ITT:unpopular opinions about transformers
Prowl isn't a dick.
>Starscream is a chad
All cartoons from the 80's, 70's, and 60's were overrated. They got a lot of credit for having a fascinating concept, but usually lacked the budget and age demographic to do anything with it. I appreciate that the concept was off the wall, instead of just a dull slice of life sitcom for kids.
Movie Ironhide is better than G1 Ironhide, prove me wrong.
I just find them way overrated, way too many people whine about how modern cartoons suck and they look at 80s TMNT and call it a masterpiece
Oh hey, Do we start our Weekend Female Transformers thread now? Or shall we wait a couple more hours?
Way too early.
It's still not Friday! Also main OP from those threads, wait, I actually like the concept of this thread. Kinda wanted to make it the main discussion point of the next one.
anime is trash
I hate Timezones
Wow user, which country are you posting from?
Australia.
Yeah that makes sense. Do you have an Outback by any chance?
LIQUID NITROGEN!
Suburban Australia thankfully.
Nice.
Anode and Tarn are the best characters ever.
>Cannons big enough to make G1 Megatron jealous
>Cool, functional altmode
Movie Ironhide for life.
>Both g1 and bayformers are pretty overrated despite some good designs and some great comic tie ins
>Beast wars is better
There it is.
Wasn't that TFWiki attempting to force a meme out of nothing, the same as they did with Skywarp pushing people down stairs, or all the 'jokes' on Drift's article?
Prime has the best designs in the entire franchise.
For the longest time I thought the Skywarp thing really was canon.
>Posts cute fanart.
Well, it has some of the nicest fanart, that's for sure.
>>Beast wars is better
Beast Wars was good for the time, but just like most of the G1 cartoon, the animation hasn't aged well. Transformers doesn't need a Beast Wars sequel, that story had an ending. What it needs is a drastic revamp like Beast Wars was, but something just as different, new and fresh as BW was.
They repeat that joke so many times on his page, it'll probably become canon one day if someone starts using TFWiki for research.
It's so fucking overused I think we are safe for a while. Even Hasbro must be aware. The Alternity caption can't be topped, though.
>Mods fucking complain about overused jokes.
>Force overused 'jokes' that manage to be funny once or twice.
>Everything is shit except Beastwars
So you're a robo furfag.
Indeed!
This, 8 years later and I’m still seething.
DotM? Man, all the Autobots suffered horrible deaths.
>ut just like most of the G1 cartoon, the animation hasn't aged well
On the surface, no, but the actual character animation is great and subtle. They took advantage of CGI character models to make every little gesture and movement possible, which is something thats still lost on most CGI animation.
Yeah, Jazz’s death sucked, and knowing Jolt got destroyed by Shockwave back at Diego Garcia blew, but Ironhide and Ratchet’s deaths hit me like a sack of bricks.
There's Airachnid and...?
No other bot in that show had their best design in Prime
Knock Out.
> bayformers are pretty overrated
thats not unpopular at all, even normal people realize bayformers is shit.
Both were the heart of the team and they died betrayed. At least Jazz, while outclassed, went out like a warrior. Plus, they were mainstays.
Yes, it fucks you up.
Cliffjumper. Soundwave, too
Munky is better then trukk!
Transformers is better when it goes full retardicon
Any attempt to make it serious business ends up being absolute shit
Animated wasn't that good.
Also, Blackarachnia doesn't deserve nearly the amount of praise and appearances she gets.
Based Boco.
Decepticons and Autobots are explicitly different races plus some turncoats. Autobots are fucking racists, all flying altmodes are Decepticons save for one Autobot lab experiment.
Fucking brilliant writing, that universe is beyond fucked, all they had was some neat easter eggs and that's it.
Shut up, Boco. Goddamn, it.
>bayformers overrated
>unpopular opinion
choose one
you're free to list the rest
Yes sir...
never heard any of these opinions before. You madman!
Get taste, holy shit
Trans and gay transformers should have never been a thing.
>Marvel Transformers comics are underrated but also not too great either.
>Budiansky is the best at world-building as far as the Transformers franchise goes.
>IDW isn't that bad, just had some of the highest highs with the lowest lows compared to other Transformers comics.
>Transformers vs GI Joe wouldn't have been as good without Scioli's distinct art style.
