Eeh, it's not, I have a high tolerance for animation (e.g. I love TTGo!) and I find it grating

it's kinda the opposite for me; I find TTGo! mind numbing but love Unikitty.
How many episodes did you watch? Because imo it picks up very quickly; after a few eps I kinda just fell in love with the characters and it was fun the whole way through.
I will admit though that for all these fast-paced comedy shows, they're not for everyone. Everyone has their own tastes, and when it comes to shows like this, it's really hard to hit for one to hit that balance of appealing to many different types of people.

I've seen around 30 episodes of S1, there were some good moments but overall it felt irritating with sensory overload (although it's mostly Tara's voice I find annoying, her Raven voice is much more subdued).

The characters felt like arbitrary archetypes in an arbitrary world, whereas the appeal of TTGo to me is the perversion of what's supposed to be a serious setting. The same things I dislike about Unikitty I also dislike in TTGo, except TTGo also has some elements I do enjoy.

If anyone knows how to rip stuff from iTunes, the episodes are on iTunes

I don't get it. Why rotate through 3 voice actresses instead of having 1 dedicated voice actress for Unikitty? I mean, I'd understand if in the movie she was played by a Hollywood celebrity who was too expensive to get back for the games and show, but she's not.

Because Canada bans cartoons without canadian voice actors and Tara strong is the cheapest (dual citizen) canadian actor on the market. So they don't have to go through the trouble of hiring foreigners or placing a studio in canada. As for why Tara couldn’t be doctor fox instead? Lack of actual range.

Alison, being a non-VA actor, is too expensive for smaller budget stuff like games (particularly when DiCicco is already doing other major roles in the game too). As for the cartoon, there was no need to stick with the movie voice at all, and I guess CN just felt Tara Strong would do a better job.

The world is loose enough that anything can happen but constrained enough that everything fits.

Plus the characters are great and really well-defined, none of them are grating or take up so much screentime that they get boring.

I like Unikitty but none of the other characters really do anything for me.

Because it's sincere. Its only goal is to be a nonstop joke machine for 11 minutes, with characters that have legitimately cute designs and honestly charming personalities. Nothing was sacrificed to bring us this show, because Lego Movie already set the kid-friendly hyper tone for it. Also it's actually fucking funny.

Killing the protagonist in season finale wasn't the smartest move.

...I actually want to get a plush like that. I wonder how much it would cost...
