So, when did Gamora tell Richard were she went?
Nova

A couple minutes ago
After they finished fucking.
Probably around the same time he felt like he wanted children with her.
Ah yes, original sin. I still remember the butthurt from this issue.
I've actually met people who like Bendis' GotG that hated this issue.
Wjhy is Cates acting like Gamora had a choice in where she went? She was teleported by the infinity gems and no one knew where they sent her. Did she immediately leave that place and call Rich/starlord
To be fair, the enitre reason they're going after Nova is because Nebula thinks Gamora told him. I don't even think Nebula was present at the end of IW
So, he probably doens't know.
Butthurted because of this? Why? I'm out of the loop regarding Original Sin.
After Annihilation, I'd understand he wanted to settle down.
It's a really stupid and pointless death, and a few hours prior to this, he was rescuing Namorita, his girlfriend.
Plus, he was in his early 20's after Annihilation. It doesn't make sense to want to settle down that early.
Wasn't Rich also the one keeping it casual while Gamora was growing more attached?
I thought only Adam knew were she went since he had the soul stone zap her somewhere else but Cates' GotG #2 has Peter mentioning to Groot when they are all alone that he and Groot know where she is but that no one will find her anyway because "You can't find someone who is dead" or some bullshit.
Nebula assumes Gamora told Rich where she is but who the fuck knows if that's true.
Just read through Nova. They both wanted it to be serious but the relationship was a non-starter because Richard couldn't get over how much of a stone-cold killer Gamora was, and Gamora couldn't get over how guilty Richard made her feel over it. It pretty much fizzled out when Gamora joined the Guardians, and Richard doesn't even bat an eye when Worldmind refers to her as his psycho ex.
Cates has always been pretty quick to retcon stuff to fit his narrative. He just wasn't Bendis bad so people didn't care. Retcons are harmless for the most part when they don't go too crazy and stay in character. Look at all the changes in Venom that people were fine with until the Sister one.
Cates barely even keeps his own continuity in check, do you really expect him to follow the previous run faithfully? And the first thing he does in #2 is reference Bendis' bullshit and make Nebula into Gamora's sister. Dude doesn't know shit about Cosmic and is clearly winging it.
And it doesn't even matter, this was just an excuse to introduce Nova as a cliffhanger, because every issue needs a "fuck yeah!" moment.
To be fair, Infinity Warps was kinda shit so I really don't care.
He didn't, Cates will makes Star-Lord/Gamora canon, just like he did this...
But it's not like he has to reference Infinity Wars, because Gamora was simply put in charge of teen Magus. Wow big deal! It's not like the DnA GOTG revolved entire arcs around the Intergalactic Church of Truth where Magus was the main threat.
>He just wasn't Bendis bad so people didn't care.
This right here. The amount of people I've seen justifying his changes are baffling, even though many of these changes are fucking stupid.
Rich told her he had fell in love with her but after she slaughtered the Kree war prisoners that he entrusted her to interrogate he called their relationship off. He kept it casual ever since then but it's not like they were in a relationship afterwards because Rich was flirting with Eve Necker.
Only when Nita came back he became a one woman's man, he rejects Necker trying to kiss him and then refers to Gamora as ex-girlfriend.
I think because Gamora is the more popular character and writers know she had a thing with Nova that they push the relationship she has with him even more. Bendis pushed it because he went with the "Peter and Gamora are BFFs!" route and Humphries had the idea to make StarKitty a thing.
I am honestly more surprised no one has tried to make Peter/Gamora a thing in the comics. Yeah Duggan baited people with that one kiss (but he insists it wasn't romantic) and it's going to happen eventually but I am surprised it's taking so long.
BTW Namorita is back in Slott's Fantastic Four but I doubt anyone will even address her and Rich unless Slott does a cosmic storyline which involves the Fantastic Four and New Warriors and has the Warriors reunite for that and I could see him doing it because he likes the New Warriors.
Even though he has Nebula acknowledge Rich as the person that Gamora loves most (which is kind of ridiculous although her relationship with Adam isn't that strong anymore) and even though he clearly has Peter furious at her killing him to the point he has PTSD and doesn't give a fuck that people are going to try and kill her and doesn't care enough to go stop them.
I STILL wouldn't put it past Cates to have a scene where Gamora and Peter kiss and realize they loved each other all along, he's pretty predictable that way.
