Imagine being a jap who liked an MCU or DCEU movie and decided to look up the comics. Their brains would implode because of how vast and unorganized it was compared to manga.
Imagine being a jap who liked an MCU or DCEU movie and decided to look up the comics...
They care as much about cape comics as Americans do, which is to say, they don't. Graphic novels are the future of comics
I agree. I wish floppies would just die, honestly
Pretty much. Japs read individual chapters because they come for cheap in a huge magazine printed out of toilet paper. The compiled editions are the ones your keep.
Hot take: it's not THAT hard to get into American comics and manga, while easier to get into, still has the problem of manga runs lasting fucking forever, so in order to get caught up, you still have to do a fuckton of reading.
what's a manga?
They were the future 10 years ago. And 20 years ago. When does the future actually arrive?
>not knowing there are western LCS and superhero fanbases in japan
how new, are you?
Yeah, I mean, I only recently got into capeshit comics, and most of the problem was just in my head. It felt like getting a solid "understanding" of the world and characters would be a huge task, and I thought they were a lot more serialized than they really are.
Once I realized that I can pretty much just start wherever I want in any series I want, and most of the information needed for the story would be presented, I just jumped in.
Cape comics from the big two aren't comparable though. They're a completely different type of storytelling to manga, which is more comparable to something like the Walking Dead.
what's wrong with you?
just pick an omnibus of your choice and read it. it's not that hard.
Because if I want to read 616 Spider-Man, I don't want to read 800 issues of Amazing Spider-Man, 151 issues of Web of Spider-Man, 314 issues of Spectacular Spider-Man, and god knows what other series he has, just to know that right now Peter is banging MJ again while Aunt May has cancer.
That's why you pay attention to the book. When Peter thinks to himself "I'm hard as Hell! Need to get home and fuck MJ in the ass, but first I need to pick up Aunt May's CANCER MEDICATION. The pharmacy closes in five minu-SPIDER SENSE! RHINO! OH FUCK ME!" then you understand what's going on.
>SPIDER SENSE! RHINO! OH FUCK ME!
umm actually Rhino is seemingly a good guy at the moment. He teamed up with Miles Morales to find a bunch of kids, and then Captain America showed up and they all worked together.
Although Rhino might be a little bit mad at Peter specifically, because Rhino got kidnapped and asked the real Spider-Man for help, but Peter was busy because he thought Aunt May got merced while dating a hobo.
But what I'm saying is, you can really just jump in at the beginning of any arc. Any background information will be given to you, or if not, usually at least an editors note telling you which issue to look up.
They are a small niche of japanese with high level autism to wiki what comics to read
>he thought Aunt May got merced while dating a hobo.
Well, that has me a bit curious.
Latest issue of the latest volume of The Amazing Spider-Man, #15.
it won't. they'd read a couple of issues, but then realize how meaningless it is because it's a never ending story and just drop it.
I think they'd enjoy the challenge.
>still has the problem of manga runs lasting fucking forever
You're telling me. JUST GET BACK IN THE RING YOU FUCK!
The issue I find is that while manga is a very fluid read, comics are comparatively static. The concept of motion isn't very well conveyed and having to read an essay on every page in size 10 font means that comic book action feels like a series of photographs rather than something actually happening.
Lol I can tell you haven't checked the 2channel threads they have for Marvel and DC, they follow up just fine.
>He doesn't know about the Dogwelder meme in Japan that became so popular that DC went and translated Hitman in Japanese.
Obviously they don't read as much western comics (which they call amecomi) as they do manga but Marvel and DC stuff have enough fans in Japan to warrant both Marvel and DC to translate some comics and the ones they don't translate have people doing scanslations similar to how people in the west do them.
Copy and paste アメコミ into twitter and DCコミック or マーベルコミックス (Marvel Comics).
Pic related is westaboo fanart that i found and it's obvious the person who drew it went beyond than just the movies.
Was Peter or May dating the hobo?
I think the only time where cape comics were popular in Japan was the early 90s Jim Lee X-Men, the cartoon had Japanese anime opening and Capcom went after Marvel characters license for games only because of the X-Men.
Yup, the Marvel side of the MVC2 roster was like 90% X-Men.
Tell me what the Elevens think about mah boy Dogwelder.
Also, Ame-Comi Girls makes a lot more sense now.
Wasn't it a fan translation?
Westaboos are a weird breed
They actually know more about comics than Yea Forums
There's a Martian Manhunter drawing of him holding an Oreo drawn by a Nip
Also, golden rule
If a Nip likes Amecomi chances are they'll mention Hellboy being at least one of them
>They actually know more about comics than Yea Forums
Well that's not fucking hard
>he doesn't know chiba toshirou's DC and Marvel doujins
May. Although, hyperbole aside, May just walked out on a (platonic) dinner she had with another man because he was being an ass, went into an alley, and decided to go back inside with a bum who is actually a clone of an important character who was being mugged.
>tfw you'll never watch japanese dub of JLU and JL Action
Besides Wonder and Blister, what LCS are common? Please educate me, I've been living here for years, but you seem to know more than I do.
The fan bases you're talking about are comprised entirely of people who liked the movies. They're the same casuals we'd adamantly hate on here.
That said, capeshit is confusing to Japs because the idea of retcons, a shared universe and alternate stories told by different creators using the same characters are virtually foreign concepts. Americans forget that this is basically exclusive to their idea of comics.
What do they say?
>so in order to get caught up, you still have to do a fuckton of reading.
This shitty state of mind is really unique to cape comics. Do you think people who want to read Game of Thrones when the next book will be out will be like "shit, I've to read 5 books before I can read that book that just came out"?
