If being female has no real consequence to the movie they're making then I don't see how that should matter, we have female heroes already so why should someone go to the theater to see some bland capeshit with generic powers?

That's bad, though? Like with the current survivors, we've been following them for 5+ years for most across dozens of movies and seen them shift and change and grow, and now they're at their lowest point. Who wants to see Captain Marvel overcome thanos? We want to see the ones we've gone on a journey with come to an end.
If anything it wants me to see Captain Marvel less. Who cares, she's just a lazy writing tool trying to pass off as 'progressive' so no one calls out how bullshit it is, like the whole 'Jokes don't have to be funny' with that other guy's standup. I still want to see Endgame because this is the ending journey for the six heroes we saw come together in Avengers in one of the biggest moments ever, but who cares about CM? If she's a dues ex machina, whoopdeefuckindo.

We've shown that Thor could have easily killed Thanos, he just went for a not-immediately-fatal strike. The notion of being more powerful than Thanos has already been breached, we're arbitrarily just setting up Captain Marvel the killsteal, and likely setting up some time travel precedent. The Kree-Skrull war could be interesting, but I don't give a shit about Captain Marvel as a character.

She is a boring and unlikable character and has been for a long time. Her origin is so derivative they changed it for the movie so people wouldn't think they ripped off Green Lantern. Her powers are uninteresting. Her actress is unattractive, unfit, and more importantly, unlikable as a human being.
