Why there isn’t more triple-A superhero games like Arkham and Injustice?
Why there isn’t more triple-A superhero games like Arkham and Injustice?
Because there is and Square Enix shelved Deus Ex for the garbage, what a colossal waste
I wish I had a straight answer but it seems like alot of cape games need a massive safety net in order to sell. That safety net either being an A-list hero or Lego in the name.
Tbh I'd kill for a Suicide Squad coop game, a Daredevil beat'em up (I know this was a cancelled game idea) and a few others. But alot of heroes will make mainstream gamers go 'Who?' and then drop.
I'm more surprised that we haven't seen more games pop up with superhero vibes since the MCU is so popular. One concept I always thought was awesome would be to play as a low-level henchman having to make his way up through the supervillain organization.
mobile games are faster and more cost effective ways to cash in the superhero movie bubble. They're just safer for a publisher
Rocksteady devs said that Arkham Asylum was almost a “indie game” considering it’s low budget and no movie tie-in with the Nolanverse.
We know
>Warner Bros Montreal is making a new Batman game based on the Court of Owls
>Rocksteady is making a game about a team of DC superheroes that isn't Justice League
>Spider-Man 2 is obviously in development
>Injustice 3 is also happening.
Oh and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 and whatever the Avengers Project is
>Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3
Switch exclusive
>a Daredevil beat'em up (I know this was a cancelled game idea)
It was more than a cancelled “idea”, you can find gameplay footage on the YouTube.
>Rocksteady is making a game about a team of DC superheroes that isn't Justice League
well lets speculate
>JSA
>Teen Titans
>Young Justice
>Outsiders
>Suicide Squad
>Legion of Superheroes
>>Rocksteady is making a game about a team of DC superheroes that isn't Justice League
If is real it could only be Titans.
>Warner Bros Montreal is making a new Batman game
Nice
>based on the Court of Owls
Fuck this shit.
Suicide Squad was in development in WB Montreal but was cancelled. I don't think it's that one. I wonder if DC is stupid enough to make a Watchmen game.
There is already a Watchmen beat’em up.
The latest Deus Ex was garbage.
HR was good though, so was the OG deus ex.
Teen Titans
I recall a tweet about a guy working on Rocksteady saying he had to explain to his higher-ups how to integrate black magic into videogame mechanics. Really that could only mean he is working on Raven, JLDark (unlikely) or some villain.
Because vidya writers don't read comics, they watch anime
Squaresoft is making an Avengers game that has been compared to Destiny but they have not officially announced it yet for some reason.
Jason Schreier has been saying those details since E3 but he refuses to say what it actually is. He hasn't outright debunked Teen Titans (unlike JL) but he has been kinda lukewarm to that option.
Imagine something like Ultimate Alliance (4-player co-op) but with Arkham Knight or inFamous quality, gameplay and the Titans roster.
So is JLDark or Suicide Squad? I really doubt LoSH getting a triple A game or any type of game for that matter.
>I wonder if DC is stupid enough to make a Watchmen game.
They were stupid enough to do Doomsday Clock, so why not.
>Implying writers have any pull in deciding which licensed games get made
Do you also think Batman and Spider-Man comics keep being published because the writers want to do them?
Latest Deus Ex was half of a really good game, worth buying at half price
Jason Schreier also said Suicide Squad was in development in WB Montreal but was cancelled for a new Batman game (originally with Damian Wayne, then repurposed) so I guess that's gone too. Justice League Dark sounds unlikely simply because he said it's not Justice League. kotaku.com
I say he has been lukewarm towards TT because some Reddit user said that Schreier personally talked to him and told him it's Teen Titans. Of course, this was bullshit, and Schreier said so (while being kinda amazed by the situation). His wording was interesting because he said it on a way, maybe unintentionally, that it's clear that he is only debunking the Uncle at Nintendo part.
The right studio with the right vision hasn't come along yet. Be patient user, it's coming!
>please more press "A" for awesome
any inside info user? It’s sounds like you know something
Blue Beetle game by the same devs that did Vanquish.
>I wish I had a straight answer but it seems like alot of cape games need a massive safety net in order to sell. That safety net either being an A-list hero or Lego in the name.
But why? What makes obscure characters any different than video games with brand new characters and premises? It's essentially the same thing to a new consumer.