I just wish writers wouldn't push the Gamora/Rich thing since it really died off a long time ago and Rich was already flirting with other women and Gamora was back at lusting after Adam and then lusting after Major Victory. But since Bendis did it and Brevoort had a weird hate boner for time displaced Nita now everyone else followed along with what Bendis did.
>Yeah Duggan baited people with that one kiss (but he insists it wasn't romantic
Didn't she only do that to yoink a gem from him or am I misremembering? I just remember everyone being salty as fuck when it was in the preview and then nobody cared when the full issue came out. I dunno, that whole event was so bleh after his otherwise great run. I remember at the beginning he was so excited and was talking about how he had shit laid out for years like up to 50 issues or something. And then I feel like they just crushed his enthusiasm by cancelling it and railroading it into a shitty event with Deodato art. I will always be mad at Marvel for hijacking his plans like that and mad at my fellow Cosmic fans for not buying it. And now we have to deal with fucking Cates and whatever hack artist is on his book instead of the amazing wheelhouse of artists Duggan had. A just fate I suppose.
>Look at all the changes in Venom that people were fine with until the Sister one.
Were people mad that he made the sister fake? That was the one that made more sense to me for him to retcon as her being fake since Larson brings her up once out of nowhere and then she never mattered.
>I just wish writers wouldn't push the Gamora/Rich thing since it really died off a long time ago
I mean, even during Duggan's run, Rich bolted right away and left them, in total disregard of Gamora who still wanted to go with him. There's no reason why she'd still try and pursue him after that.
>Didn't she only do that to yoink a gem from him or am I misremembering?
That's right, he felt stupid for trusting her after that and even more when the next time he sees her, she puts a sword through his chest.
Peter seemed like he really wanted it, and I think most people voiced their disdain for it when it was put in a preview. My main issue with that whole scene is that Quill went on a whole speach about how he's the only man for the job to protect the Power Stone and Gamora takes it from him on her first try.
I honestly didn't like Duggan's run from beginning to end. Even though Black Order is only 4 issues in and ending next month, I think Landy should take over cosmic.
I disagree with you about Duggan because I enjoyed his GOTG and Infinity Countdown had great moments in it (Infinity Wars was a whole different deal), but I do agree about Landy, he's been doing great with his mini. Also I think Chad Bowers and Chris Sims should have more minis or at least a series to work with, using obscure characters.
Anyone but Cates. It just feels ridiculous.
Yeah it was just to yoink the gem but some people here were pissy about it and on twitter people asked Duggan why she kissed him if she was in love with Rich and Duggan responded that it wasn't romantic.
And yeah Duggan seemed so excited at the beginning but I guess him handling multiple plots and dragging his stories kind of hurt him in the end. And yeah marvel editorial hijacked his story because I know Infinity Warps amalgamation shit wasn't Duggan's idea since they mentioned in SDCC last year that it was someone in editorial who came up with it and supposedly everyone brainstormed about what they could do in that event.
Cates even said he wanted there to be a Deadpool and Black Bolt character named Deadbolt Editoria turned that idea down.
>Cates even said he wanted there to be a Deadpool and Black Bolt character named Deadbolt Editoria turned that idea down.
Thankfully, since he wrote a very shitty Black Bolt in Death of the Inhumans. What a shitshow of a mini, and I can't believe there's Cates cultists who like to pretend it doesn't exist simply because it reintroduced Beta Ray Bill. IN AN INHUMANS STORY.
>I've actually met people who like Bendis' GotG
I don't believe you
Most of the internet liked it until the second run
Well he left because Duggan wasn't going to use him and he was going to appear in the Darkhawk story.
>in total disregard of Gamora who still wanted to go with him
But he didn't do that he made it clear he was going after his brother and she asked him to wait and then he asked her if she wanted to go with him. She said yes but then gives a pretty crazy "we could use the time stone to travel back in time to save your brother" excuse and Rich answers her with a "Well when you get it port to this moment and we'll all save him each with one infinity stone" but since they both won't give up their own quest he just smiles and says "It was a good plan" and then leaves.
He didn't disregard her as much as he wasn't going to wait any longer since saving his brother from the Raptors was priority and Gamora's priority was looking for a bunch of powerful rocks.
