What the fuck

what the fuck
is these the lincoln/kennedy assassination of cartoons?
Except they both happened at the same time, both ran from 2005 to 2007

I think the creator pitched to both studios, but never thought he would get accepted by both.

I remember the creators of one of these shows talking about this on the toonzone forum

That's not even all, both shows were set in a big city on a coast, both of the protagonists had a magical family linage that mysteriously skipped their parents generation, both of them had a glasses wearing office worker father who knew nothing about magic or the true nature of his family. And weirdly enough both of the dogs are not only "century old" they're both stated to be 600, which is really specific and confuses the hell out of me.

I mean I noticed it they second they both aired at the time. I'm sure plenty others did. Yes it bothered me

I think Juniper was pitched first but Jake Long managed to make it to television first.

Quantum flotsam from the Large Hadron Collider

>not even mentionning that they are both of chinese origin, which should be the most obvious thing to point at

these two cartoons were meant to exist in seperate dimensions but converged into this one during the berenstain event

Who looked at Haley and Rayray and said "yes kids will want to see an obnoxious snotball be an asshole"?

I'm baffled.

One time in a community college math lab an asian girl with a pink stripe in her hair sat down across from me at a "anyone sit here and do your math homework" table. I tore off a piece of paper from my notebook and wrote "you look like Juniper Lee" on it. I slid it to her as I left and never saw her again. This was extremely awkward and I was a hyper virgin at the time. I forgot about that until now.

This answers why I felt like Juniper Lee was on the wrong channel. It didn't have the same tone the other CN cartoons had

POONA THE FUCK DOG

Pretty sure they just both drew inspiration from jackie chan adventures and the Sabrina cartoon.

Which show was better?

How the fuck did you hate Haley or Ray Ray, without being a killjoy?

Just watch Jackie Chan Adventures.

Based on the credits on wiki, they don't share creators, producers, or even voice actors.

Seems more like a case of counter-programming, absent any hard evidence.

>Why yes, I do indeed dislike Haley. How did you guess?

Attached: M9hF2kA.jpg (2136x3216, 547K)

I love that theory. It’s fucking briiliant.

>Which show had the better porn?
ftfy

wait holy shit fucking JUDD WINNICK created Juniper Lee?

Any good crossover fan fiction.

Maybe this is a huge coincidence?
I liked Jake Long more but I remember Juniper Lee being decent. I might rewatch both shows eventually.

Damn, he must've felt it the most

I Am Weasel and Angry Beavers were also very similar.
The basically, the story of a charming and successful protagonist and the goofball

Could be. Something similar happened when two unrelated Dennis the Menace cartoons debuted on the same day, one in the US and one in the UK. The creators shrugged and didn't sue each other, so that's neat.

It would be interesting to see, I imagine there'd be a moment where Juniper can't leave her town and Jake doesn't understand.

Jesus kill yourself senpai I can feel the embarrassment

Soul vs. SOULLESS

It's the old corporate delusion that kids want a side-kick their age to self-insert as. It was wrong then and is still wrong, but refuses to dies. Kids want to be the main hero, nor some background schmuck.

This is such an insane event that I think the creators probably looked at it and thought "what the fuck this is some cosmic bullshit" and just let it slide. The fact that it was literally the same fucking day separated by the entire Atlantic Ocean in the pre-internet days is just absurd.

Cringe

Its more likely that one creator pitched to both studios, and the one that rejected him stole the basic premise and reworked the content.

Nope. As far as I know neither pitched to the other channel. Although I do vaguely remember something about American Dragon's development being stepped up after Juniper Lee was announced.

>Kids want to be the main hero

A little bit of these is "stereotypical chinese mysticism" plus Spiderman elements, which obviously churns out similar backstories, but things like the 600 year old talking dogs and the very similar school friends is a little much.

Jake Long was definitely better, though. There was something more likeable about it, maybe just the specificity of the lore? Juniper Lee's concept always felt a little less clear overall.

I think some of the characters were created while he was on Real World but the show concept was inspired by Buffy a few years later.

gooks look all the same

Do you know a single kid who given the choice would rather be Robin than Batman, Jimmy Olsen rather than Superman, Spider-lad rather than Spider-man?

children don't want to be Peter Parker, they want to be Spiderman in place of Peter Parker. why do you think the Japanese enjoy shows about the hapless hero gaining a secret treasure or mecha robo through accidental means? that is exactly what spiderman is, a hapless child accidentally gaining the powers to save the day, anyone can wear the mask and declare themselves as such, what takes it to the next level is actually having the power that gives admiration through a persona that no person could handle realistically

Are you autistic? WTF does your post has to do with anything I've said?

I mean I'd fuck Haley which is all that matters in the end.

jake long S1 > juniper lee > jake long S2

US Dennis the Menace is some real pussy shit tho

Aren't they the same franchise? I thought the British one was the original and the American one was changed for whatever reason.