>Decepticons are the villains of the franchise.
>Humans characters are nice to have around.
>mutants in the sewers
Croc?
Prime was pretty forgettable and nothing from it needs to be brought back except maybe Arcee's design.
This is probably less "unpopular" and more "uncommon", but Death's Head will always be a Transformers character. Marvel is just borrowing him.
IDW need to stop trying to pretend that Windblade was one of the original 1984 Autobots.
>Budiansky is the best at world-building as far as the Transformers franchise goes.
How would people react if some of the Roberts/Barber world-building ideas started appearing elsewhere, or if it was all dropped and never used ever again?
The Windblade push is probably more Hasbro than IDW.
This, except with Arcee. Nothing against Arcee, but it does suck that the G1-based stuff doesn't have her much with the '86 guys anymore.
>How would people react if some of the Roberts/Barber world-building ideas started appearing elsewhere, or if it was all dropped and never used ever again?
I can see either happening, depending on the idea, and I'd be okay with it. Roberts' stuff is more likely than Barber's if only for the amount and how relatively easy it'd be to place elsewhere. In any case, it'll be either apathy, aversion, or delight, depending on what it is.
>saying this in a thread about unpopular opinions
This and also Jack. I ship those two so hard. I’d be okay with this.
If ever thre was a chad Virgil image that would be it
>Better alt mode
>Better colors
>Iconic cannons
>Bull asthetic
>That kino high way chase
>How would people react if some of the Roberts/Barber world-building ideas started appearing elsewhere
Did you watch Cyberverse?
Like I like G1 Ironhide, but the Movie version outclasses him in every way. Even if you hate the Movies, Ironhide is one thing worth defending.
unpopular doesn't always necessarily mean shit or wrong opinions. but this time I guess it does if someone unironically thinks Prime's design is better than Soundwave's timeless robot mode design
Opinionated opinion
Neon is better than drab tones
Primus is a fucking retarded concept, and the Thirteen Primes is even more retarded than Primus; the thirteen should've been the Primes from thirteen generations, not just robot Olympians.
Quintessons are cool but they really need a more eldritch portrayal to be cemented as only slightly superior than cybertronians.
Everything about the IDW comics is bad. Everything.
Six Phasers are shit and shafted Blue Bacchus just to make one of the most nonsensical and awkward trios in TF history.
CHUG is pretty good, I don't get the need for MPs.
Movie designs make pretty good toys.
Normal Beast-era Predacons should get a chance in fiction other than just Dinobot, BW Megatron was an outlier and a criminal.
>the thirteen should've been the Primes from thirteen generations
Pretty surprising that this option isn't used more often.
>Everything about the IDW comics is bad
Opinion discarded
The wreckers trilogy is flawless
I unironically agree with your last three points.
>Third and second parts
>Flawless
I didn't hate them, but no.
>The wreckers trilogy is flawless
"No!"
>Everything about the IDW comics is bad. Everything.
You got something again Zama, Figueroa, Guidi, and Roche's artwork?
>Not including Milne.
Why?
Their transformers look ugly.
I like Guidi, though. In G1 Marvel.
>everyone must have pointy witch noses, triangular plates, and tron lights
Because he is shit.
Milne's gotten shit on before for, mostly from those critical of MTMTE. I didn't want to give easy targets. The whole list for me would've also included Pitre-Durocher, Milnne, and I really should've included Su.
Honestly, Milne fembots are the best, even the Bayformers ones. I'll expand, Milne made Bayformers look awesome. And yes, Pitre-Durocher and Su are fantastic as well.
Nah, Milne is good. No one gives him enough credit.
The japanese continuity is mostly shit and hasbro/idw/western fans don't owe it shit.
If characters get co opted its for the best
Figueroa's transformers looking ugly more likely had to do with IDW going with that weird pseudo-Bayformers aesthetic. Also, Guidi did a Marvel issue?
Yeah, Milne is a solid artist and his layouts are also really good. I'd say a lot of MTMTE's storytelling owes a lot to that than he's given credit for.
So what would a Michael Bay directed ROM or Micronauts movie look like?
>>Both g1 and bayformers are pretty overrated despite some good designs and some great comic tie ins
But that's a popular opinion. People like the Gen 1 cartoon because its fun but nobody thinks it's not objectively terrible.