Rockesteady and Neatherrealm are under WB so there is no problem with creating Injustice and Arkham. Other studios would need to make a deal with either WB or Disney and who knows how much that costs. Currently with the success of Overwatch, Fortnite and even Cuphead plus the demand in older franchises like Spyro and Crash, studios are a lot more willing to create new franchises instead.
Games are for nerds, losers and kids.

I honestly can't think it isn't going to be Titans/Young Justice. Unless WB Montreal cancelled the Suicide Squad game because Rocksteady is doing to do it or it's a general DC heroes game that's a JL game in all but name.
They simply wouldn't take the risk of other teams like LOSH, JLD, Outsiders, and JSA, even if Batman were on any of them.
>there's a Watchmen show in development
Yes they are stupid enough to also make a video game of it.
>Warner Bros Montreal is making a new Batman game based on the Court of Owls
So since the Arkham Crisis "leaks" were obvious bullshit, what are we hoping for this game?
>Origins sequel or Knight sequel
>what batfamily members playable and important in story if any
>what villains that aren't Joker should get the spotlight
I'd seen rumors from a few months ago saying it's set after Origins, there's Batman and Robin co-op, and the Court busts Arkham open to wreak havoc to distract Batman.
>Batman and Robin co-op
I hope this is true.
>Warner Bros Montreal is making a new Batman game based on the Court of Owls
extremely fucking gay, kys WB
Idk, I guess cause most cape games are usually beat em ups or fighting games because we don't the technology to make a game where you can fully play heroes above street level.
>hoping for the batfamily to have any importance
Did you learn nothing
>Arrow has been running for a thousand years
>no Green Arrow game
sucks
I want a game like l4d or vermintude but with iron fist dd cage and jessica
>>Injustice 3 is also happening.
Should be called MKvsDC 2
Think of Max Payne 3, but instead of guns it's different type of arrows.
>Teen Titans
>Young Justice
Those two are literally the same franchise. The only real difference is that Young Justice lives on a cave and the Teen Titans live on a T-shaped tower.
>Warner Bros Montreal is making a new Batman game based on the Court of Owls
Soooo we hoping it’s set after Origins or Knight? And how will Joker end up being the main villain?
Because DC can't afford it
Thankfully Based Marvel is picking up the slack
>Soooo we hoping it’s set after Origins or Knight? And how will Joker end up being the main villain?
I'm guessing Origins because that's the only way Joker can be the main villain.
>Avengers Project
It's dead, Jim.
pls no
don't even joke
Making an open world game that works with the character’s powerset is fairly difficult. Spider-Man and Batman worked because they’re all about swinging and gliding, but someone with actual flight wouldn’t have the same satisfaction of proper stakes for a common encounter. Flash is far too fast for things to load, Superman has too many powers to convincingly create mooks that can beat you, etc
no one cares about games for edge lords
>what villains that aren't Joker should get the spotlight
Personally, I hope we get the Music Meister. youtu.be
>Games are for nerds, losers and kids.
So, just like comics and animation.
Because it takes creativity to make one and a lot of game developers lack that.
Rocksteady and WB Montreal have really dropped the ball since Arkham Knight, what the hell they’re working on?
Doom Patrol
At least WB has its own dev studios eco-system, how Disney wasn’t able to do that now that they own Star Wars and Marvel?
Because DC doesn't want to give anyone but Batman a game. Flash vidya fucking when?
I understand that some DC characters are hard to do in a vydia, like Superman and Flash but the Batman/Spider-Man formula would easily work on other characters like Green Arrow, Daredevil, some user mentioned Vanquish gameplay would work for a Blue Beetle/Iron Man game.
After Mortal Kombat 11 is released in April you gonna see new DC games being announced.
It has to be Teen Titans then. Schreier also said it's "not really" Batman. The only way he could have possibly doubled is if the game has Batman-related characters in it, and Suicide Squad was cancelled.
But they almost made one.
youtube.com
...
Not a joke, we all know Joker is going to end up being the main villain.
Maybe he gets the talon formula and Bats is distraught and has to find a way to save his boyfriend.
>Batman Arkham
>Not having Joker as the main villain somehow
Have you even been paying attention to this franchise?