But yes Gamora feels bad afterwards because she wanted him to stay and in that issue you see her getting increasingly upset about people slowly leaving her (Rich goes, Drax, goes, and Rocket, Groot, and Peter flat out refuse to help her on her quest). Earlier on after Drax quits and she makes a huge deal about not wanting to save Knowhere from the Gardener, she tells Rich she's going to need a new muscle guy and Rich just tells her that he is going to save Knowhere and if she wants to head his way she's welcomed to.
But no I don't think he disregards because he's a dick or anything, she was obsessed with he rown quest for the stones and wasn't going to put anyone above that. Rich wasn't going to put the stones above his brother so they parted ways.
That said I don't think Gamora and Rich should hate each other but I am pretty whatever about them being a couple at this point. Have them move on.
Oh yeah, i remember the week when Bendis watched GoT and wanted to do his own "hold the door" moment
Damn, i don't miss him at all.
Landy, Bowers and Sim, even Ewing seem like a better choice than Cates. But you know they wouldn't last long since Marvel currently wanks Cates and Aaron the most and Aaron already expressed wanting to do Guardians so the moment Cates leaves he's most likely going to take over.
Honestly, I'd be thrilled if Landy could get a Nova title. He seems like he absolutely loves the character and would do great with him. Plus, it'd be so far under the synergy radar at Marvel that he wouldn't have to worry about editorial coming down on him.
>Well he left because Duggan wasn't going to use him and he was going to appear in the Darkhawk story.
I think you sort of nailed it, though. Why would Rich worry or be concerned about Gamora right now, when he's in an active search for his brother? He only seemed to make a short stop at that planet with the big monster right before he was taken by the Dark Tide, but until then he was only concerned about finding Robbie. I don't understand why he would know shit about Gamora.
>That said I don't think Gamora and Rich should hate each other but I am pretty whatever about them being a couple at this point. Have them move on.
Yeah, Rich doesn't hate any of them (maybe Chris Powell), he only has other priorities. And they definitely should make them move on, I don't appreciate him getting so hung up over relationships, he's fine on his own. Even Peter realizes he can only trust his close friends; which isn't really a statement about women since it's not their fault Gamora is such a damaged person who truly needs to go through her redemption arc.
>Aaron already expressed wanting to do Guardians so the moment Cates leaves he's most likely going to take over.
Fuck that, don't remind me. Aaron is already doing a trash job with Avengers, if he takes over the GOTG I'm done. I'm only reading Cates out of monthly storytime of pain but I'm not planning on buying any of the issues/trades, like I did with Duggan and every other GOTG series that isn't Bendis.
The one and only thing I'll give Bendis credit for is bringing back the element gun which I've always had a soft spot for. But even that's a moot cause I don't think anyone but Zdarsky has since used it for anything cool. Most writers just treat it like a normal sci-fi blaster and hell, that was the case for Claremont and Moench most of the time as well.
God I wish someone besides Abnett would bring Ship back. It baffles me that no one has bothered to do it because she's exactly the kind of weird that's par for the course for the Guardians and they haven't had a home base since Knowhere.
Gamora was a bitch during Duggan's run especially towards Peter.
The only thing Cates has been doing right so far is have Peter be angry with her, especially since previous writers always had him excuse her shit or let it slip.
That would be great. I hope Cates keeps to his OC pets and leaves good characters like Darkhawk or Nova to Bowers, Sims and Landy. Ewing would do AMAZING on Cosmic again since he clearly has a good grip on that, judging by Ultimates and Rocket... But I think he's way too focused on Immortal Hulk now, which is good and bad at the same time because the series is great, but his talents could be used in other things too.
Yeah Gamora is pretty damaged and sometimes gets hung up on people (see Adam) and she really doesn't have many friends.I can see her wanting Rich (she still wanted him when they were under the Phalanx's control) out of a sense of keeping someone close to her but at the same time she has her pride so I wouldn't exactly see her begging him either.
But Rich I think should be at a point were he feels nothing but some fondness and friendship for her. He'll help her and care for her but I don't think he can be in a romantic relationship, let alone think about forming a family with her. Gamora betrayed his trust and flat out told him not to trust her, so he might be friends with her but it shouldn't go above that anymore.
He kind of killed Darkhawk and I said kind of because he had him, Cosmo, and a bunch of other heroes get sucked into a black hole and StarFox and fucking Wraith were saved but StarFox has his face messed up and he's paralyzed.
