If you could hire someone (or take their skill) to do a particular thing in your comic, who and what would it be? Alt Q: Summarize your plot, 30 words or less
*Please add your comic name/link to your first image post
If anyone liked answering any particular questions or suggestions for future Qs, give me a heads up so I can make similar questions in the future. Or, if you just liked having a lot of questions in general like the last thread did, I think I can swing that for the future, too.
I won't know unless you tell me
Oliver Reed
I like your questions I just try not to constantly yammer about my shit since that's never received well. and there's a lot to go on and on about.

Hi, I'm going to shill my Kickstarter again. It's for a senior capstone and it's called Rikomenci. It has two kids and a robot go through a post-post-apoc wilderness. You don't need to donate but I'd appreciate the support. kickstarter.com/projects/805169961/rikomenci pls no bully.
>senior capstone a wha? This art looks nice. I'm not about to pay for comics, but if your kickstarter fails and you put it up online free, let us know. i'll read it.

Guys, how animation in Carmen was made? Is it hand-drawn animation that lacks fps or is it something like rigged 2d models? Are there any good tips or tutorials on how to make such animation with rigged models? I was trying to make it with blender, but simply rigging and transforming character is nowhere that smooth. Feels like they have full character's turnaround from any possible angle done first and than just ctrl-c ctrl-v pre-made character pose.
Looks like a mix of rigged animation and drawn keys. They sure cut a lot on inbetweening.
Aaron Hall
Shit why can't I write plot I just procrastinate really badly. If I just want to draw I can draw 10 hours straight
Landon Thompson
then do it. Marvel method. draw and draw and write words in later.
Levi Wright
Dirty secret: you don't need to write things down for plot.
All you need is a synopsis. What I'm doing (since I also can't write for shit) is a visual script. Pic related It's basically an animatic/storyboard in a comic format. I even put the text I want on the side of it instead of in the bubbles. If you don't worry about layouts right away then you can focus on what the characters are doing.
It's probably toon boom, I don't know why you'd even try blender to do that.
Wyatt Ross
For the general plot I write, then I make storyboards when I have everything set up. I feel more clear headed when I just write what happens, I think about the layouts separately since I have so many difficulties with camera shots.
Matthew Gomez
I miss Anterra Chronicles
Julian Sullivan
I'll pop my latest two pages up for bump and vanity purposes.
a man has to go stop the local dragon from destroying his village in exchange for not annihilating everyone, he becomes a lackey to do all his bidding, it starts small with just robbing banks, raiding other farms, but the dragon quickly realizes the man has a super power: determination and perseverance so he makes the assignments harder and more violent, such as destroying anti dragon city defenses and bombing capitals the protag doesnt really want to hurt anyone, but he has to since he very much wants his family, friends, and the village to live
there should be some serious weight to his actions though, the villager needs to feel every death and activity, he should be noticing that hes turning into a monster
most of the chapters content would be these missions, but on the downtime it would be him interacting with the people in his village, the dragon, and the secondary protagonist, a dragon hunter he was sent to kill the dragon the main protag is helping, later on he becomes a recurring obstacle to the main protag, with the hunter trying to thwart the dragons plans
thats p much it, if its too cliche and overdone ill just drop it right now
I live in fear that one of my more embarrassing threads is going to get me to post in this one by mistake, with trip on.
Sebastian Wilson
>If you could hire someone (or take their skill) to do a particular thing in your comic, who and what would it be?
a writer and maybe some artist. i'll just be the ideas guy who does character design.
>Alt Q: Summarize your plot, 30 words or less
team of teenage monsters (and an adult) going around solving mysteries and fighting monsters. The group live a double life as normal teens dealing with teenager shit. But once the sun sets on the horizon, the fangs come out. (The team’s main gimmick is that they’re based on universal horror monsters apart from hellfyre and yurei.)
I like it the basic idea is not so much cliché as 'has been done' I mean, that's the Silver Surfer's backstory but it's never been done with dragons, and it'd be a really fun variation on the definitely-cliché "have to keep sacrificing people to the dragon" idea, which never made any fucking sense. I definitely like this idea, it leads to good conflicts.
Blake Russell
Oh, I see. Welp I'm used to rigging 3d models in blender so 2d goes same way and also they added some 2d animation tools. It's gonna be a waste of time trying to learn some other soft's layout. And yeah, toonboon, AE, blender, opentoonz and even krita they all are alike in terms of using layers and frames. I kinda need tutorials on how to work with 2d rigs to make animation smooth 2.5d-looking like Carmen or Tangled series
Jaxon Morris
btw I was the one who did the fish girl thingy so yes she is part of the team...and based on the creature of the black lagoon.
up next is gonna be that ghost girl. the human or alive form was posted way back in one of the threads I think.
Toon Boom is the industry standard, it'd be worth learning more then Blender. It's fine if you're already used to one software program, but you'll have to deal with a change if you don't want to be limited by Blender's capabilities and want it more like Carmen. It is also the program that Mercury Filmworks uses to make the Tangled series. >mercuryfilmworks.bamboohr.com/jobs/view.php?id=5 >Working knowledge of Toon Boom Harmony is essential.
James Morgan
three of the girls are monster girls, the rest are mostly either bara, pretty boys, or average. not to worry, when i think of anything worth drawing there'll be more.
the doll person that comes later on has no gender so it could be a girl or boy.

Finally finished the art on this page, now onto my least favorite part, the speech bubbles
Sorry to bring this up again but would it be too repetitive to have a dream sequence on the third page after the last panel on the second page? Also, the same question as last time, does it move along too quickly?
forgot to add that given my weeb roots, the author of totsukuni no shoujo was a huge inspiration and my first drawings were a shitty attempt at emulating him.
I don't have one because i have shitty memory (it's joe mad)
>Why did you decide to do this?
i want internet senpai to notice me...
Robert Collins
Houseki no kuni inspired me the most to make my comic
I don't know, the way that it's drawn just inspires me in a way other manga and webcomics just haven't yet. I got off my ass for the first time in my life and started on my own story solely because hnk's art and story seemed to speak to me so much
I have 21 pages done, and I'm hoping to have the first chapter done soon-ish. Never done this before so it's been a bit of a struggle
My comic is taking forever to make but I wanna answer these anyway
>What inspired you the most to make a comic?
Music is a big factor, as it helps create new ideas and emotionally "charge" them. I think very visually when it comes to music. Also another big factor is the feeling I'd get when I binge read a manga or comic I really like then realize I got to the end/latest chapter and now feel a bit shitty. I kinda wanna make a comic so good that it makes people feel like that too.
>Who are your favorite artists?
Hirohiko Araki. I love that guy. He makes amazing art and has an incredibly successful manga series that's just so inspirational.
>Why did you decide to do this?
I want to make my comic because it has cute monster girls in it and hopefully inspire other people to make comics, and also, I hope it could make enough money for me to fund more of my future projects.
James Sanchez
thats really good, post alot about your comic once its uploaded so i can follow it
Colton Foster
Are there any good resources to make something more emotional? I don't want a Loss to happen with my comic.
Jacob Watson
Finished this page!
Now to awnser all the stuff from the last thread because I didn’t make it in time.
>What are Yea Forums's biggest fears when creating a webcomic? I think this has stayed the same since I started which was dying before getting the comic done.
>What was the first webcomic that introduced you to the world of webcomics? Penny arcade, it’s a shame how far it has fallen from grace.
>How did those earlier works inspire you? Uh… I guess it helped me set up the basic relationship towards jack and SD
>If you could give one piece of advice based on what you learned, what would that be? I’d tell myself to stop using the adventure time style sooner and start studying craig mckracken.
>What's something you wish you were told before you started? That everything will work out, it’ll just take a while.
>What were the worst ideas you had? Best? Several jokes involving angel and clowns… best? I dunno I think every idea I have at the moment is my best idea, why would I put it in the comic otherwise?
How long is your comic planned to be? So far I have outlined the plot to chapter 41, I have something special planned for chapter 53, and beyond that? Who knows.
>How long have you been working it? About 5 and a half years
>What is your 5 year plan? Work on it for 5 more years
>Would you complete your comic, even if you never gained a large readership? As long as there are some dedicated fans, then I’ll keep on doing it. There has never been a day where I’ve gotten 0 views, and that’s enough to inspire me, hopefully I can inspire them too.