>>Beast wars is better
Popular opinion
>>Cyberverse looks absolute shit especially the toys, but that might change with the release of sky-byte and jetfire
Also popular opinion
>>IDW comics suck
Again popular opinion
>>Bolt bots is trash fuck them
The only thing you've said in your entire post that matches the subject
>I'd say a lot of MTMTE's storytelling owes a lot to that than he's given credit for.
Couldn't agree more. Even if you didn't like the story, it was worth it on art alone.
I don't know but I know this for sure. Michael Bay is the best director possible for a Metal Slug movie.
Despite being an obvious toy commercial, I still think that the 86 movie is peak Transformers. I really liked the new cast, animation was pretty decent, great vocal performances, best soundtrack (both by DiCola and the rock songs) and Unicron was only really done justice by Orson Wells.
Hot Rod also gets way too much shit for killing Prime, and I actually liked the third season more than the first two for doing something different. Also Galvatron>Megatron. There, my shit taste exposed.
>Galvatron>Megatron
Bold opinion and appreciated. I don't know how to feel about that but everytime I hear the name Galvatron, I feel like shit just got real and Megatron ain't playing around. If anything, IDW helped devalue that name since it used to impose terror.
From what I've gathered most people haven't
PSA: It's on YouTube for free. It starts weak but gets better. It's decent at worst.

The worst thing about Cyberverse... is the toys!
Shows fine!
Thank you user. I like Cover B, most likely how Bee will look in Siege.
>That Bee & Windblade
My Heart.
>Bumblebee and Windblade just chilling out and being friends.
I want more of this, Transformers having actual friendships.
Cyberverse is honestly the best Windblade has ever been, followed by RIDs version, then everything else, then finally at the end is Machinma
Thank you.
>you are a fucking potato
>she is patient, caring and does her best to get you to remember your life
>you mean that much to her
>not even a romantic thing, just true friendship
It's beautiful.
Okay, that top bit with Bee is super sweet. Never realized how much I wanted more things like this in Transformers. .
Honestly, I just love all these designs, If these were made the 'standard' designs for these guys, I wouldn't complain one bit.
I wish they were this expressive in the show but maybe it'll be better in the second season.
The first season was that studios very first action show after all.
And they did a pretty half-decent job, I'm eager to see them improve
the voice acting also elevated everything, by having the VAs act at the same time in the same room to bounce off each other, improvise, and develop the characters.
Beastformers will always be more interesting than robots that turn into fucking cars
>CHUG is pretty good, I don't get the need for MPs.
I actually feel pretty collection-complete with my CHUGs, after the headmasters from titans return I didn't feel the need to add more.
that being said the Beast Wars MPs have me feeling like I'm 9 all over again.
This is a reboot? So I don't have to follow that stupid multi tie Hasbroverse thing they were trying to push any more? Is it any good?
Reboot. Still not out until next month. I think.
So now that its Friday over in America, when do we start up the Weekend thread?
Grimlock and the Dinobots need more love and more stories about them committing war crimes with Optimus Prime's tacit approval.
Fuck them being a combiner team, though. That's shit dumb, always and forever.
ME GRIMLOCK NO HEARD OF GENEVA CONVENTION
Having grown up during the post-G1 era, to me, Gary Chalk is the more iconic Optimus.
It helps that up until Cullen was asked to reprise his role as Optimus for the 2007 movie, Chalk had been a voice for Optimus Prime for far longer, as the entire Unicron Trilogy spanned six years, and that's not even counting his tenure as Optimus Primal from Beast Wars and Beast Machines, from 1996-2000. Heck, he even got to voice Optimus Prime himself... for one scene in one episode during BM, granted, but even so.
Compared to Cullen's four years as G1 Optimus up until that point, Chalk was around as Optimus, both Primal and Unicron Trilogy Prime, for far longer.
I like Cullen, don't get me wrong, but I didn't grow up on him. I grew up on Gary Chalk's Primal, and got to hear his voice again as Optimus Prime when Armada debuted, up until Cybertron ended.
Gary Chalk is MY Optimus Prime.
When Cullen inevitably croaks, I hope they let Chalk step back into the role, instead of just getting a Peter Cullen soundalike.