That said I think Duggan is using Darkhawk in his Wolverine and the Infinity Watch mini since the cover has a Raptor with a red crystal on their chest. But it might be a random Ratpor, at least it's not Talonar since Robbie has a fluffy coat (although he's most likely going to appear in that comic).
>bottom half of his body isn't a rocket
shit page.
>He kind of killed Darkhawk and I said kind of because he had him, Cosmo, and a bunch of other heroes get sucked into a black hole and StarFox and fucking Wraith were saved but StarFox has his face messed up and he's paralyzed.
He also had Quasar come out of retirement in full suit and all, just to kill him there and then. He hasn't appeared anywhere yet and I noticed every time a fan asks him about Wendell on Twitter, he doesn't even acknowledge it.
Quasar could've moped the floor with the Black Order there, and if he didn't, he would've still came out of the black hole willy-nilly.
I honestly would have accepted a story with Rich sacrificing himself to save Peter and Drax because it's not against his character and he does have a tendency of being impulsive when he does things.
But holy shit this was such a fucking shit show, I would have rather Bendis never had explained what happened in the Cancerverse and then have a better writer give that explanation.
I wouldn't be surprised if he just asked Shaw to draw random cosmic heroes to get offed and Shaw picking Quasar and others just because he didn't know who to draw.
People forget Rich was called the human Rocket or that he was like cannonball except he could control gravity and had super speed. It's just flying and throwing energy beams nowadays.
It seems very likely, and it's just so Cates would have his mass slaughter while baiting people into reading the book by saying it would feature all prominent Cosmic heroes in one place.
Either way I suppose the only people who survive are those who miraculously reappear, since there was no indication that Kallark survived either from this ambush, aside from him appearing in the cover of the next issue.
>and it's just so Cates would have his mass slaughter
I know he gets a lot of shit for being edgy, but I do hope he kills off the new Novas very quickly. I can't think of anyone who actually wants them around.
>I can't think of anyone who actually wants them around.
He does. Only so he can have Peter call them "pigs" all day despite having joined the Novas a run ago.
So, what was the point of that cover with most cosmic characters if he killed most of them?
lol Cates doesn't know what heat death means
That's funny
That was it, that was literally the point, kill them off in the Sanctuary meeting and bait readers into thinking they were gonna have a part. First time seeing the Starjammers in YEARS and he only keeps them in the background during the ambush.
BTW just noticed, this picture has Ronan in it, but he was killed in Death of the Inhumans and he wasn't in the meeting, so clearly Shaw was asked to just draw whatever Cosmic characters in total disregard of current status.
Plus the Guardians 3000 weren't in that meeting.
shame that cates forgot that several of those heroes could easily survive a white hole. but that's continuity and who cares about that?
>there was no indication that Kallark survived either from this ambush, aside from him appearing in the cover of the next issue.
He shows up towards the end of issue #2 and I think it was him and the Shi'ar that saved Eros and Wraith (and whoever was with them that shows up for the kill Gamora scene other than Eros of course).
I don't know why Duggan even made them in the first place. The Nova corps in the MCU were also ineffectual (and lets face it they were always cannon fodder even in the comics) but you at least had scenes were they sacrificed themselves fighting the enemy and went all out doing their job.
Duggan's Nu Novas are not just useless cannon foder but they act like mall cops who don't get payed enough and are so shit at their job that the Guardians had to come in and teach them how to actually guard the galaxy. So shit that Rocket was rising up in their own ranks. So shit the Guardians had to clean up their Raptor infiltration. Even Rich himself doesn't seem to respect them that much.
Also they should fucking just give the Nova corps a rest, hell they were more of a military than space cops and Marvel slowly started making them into a copy of GL.
>Plus the Guardians 3000 weren't in that meeting.
Major Victory was in the meeting but yeah I don't recall the other original Guardians being there.
>Also they should fucking just give the Nova corps a rest
I think everyone can agree that Rich should be the only one.
The Nova Corps as space cops make no sense because Marvel cosmic is way more fragmented than DC cosmic and they're not led by anyone with the level of authority the Guardians of the Universe have. All of these different alien cultures have no reason to care about a Nova corpsman trying to enforce any kind or arbitrary law on their planet/dominion.
*kind of
Exactly, Xandar was just another planet with its own military and the Novas were their soldiers. Rich only gets the powers by pure happenstance and because Dey followed Zorr to earth.