Aiden Diaz
im writing a comic script thats strictly 9 panel. no splash pages or anything, theres some action scenes where 2 characters are fighting, should i make those panels where there is fighting to be bigger, or would having a fight scene within one panel work?
Hudson Ortiz
maybe do they fight and kill each other or do they just sit around being poorly drawn
Adrian Jones
What ever happened to the story user who did this?
Some progress on page 15. Really happy how Hancocks are turning out.
>If you could hire someone (or take their skill) to do a particular thing in your comic, who and what would it be? I want to be able to shade clothes like Murata. it would really help here :~:
This has been bothering me for a while: in the middle panel, does that impact effect translate well enough? Feels bare bones, but restraint has done me good before. I can't help but feel I'm missing on the choicest impact effects to really sell the exaggerated gestures.
No. This is my maiden voyage.
>If you could hire someone (or take their skill) to do a particular thing in your comic, who and what would it be?
If I weren't borderline monomaniacal, i'd have someone else color/greyscale things for me. But I want to learn this stuff too much.
>Summarize your plot, 30 words or less Young, troubled king tries to stop decline of Early Modern Empire with state sponsored, propagandized spec ops team. He pulls talent from lawmen and criminals. The situation degenerates.
From all the comics I've reviewed, the best advice I have is to look at anime/manga and do the exact opposite. Slow your roll, exercise restraint, and P A C E yourself. Also, the more emotionally charged you want a scene to be, the more economical you have to be with dialogue.
little late huh? glad you're thinking about doing more of these, though. always loved this comic just get a normal comic host like comicfury or smackjeeves
Lucas Cooper
It get's so much worse/better.
Isaac Williams
I heard about it but never thought it would affect my stuff. Also, I switched devices and kinda lost my logins and bookmarks for a while.
I'm gonna continue it one of these weeks, I guess. I don't like leaving the story hanging like that. But I'll probably finish "episodes" and then post them before going into hiatus again.
Thanks for liking my silly comic.
Comicfury looks like it could work. I'm gonna look into it.
Elijah Roberts
Its not really an anime-inspired comic until someone says "It cant be helped".
Landon Hernandez
I'll never forgive you
Blake Cox
Also, I wrote a small piece on ... things. pls no bully
It's alright, I'll forget it soon and be back to just seeing a cute cat and fox without politics behind it.
Liam Carter
I'm not a big fan of anything "politics", though. For me it's just a storytelling choice. I'm mainly into experimental literature, so I naturally reject any conventional storytelling devices, especially if it makes sense for the story I want to tell.
Mason Gomez
Well good. The best part of this comic is how experimental it is.
Josiah Scott
Alt Q: Summarize your plot, 30 words or less A group of teenagers fight monsters with magic neon-colored abilities. Heavily anime-inspired.
Damn, I really need to work on those colors next time I make a panel in MS Paint. On my new laptop I can barely read that.
Nathaniel Sullivan
might as well alter the cat to be less Pusheen-colored while you're at it. i do like how dusty the fox is though, you dont get dustyfoxes very often in art, you always get the bright carrot orange ones.
Easton Wright
Yeah, I'm gonna redesign the characters a bit. I'm so bad at drawing the fox it's basically its own thing but the cat will probably look more like the cat from the ink panels next time.
Jaxon Wood
Do you have any design documents? I might be interested I'm this user if you're wondering
Andrew Jenkins
i do not, i literally just thought of that idea. i have an idea of a howard hughes like character who has to wear a suit of armor because he is terrified of the outside world outside of his mansion and/or some horrible trauma happened to him. im thinking he knows whats right, and still does whats right, even though hes terrified. he does small feats of heroicism; i.e getting a cat out of a tree, or saving a person from walking into oncoming traffic, or fighting a small time mugger.
the question would be why does iron man wear a suit of armor in the first place? id like to explore that with an analogue of that character.
Evan Morgan
I really like the colors and the thick outline around her really makes the art pop out.
Camden Perez
How do you find investors for your comic? I'm trying to monetize mine as a startup and eventually get on the stock market.
John Thompson
that's a neat idea. It's funny how, from a superhero point of view, a guy in armor is way more protected and concealed than average, but from a realistic warfare pov, being inside a VEHICLE puts the operator a lot further from the danger zone (unless you're in star trek and your consoles explode because you use plasma to power the little light-on-dark touchscreen displays. those things need a lot of power!) so iron man comes off as this one-man army who's way more of a target and (sometimes) unable to eject and bail out. so if you're making this guy an extremely small-time local hero, that's really interesting.
Liam Gomez
I like the idea contact me on discord if you want to do anything with it Lemon man #0119

Landon Ramirez
yeah, im already thinking of writing a script about this character, if youd be interested in co writing/drawing this character id be delighted. ive written stuff before about my own OC and theres a ton of introspection and characters meeting with psychologists and therapists and stuff. im real big into why a hero does the things they do, and ive always been a fan of iron man, or at least the cinematic version of him. i also go back to silver age and golden age heroic actions in my stories too

nope, i'm not allowed in there.

Asher Allen
I'm told after I politely left, realizing I wasn't welcome, they did put up a ban. Just out of spite. Still waiting for the grudge to be over, since it sounds like the PC level has severely decreased over there, but no dice. apparently other people who make their own discords are told not to let me in as well, so i guess it's No Homers for now.
Isaiah Adams
who are you? i'd love to make a discord channel for all the people who weren't "cool" enough to hang out with the regular crowd
Nathaniel Martinez
we have one of those! You can join it if you want. discord.gg/WutcEx
Jayden Wright
is discord not anonymous?

well, you can make a new account and nobody would know it was you, but that somewhat defeats the purpose of making new friendships and exchanging ideas and notes on each others' work.
Aiden Cook
I'm not him, I just never used it before and I have no clue how it works or what it's for.
Owen Robinson
on discord you're known by a name and a four digit number code. You can also change the name for each channel you're in, the way you would in any chat program. Generally you have to be invited into a given server, which might itself be restricted in some more private ones.
Mason Lopez
I have an idea for a webcomic, but I’m probably not gonna do anything with it. It’s about a woman interning at a Umbrella Corp. type company. She has to help the researchers and monitor the experiments. And basically do odd jobs for the higher ups.
Isaiah Fisher
It would probably be a mix between humor and horror.
Alexander Phillips
mite b fun. i think I would eventually get tired of "oh something weird went on offscreen and now I have to deal with the clerical side of things" if that's most of what it did.
Gavin Sullivan
There's an SCP cartoon series out there. Your idea kinda reminds me of that.
Cooper Rodriguez
I'm sorry no one liked you for being a pedo sperg, ColdFusion. Maybe people would be more welcoming of you if you weren't hitting on little girls all the time.
Caleb Torres
It would start with her doing less dangerous tasks, basically as she gets more used to the job she ends up having more access to the experiments and researchers.
Jeremiah Cook
That's what came to mind to me too
Isaiah Stewart
I haven't hit on anyone since I was ten.. and that was enough to teach me it's not a good idea. nowadays I firmly feel hitting-on is the woman's job. But it sounds like you're suggesting a second try? I can certainly try to behave in a more pleasant fashion if given another chance.
Blake Powell
Another webcomic idea I had was an modern artifical intelligence stuck in geocities, and having to navigate it.
Daniel Perry
Okay that might be fun! Things that progress over time are always preferable.
Lincoln Barnes
Did it move to geocities.ws after geocities died?
Carter Powell
Well I’m thinking it would involve either, the ai is basically wading through old websites.
Leo Davis
as long as you did your homework and/or have a great memory, I would love this. anything that remembers the old internet tickles my inner old man who is just sitting around wishing things were like the old days.
Robert Fisher
Potential antagonists would involve old spamware and viruses.
Angel Cruz
that sounds sad

Finished this little sketch of Blake from Space Pack. I've got a good amount now of the story drawn out in a rough draft, but there's still a ways to go on it.
how do I get into the cool, nyamo discord? Also, we should stop bullying CF at this point, he's like 50 years old, it's elder abuse
Oliver Nelson
'preciate it, user. If Nessie (someone I offended pretty badly) can let things go and be cordial when talking to me on discord, I feel like forgiveness is on the table. I also apologize for being old.