Games like Anthem, Infamous, Star Wars games, Dishonored and some other stuff have most of the appeal of playing a superhero game which is playing as a character with superpowers regardless of whether the characters are considered to be superheroes. They don't have to possibly constrain how they make the game to be in line to some degree with stuff from comics and to pay licensing money to who owns the comics. There are even more games that are similar to playing as a hero without superpowers like Batman such as Assassin's Creed.
And Wonder Woman can be easily adapted into a God of War / Witcher system. But seeing as this is Yea Forums I won't seriously suggest that. Just pointing out an option besides doing Batman Kick Puncher 5
WB Montreal is working on TWO games: a Batman game that includes Court of Owls and a 2nd IP that is new.
Rocksteady is working on a team based game that isn’t Justice League or Batman-based.
MK11 releases in April so WB won’t even begin to talk about either of those until hype for MK11 has been milked.
I imagine that, optimally, late 2019 will be WBM game, 2020 will be Rocksteady’s game, 2021 will be Injustice 3, and 2022 will be WBM’s second ip game.
I've just finished Knight and I was rolling my eyes every time joker had a line and what a fucking idiocy his presence was and how nonsensical the idea was
I know is just fighting games but Netherrealm Studios has delivered three games since Arkham Knight release
The whole idea of Jokerism is fucking stupid when they state that it's basically a prion disease, you just don't fucking "get over" a prion disease the way Batman does, Batman would be (more) insane for the rest of his life as a result of it.
I'm talking more DC games in general. WB probably doesn't want to oversaturate or rush things. Injustice and Arkham Origins were the closest they've been released together and even then one was at the beginning of the year and the other at the end.
And Injustice/MK have a 2/4 year cycle. Two years apart from each other with four years between each sequel. MK 2011, Injustice 2013, MK X 2015, I2 2017, MK11 2019, etc.
Are you retarded? It's been in development for a little over two years. It's just classic SE announcing something way to early again.
Be glad Disney fails so hard a vidya. We get enough censorship bullshit as is without the mouse fucking things up.
I miss the 90s Capcom’s Marvel aesthetics in games but MVCI proved this period is long gone and isn’t coming back.

Why DOES Disney fail at video games so hard? You'd think after conquering animation and now movies they could go after video games too.
They are waiting until they can buy Nintendo.
The first game where you win when you die!
I guess there hasn't really been that much of an overlap between Disney's general audience and people who care about video games so it's never been something they've thought to invest in. Owning Marvel and Lucasfilm has only been a thing for 6 or so years. Lucasfilm I guess came with Lucasarts but they were in fucking terrible shape before the Disney film so it's not a surprise they just decided to close that down and sell the license to the highest bidder. Why spend money trying to salvage an entire company and invest in games that won't be finished for a few years when they can get an immediate ROI by selling a huge license to the highest bidder and not have to deal with losing money on Lucasarts in general? It makes sense.
plus with Marvel I don't think any of those characters lend themselves to a video game that well. Characters like Spider-Man and Batman are popular and also have huge rogue galleries with just as popular villains. Plus gameplay-wise those characters would be easy to pull off. I don't think the same could be said for Captain America. Or Thor. Or Iron Man.
Cap could have a game easily tho
Spider-Man PS4 only happened because Sony is already friends with Marvel due to the MCU deal.
The Arkham gameplay mechanics (counter based combat, detective vision) would be perfect for a Daredevil game.
Thor game could be something like God of War
Iron Man like Vanquish but it flight.
yeah but then it'd just be the same as Arkham Asylum without the Batman stuff which is mostly what makes those games appeal to everyone. If they just sold those minigames where you can play as Nightwing and fight waves of generic thugs as a full game no one would be interested. T
..I would
A Suicide Squad game with a large roster of villians would be great. You would have to pick your team based on how their skills will help you in a mission and the mission get's harder to complete with each death.
Both Flash and Supes could easily be made into games. For all it’s flaws Anthem nailed the flight mechanics. Super speed is easy as fuck to implement.
Do you retards think devs would implement Morrison level heroes where Supes can bench press the planet and Flash thinks in attoseconds? They’d be at DCAU power levels most likely.
That's still a popular console.
I only Netherealm Studios should do Suicide Squad a it should be, full of blood and guts.
...for Nintendo games
cuz AAA games are expensive, and getting the licsence is more expensive.
Licenses are too expensive. Warner has some videogame studios but Disney practically has none.
