i don't know if you can find it in english or anything else than french but it's very good. As a matter of fact everything done by Mezzo and Pirus is really really good. Also it's supposed to happen near where i live.

Not even as good as David Mazzucchelli's City of Glass.

Not that user but it's about the Boxer rebellion, and its two books, one from the perspective of a Chinese girl who converts to Christianity, and one from a boy who becomes a leader in the Boxer rebellion. It's a really interesting historic fiction book all around.

In fairness, Vivès really isn't for everybody and some of his comics may be too degenerate for most audiences.

It's typical of any 20-something doing entry-level office work in a big city I guess. Living in small overpriced apartments with roommates, getting home after dark and feeling totally exhausted from fighting for a promotion you're not sure you want... And then trying to keep up with your artist/service worker friends on the weekends who have limitless energy.

It doesn't showcase Toronto landmarks the way Scott Pilgrim does, but I definitely recognized neigbourhoods/buildings.

I think Toronto gets a bad rap. There aren't a lot of touristy things, but there's a lot of great neighbourhoods just off the downtown strip to explore: Kensington/chinatown and the annex/little italy where the characters seem to live. There are so many great bookshops, cafes, dive bars, restaurants and live music venues to discover... And a lot of diversity and for some reason there are beautiful women everywhere (imo).

The financial district is full of commuters who enter and leave via the underground path on their way to/from the trains in gigantic herds, and never venturing more than 2 blocks away from the core. It's miserable, so they think the whole city has that character.

No. Especially if your mother language is not a romance language. The way we conjugate verbs is different than in anglo-saxon languages and every noun and pronoun have a gender. Example: in English you only have "the"; in Portuguese you have "o" for a single male, "a" for a single female, "os" for male plural, "as" for female plural but if it's a mixed gender group of people or objects you have to use the male plural pronoun. French is the same (the = il, elle, ils, elles), so for me it's easier. I also was able to get how regular verbs "behave" pretty fast, because it's similar to portuguese.
45 days might be enough to understand comics, tho: if you don't get the whole page at least you get the context and words that show up a lot will give up their own meaning eventually. That's how I gathered a lot of english vocabulary when I stopped having english classes.
But to really get to a conversational level, I would say it will take a year of Duoling plus french comics, music and tv/movies.