Please answer this question for me: how did you manage to advertise this project without having any content online yet? I've been told multiple times on hyw that you either need to have several chapters of content and/or a highly sophisticated shilling system with twitter / tumblr / facebook etc. to make a kickstarter work. But you seem to be doing pretty well. Have I been tricked again?
Post some of your new comics and stuff here. I mean, you ARE working on something new right?
Hunter Wright
Is this the comic about a cat drifting around on a little boat, having mostly conversations? Everybody really liked that one. Please bring it back. Also, link.

really good looking stuff, but the way the rain is done kinda takes me out of it; It's so transparently brush strokes that it kinda detracts.
Ayden Powell
Alright /hyw/, draw yourselves in your comic style.

Carson Bennett
i did. and it sucked.
did you mean for us to post them?

Got the roughs and a little linework done for the next page. This one might take another week to finish. Partly because environment shots take 5 ever, partly because I'm moving to a new place next week.
>If you could hire someone (or take their skill) to do a particular thing in your comic, who and what would it be?
Probably have someone do the backgrounds. I find that the most tedious to work on. The only thing I kinda like doing is designing environments in establishing shots but I'm super slow at it.
>a writer I enjoy writing short stories and I don't mind making a short story for you, if you give me some key words so I can have something to work with.

im the iron man poster. my idea for that morphed into a story about analogues of the avengers dealing with a crisis set in the 60s the captain america character is diehard fascist and over throws the government by killing kennedy and lbj, and the heroes have to stop him from going full dictator.
I'm doing this for an assignment so I've recieved a lot of tips from my teacher about this kind of thing (she's done several successful Kickstarters herself) Here's some things she's said: >go for the bare minimum of money you need. A tiny successful Kickstarter is better than a huge unsuccessful one. >You're going to get most of your money from family/friends and their friends. Not randos on the internet. >having somewhere you can crosspost and onto is essential, having a fan following isn't Having a strong online presence is definitely the way to go, so I wouldn't say you're tricked. But if you can show enough of your work on the Kickstarter, then it's possible as long as you quickly start establishing a social media presence afterwords to provide updates on it. Personally, I've started to advertise on other social media platforms even though I don't really use them that often. But doing so establishes a bigger presence online overall.
I like the sound of this, was it inspired by medabots?
Luis Cooper
Yep, but the robots are powered by AI Chips instead of medals. Some robots are hand built by the owners, some are created by a company.
Austin Adams
Shoot, keep forgetting to attach my name to these post. Another thing, while the robots have personalities, they are Three Laws compliant, but there are people who build bots that aren't and this considered highly Illegal. Sometimes a robot's personality might cause some hiccup with the second law (such as complaints or banter between robot and creator).
i wish i could honestly tell you i liked reading this but it's just the story is just too cringe anime for me sorry
Ryan Ward
not... DIRECTLY comic-related. I'm studying art. right now learning how to do soft painting and better shading values but I owe a lot more people fanart.
Lincoln Walker
Yeah.
You can fix that issue in the future by having some framework to go off of for heads.
No reasonable person can be expected to tell the names Gwendolyn and Gwenevere apart. This comic is funny and expressive and funny
Anthony Morales
big fan of how to train your dragon, by any chance? move the eyes and the foreheads down (filling in the remaining space with more hair) and you'll have fine heads.

Chase Sanchez
those movies have atrocious facial proportions is all
Must take them fucking ages to write. >Demon courts are the worst torture because everyone has to talk incredibly slowly while the stenographer catches up
I always loved calling it "The Eldritch" or "Eldritch Arts" I love the word Eldritch.
Jonathan Watson
Yeah that's fine but when in doubt, look up words in other languages or word roots. 'magic' for example means 'the work of wise men' so you could go with a different word for wise man like 'silenus' (Reference to a wise mythological character) and call it Silenism, refer to magical things as "silenic" etc
Jose Sullivan
oh tits mcgee, I dig that. reminds me of a game i'm currently playing that's a good one too. technically that means 'elf-related' but those aint cutesy keebler-ass elves.
Mason Phillips
In my comic they call it techniques, and they even reference the spongebob episode where squidward wants to make a bubble and can't do it because he isn't performing the technique

>When you're re-reading a comic you like a lot and you realize he used something you once said in the comments, in the comic Feels good mon.
Luke Perry
I would like to do this, and add a hint to where it came from to not completely negate the fact I got influence from Yea Forums. I want to know how to walk the line of "a nod towards your fans" to "punching the 4th wall and the people viewing". Nothing worse than someone who is flat out pandering, but at the same time IF I do make it I want to establish my roots and where I came from.
Adrian Brooks
*Yea Forums although I do drawfag there, point stands.
Carson Walker
I think the line should be drawn somewhere between "using a fan nickname for a character as their in-story nickname" and "using a fan slang term that makes no sense to use, like simpsons having comic book guy refer to the simpsons as 'our favorite family'" like it was okay when he commented on them already having a horse, like he was just aware of that as neighborhood news, that was meta in a good way.. but parroting the fandom was stupid
Anthony Butler
I'm already shipping the protag with the dragon. Tell us more.
James Nguyen
I read it and I liked it! It's something we do subconsciously- personifying abstract cartoon animals in human gender terms even with no prompting. The choice of ambiguity often goes unnoticed or presumed wrong, surely the author defined a gender but just hasn't mentioned it. Pointing out the intentional vagueness tells the reader about their active role as a consumer of the media.
Don't let some Yea Forums idiot discourage you from talking about neat aspects of your writing. If the pronouns of a fictional cat gets them reeing that's their problem, not yours.
Christian Evans
i might quit webcomics and go into memes.
William Young
What's the difference?

William Fisher

If people interpret what you consider to be "basic courtesy" as "hitting on," maybe you should reevaluate your interactions with people. Autism can be a hell of a drug, and you've made it pretty clear you have a fair bit of social incompetence before.

Let me know if you see anything untoward, but I've never heard any complaints outside of here. I mostly use the old internet, where these things are not kept in any kind of convenient activity list, so you'd really have to watch like an absolute hawk to see comments made

im still working out the kinks for a prototype chapter since i keep reading it over what ive got and its just kinda cringy since they talk like 2 people roleplaying
the core concept shouldnt change though, i plan the dialogue to be kinda humorous considering the grim situation the protags in
a more focused narrative on talking it out with his village, 2nd protag and interspecies relations than moreso about the actual missions hes assigned (ill still draw those out)

>See Merryweatherey. >Think they're an artist of multiple webcomics + manga. >Find out that they aren't the artist. >They're actually one writer that moved/lives in Japan that works with and/or commissions multiple artists from Japan to draw their manga for them. >They earn $13,000+ a month on Patreon and they could easily earn more if they tried. >They have a handful of artists they usually work with but talk to 10 artists in total. >Initially jealous but also inspired but also really jealous. Seeing this guys "success" inspires me as an artist. He knows exactly what he's doing. This should also inspire you writers, you have a lot more to offer than you think. I hope the artists are getting their cut though.

Yep literally what I'm doing right now on Tales. Only difference is I didn't start up a patreon, I've had a few people tell me I should but I don't know what I'd do in terms of rewards.
I've found my writing ability has gotten amazing in the last few years, sometimes things can just develop.
Hunter Moore
he has so many artists that rewards aren't a problem. he has one artist that draws an nsfw comic for patrons too.
Benjamin King
How did you master it senpai?
Jaxon Walker
Yeah I still don't think I could do something like that since alot of the artists I got were for short stories. They are all option for repeated work but I'm just not sure about doing that. I don't know why I'd feel so weird about doing a patreon. Like maybe I'll experiment at first with kofi or something, I'm not really desperate for money at all.
Do you know more than one language to translate comics into Spanish, French, or some other language? Can you get 1,000 followers with ease on social media to help gain traction and have an okay personality that fans will like?

