So I went back and read the outline story Taeshi has posted for her pre BCB comic called "Magical Girl Lucy-Chan" I'm betting dollars to donuts this will be applied to current BCB and there are some striking similarities with current arcs..

Mike doesn't believe perfect waifu would cheat and over-trusts until he sees it for himself - this causes EMO-MIKE and his eventual suicide which LUCY saves him from.
Alot of wish-fulfillment of Lucy knowing whats best for everyone and "sacrificing" her own feelings even though it all serves her in the end.
Sue x Mike and Sue x Paulo was kinda a thing
Sandy was always a slight rival for Lucy for Mike.
David and Tiff were a thing back then, designs and personalities barely changed (sans the Gang thing)
Lucy's theme of saving everyone and kicking everyone's ass is still a thing she dies alot, gets hurt alot, ect..
Lucy convincing Mike to love her in the most round-about drawn out way with the cheesiest stupiest thing to wake him to his senses to OBVIOUSLY CHOSE HER in the end.

Halloween Arc - Lucy figures out how to help others and comes to a realization ; tensions rise as a threat is on the horizon
Thanksgiving Arc - Big show-down fight ensues with some great evil being defeated ; happens at a mall with a perceived doublecross.
Christmas Arc - Sexual tension/Ships happen or break, revelations, Mike goes emo and tries to kill himself with Lucy to the rescue
Spring Arc - Reunion under the tree where Lucy x Mike resolve their feelings in a super cheesy romance

Im surprised how much is carried over into the comic now..so that's how BCB will likely end---with possible filler arcs sprinkled in to keep this comic on life-support.

It's easy to interpret a lot of nuLucy's lines like that. Her outburst about waiting for years on the ferris wheel with Paulo comes across the same way. Although, once more we have to ask, if she dreaded coming back so much, then why did she come back at all? Lucy's family seems pretty well off, so the private school being just too expensive for them isn't an obvious answer. She didn't even expect to see Augustus, so it couldn't have been for him. She doesn't want anything to do with anybody; there's no non-meta reason for her to be back in Roseville.

He admits at Rachel's party that he was lying so that she'd feel as alone as he did, a feeling that remains completely justified. Not to mention that in spite of the friend group fragmenting, neither of them are actually isolated yet. It's threatening to happen, but hasn't yet.

They treated him pretty poorly even before Sandy was a major player, and how much he relies on Sandy shouldn't really have any affect on the main problem, which is that they always side with Lucy in any given conflict. Lucy isn't even a better friend to the group than Mike, if anything she tended to isolate herself from them even more than Mike.

I'll also mention that Lucy had a hand in convincing Mike to make Sandy his girlfriend in the first place, with Paulo playing a role as well with the cheater mob. It's not like he just latched onto her out of thin air.