Got my math wrong; he'd been Unicron Trilogy Prime's voice for FIVE years.
Still, that's a year longer as Optimus than Cullen, even if you discount his absence from the show following the 1986 movie.
>Inevitable Siege Bumblebee right on the cover, yet Hasbro still hasn't revealed him
You're so brave stating WIDELY PARROTED OPINIONS ABOUT TRANSFORMERS.
He's... Fine. I don't hate him, but I find the all black color scheme and just, "I got muh guns," personality to be kinda flat edgy military guy.
He's not bad, the design is fine. OG is just a red military guy with a thicker Texan accent and he has a red van mode.
I feel like the red is more striking, their personalities are interchangeable, the original voice is more fun to me, the big guns on movie Hide are cool.
Basically, they're fine? The original's flaws are that he's an antiquated design and character from the 80's, the Bayverse one has the flaws of being a Bayverse character.
Mike, I get it, you really don't like G1. Its fine.
Oh, I like G1, I just didn't grow up on it. Is Mike some kind of super Beast Wars or Unicron Trilogy sperg?

>I like Bayformers

I appreciate your honesty. Yes, red is a striking color and the black on Movie Ironhide makes him look a bit like Trailbreaker.
Cykill has a cooler sounding voice than Megatron
>It's just a leap of faith.
>WHAT'S UP DANGER?
>youtube.com
This is what happens if you let Japs design transformers unsupervised.
Rippersnapper needs to put a goddamn shirt on.
And Blot should at least put on shorts or a skirt if they’re going to wear a onesie that tight.
Megatron can also transform into a giant dildo
Much appreciated! Now I need a Rippersnapper.
(And a Hun Gurr to complete Abominus.)
Tentacles?
Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime >>>> Optimus Prime
ditto dude, ditto. I met Garry at TFCon last year him and David Kaye both. Meeting my childhood Prime and Megatron VAs meant a lot to me.
The combaticons are the only good combiner team
Take your gijinka shit back to
How about this, then?
You fucks spam that shit every transformers thread
Honestly, user, stop replying, user posted the gijinkas and fucked off, now you keep replying and it continues.
What he says is true though, almost every single transformers thread someone posts those ban pictures like they're the greatest thing ever made.
You are not wrong. Though they take minimal space and rarely derail threads. But they are posted every thread...
I don't know what to think about it. It could be spam but at the same time largely ineffective.
I can ship it.
Friend'ship, but sure.,
Swerve ended up being the best minibot.
>wasn't involved in any forced romantic subplots
>wasn't killed off for shock value (pipes) or dramatic effect only to miraculously come back solely for the character development of others (chromedome, cyclonus, and arguably whirl)
The main reasons people dont like him are because of his logorrhea, something he can't control, and his treatment of Ten. He did in the end realize he was a dick to Ten and started treating him as he should.
And even if he didn't get a romactic subplot, he was close to ending with best girl, so yeah, he's the absolute winner here.
Velocity.
It's still surprising to see how quickly fans turned on him in season 2. He was pretty well loved towards the beginning of MTMTE and then suddenly it became acceptable to hate him and everyone turned. I guess Roberts not giving him a decent character arc and having him be kind of a dick through most of season 2 didnt help but the hate he gets still feels undeserved.
Unpopular opinion: The Sunbow Dinobots are more entertaining than any of the comic versions.
>Rescue Bots is one of the better Transformers shows
The MTMTE fandom is like the RWBY fandom
Do one thing or don't push their ship and they'll turn on you
The cast of the book becoming obsessed with human television and movies was one of the more annoying parts of season 2, and along with that Back to the Future issue, the Swearth story was the one of the most self-indulgent moments, and it was the last time he really mattered to the book. It's not fair for people to start blaming him for that story, or start seeing him as the embodiment of everything wrong with the series, the way they would for Anode in Lost Light, but it happened, and just doing something, anything with him could probably have stopped it.
>Beast wars is better
I like it, but it's not the alpha and omega. Wished though it got more lights on it more often. G1 gets shitton non-stop, but Beast Wars seems to be barely acknowledged. At least Japan remembers it exists...also Uprising wasn't enough and I think Hayato Sakamoto is the best choice for Beast Wars.