Wasn't that guy on here few years ago? At least someone named Merryweather. I just don't really care about his comics, looks like majority is just "what if x is a anime girl!" But yes, I am jelly of that Patreon cash.
Real quick roughs designs for a side character in my alien/werewolves comic. Just thought I'd share them here. She's a little odd being a kind of sporty goth, but the interest in sports gives her something in common with the main character in the story.
What does this have to do with becoming a better writer?
Xavier Sanders
paying a lot of attention to the way other people write, reading reviews of things that have been written so that you can hear what other people thought of the writing. sitting and thinking about those things.

Q1: I have been known to hire inkers from time to time. I had to stop because I lost my job, but since I picked up a new job I should be able to start hiring inkers again. Generally I just hire inkers for backgrounds and do the character inking myself.
Q2: A crew of aliens travel in a research ship between different colonies in a galaxy embroiled in a cold war.
I am really enjoying having Alix in the crew and was really happy with how she looks on the upcoming page. She is cute and she's got a bit of a Nico Robin vibe that I'm excited to explore in the story.
I am hoping to add another crew member in volume six, a character who is already fairly popular among my readers.

Does anyone have tips or font recommendations for doing bad handwriting? I was going to just do non-dominant hand, but it doesn't work too well being ambidextrous. And I tried making it purposefully look bad, but it just looked like those crappy dear-santa type letters people pretend kids made.
ever draw something with the paper angled away from you in a weird way, and the drawing looks fine until you position the paper properly and it all looks off? maybe something like that.

It was worth a try, but it wound up just being more slanted and taller than normal, even when I put the notebook on my chest to write. Probably too much muscle memory. Only way that got it worse was by writing backwards like a mirror, and that wound up being more a spacing issue.
I'm tempted to try with my feet, but I don't know how well that's going to work long term. And I don't want to take my socks off for this.
Parker Reed
>Good writing Nah. It's literally the most trite, bland, and boring weebshit you could come up with, and that's exactly why he's popular. He writes shit that sells.
Hudson Rodriguez
If you want to be like merryweather just follow these steps: >have colorful, cute anime art >make the comic format for mobiles >have very little dialogue (normies don't want to read, just look at the pretty pictures) >Make references to memes. That way you don't have to come up with jokes and you KNOW that people will find it funny. >also tiddies
doesnt your handwriting become shitty when you become impatient and start just doing only an approximation of the letter? like when you sign your signature
Owen Perez
I think I confused merry for someone else, or I just conflated several writers doing the same thing But I stand behind crawling city / my succubus girlfriend (the only ones i've read) having good writing and ideas. Of course they don't update anymore....

I linked someone's informal twitter poll about how people find webcomics a few threads ago, and the creator of the poll is back with some more stuff of interest:
short notes: >"comic portals" is #2 for finding comics, portals being both hosting and directories (#1 being word of mouth) >Line webtoon is ranked 1,181 GLOBALLY (according to alexa.com analytics) >it's one of the top visited websites in the world @ 10mill users daily ( = biggest audience of all hosts) (*note: numbers aren't clear whether it's just site visits or site + app visits) >has the highest retention rate regarding # pages visited, time on site, bounce rate per user. >Directories (webcomic list, top webcomics, etc) aren't nearly as high ranking globally and have the lowest retention rates >Low numbers from directories is still >0, so it might be worth it for some
All the information is informal, so nothing should be considered absolute fact and/or irrefutable and some of it is musings of the author, but it's a good starting point for people interested in having a bit more info about reader/creator connections and want to grow their audience quickly. Also it's nice having some kind of info to back up webcomic host and advertising stuff that's not assumptions or anecdotal.
Ayden Barnes
Whats a good way to keep your page numbers in check in you want a certain number of pages per chapter? I'd like to do something like american comics do where a book is like 20 to 24 pages I believe. I usually write prose or paragraphs which I eventually plan to turn into comic book pages, but I wonder what everyone else does?
Dominic Russell
The colours on this seem interesting, it looks a lot like Demon Eater Dark green always. That or the middle one with more red. Why ARE their eyes weird?
Jonathan Nelson
>Line webtoon is ranked 1,181 GLOBALLY ?
Jackson Scott
based on a friends recommendation i've decided to keep the eyes black unless she uses her powers in which case the eyes "activate" i'm leaning heavily towards purple right now
The eyes are weird because she's clairvoyant but only with other peoples futures
Do you mean get them to write with their non-dominant hand? That might work.
Outlines and scripts are best for that. From what I've seen, the biggest culprit of run on chapters is not having a script and trying to wing it resulting in chapters that drag on too long. If you outline first you can also make sure each chapter/arch hits all the plot points that you want without missing anything.
Hudson Richardson
What? Did I misquote something?
Oliver Gonzalez
well you didn't mention that. Purple is the de facto psychic color, so you chose right. Maybe just a little bluer purple, but then it wouldn't glow as well (Stupid light frequencies)
Alexander Jenkins
I used to wing everything I wrote, but luckily I've learned its best to have some kind of plan or outline before you start writing.
Ayden Campbell
here, just wondering which clothing design you guys think is most effective.
This guy is a tinker/scholar who's a little on the timid side. I'd probably add more details but I'm stuck on which overall shape is best.
Same. I was proud of what I made at the time, but looking back it was obviously meandering when it could have been so much better. It's difficult to start out and delays gratification, but it's like packing your lunch and setting out clothes the night before. Sure, it's extra work now but it means less work later and no stress.

How can I tell where the influences of an artist come from?
Owen Howard
I think that means "on the whole internet"
Gabriel White
Ask them about it! Or what their favorite things visually are.
Most if not all artists are passionate about their influences and will gladly tell you.
Christian Ramirez
Ples join our discord.
Camden King
I don't even know what t. stands for. I don't care either, I just use it intuitively. I remember when 'to be honest' used to be an ironic meme term and even bannable offense for a short period of time but then everyone just adapted it and now it's used, as they say, unironically. I have given up on discerning meme language from sincere language. I just use what works well. t. just works as a kind of quotation thingie? Of course I only have this dismissive attitude towards internet conversations, not actual writing.
Ethan Rodriguez
>Most if not all artists are passionate about their influences and will gladly tell you. Can an artist take influences and not know about it? How should I even ask them?
Bentley Powell
I absolutely will, once I have finished the first chapter. I'm actually looking forward to it a lot, the discord seems like so much fun. But I feel I need to create some content first. Thanks for your support Nyamo, here's a sneak peek just for you.
>Can an artist take influences and not know about it? Every artist will have absorbed the visual/storytelling language of others to any degree, whether they know it or not! Some are more obvious than others, of course. >How should I even ask them? Do it in a positive manner. Compliment their work in doing so. Feel free to take guesses if they haven't said anything so far. If you guess wrong then they can clarify (and also they're aware of an artist they might like. Everyone wins!) For instance, if I was going to ask about his influences, I'd mention something about their use of high-detail backgrounds, clean lines and surrealistic imagery, and then ask if work like Moebius is an influence. , if you want to play along feel free
Connor Johnson
Oh, ok. Yeah, I should have worded that differently so it'd be less confusing. It was a bit of a tangent, my bad The #1 vs #2 ranking was referring back to the original poll where those were the top two ways people found comics; full ranking: word of mouth>portals>ads>other. The Global ranking was how high webtoon (portal) ranked compared with all websites on the internet (not by country/continent/provider/etc). The actual tweet chain has more data on how webtoon compares with the other common hosts, too.
Exactly. You can guess, but you won't be accurate. What you know is not what others know so if you start guessing influences you might find they have never read or heard of what you think it relates too. Plus it's fun talking to creators. They are a very shy group who like to talk about their interests but don't get enough attention to do so.
>Can an artist take influences and not know about it? Yup. If an artist is exposed to something there's a chance they'll pick it up subconsciously. Just ask what their favorite things are, have a conversation. Comics, artists, movies, books, authors, music, whatever. Start by asking for recommendations if you want to dodge the question a bit. >Hey, artist. I really like your art and you seem like a cool dude. Your art reminds me of ___, do you have a favorite artist who does ___, too? What music do you listen to when drawing? Have you ever watched ___? (so on, so forth)
Joseph Kelly
Oh by no means, I'd never criticize someone for their use of memes. I'm criticizing you for your use of unnecessary, stupid, and opaque neologisms. The fact that you included 'to be honest', a phrase that's older than mold, in this discussion, suggests you think about these things differently from how I do.
Sebastian Long
>Can an artist take influences and not know about it? I don't really think it's possible, if you really like something you clearly make an effort to replicate it.
Robert Gonzalez
Human brains are just mixers except every ingredient that goes in will also change the shape of the mixer and affect how it processes any future ingredient that is inserted. The ingredients are sensory stimuli (most of which are cultural artifacts such as symbols). The continuous smoothie stream that comes out of the mixer is all the texts we produce. A text is any speech or intent plus the actions necessary to inscribe it into the physical world. Yay for food metaphors.
Jace Perry
>Moebius Right on the money. Moebius, H. R. Giger and Hieronymus Bosch are probably my strongest visual influences. They're also very inspirational people in general. In literature I like Borges and Kafka. And film directors, there are too many to count that I enjoy equally. Regarding (unintentional) plagiarism: In German literature there's an expression that roughly translates to "warming oneself in the heat of a stranger's fire". Meaning you can shield yourself from influences and persist in the cold if you really want to, but it's only natural to be drawn to exceptional art and it's easier to be creative while in that sphere.
Angel Walker
>the discord seems like so much fun. But I feel I need to create some content first. Hehe. Who actually makes comics?
Austin Reyes
"shaking my head to be honest" and variations thereof used to be a hyperagressive, super obnoxious meme on Yea Forums and probably other boards a few years ago. It's interesting that you say it has been a common expression even before the internet (I'm not a native speaker so I wouldn't know). It means an expression can be contextualised as a meme, then re-contextualised as a normalized expression based on the meme to the point where it is no longer recognized as a meme. And none of this is inherent in the actual words, only the public space in which they are used. There's few things that are as simultaneously fascinating yet silly as memes.
You're farmin' some free-range truth there, buddy. Makes a lot of sense if you're ESL you wouldn't pick up on this stuff in the same manner, but your English is flawless so I didn't even consider that
Alright, I read what you posted on tapas. My general thoughts.
>Cute girls. >Eyepatch mom is uff. >I like the art and the artstyle a lot. >Chapter 1 was kinda confusing, chapter 2 feels like the real beggining of the series. Well, its not as if I didnt get chapter 1, is just that it had too many concepts and characters thrown together. I imagine is sort of a flashy introduction. >Eyepatch mom hnnng uff.
James Evans
QUESTION: This isn't going into a comic but I'm still curious, how do you make clothing for quadrupeds not look like ass?
>Wearing clothes not even once But the way I see it done most of the time is to basically treat the entire body like you would a pelvis. You can have them just wear one big skirt that goes around front and back, or you can have a vest that fastens only around the arms and leaves the hind area free, be that the freedom of horse-style careless shits or just the freedom of not needing a friend to fasten up the back for you.