But they made them more like GLS in the end of the Starlost saga and Giffen reinforced the whole thing in Annihilation Prologue making them more GL like and having them get called "Nova corps" then Loeb fucked it up even more with the whole getting their powers from the helmet now everyone thinks that's how Novas always were and I can't blame them for the GL comparison. Marvel slowly made Nova into a GL when originally it only had the "getting powers from a dying alien in common"
>Loeb fucked it up even more with the whole getting their powers from the helmet now everyone thinks that's how Novas always were and I can't blame them for the GL comparison.
I know it seems autistic to get upset over it, but I really fucking hate that. Seems like nobody at Marvel bothered to learn the difference between Rich and Sam and made them the same
There was a part in the Falle Guardian one-shot that showed Groot and Star-Lord camping with Adam. Maybe it's implied that he told them at that point?
I have no explanation for Rich. It's gonna have to be some twist that he actually has no clue.
The corps isn't a bad idea really. Governments would send people to join up and when shit happens, they could request aid from Xandar. Just remove the role as jailers, make them act only when requested to act and they pretty much become UN peacekeepers/relief workers.
>The corps isn't a bad idea really. Governments would send people to join up and when shit happens, they could request aid from Xandar.
They're basically the Intergalactic Red Cross, they don't act on behalf of any government/race/empire, they're conformed by members of all cultures and species in the galaxy(es), and they act whenever necessary. Unfortunately since Xandar's fall, they've been scrambling for order and no one has bothered to settle them down properly and work from within.
For this to happen I really think a Nova Corps book should exist, which would be like Tales of the Green Lantern Corps but fuck it, they compare it to the Novas already. I just think they need to have a solid lore again instead of getting destroyed and reassembled every time a hack writer gets their hands on them.
On paper, that would be a good idea. In practice, Marvel's current writers would likely fuck it up by shoving it into an event or ignoring any semblance of continuity while promoting OCs from earth who happen to be gay or some minority. That said, it would be a really good vehicle to delve into more exploration based sci-fi stories. Have them meet new aliens, introduce/test new tech, explore strange areas in space, do ship to ship battles instead of just superhero fist fights etc.
Maybe it could be that Nebula fucks up and Rich doesn't really know and he just has Nebula, Starfox, et all torture him for free.Star-Lord founds out about it and that's what gets him involved.
I can see Cates pulling that crap, he did say he wanted to make his GotG run brutal and I know I am going to be pissed when that happens. Ugghh I rather just have a short Nova mini than see Cates fuck up Rich.
They never really had solid lore to begin with
That's why it would have to be just a mini, like the many others Marvel has been releasing lately. No need for an ongoing where things can go wrong, and it would be rather focused on rebuilding Xandar and have the Nova Corps go on regular days fixing shit like Morrison's Green Lantern I know it's bullshit because it's gotten quite esoteric but humor me here
At worst, what could happen is that other writers would ignore the mini. At best, we finally have all these background characters finally shine and do something on their own, while teaching new readers about the Nova rankings again etc.
This, their lore was just that they got fucked up which leads Dey to follow Zorr to Earth in revenge. And even then the only thing other writers did was kill them off, bring them back, then kill them off again.
Duggan shouldn't have brought them back again, especially since he gave them the helmet with powers shit and you now have random people like Rocket and that one bitch that switches places with Valkyries becoming Nova. Then there's nothing that really makes a character like Rich unique (especially since in the beginning he's suppose to be the only one with powers) once anyone can become Nova.
I honestly think your idea fits better with the Space Knights than Novas.
That's why I was so surprised about all the bitching regarding their portrayal in the MCU. Even in Annihilation which is what most of Yea Forums's cosmic fans are familiar with they just show up to get slaughtered
Uhhh when was the last time they were seen? I only remember them in Conquest.
>At worst, what could happen is that other writers would ignore the mini.
That's actually the base case. If the mini sucks but they want to keep it in continuity anyway, fans would wish for another purging of the Nova Corps.
Annihilators to my knowledge. Earthfall and Starlin's recent Thanos books if we wanna count just Ikon.
In a shitty Guardians Team-Up issue and then possibly in Venom: Space Knight.
But they weren't their usual ROM looking Space Knights.