No, they have different creators, different characters and different premises

If I remember correctly, Juniper Lee was more slice of life with supernatural elements and Jake Long was basically a supernatural action cartoon.

>different premises
No, same premise, wildly different execution.

...

I loved American Dragon (both seasons) but I think I only ever saw a few episodes of Juniper Lee, if any.

Jake Long was released 5 months before Juniper Lee. That's not enough time between the two for Juniper to have ripped off Jake, given how long pre-production tends to take on any given, non-South Park cartoon.

Unless Judd Winnick snuck into Disney Studios back in 2004 wearing a Goofy Costume, a fake beard and furiously cribbing notes--or an even more pointless Antz/Bugs Life scenario where someone who works for CN somehow caught wind of what Disney was doing at the time-- it's pure coincidence.

That being said, Jake Long was the far better cartoon.

All Juniper Lee did every single fucking episode was complain about the situation she was in. And yes, while it was a shitty situation she faced, if you have your MC moan about EVERYTHING, all the time, it devalues sympathy for her, whereas the MC of the other similar show can and will sack it up and turn into a dragon to deal with his shit. There's really no contest.

I much preferred Juniper Lee for some reason and I don't know why because when I think about it they're about the same levels of mediocrity in my mind. But I think I just liked the basic approach to the premise more.

Some of the characters and even entire stories were from his Barry Ween comics. Like the sasquatch girl and the "loved one becomes a monster and we can't turn him back so we just put his spirit into a nearly identical homonculus body" thing. I have to imagine that he had a bit of trouble pitching Barry Ween as is and Juniper lee was the eventual result.

>that episode where she found out she can't leave her hometown, a magical barrier physically keeps her inside it
>she was planning on getting on a plane and going on vacation
christ, what would have happened there?

Attached: y2wcXNJ.jpg (628x504, 32K)

I only remember Bigfoot being made into some hairless girl with big feet and the black kid Juniper Lee wanted to fuck, but I can remember a shit ton more from Jake Long.
Fuck Juniper Lee was forgettable as fuck.
Who the fuck were the big villains again? Did she even have friends or did she just stuck around the dog, her grandma, and her brother?

which one? link?

racist

>POONA THE FUCK DOG
what the fuck is this
jesus christ

Attached: postcardfront.jpg (1230x1830, 1.42M)

The one that lasted longer.

isn't that a naylor illustration/from-one-of-jay-naylor's furry-porn-comics??

>Did she even have friends
There was Jody the pigtailed blonde genki girl that may have been a cheerleader, and Ophelia the goth girl that always looks completely fed up with everything.
Juniper Lee doesn't seem to have an overarching villain like Jake Long did with the Huntsman and that evil dragon in the volcano.

yes, yes it is, he was specially commisioned for this work.

At least Juniper was sexy.

>and the very similar school friends is a little much.
At the very least that one can be chalked up to tired character dynamics. In any given kids show, there is always at least three people who are friends; the "generic" friend, the black friend, and the wild card. The wild card is dependant entirely on the protagonist, and also usually the love interest to the "generic" friend.

>googled American Dragon Jake Long
>this book was published in 2003, with a the sequel in 2004
>both shows debuted in 2005

could this explain anything ?

>Children's cartoons get adapted from children's books
Really fucking common

Attached: 1362639863363.jpg (965x809, 126K)

Here's the important ways they were different: Jake was an obnoxious caricature of what out of touch adults though was cool to kids in the 00s, whereas Juniper actually felt more like a real person. Also Juniper had a way better theme song.

only thing I could think of is that

>AD is pitched to CN
>they pass on the idea
>Disney decides to accept it
>It may be a giant hit for them
>ohshit.jpg
>recycles AD premise but gender flipped

Did Juniper Lee ever have a crossover episode?

Attached: Vlcsnap-2012-11-02-22h30m38s208.png (640x480, 292K)

The CN city bumpers are the closest I can think of.

Juniper Lee confused me as a kid, because it explicitly references Warner Bros characters, like Batman. I thought that was illegal or something, thus warranting the need of knock off characters.

The plane would've crashed horribly, killing everyone inside, but June would've gotten out okay because the field would literally brickwall her in, making her rip through the plane. though she's some kind of superpowered prodigy, so a little explosion and fall from 5000 feet wouldn't hurt her.

Completely different.

You could have stayed user, maybe she recognized the show and you would have laughed...

>Jake was an obnoxious caricature of what out of touch adults though was cool to kids in the 00s
Jake acted like every Asian nigga that listens to hip-hop, he wasn't unrealistic at all.
>Also Juniper had a way better theme song.
I have a hard time believing this.

Jake's personality was one of immaturity and no self-awareness, being 14. He thought his Andy Griffith white dad was embarrassing, but his wiggerisms won't last and will look worse in hindsight. That's the point. It creates conflict when his embarrassing behavior and perception clash with reality.

>Juniper had a way better theme song
hell no.
jake long might have been the epitome of 2kool4school but at least it's pretty damn catchy.
juniper's sounds like the intro for a very bland sitcom