Q AND A: >Why are you using lined paper, you stupid fuck, you idiot shit, you bitch ass dumbass? This is the last chapter of that, I have been using lined paper all this time because its the first skethbook I ever bought and I wanted to complete it.
who cares if you use lined paper, you stupid fuck, you idiot shit, you bitch ass dumbass
Luke Diaz
Ah, when I used to post my first pages >Why are you using lined paper? was the comment I used to get the most.
Nathan White
>lined paper, you stupid fuck, you idiot shit, you bitch ass dumbass I used to think this until I saw the davonism / dear god comics which the author posts here every once in a while. They proof that you can make lined paper part of a comic's aesthetic if you utilize it in interesting ways. That being said, you're not doing something like that atm, so you should really just switch to blank paper. Btw, I complained about your comic being too edgy a few threads back and then other anons jumped on the bandwagon and the criticism devolved into pointless name calling. That's just how an anonymous board works sometimes. I hope it didn't discourage you. I'm not reading your current project but I'm sure you will make something amazing in the future if you keep at it. Take laundrymom for instance. Her first comic was a god-awful one piece ripoff and everyone gave her shit for not taking criticism. But eventually she came around and started working on her art and writing and I enjoy her current webcomic (Devil's Moon) quite a bit.
Elijah Phillips
>so you should really just switch to blank paper. There really isn't a good reason to do this
Oliver Gray
Ah, dont worry dont worry, this is a good time for harsh criticism I think. Even though I still think my comic story is good if you can go beyond the initial edginess.
I have some other ideas for the future, if I dont get discouraged and stop drawing, I hope you might like some of them. I think none of them start with a baby being bludgeoned.

What do you mean? Her name is Scarlet Qian Wei, a member of fire team red magical girls under Ruby Sapphire. Their mission is to kill the avatars of an evil goddess seeking to reincarnate herself into our current timeline from distant past.
Yeah best I could think of eould be short robes or tunics with decorations draped over whatever, followed by those costumes people would put on knight's horses- but that always felt more like ornamentation

clothing basically is ornamentation, so.. that's not too bad. Basically look at how clothes work with gravity, and remember gravity hangs down towards the belly of this critter because its body isn't upright.

Who cares (or even knows) about the 'community' on their hosting site? I've been to the forum on mine precisely once, and I did pick up a new comic to read, but it was purely because I hadn't ever done it before except to consult the admins for technical help. Besides, weird communities are going to happen around porn. It's not your fault, it's not their fault, it's the fault of people who made porn this automatically 'outsider' thing. All those red light bulbs fuck people up worse than Kramer. If you pull your porn, you're only reinforcing that.

Maybe if you weren't so autistic CAPTCHA wouldn't think you're a robot
I find it ironic as fuck that it's difficult to think of a more robotic task than repeatedly scanning images for content, and then, because you're giving that information TO a robot, it doesn't understand you half the time.
Working on the sort of "final boss" spaceship design for my comic. Vaguely the equivalent to the death star within the context of the story. It's created by a species called the Cynex who make all of their machinery out of complex plumbing systems to transport a slurry of nano-machines that make up their deranged hive-mind. This is one of their weakest spacecraft but it still easily outranks anything in our solar system so it poses an insurmountable threat.
always nice to see ya dupe good loredump does anything special appear on that massive central screen?
Luis Lopez
And here's some practice for posing the three protagonists at once in the dimensions the comic will be in. A lot of the comic will be "modular" to allow for daily updates, but uniquely drawn panels like these will be somewhat common.
The computerized soup of the hive-mind just so happens to look exactly like TV static in liquid form, when you're looking at the static, you're looking at THEM. Their language untranslated also sounds like static mixed with dial up tones, they are noise.
Sometimes flashes of other things come up on the screens depending on who they're trying to threaten or make fun of. For humans it might show brief flashes of human eyes or teeth or a skull or just something that makes absolutely no sense as a poorly translated insult.
That's fucking awesome I just assumed the screen facing outward had to be for the benefit of people looking at their ship, like they'd broadcast something threatening, but I guess other Cynex can read the screen and get a news brief eh
Samuel Collins
Honestly a big reason is that there's a load of 90's sci-fi media (what this comic is derivative of) where a prop or environment is just a fuckload of CRT televisions piled up or scattered around. It was that case in The Matrix, 12 Monkeys, Johnny Mnemonic, Cowboy Bebop, Serial Experiments Lain, and countless video game ads and laser tag briefing videos. Why do you they need so many screens showing static or video footage of eyes? Because it looks sick as hell, that's why.
In this specific context I thought of the TV static being like the space equivalent of a Jolly Roger on a pirate ship. Something that says "If you can see this you're already fucked".
It will also show up on screens everywhere whenever the Cynex are in the vicinity. The Cynex are proud and rude and fear nothing. If they're in a solar system they want everyone to know.
Liam Bailey
>Equivalent of a jolly roger okay that satisfies my need for an explanation AND is totally radicool at the same time. Plus it says something about them if, at any given time, their 'flag' is their thoughts.
Carter Gomez
Comicfury’s forums have been shit since probably 2013. It certainly isn’t a new thing with them. They’re almost worse than places like reddit and tumblr for their dumb, weirdo shit.