Well because most Nova fans have only read Annihilation Prologue and onwards. Giffen depicted the Nova corps there as a more bureaucratic GL corps and when the Annihilation wave hits you even get a panel of Rich commenting how it's strange that they're going into military mode as if he hadn't been a soldier when he got involved with the Xandarians especially during the Skrull-Xandar war.
I mean I also thought Nova was just a GL copy but once you go back and you start looking at his history at how Wolfman came up with him and how the character started changing, you can see that writers slowly starting making him more into a GL copy. Starting with the Starlost Saga in New Warriors were Saal uses Rich to revive Worldmind and Adora proclaims that they will now become the Xandarian Starcorps and from then on she starts recruiting aliens and starts doing the Space cop thing.
>infinity stone
>not infinity gem
god dammit, is nothing sacred?
They changed into "Stones" after Secret Wars.
I just realized that outside of Starlost and a little of Annihilation that Rich has had basically no interaction with Firelord.
They explain why they did that, Secret Wars the gems become stones and only the soul gem was a gem because it was cut into a gem.
And might I add I still think it's synergy shit but at least it got some explanation.
Also the Cosmic Jeweler was set up, but never shown. Another one of Duggan's dropped storylines... In another timeline, we'd still be under Duggan's run at the moment, instead of getting it canceled for Infinity Wars.
Which is a shame because Firelord is probably one of the last Xandarians and former Nova soldier alongside Saal (and possibly that one Xandarian colony that managed to escape Nebula and is now lost and they never bothered to resolve that plot).
Also Garthan Saal, what a loose end.
I really hope the Cosmic Jeweler and some other plot points get resolved in Wolverine Infinity Watch. I just want that book to be "Hey it's me Gerry, here's what I would've done on GotG"
Also fuck Garthan Saal before he died he recognized Rich as being worthy of being Nova and ensured Xandar's safety in his hands...
How pissed would he be now that he came back post-Annihilation and most likely found his home gone.
What happened to Rich at that point?
All I remember is from the kid nova book, where Rich comes back, but he was infected with the cancerverse.
Yeah, same here, it actually seems like the proper place to address that. Shame that it's going to be a mini but hopefully it means there's something else in the horizon still unannounced that broadens the Cosmic horizon beyond whatever Cates is trying to do.
Nova mini by Landy where Rich fixes everything.
>Rich helps Firelord repair Air-Walker
>Rich gets Sam his dad's helmet back, and subsequently saves his dad
>Rich fight Sphinx again
>Rich helps Speedball through that plot point that got dropped from the newest New Warriors run
>Rich goes with Watersnake from the same NW run to reunite with Namorita.
>Rich saves and repairs Worldmind on a centralized world that can give order to the Nova Corps.
>Rich adopts Cosmo
Fused with cosmic cube and killed himself to open a portal that would send Peter and Drax back to 616, but also sent Thanos back too.
The whole thing is bullshit because if you read Thanos Imperative, the cancerverse is going to cease to exist in less than a minute. The only goal is to make sure Thanos is there when it happens. Then it turns out nothing they accomplished mattered. Everyone in the Cancerverse was fine after being wiped out by Death, and Quill and Rich are ready to curl up in the fetal position because they're scared.
There's a whole lot of other errors I could get into, but just know that its fucking retarded
So basically Bendis did not read the issue, just got stuck with the "they are trapped in another universe" sypnosis, and went on to drive his bullshit train from that.
Pretty much, but he also makes it a point to shit hate all over Rich because Rich's fan had the audacity to ask why he didn't come back with the rest.
Is the Cosmic Jeweler the guy who makes all the generic skull belts, collared capes, and bracers that all of Starlin's characters wear?
I mean, it has to be, look at all this bling...
Oh this reminds me
>yfw clearly Cates stole the whole concept behind Cosmic Ghost Rider's mini from the Infinity Siblings/Conflict plot
Duh, that's why Starlin got pissed at Marvel and is leaving for the umpteenth time. Speaking of which is that last book out yet?
Not yet and it hasn't appeared in the solicitations yet. I'm guessing it will come out on October/November, and since we still don't have any listings that far out, we'll have to wait a little while longer. But it should be coming, the editors were working on it.
Looking forward to it. Interested to see how much of a final book it really is. Starlin and Davis are both getting up there.
That sounds too good to be true but I would fricking buy it.
