Man, the way they'e portrayed here is really weird compared to their other appearances. In the other books, Department X seemed stone cold and hyper efficient. Here they seemed a bit too... nice? And also a bit ineffective. They had a little too much trouble dealing with a rat person and a guy that talks loudly.

I'm not entirely with this plot. Okay so reproduction is now handled by genetic engineering and cloning and this is done for Reasons. Presumably it's a form of control to prevent mutants from birthing babies with unsanctioned powers? Okay fine, so in order to achieve this X man wipes peoples memories of how to reproduce or that makes everyone believe it's unnatural? Yet people have been doing unnatural things for millennia and it seems there's no physical impediment to engaging in sexual intercourse. I find it absurd that this is the first time it's happened.

Because it's not about genetic births. That's not the thing that X-man is against (at least, not entirely). His whole philosophy is that "if no one has any familial or romantic/sexual relationships, then everyone will treat everyone else equally rather than prioritizing family over non-family." Unity through isolation.

It's a really bizarre philosophy (which he calls "individualism," though I'm not sure that's quite the best name for it), but "no babies" is more just a result of "no sex" which is itself a result of "no relationships."

Way he seems to see it is that people prioritize their "tribe" over everyone else. Afterall, "family first" right? You're more likely to prioritize your mother or brother or girlfriend's well-being over some random stranger's, because your family is your "tribe" while the random stranger isn't part of your tribe. But if you take that out of the equation, you remove relationships entirely, then everyone is a random stranger. If there is no "tribe" then the entire world, humanity (or mutantkind, in this case) is the "tribe." You wouldn't prioritize family or strangers because everyone is a stranger.

it's not that fucking hard to understand, read Brave New World. Getting rid of family and love as an unit overall would make people "happier". The only problem I see with his approach is that he should have desentitized them against sex, but I guess otherwise the entire story doesn't work, what with Apocalypse being a hippie now.