>Summarize your plot, 30 words or less Action and Mystery series where Super-powered investigators work to solve super-powered crimes and super-powered mysteries/anomalies in a fantasy world.
I'd like to take this opportunity to try my hand again from two threads ago, my last time hasn't been fruitless since I've had my question answered. I now have the eternal problem of "how the FUCK do I properly start my webcomic"'. I've been building up my mythos and got the comics I was looking for for materials (italian disney comics), which helped me find good story ideas, and will help me get more as time goes on. I as well have an overall structure about the whole series, which I can still modify some details and more depending on the stories I will put out.
I have a mold for the start though : the MC starting as an apprentice being taught by his superior on the field (which happens to be his mother, see pic related) as some sort of internship until he's fit to be a full on Patroller (e.g solo investigator). The problem being what kind of crimes/mysteries should they both tackle that could be considered interesting to not only be a good way to introduce the audience to the world but also provide good action and problem solving, but also not bigger than the following stories?
Here's a link to most of the mythos I have written, if that can help: pastebin.com/3rfxukyQ
did you make this? very nice look up things that people put on animals, like drapery on horses or elephants maybe mix it up a little with shape design, you do it in black and white with different values to break up the silhouette
Aiden Wilson
>got the comics I was looking for for materials (italian disney comics) Absolutely fantastic taste.
Xavier Kelly
Not sure if this counts, but I'm making an illustrated fix-it fanfiction series called "The Zone Universe". It's Milo Murphy's Law though with a few changes, including Dr. Zone being Melissa's dad. Yes, Dr. Zone will be important to the plot. The first two books represent seasons, though I might make comics that represent episodes and certain scenes.
Anyway, I'm mostly done with the overall plot and I'm looking for some beta readers.
Sebastian Harris
Wow, that is some quality art for a fanfiction. I think i'm just super jaded after spending so many years on tumblr and deviantart that I automatically expect the worst from any fan content. Looks pretty good my dude.