Also probably add Diamondhead there in some form, he was a thugish and pretty brutal villain in the early Nova run who got ignored and thrown aside as a joke once Rich went cosmic. Even DnA treated him like he was nothing. But hell Diamondhead was a stone cold motherfucker (albeit with a dumb origin that made him hilariously evil) with probably the biggest hate boner for Richard Rider that has potential to be Manta levels of hate if it gets further explored especially since he has done so much shit that's solely fueled by his hatred for Rich. He's also a war criminal who betrayed the Xandarians to the Skrulls and caused the death of Crimebuster as well as other Novas. Then he infected a bunch of people with a flesh melting bacteria which forced Rich to mercy kill them all so they wouldn't suffer. In Nova vol. 2 during the whole Deathstorm thing there's an issue were Rich attacks him because he wants justice for Diamondhead's crimes and Diamondhead just laughs at him and tells him no one on Earth would care about what happened in Xandar and that he had no proof of it. But after Nova vol. 3 he pretty much stopped being that relevant.
I think Loveness said in an interview that he wanted to have him in his Nova run and give him a cosmic power up so he can be a threat to Rich again. I wouldn't mind it honestly especially since Rich needs all the villains he can get. The guy is also made of diamond and can regenerate like Wolverine so he has potential to be a threat again under the right writer.
I don't think it was Cates who stole it because he said Brevoort was the one who asked him to do a Thanos story. At that point Starlin had already finished his script and Brevoort was one of the people who saw it so I am pretty sure Brevoort was the one who gave Cates the idea and general plot then Starlin got wind of it and got pissed, especially since Brevoort was already doing shit to piss him off.
Also Starlin said he was fine with Cates and said that his beef was with Brevoort and wouldn't return to Marvel if he had to work with Brevoort so clearly Brevoort is the one that's the problem.
>Rich adopts Cosmo
I think he respects him too much to make him his pet but he's still a dog so Rich would still scratch his ear and brings him chew toys like he always does.
Also Rich and Cosmo are too fricking pure and Cosmo debuted in Nova so he would be perfect for a Nova comic. If for whatever reason they have a Nova movie I hope Cosmo has an important role there especially since James Gunn dind't want to use him in any capacity other than cameos.
No, it's just that Cates independently came up with a story that had a few similarities to the story that Starlin was telling. The reason Starlin quit isn't that they "stole his idea," it's that Brevoort was the editor on both books so he should have told Cates no instead of approving it knowing full well that it was really similar to Starlin's.
And even then, that's not what Starlin quit over. He quit over the fact that Brevoort said that he wasn't aware of the similarities, which means that he's either a liar or an idiot and Starlin had no interest in working for either.
Cosmo has patrician taste.
Why is Brevoort so fucking shit? Why do they still keep him? I've seen him at cons and he comes off as a joyless cunt on a fedora and he fucking sneers at random people.
Not to mention that weird ass tweet where he threatens to go postal on a train just because some kids were being loud on a train while discussing Star Wars. Like I get the feeling but you don't tweet about that shit, it makes you look crazy.
>No, it's just that Cates independently came up with a story that had a few similarities to the story that Starlin was telling.
See, you say that, but the timeline of events and the fact that Davis and Starlin had been working on this for longer, while Cates wrote not only the Thanos Wins arc but Cosmic Ghost Rider, and that BOTH "coincidentally" have shared similarities with both Starlin OGNs does raise some questions.
How come Infinity Siblings dealt specifically with time traveling and a Thanos coaching another while ultimately merging with Death (Thanos Wins), and then Infinity Conflict had Thanos starts merging with a lot of Abstracts and one of the solutions Starfox comes up with is to kill baby Thanos in the cradle (Cosmic Ghost Rider), and both stories were released almost at the same time? And also you forget that Starlin complained that he, as Thanos' creator, wasn't called to actually write the 616 arc but they hired Cates instead? He mentions this in his FB post.
Sure, maybe Cates didn't explicitly "steal" the story, but I don't believe for a second that Brevoort's fault was that he neglected to mention it, because Cates allegedly pitched this story to Jordan White and White, as a complete yes man, told him it was fine to go ahead. At some point Brevoort must have hinted a story of this sort and allowed Cates to fill the blanks, because it's way too much coincidence that these two are so similar. I can believe one or the other, but TWO?
>>Rich gets Sam his dad's helmet back, and subsequently saves his dad
Too happy. Have them learn how he died, recover the dad's corpse and give him a proper burial.
