prince, that between the years when the oceans drank Atlantis and the gleaming cities, and the years of the rise of the Sons of Aryas, there was an Age undreamed of, when shining kingdoms lay spread across the world like blue mantles beneath the stars—Nemedia, Ophir, Brythunia, Hyperborea, Zamora with its dark-haired women and towers of spider-haunted mystery, Zingara with its chivalry, Koth that bordered on the pastoral lands of Shem, Stygia with its shadow-guarded tombs, Hyrkania whose riders wore steel and silk and gold. But the proudest kingdom of the world was Aquilonia, reigning supreme in the dreaming west. Hither came Conan, the Cimmerian, black-haired, sullen- eyed, sword in hand, a thief, a reaver, a slayer, with gigantic melancholies and gigantic mirth, to tread the jeweled thrones of the Earth under his sandalled feet."
—The Nemedian Chronicles.
Now go buy the new Marvel omnibus and grow some hair on your chest.
Question to Spideyfags. I'm considering selling my Ditko/Lee omnibus and getting the Epic Collections. Is this worth it? The FF Annual's in the first FF EC, so I'd still have that but I think I'd lose Strange Tales Annual 2 completely
Ok, worked it out. To make up all the content, I'd need
>ASM Epic 1
>ASM Epic 2
>Human Torch: Strange Tales, Complete (Kirby comic, so I'm tempted anyway)
Well then do it.
I know a bunch of people who don't really read or even like comics that just own Watchmen like that makes any sense. People seem to think that it's the peak of the medium or the most important story or whatever.
It's not really a comic, it's a graphic novel. That was an actual line spoken by an actual human being.
can't believe it got greenlit
It's still like £60. I need some time and to actually sell the Omni. Also is it worth doing formatwise?
>formatwise
I prefer the omnis.
at my LCS theres this big oversized artist edition of the first two? issues of some shitty Warren Ellis comic and it makes me pissed that good comics don't get that
Scud the disposable assassin. It's an action comic about a robot assassin that comes out of a vending machine, with a very goofy and 90's style. Slightly similar aesthetic to Invader Zim.
Forgive me, /shelf/, I have sinned.
Put this up today to honor Stan the man
no different that my buying vinyl chogs. and i have bought a lot of vinyl chogs.
That's a great display. Nice work
Thanks dude I really appreciate it
what?
Descender is some good shit
very nice
Pathethic.
What the fuck did you just say you cunt rash
How are the Kabuki hardcovers people have? I heard the art is stretched? Does it ruin them?
>It's not really a comic, it's a graphic novel
What's the difference?
I am and yes, it ruins the first story and is why I have Circle of Blood in the normal format as well. However, it ONLY ruins Circle of Blood cause that story is depended on having geometrically perfect circles. Dreams is still stretched but it doesn't effect the story at all because it's all surreal watercolour paintings. And this is only a problem with the Library Vol 1, all the rest are properly formatted.
I don't see how Dark Horse fucked that up so bad but they did
Wtf, user he's Captain Train! Hero of the limbless and crutched!
Thanks for the help. If I decide to pick them up I guess i'll do the same and get a normal format circle of blood.
I can't recommend Kabuki enough. Circle of Blood is a "traditional" assassin story but it also is one of the best examples of simultaneous storytelling, some pages are able to tell 3 stories at once, and it's also a very deep examination of some Japanese culture they keep hidden. From the first book you can tell it's Mack's most personal work and acts as therapy about the loss of his mother and as the books go it transitions into straight out therapy and then ends with his whole ideas of recreating yourself through art and all his ideas on what art is, why it's important and encourages everyone to create art in order to make themselves better people. It's extremely uplifting by the end, but you find yourself going through a bit of therapy with the character.
Sounds great, thank you.
Thinking about Stan. What a Legend
I always stay positive in these threads but to be honest, this is the only thing that gets my blood boiling. It's just the biggest excuse of a product and ultimately the best example of people churning out money for the most simplistic kind of cheap-ass product
Don't be rude, what's wrong with buying a product that he likes?
>tfw got drunk enough to finally spring for Absolute Sandman vol. 1 last night
I'm excited. I read the first trade the other month to feel it out, and I'm really looking forward to this. I've put off reading it for so long.
It's Red Sonja She-Devil with a Sword 0-18. Writers are Michael Oeming(0-6, 8-18), Mike Carey(0-6), J.T. Krul(7). This omnibus along with The Darkness omnibus I nabbed when Borders went under a long time ago. haha Only cost me $25 between the two of them.
I was putting off on them forever too, but I found them for half price and couldn't say no.
oh cool, didn't know Carey wrote Red Sonja
What are some happy comics for someone feeling depressed and worthless?
>paying money for Agents of Shield and Iron Fist.
Serenity Rose, Kabuki, My Lesbian experience with Loneliness for joining a person who is feeling that and growing with them out of it.
Anything fun for escapism if you want that I just finished Ironwood and storytiming it on /aco/ and it's hilarious
Or Chris Ware to wallow
Meh, there's no nendoroid Yellow DD, and I don't want a figure with joints. Also statues are expensive. It's my only Funko purchase. My shelves are here so I've read plenty of *actual comics* too. Calm the 'tism
Pickups from recent weeks. I'm trying Mind MGMT after seeing all the praise here.
i see you like tim sale's art too. your alright in my book
How's Mr Punch?
Batgirl year one was the first comic book I've ever bought. I'm proud to see someone else still likes it, or even just seeing it here.
Just finished Alister Arcane, it was really good, a fun tongue in cheek style horror where it was the art that brought a nice dark layer over a 60s style horror story. At this point i think i an down to read any Steve Niles book.
I've actually been curious as to Niles' work. I was thinking about getting Criminal Macabre. Ever read it?
not that one, I've read Transfussion and Lust and loved those both. I've also read a few of his things from the library but I can't remember the names, I just remember enjoying them.
It's a pretty dark childhood story about person reflecting on their boyhood and puppet shows. Dave McKean's art is amazing and the puppets themselves are photographs of collages. The whole book looks like Sandman covers.
Thanks. I haven't read it yet but I will soon.