Your art is my favorite. Upload on Tapas.
Noah Williams
Is it better than Webtoons? Can I get notifications there for comments and stuff without having to check the chapter over and over?
Nolan Stewart
I dont know about webtoons, but Tapas does give you notifications every time someone comments.
William Scott
I like the yogapants that attach to the shirt, it makes a nice little tummyhole when it's attached.
Adrian Moore
So you're the one responsible for that. That's one hell of an obsession, but I have to admit I have those from time to time, insisting characters have to be related.
Jeremiah Bennett
basic. start basic.
John Thomas
as much fun as a tummyhole is, top right has gotta be the best one.
Mason Mitchell
I'm wondering what upload format would be best to go with for the main Tom N Artie comic. I'm caught between doing page by page updates on fridays (same as Tales) or do bi-monthly full 25-page issue updates.
I'm mostly leaning towards the latter. I write the main comic in a more traditional way so I don't think it'll work with a page by page update schedule. How do others feel about it?
I know this is a knee-jerk answer, but split the difference. This has come up many times in the threads and there seems to be something approaching consensus on the matter. It's more fun to read a half a chapter and get twice as many updates, an entire chapter is just too much to sit and read at a time. Hell, I'd go for quarter chapters.
Ayden Long
NSFW is still NSFW- if you're caught looking at artistic nudes at work your boss won't care that it's not sexual, you're still looking at tiddies at work. So post them elsewhere.
Nearly every hosting site for art or comics has an exception in their porn rules for artistic nudes, so if you can make a convincing case that you're not drawing porn, you're safe in theory. The problem is, the average Yea Forums poster is a dipshit with his dick in his hand who mentally inserts titillation into literally every media, no matter how unsexualized. So I highly doubt that anyone here can verbalize the difference between an artistic nude and a cheesecake pinup.
Brandon Clark
That is true. I'm thinking that maybe the best format to do would be 2 pages per week. I'm only gonna start posting Issue 2 and 3 once they're done so me and my team will have time to work on/finish Issue 4.
The coloring really makes the characters pop, I like it!
If I may make a suggestion, however, is maybe a darker color for the backgrounds, here? The pale yellow is almost cheery looking, in contrast with the scene, in my opinion.
Gavin King
Thank you very much!
And damn, you are right. Its even worse because they are supposed to be in a closed space there, there shouldnt be so much light. I have been choosing background colors at random honestly, Ill keep it in mind for the next pages.
I have a thing of not wanting to modify the pages I made much because I wanna check how I improve as I move forward with my comic. But for the next one suddenly its gonna be darker. Thank you again!
Hunter Hernandez
You're welcome! And definitely, it'll be good to keep background colors in mind! You can really use them to your advantage in making your pages even more dramatic.
Caleb Baker
yeah post in the /aco/ thread if there is one up, and if not just use imgur or some other thing and link here.
Gavin Watson
I can't see the difference and I'm looking really hard.
Sebastian Nguyen
bottom panel, one of her bangs is colored yellow in the first image
Jackson Bennett
Ohh it's the background pale yellow. wow i didnt notice at all. I did notice that the hair under her chin in panel 1 is background-yellow, but ... it's in the background, so that kinda works?
personally I wouldn't want my comic's success to be tied into something like that. LIke every time someone criticizes my comic it feels like they're criticizing my relationship and I get all belligerent and everyone starts doing it more just to see how I'll react, just like school.
Ryder Rodriguez
Lucy tried stealing a commission from Laundrymom in the /aco/ commission thread and got fucking destroyed.
That's kinda low, but at least I can understand a motivation of greed. The motivation of you posting this screencap completely eludes me.
Luke Price
>The motivation of you posting this screencap completely eludes me. its incredibly funny that we've reached the point that laundry mom is considered by most to be better than him, while lucy never improves, and fuck him he's a fag.
while I'm on hiatus writing ringo 2, I'll be posting this spinoff about ringo's parents going on an adventure to a rough part of their planet. Here's the first panel
I'm proud of the guy, but I never looked down on him in the first place.
Henry Reyes
I remember a time when threads would get completely derailed with hate toward them. now its just 1 or 2 people posting the really basic "tranny" comment
Alexander Ortiz
Can you be anymore petty? Who would even give a shit, you honestly act like a child.
Evan Cooper
t. Lucy
Leo Barnes
Guys, how do you get the fortitude and willpower to keep being creative when you know stuff like THIS is happening around the horizon?
why would you ever willingly read the news? especially news about twitter? That's like mentally cutting yourself with a razorblade except at least that has some endorphines involved.
Nathaniel Robinson
>build your career upon muh oppressed minority, muh diversity, muh gay, muh sjw shit >sjws eventually turn on you and eat you alive they had it coming, don't do this shit and you'll be fine.
Colton Stewart
the stupid part is they didn't listen to that very specific and repeated warning, and refuse to acknowledge now that we were right. It's not like we want to gloat or anything, just have them listen, for their good and ours.
Xavier Turner
Normally I don't. In this case though it's kinda the exception because it seems they have an authority of sorts regarding the YA writer community.
Isaac Jackson
Quick rundown on this? Seems like a really long winded drama that goes back years.
Easton Price
Guys I can't stop masturbating. I keep thinking all these lewd scenarios for my comic but don't draw as I'm too busy schlicking. Post post.
Alexander King
Skimmed through it, the article is really convoluted. Did this bitch plagiarize or something?
Cameron Allen
tl;dr Chines immigrant writes a story that has a topic regarding slavery. Black SJWs got offended and cause a shitstorm (because aparently only Blacks can write about slavery it seems), she canceled the book. SJWs celebrate as they tear down a POC's work.
Sebastian Scott
Article also claims she lifted lines from Tolkien and scenes from movies. Did she pull a Simmons lite?
>Whether Zhao was guilty of any of the above is still up for debate, particularly in the absence of a finished book. (Blood Heir was not slated to publish until June; some reviewers had advance copies.) But unless we want to eliminate the Death Song trope from fiction or ding Tolkien’s own use of paraphrased Bible passages, the plagiarism allegations are shaky at best — and the charge of racism, led by a series of caustic tweets from YA fantasy author L.L. McKinney, relies on both a subjective interpretation of the word “bronze” and an exclusively American reading of scenes involving slavery. Nevertheless, the latter allegations caught the attention of social-justice-minded readers, and the controversy began to balloon. A smattering of one-star reviews cropped up on Zhao’s Goodreads page. Book bloggers began announcing that they no longer intended to read Blood Heir. In a tweet thread that did not name or tag Zhao but was clearly about her, well-known author Ellen Oh wrote, “Dear POC writers, You are not immune to charges of racism just because you are POC.”
The plagirism accusations are sketchy, but that's not what the Twitterati were mad at her for.
Eli Russell
Authorities like that thrive on acknowledgement. Ignorance is power in this situation.
James Garcia
All gatekeeper movements will inevitably fracture and eat themselves via credential dick measuring. It has nothing to do with sjws specifically anymore than it did with the Tea Party or shitty comicsgate or anti gamergate content. it's just the reality of the zero sum crab bucket mentality. You can't build a negative artistic movement with a limited audience who are all critics before you burn all the witches and start to burn each other.
Juan Rogers
>“Dear POC writers, You are not immune to charges of racism just because you are POC.” So what'd the yellow bitch write about that was so offensive? Slavery is depicted in media all the time, Jabba the hut kept slaves. People of all races were kept as slaves at some point in history.
Anyone read her comic know what they're criticizing in there?
Dylan Wright
I think you're right in that it's not limited to just SJWs. It has to be a certain type of mentality.
Interestingly that both superheroes and supervillains share that mentality.
Josiah Butler
call me a radical libertarian, but I think the miniscule amount of control the average person has on the world around them, even their own basic personal situation, results in people just blaming others for ALL of their problems, even the ones that are totally their own fault. An attitude of more self-determination and responsibility would wipe this problem out like a one-legged surfer with parkinson's.
Gabriel Adams
t. coldfusion
Gabriel Peterson
You want your chicken dinner in the mail, or is cash value okay?
Cooper Collins
Not that this isn't the most interesting the general's been in a hot minute, but this has no relevance to drawing, sharing or writing webcomics. By the way;
>If this is what happens to writers.. "If this is what happens to writers..", what? What am I supposed to imagine coming after dot-dot-dot? Regale us with your wisdom, doomsayer-chan
>call me a radical libertarian we'll call you a faggot like you deserve
Noah Collins
It WILL happen to us if this continues without warning. What, you think this is only THEIR problem?
James Powell
That's the correct attitude towards the metoo problem The social justice harrassment problem really will go away if we just ignore them. Confidence destroys people like that. They think they're in charge because their parents told them they can do anything, and if they don't it's some white man's fault.
Josiah Barnes
lie with dogs get up with fleas. Just dont use social media for anything other than for updates.
Ryder Hughes
All it takes to destroy you though is if you get sold out by one of your "friends".
You think places like ResetEra cannot touch you?
Parker Sullivan
I guess I don't want approval from any of them, or readers who would listen to them. I might feel differently if I had any hope of making money from anything I make. That's why people sell out, they're trying to preserve their livelihoods.
Daniel Bennett
I miss when shitposts in this thread were at least comic-related instead of some weird fake politics horseshit.
I wish Bones would come back from whatever succubus harem he's fucking this time and bring us some actual goddamn webcomics to talk about.
Ryan Thomas
I am enjoying the webcomic Hooky, we could talk about that.
Owen Parker
when do people stop caring about terrible actions you did anyway? like if you said racist stuff when you were 5 years old, i doubt most people would care, but what about when you were 14? 16? 18? 21?
i assume it's an age-based cut off rather than a time based one since if you said something at 25 it'll probably fuck you even at 50.
Cooper Roberts
1.) I was joking about the doomsaying, you know. Knock that shit off, you sound like a conspiracy theorist- half of your argument is just saying 'what if??' very passionately. Use reason and citations. 2.) You never did say what I should see coming after dot-dot-dot
Can't really back this up, but the back-and-forth and taking it seriously seems to be what hurts discussion. Talking about it levelly (or laughing) just makes it another part of the thread
Noah Flores
The important thing is it's not legally enforceable. If you act with the confidence that you haven't done anything wrong, there's a serious limit to the consequences. Now there IS something similar to the legal principal of argumentum a contrario, where you're opening yourself up to problems if you try to speak out at all about some kind of issue, inviting people to dig up all the dirt about you ever, to discredit you. It's definitely a good idea to keep your head down, as it were. But you don't have to put it so far down it's in the sand.
Jack Lee
and you make it sound like "SJWs are not a problem and if you think they are, then you deserve to get attacked by them because they are pure, stop thinking they're going to attack you".
Do NOT underestimate stupidity in large numbers. The ONLY thing keeping us safe is obscurity. And I'm pretty sure most of us want to make a name for ourselves.
Benjamin Rivera
there's a name for yourself, and there's a name for yourself. and jokes need to be treated like jokes, even if the people involved are taking themselves seriously and are making serious threats. people who call themselves 'warriors' are looking for someone who is also playing at war. Just let them make themselves look like idiots. They can't hurt your standing in anyone's eyes except people you never should have wanted to make a name amongst. Or as Tyler the Creator put it "Hahahahahahahaha How The Fuck Is Cyber Bullying Real Hahahaha Nigga Just Walk Away From The Screen Like Nigga Close Your Eyes Haha."
Jordan Allen