Why did Roberts make Swerve act so badly towards Ten anyway? He was a prankster, yeah, but he never out right treated anyone like shit before. It seemed out of character. The guy was so lonely you think he would of loved someone like Ten.
Why did this happen? Like, I agree with you on this, but why is it that they get all the combiner spotlight while everyone else is forgotten about (except for Devastator)? Just imagine how great the other combiners and their components could be if they got their chance to shine:
>Seawing is a 3spoopy5me jumpscaring dickhead
>Nautilator just fails at everything
>Rampage is violent and hyperactive and can only be calmed down by watching fucking Tom & Jerry
>Piranacon is so autisticly devoted to hunting that he has to be put on a timer
>Afterburner is so hyper-aggressive that he makes fucking Slag look decent
Okay, so I forgot that the other pre-movie scramble combiners and Monstructior (and some of their component bots) all got some panel time semi-recently, but the point is, where the fuck are the rest of the combiners? Are the likes of Computron and Abominus just going to never have appearances in media just because they're not Bruticus or Devastator?
Introducing a squad of 5 or 6 characters at once, it's rare that more than 1 or 2 get much real characterization, and most of them never get to display any of the personality suggested by their filecards. The Autobot combiners don't seem to get a lot of focus often unless they're specifically being used to counter a Decepticon combiner. The Constructicons appeared early enough in G1 that you might expect them to be the exception where they're all well-developed characters, but the cartoon did a better job with the Combaticons in just 3 spotlight episodes. IDW using the Stunticons as losers who were always easily defeated, even as Menasor, was a poor decision, as was killing Blot, Nautilator and 3 of the Technobots before they ever got to combine.
>doing something, anything with him could probably have stopped it.
Several of the scrapped plots that Roberts has mentioned seemed to involve Swerve in one way or another. It's too bad he got sidelined as hard as he did.
Well he didn't think Ten had any free thought at first. It's not like we're very nice to our coffee machines when they're not working as intended. He shaped up as soon as he realized Ten was actually alive.
I've seen the Gary Chalk rant so many times from him and its just... Like for a guy that, "Doesn't hate G1," he sure does bitch about how much he doesn't really like it.
Well said. If they didn't fuck up the scaling that movie would be perfect.
Bioformers ?
I've always found it odd that even Menasor doesn't get much use despite being one of the first combiners.
I feel like people that bitch about too much G1 are more of a problem than geewunners.
Like I've gone on rants about how antiquated the old toys are and how its been really nice to see updated versions of old characters, and yet I'll get accused of being called a geewunner. Like ok, I'm sorry that I like that Elita 1 finally got a retail release toy?
I don't want everything to be G1, but like also we don't have much going outside of that.
> G1 is antiquated and shit, but its from an era that is nothing but that
> Beast Wars is genuinely good
> Beast Machines is... weird
> RiD01 is a bit of a mess and mostly recycled molds
> UT is like 2/3 garbage. Armada is fine, but the rest is just shit.
> Animated is... People love it, but I think its shit.
> Rescuebots is for kids
> Prime was basically fine, but also deeply flawed
> RiD15 is shit
> Cyberverse is... I can't even bring myself to bother
What we really need is a red-colored version of Bayformers Ironhide to show up in a show.
The only thing holding that back is Ratchet, literally. They can always remold Ironhide into Ratchet and viceversa.
>as was killing Blot, Nautilator
God, that still kinda annoys me.
"I killed a couple of guards for fun."
"Anyone important?"
"I genuinely cannot tell them apart."
—Arcee and Prowl, casually discussing the deaths of Triggerhappy and Blot
"Please! I surrender! Don't shoot!"
"That is uncanny! Has anyone ever—?"
"Megatron, yes, I know! Just don't shoot!"
"Okay, you be Megatron, I'll be Prime. "You who are without mercy, now plead for it?" Wait wait wait. Try again: "You who are without—" Not deep enough. "You who are—" How can anyone's voice be that low? Ah, frag it."
—Nautilator and Whirl, just before Whirl shoots Nautilator in the head.
>Hey guys Arcee killed some guys and can't tell them apart and Whirl just killed someone who was unarmed and surrendering because he couldn't do an Optimus voice they're so edgy and cool lol amirite guys?