>Rich goes with Watersnake from the same NW run to reunite with Namorita.
Honestly, I'd accept any love interest as long as they make sure she got tits and ass.
>Rich saves and repairs Worldmind on a centralized world that can give order to the Nova Corps.
I'd rather it be retconned to the corrupted Worldmind is the one native to the Cancerverse and the real Worldmind was simply shut down due to all the Nova Force it had being cut off after Rich was trapped in the Cancerverse.
>adopts Cosmo
Maybe if they don't do bring back Worldmind. Cosmo would make a great companion for him to team up with.
So does this series feature Darkhawk or not? I thought Cates said he’d be on the team, but he got sucked into that cosmic anus in the first issue. He’s the only reason I’m buying this book.
>but he got sucked into that cosmic anus in the first issue
Well so far he hasn't made an appearance, I mean no one expected Rich to appear at the end of issue 2 since the solicits make no mention of him and the covers don't have him so who knows.
You probably have a better chance of seeing him in Wolverine and the Infinity Watch since that will deal with the Raptors but even then...
>marvel.fandom.com
I mean the whole thing sucks because they were pushing him with him with the #50 comic and the Infinity Countdown tie-in and then there was that Sleepwalker story. But afterwards it's like they forgot about him.
The Jesse Alexander shit should be concluded ASAP it's annoying as fuck
I hate that they did the whole blacked out cover and then slowly revealed members only for Cates to say "Lol not all of these guys are going to be memebers" then why the fuck do you have them there?!
Death of the inhumans has a lot in common with black bolt and royals despite ignoring everything that happened in them.
>villian takes BB's voice away
>BB imprisoned
>final attack to save the day causes BB to lose his voice
from royals
>story is a the telling of a prophecy
>inhumans and kree are the same
>villain wants to modify inhumans bolster their ranks
>universal inhumans get attacked
It was basically 3 issues of Bendis just relentlessly shitting on DnA, DnA fans, and everyone who wanted to know how Quill returned and what happened to Rich. Nothing made any goddamn sense, and he was on a retcon spree, changing shit right down to the goddamn physics of Cancer-verse.
Duggan DID end it and then the next writer was like "lolnope it was just a clone your real dad is still out there somewhere! :^)" I mean what a fucking slap in the face to both your predecessor and the reader.
BENDIS!
>from royals
>>story is a the telling of a prophecy
>>inhumans and kree are the same
This is a tad reductionist though, Ewing didn't mean to imply they were the same, just that they had similar origins, as in "someone made us", like Prometheus.
And I could sort of see what you mean regarding Black Bolt, EXCEPT in DOTI he randomly gets his powers back from the shitty whisper he had after getting his throat lacerated (completely unexplained as to why he still could use his voice after that) to the full blown scream he used at the end. Damn you for reminding me of this gaping inconsistency.
>then why the fuck do you have them there?!
Again, to trick people into read it and get them hyped over nothing. Why do you think he kept throwing covers and shit for weeks and letting people "figure out" the team just so he could have his own?
In the end he's just gonna use his pet characters, I doubt Richard Rider is gonna be more than just a cameo because in the cover solicits for #4 or #5 you can see the assembled GOTG team and it's still the same that reunited at the end of #1.
His voice didn't come back he had "one good scream" left according to karnak before it went away for good. Because for some reason slitting his throat didn't take his voice it just gave him a limited number of times he could use it.
Bendis?
I forgot about that, but somehow I didn't think it was literal.
Then again, Cates and subtlety don't mix.
Didn't he do the same thing with Scarlet Witch?
What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I'll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Cleveland Institute of Art, and I've been involved in numerous secret projects at Marvel Studios, and I have over 300 award-winning comics. I am trained in comic writing and I'm the top writer in the entire US comic industry. You are nothing to me but just another fanboy. I will blow you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of friends across the industry and your critique is being erased right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your opinion. You're fucking dead, kid. I can be at any publisher, anytime, and I can entertain you in over seven hundred ways, and that's just with my dialogue. Not only am I extensively trained in dialogue writing, but I have access to the entire backlog of Marvel Comics and I will ignore it to its full extent to wipe your miserable fixation with continuity off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little "clever" comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn't, you didn't, and now you're paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit Eisner-award winning writing all over you and you will drown in it. You're fucking dead, kiddo.
