It actually wouldn't be bad after a few movies of set up. X3's main problem (besides switching directors and being rushed shit) was that they wanted to do Dark Phoenix AND the Mutant Cure, and the plots didn't even really come together in anyway. But it's because movies are made a certain way, and you can't just say "Magneto isn't in the 3rd movie". So you have Magneto (like you also will this time), mucking around in a story he had nothing to do with in the comics, just eating up time that needs to go to Dark Phoenix.

At least in X3 we knew Jean for two full movies beforehand, new girl was introduced last movie, right? I sure don't feel like I know her as a character, so why do I care if she's crazy and going to kill everyone she loves? The only way to do the story justice is to lead in with Scott and Jean as the clear main characters for enough movies. Civil War only works on film because Tony and Steve are lead characters for several films before they fight, and that's the emotional weight the original Dark Phoenix Saga had on readers.

Color is off, even for daytime lighting, make up looks CAKED ON, and the wig is very different. Even her look in First Class was far more detailed, this is clearly so she doesn't have to sit in make up all day for one scene where they kill her.