I wish he would. The idea of a combiner being completely batshit because his components all hate each other is pretty awesome.
They did that and it looked ok.
What were the scrapped ideas? I don't keep up with his interviews
Hmm. If it were a darker red it would look better. Maybe a burnt red.
>>Hey guys Arcee killed some guys and can't tell them apart and Whirl just killed someone who was unarmed and surrendering because he couldn't do an Optimus voice they're so edgy and cool lol amirite guys?
It's even worse when it deprived the comics of ever introducing Abominus or Piranacon, and all 3 of them should be fun minor villains if written like their filecards.
Whirl and Arcee go on to survive the IDW continuity, and get happy endings. Spike survived as well. How did anyone think that was a good idea?
I mean, I honestly like Whirl and I'm glad he got a "happy" ending. I'm just pissed because Nautilator is one of my favourite characters, even if he's never really contributed anything to the franchise. I agree that Spike and Arcee surviving is bullshit, though.
Can't remember everything off the top of my head but he was supposed to be part of the "The Lost Light builds a phase sixer" plot that eventually got scrapped when Megatron joined the cast. He and Tailgate were supposed to have more of a inseperable duo situation early on too, though its hard to tell if that would have boosted his popularity (and by extension, story relevance) or tanked Tailgates.
Oh yeah, I remember that. According to tfwiki:
>Before "season 3" of his comic was truncated to 25 issues, James Robert's intent was that Quickswitch would be an artificial Phase Sixer created by the marooned crew of the Lost Light with scavenged supplies of ununtrium and a spark, in what might be a callback to Prowl's plan to create "Autobot Phase Sixers" as seen in the earliest issues of More than Meets the Eye. [1] .This Quickswitch would have been a pacifist.
Apparently Roche wanted to use him too:
>Nick Roche's story for Quickswitch was that he was an unaligned civilian who was critically wounded by Prowl's false-flag bombing operation in Carpessa, as seen in Sins of the Wreckers #3. His multi-changing body was a massive life-support machine built around his fatally wounded inner robot. A robot based on Quickswitch ultimately did make an appearance in the final scene of Requiem of the Wreckers, but owing to the discrepancy created by Visionaries, Nick Roche later decided it was Sixknight.
And despite all that, all he got was a fucking cameo in TF vs. Visionaries.
Bayformers 2007 is better than Bumblebee
It's no Rescue Bots, but still better then every other show for toddlers
>tailgate and swerve were going to be best friends
I'm pissed this didn't happen.
Swerve was going to end with Velocity. That pisses me most. Best girl with best mini-bot.
Hell megatronngot to fly off ibto the syn set with his new family
Mean while optimus got a back handed eulogy from some who he pretty much just met and hardly knew
So is dotm
It felt like they were somewhat being set up towards the end but when questioned about them being a couple Jro gave a hard "Absolutely not." I'm still a bit disappointed about it because they were pretty cute together and he wasn't so harsh about the many other couples fans asked about.
Yeah, what's his problem.
Man, I at least get Nautica since she was the first to show up and already said she wouldn't be paired, but if that was the case, he shouldn't have written a moment where Velocity seemed to show some interest in Swerve. It feels unnecessary, especially with how things turned out.
>Never ever.
giant robots are stupid
The fact that he ended up pretty lonely is what gets me. Really sucks it went that route.
It doesn't even make any sense, he was a bartender! He should have enough social skill. We can always pretend they ended together in the other universe, or at least close friends who kept in touch.
I’m still not sure what Roberts was going for with his character arc, or lack of
>befriends tailgate and gets ditched in favor of cyclonus
>befriends skids and gets ditched in favor of rung/getaway/nautica
>rest of the crew teases him repeatedly
>eventually almost dies from robo-depression
>rest of the crew cries that they’re sorry and that they totally do care about him, really!
>goes back to being teased again by the next issue
>skids dies, any relationship development with velocity is thrown away
>finally meets misfire and they hit it off, but the series ends before much can come of it
What’s the lesson here? That no matter what you’ll end up alone and the only time people pretend to like you is when you’re dying? Out of the original cast Swerve got one of the least satisfying conclusions.
The nips should be allowed to make another series. This time with a studio that actually cares in charge so it's not shit (you know which one).
I need a fucking drink. Jesus.
