It's generally agreed that BTAS set the bar when it came to writing Mr. Freeze's character. But I will say that all the ingredients for it were already there, just not really utilized properly. It's like the show was given a squeeze tube of cookie dough and their job was to bake it.

Not to discredit TAS for it's achievements in character writing but if you really wanna credit someone for finally doing something worthwhile with Mr.Freeze, give it to the 66 show and George Sanders's version of the character.
His accident is treated as seriously as anything could be in the show and while it didn't stop him from being just as delightfully hammy and evil as every other villain in the show, the tragic edge works for him and he has lines that seem almost identical to the Heart of Ice monologues.
It set the stage for what TAS would later improve on.

It's not tainted by anything; it's a good costume design in a good movie that serves a genuinely practical role in Spider-man's involvement in the film.
You're not bitching about the costume, you're bitching about decisions made about the character's sudden inclusion in an established universe that ran contrary to the mainstream idea of how Spider-man should work, for better or for worse.
