I'm not saying it is, per se. But focusing on fighting paper thin white racists to the exclusion of other potential antagonists or narratives just feeds an 'us vs them, whites are the enemy' mentality.

The problem is that Mutants are not allowed to progress. Women got the right to vote. Segregation was repealed. Gays are getting the right to marry. Now we are onto transgendered people getting more acceptance.

All of that happened since Xmen started, and the Xmen are still exactly where they began on their social progress. Because if the X-men ever actually made progress on their goals, it would stop being X-Men. Things are never allowed to get better for them because then you would have to stop making X-men stories.

Mutants doesn't need to represent anything in real life, it's a already defined fictional universe that don't need anchors in real life since the 80s