And Blurr fucking died.
Make it two.
>It felt like they were somewhat being set up towards the end
Haven't gone through the comics yet myself, but that sounds just like what happened with Arcee and Jack in the Prime series.
They were like an inch from becoming a couple, but then the writers clearly got cold feet and their character development never took that last step.
It's infuriating because they were clearly going for that angle during the show. My headcanon is that they did end up together in the end.
Yeah, you would have to be pretty blind not to see it.
That last part is what gets me the most. I can get having no romantic relations, but not even close friends? That's harsh.
Swerve would've been better off a minor character at this rate. Having relationships and his loneliness being built up to have him still be lonely just doesn't work on a narrative level.
>That no matter what you’ll end up alone and the only time people pretend to like you is when you’re dying?
Just like life.
>not even close friends? That's harsh.
That's sad. Yeesh. I don't know what happened to Roberts.
Swerve at the very least deserved a few close friends in the end. Wasn't that the whole point of Swearth?
Sad. And yes. I guess.
>Even with half a face she's a precious thing.
Friendship doesn't come in big moments, but takes effort to maintain. It's easy to say "You're my friend, I care about you", when there's a neonsig the size of a planet pointing at the person in trouble. But if those are the only moments you pay attention, yeah, that's no real help, no real friendship.
Also, I genuinely believe that end was supposed to be a bad end, to have the audience root for the adventure to continue.
>I genuinely believe that end was supposed to be a bad end, to have the audience root for the adventure to continue.
That makes it less depressing.
Really, almost all those endings are bad ending in disguise. Even if you shipped Drift and Ratchet, the series ends with Ratchet's death, and Drift being alone and a-drift. Nautica's famous for writing her memoires, but that means she's still stuck in her past, like an open wound, Megatron was executed off-screen, and Rodimus is a loser playing second-fiddle on Thunderclash's adventures. etc, etc, etc. It ends with Rodimus telling himself that that is good they don't know whether they succesfully recreated the accident, , because that way, they can always pretend it did. He needs the idea that there's another version of him living another life, how depressing is that? It's designed in a way, that the reveal that there ARE in fact other versions of our beloved characters still running around, but with a black slate future, comes as a RELIEF, as something to be preferred over what was told.

New game plus, basically, to get the true ending.
>bayformers
>overrated
That would require people to think that Bayformers is good
>Both g1 and bayformers are pretty overrated despite some good designs and some great comic tie ins
G1 was about what you would expect from an '80s toyline-based cartoon. BUT the visual designs for the characters were excellent, as was often the case with toylines. they had to look good in order to sell units. as with gi joe, the marvel comics were a lot more intelligently written than the show.
i do feel like it's always good to pay homage to what came before and build on it with new versions instead of just scrapping it. i know younger fans don't like hearing nostalgiafags saying the original was best, and realistically, it wasn't, but we still wouldn't have what we have now without the original so it bums me out to hear fans shitting on everything from the original. there was some great iconic stuff and it just needs to be built up into something more meaningful in new versions.
Oof.
Sounds like a real headcase.
I like Cullen's Optimus, and learning the story behind how the voice came to be via DVD extras for the Transformers movie made me like him even more. I can understand why he's as iconic as he is, and why folks dig him, for sure.
Despite that, Gary still holds a place in my heart I can't really explain without looking like a sperg, you know?
Ron Perlman voicing Primal in that Machinima trilogy was... an interesting choice, but I feel like they could have easily gotten a hold of Gary to reprise his role as ol' Big Bot, since they managed to snag Cullen during the tail end of that mess..
For once I agree with you, deaths head might be the best oc to come out of transformers and he's a strong enough character to hold up in his own series.
Geoff Senior was the best artist transformers ever had, with guidi as a close second.

Garry has never worked in the US, that's most likely why they didn't bring him back.
That said Garry did approve of Ron Perlman's Primal. He apparently once played golf with him.
Not really an unpopular opinion on Yea Forums but I cant stand Tailgate as a character. He was one of the things that really brought MTMTE down and should have died when he was originally supposed to.
So, basically we need to get Cullen and Chalk on a golf-course?
Jesus Arcee if you needed a fork and a spoon you should have just asked
I would have loved a new installment where Optimus Prime and Megatron have a son