I have never heard of it, please post some pages for us to look over. Although this is more a comic maker's thread than a reader's thread
John Perry
I just fucking told you to stop doomsaying >then you deserve to get attacked by them because they are pure And also fuck you
>The ONLY thing keeping us safe is obscurity. So, if/when we get noticed, what outstanding crimes against common decency has /hyw/ et al committed recently? Against the backdrop of the big comics. And how do already established, non-Questionable Content, webcomics continue to survive in this world?
In case you haven't notice, we're in Yea Forums. Waifu threads abound. And given how the MKX and DOA6 debacle proves that The west HATE sexy and would lock us ALL up as sex offenders..
Justin James
>They can't hurt your standing in anyone's eyes except people you never should have wanted to make a name amongst. Just to be clear, I'm the second person, I don't like the WAY he's arguing but yes mob rule is clearly dangerous- people you've never even heard of are going to be a very significant part of your readerbase.
Cooper Jones
it's on webtoons so I can't save pages, but it's a cute (korean?) comic about witch kids who get into some shenanigans. real quality shit.
Justin Anderson
What I find really amazing about this stupid bullshit is that most people who find problematronic elements in media are finding them because they like the media. And they're talking about it because they want to talk about the media they like, good and bad. And on a grander scale, they like to talk about the creative industries, including when things in them are bad, because talking about it is how we work out our problems.
Free speech goes both ways, you can say things that are racist or whatever, but people are allowed to point it out. And the world continues spinning just like it always does. Dickwolves didn't kill Penny Arcade. Just do whatever the fuck you want, whining about your detractors is a bigger negative than whatever stupid problematic hill you're trying to die on.
Jace Parker
>it's on webtoons so I can't save pages WHAT THE FUCK
With how often people will put up short-lived gems only to delete them before they get discovered, I've gotten to a point where I just feel a need to save everything.
Thank god I have Gyazo for screencapping. Look it up, it's very handy.
Hudson Bennett
>The Conspiracy hates cheesecake Oh hey, me too! /tg/ forevermore! But what about the other parts?
But then you have those who don't even READ the media they're complaining about and attack it because they were told to do so. How is that any different than what the D&D scares were?
Nathaniel Clark
mobs are dangerous when they carry pitchforks though. Those hurt. These people can only ruin your social standing, in their own micro-society that I want no place in anyway. It's not like we're in amishland where a shunning means now you can't trade in vital goods.
Blake Richardson
You mean the thing that didn't fucking matter and nothing came of it? I dunno, I guess it's the same.
Jaxon Long
You think the mob will pass you up because of that? You hang out here, that means you're the enemy too.
Jace Smith
i read this comic im surprised how quickly the guy shits out pages, wish i could do that
Leo Brown
Over the years, more and more I am coming to the conclusion that being able to "be controversial" is kind of an skill. Its sort of an double edge sword that at once it shows that you are in line of current public consciousness on certain topics, but you wouldn't be able to control the flow of the discussion to generate public buzz about your projects.
Speaking of harems, I might turn this into magical girl harem for fat MCs because its what makes me happy nowadays. I couldn't generate much discussion around the story I am currently writing its making me pretty disillusioned.
well it mattered to the young people whose lives were ruined, but again the difference there is there were actual authority figures involved, who could actually control their lives. but the solution there is to educate the parents instead of demonizing and dismissing them. As an aside, It's fucking terrifying seeing people MY AGE raising kids and doing and saying everything we hated when 90s parents did.
Lucas Wright
>As an aside, It's fucking terrifying seeing people MY AGE raising kids and doing and saying everything we hated when 90s parents did. Because they grew up and learned what being an adult meant and you didn't? I agree, it's chilling watching the world go by while you specifically get madder and madder about shit that only matters to you.
Jordan Fisher
Alright, let's pretend for one second you're not just shitposting The #1 lesson I got from my parents, and parents of my day, is that parents in THEIR day did shit wrong, and they were proud of how they had left those mistakes behind.
Ryan Wilson
Don't get me wrong, I'm happy your parents were cool with you being gay. Good on them for being progressive. Seems kind of irrelevant to webcomics, though.
Robert White
Did I imply that you deserve to get attacked by them? I said you're insinuating that *I* deserve to get attacked by them because I'm a horrible person for taking them seriously.
Levi Sullivan
So you think they have the right to basically ruin people's lives because they misread the content they read? So you're saying SJWs have a right to attack you and ruin you and if you try to fight them, you're a bad person.
FUCK OFF. The gay black guy wasn't spared either, and HE was one of them who took part of the angry mob.
Leo Torres
>ruin people's lives please reread last line of
Anthony Moore
Yeah, well look at ResetEra was able to do. They can get people fired from jobs, Dox them from their work and now they're causing a ruckus to change Catherine: Full Body's ending.
Underestimating them will be your biggest mistake.
More the implying I like them part. Also since you're picking this conversation back up.
Actually I was blowing you off. So what about them other parts?
Owen Adams
What else do they need? How about the fact that we aren't inherently averse against using the forbidden topics to tell stories. Or the fact that we don't use "sensitivity readers" to check our work before we post it online?
Landon Smith
It's legit pretty good as a reaction image. By the way, since we're about to hit autosage, opinions on our new conspiracy theorist?
Josiah Brown
So, you think ResetEra and what's happened regarding the YA comunity is "just a conspiracy" huh?
Jeremiah Fisher
I feel like this conversation fell onto two completely different wavelengths. Can we start over?
Webcomics currently exists. How are /hyw/'s worse? And if they are not, how do those other webcomics continue to exist?
Zachary Ward
what was your goal in bringing this up and continuing to talk about it?
Ryan Diaz
thank god the bump cap hit so this autistic rant will stop
Jaxon Cook
I think I've only ever heard the word 'doomsayer' once in Thomas Covenant, it feels way too old and quaint to use constantly
Julian James
Because so far, they're not popular enough to warrant an outrage mob. Yet. Penny Arcade had to apologize even thought the apology wasn't warranted and now it lost its bite since.
James Foster
I just think that I feel like giving up. The more I read about SJWs declaring victory over driving away creatives and browbeating them to changing things their way, and them bragging about removing cheesecake, I feel despair. Like they take joy out of taking away evrything I kinda like and took for granted. And soon, they'll come for me. And there's nothing I can do to stop them.
John Nguyen
So you just wanted to share your despair and hopelessness Mission accomplished
Josiah Ward
ignore this user, typing something
Mason Roberts
You mean the reply I got wasn't from the guy I replied to? Consarned anonymity.
Robert Campbell
Penny Arcade lost its bite because they turned into old dads who do their comic for a job and not as a weird side hobby. I just don't expect a middle-aged dude with two kids to have 'bite' any more than I expect Garfield to have it.
Tyler Moore
>they take joy out of taking away evrything I kinda like try liking more things by which i mean go outside
Henry Evans
Oh hey, we finally get back to the main crux of my argument. I agree with you on most issues. Most of this argument has been out of pride or spite or something because the way you talk is annoying. You self-evidently do have allies, the things you're annoyed by are wrong, but no one wants to stand with you because you seem *like* a conspiracy theorist. That's what I was talking about with the overly emotional way of typing. you're still doing it. Present your opinions better. And not in /hyw/, obviously.
Colton Jones
Look I think this guy is overreacting (sort of, I mean, he should be mad, but he shouldn't act like it's a tangible danger, or give it any attention since it thrives on that), but you're in a thread about webcomic artists. We don't go outside. we like our entertainment media. We frequently go through tumultuous issues with people trying to dumb it down for (their idea of) little kids, or censor it for (again, their idea of) elders' sensibilities, in between quality product output, and then THIS starts happening. It's brand new and it is legitimately ruining the one joy in our lives. We've never had moronic hyperliberal young people in charge of diddly squat before, and it's unwelcome how many successes they're having despite constantly calling themselves oppressed victims. It's a legit gripe. Just stop fucking talking about it, because that's what's fueling it. We've literally caught all manner of people including soviet russians deliberately manipulating social media to make more of this happen, because they profit from the clicks. Quit feeding the fucking fire, but don't pretend it's not hot.
Alexander Thomas
Sure smells like CF in here.
Camden Gomez
Yeah, I'm sorry about the way I typed. I was overreacting. I didn't mean it to sound the way I did. If I came across like a retarded /pol/tard, I'm sorry. I just didn't want what I read to happen to us one day. It happened to a lot of other things lately, (heck, believe it or not, it happened in a knitting community). Maybe I need to stop reading this kind of news. (and yet, if I stop reading, there's the feeling that they'll catch me off guard because I said something they had declared offensive) Don't get me started on what happened in the UK where they get actual police involved over twitter shit.
Bottom line is that I need to stop reading this kind of news because all it's doing is feeding me despair.
Jayden Hughes
>Maybe I need to stop reading this kind of news. ding a ding. A lot of people are doing that lately, cutting the cord as it were, and they all report increased happiness. Don't worry, this is freedomland. Nothing's gonna happen like it does in other countries. And if it does, waiting until you hear it in the news will be too late.
Brayden Kelly
>We don't go outside. Most webcomic artists have real day jobs, we sure as fuck do go outside
Maybe your patreon and/or disability check makes you enough money that you don't have to interact with the world, but you're the minority here
And lemme tell you, going outside gives you a lot of perspective that this sperglet is clearly missing
Jayden Wright
>106185372 Almost curious which one you think it is.
Anthony King
I love that you think the outside world is actually beneficial. I bet you're one of those "you need to spend time with those other kids so you learn how to socialize" types. Pro tip: prison teaches you how to be a better criminal, and socializing with garbage makes you stink of it too.
Grayson Miller
You. It's you. You could have laid low and in the next thread pretended you were asleep during this discussion but now we know. Happy birthday.
Cooper Gonzalez
Some of us are ignorant and lack perspective. The rest of us have plenty of perspective, and, having judged it unsatifactory, choose to reject the outside world. If you embrace it, go join them. We'll just stay here in the dark and have to get by without you.
Jayden King
which one are you in this discussion?
Gavin Kelly
>I love that you think the outside world is actually beneficial. I love that you think spending all your time online is actually beneficial, because if it is it's really not showing. Spending time around other human beings in the wild can teach you valuable lessons, like how to make friends, talk to people, and not be CF in general.
Ayden Russell
I don't want to be friends with you, you sound mean
Parker Rogers
I don't want to be friends with you either. You sound like a socially inept retard.
Jaxson Walker
It's a deal.
Luke Brooks
>vidya has less tiddies >this makes some men go crazy i swear to god feminism gets more and more appealing every day.
If it were just that, it wouldn't be that much of an issue desu. Then again, you pirposely ignored all olthe other issues and just zeroed in on that to make me the bad guy. Because it's easier to paint me a creep than to accept the fact that some people have gone mad with power.
Lincoln Cooper
interesting discussion. may not be relevant to most authors here, but it was interesting for me.
Gavin Taylor
It's fine to criticize social media outrage but you are a creep if not seeing busty women in bikini bothers you.
Samuel Edwards
LMAO who even cares Just make your shit and release it
Logan Hughes
im waiting for a game to have nothing but mankinis.
Isaac Hernandez
I thought so. Guess I'll have to cover up my characters then. Wouldn't want to be reported by the religious authourities in my country because a SJW squealed on me.
