What's "this" exactly?
i think thats normal for books in general
The binding coming apart from the spine, I'd imagine.
And I'd say it's not exactly uncommon, especially for first printing runs. Always read an Amazon review of an omni before you buy it.
That's because it's glued.
Glued bindings are usually shit and wear out quickly, increasing with page count.
When you're getting a thick as fuck Omni, you want one that's stitched. Much more durable.
That's normal for both glued and sewn bindings. Typically, an especially for books with many pages and thick spines, the binding is not fastened directly to the spine of the cover. This is done so that they can flex independently of one another.
Just be sure to care for your omnibi by not flexing them too harshly. I've heard that you can decrease the amount of pressure and wear on an omni by opening it carefully the first few times. First stand the book up on it's spine. Then lay the front and back cover flat on the table while holding the pages together upright, perpendicular to the table. Then open the pages a few at a time on each aide, until you reach the middle of the book and it's laying open completely. Doing this supposedly stretches the spine slowly and helps avoid spine breakage.
Also temperature plays a role.
Just unboxed an omni on a cold morning?
Let that thing get to room temperature before you stretch it's spine.
When I got my Fourth World omni, I stuck that bitch under an electric blanket.
>This is done so that they can flex independently of one another.
It's called an eyehole, I think, but I think OP is talking about how the binding is coming lose from the pages on the left side.
Is this /shelf/?
I just started drinking the Rick Rememder koolaid, and all his Image stuff is in these massive deluxe hardcovers, massive as in the size of a DC Absolute. Only Rememder gets these things, no one else at Image gets these things, and fuck me are they gorgeous. They’re twice as thick as most absolutes while costing less than half as much. Why are Absolutes so damn overpriced??
I see what you mean. I thought that was just part of the cover flexing
There are guides to opening these things, though some of the older books may not bode as well as some of the more modern books.
I use a cookbook book stand for my omnis. That's good, right?
If it's not the kind with a lip that'll fuck up the bottom, it sounds good.
Nice digits. I use one of these

>actually needing a device to read an omnibus
What kind off Nancy boy are you ?
This entire thread is about not fucking up your books. Plus that shit is just convenient to use
I own dozens of omnis, have never had a problem reading them, and have never “fucked up” mine. Unless you’re a woman or have the muscle mass of one I hardly see why you’d ever struggle
>Imma big strong man who can take care of his books!
Aren't you cute?
>I need an assistance device to read a book
This is you. THAT is cute
The binding is so cheap in various omnis that holding them causes them to come loose under their own weight. That's what happens unless you just sit them flat on a desk.
I believe you, that being said, which omnis?
Well luckily none of my HUGE omnis have shown signs of decay, but it's strange what did; my vol 3 Library Edition of Hellboy. It's not terrible, but you can see the glue come undone at the bottom. Is there an easy fix for this? Might be good to know later I guess.
Buying a DC omni of that size is just asking for trouble desu
Which is why I'm terrified of buying the Fourth World omni
I think DC move to sewn bindings by the time they released the fourth world, so you might be all right I would still look for YouTube videos to get a better sense of what it is. Luckily I have the old hard covers so that’s not a decision I’ve ever had to make. The invisibles omni looks to be glued which is just insane for a 1500 page book.
