It was going on before, but Parker and Stone made a call-out for yaoi fanart for that one episode and that really kicked the scene up a notch.

yeah, they keep the designs very simple and only use two or three colors to define their attire. It reminds me of Roll from Megaman.

Anime is a simplistic style, you doorknob.
It's natural for people to draw the SP characters in anime style because both styles can use the same exact face for most characters. Also they both have big eyes and small mouths, so it still reads as the same character easily.

this is still one of most cathartic moment in my life. for years I saw cartman do horrible shit to others. sure he sometimes gets what he deserves, he would get struck by lightening, car would run over him, he would get aids but if I remember correctly this was only moment in whole series where on screen recurring character that matters beat the shit out of him. well we got pc principal to beat the shit out of him too later on but that scene was punchline for a joke. it was a good joke but not cathartic enough.

I just don't understand why people take this show so seriously. It's a pure comedy show where the scripts are written in like two days. I have a Korean friend who follows the typical stereotype as someone as FujoShipper. Her explanation was simple, it's a show mainly comprised of guys who all have different and varied personality with various entertaining interactions between each other. The show isn't any different than any shōjo anime that features cute guys.
