Speedy Gonzales is racist

>Speedy Gonzales is racist
>Zorro is not
Unironically explain this shit.

Gonzales is not racist. Mexicans love that fast rat. It is only nobodies on twitter pretending to have a moral compass since their life is boring and without meaning that complain about that character.

Zorro was white

This. If Speedy was offensive they'd omit him from Looney Tunes entirely. He was in The Looney Tunes Show with no issue. If anything, Slowpoke Rodriguez is the racist one.

Zorro was written by a white dude too. So technically Zorro is even more "racist".

I'm not baiting here, I just remember seeing complaints and just had this thought while watching looney tunes. Both are town heroes, both are cool dudes who don't take shit from anybody. To think there are people who are dumb enough out there to complain is just baffling.

It’s a weird situation with speedy because the entire joke with him is that he embodies the opposite of all the stereotypes associated with Mexico as demonstrated by all the other mice

Speaking of Speedy, did he ever appear in that New Looney Tunes show (formally know as Wabbit)?

Whites gettin offended for Mexicans doesn't count.
But you'll notice other Mexican-inspired characters don't get flack. It's obvious why he does by white liberals: the character's color is brown, which has to mean it's a racist stereotype

Actually slowpoke Rodriguez is considered based cause he carries a gun

I am not even gonna bother with that, but I saw what looked like a screencap while looking for my OP image so probably.

Yeah. Nobody who matters is actually offended by Speedy, and his temporary ban was the work of oversensitive whiteys.

Also it happened 20 years ago and nobody has tried to ban him since.

>the character's color is brown, which has to mean it's a racist stereotype
But would they prefer him to look more like Louis C.K.?

Ugh this show is sooo ugly. Even bringing back 2010 Looney Tunes Show would be an improvement.

Just one episode, Tweet Team.

Every Latino that I've talked to doesn't have a problem with it, me included. So fuck off OP.

best character

They'd prefer he doesn't exist at all. They look at shit solely through skin color and not what it means
Also maybe because he's notable so he's a easy target. I haven't seen much shit against Baba Looey despite also being brown and Mexican

Wew, he fast.

>finally getting the joke
Boy, I was innocent as a kid.

I'd say that the crows from Two Crows for Tacos and that other short would be considered way more offensive, though I personally find them hilarious

Speedy Gonzales is part of the Looney Tunes, which nowadays are more a corporate brand than actual characters. Corporate brands have to be full PC-friendly according to the market rules for adjusting to a global market, or at least that's what economist believe. Nevertheless Speedy is a corporate brand who happened to be a character decades ago so happened. It's still an awkward position but you don't learn everything in college.

Zorro was big among boomers but his brand has been devaluated not by PC culture but by entertainment moving on to bigger spectacles with humongous 100$ millions budgets and CG creatures. The last succesful Zorro entry was The Mask of Zorro and it was in 1998. There's a project with Gael García Bernal but for the leaks, it looks aimlessly trying to adapt the simple Scarlet Pimpinel model to the current franchise overbudget model.

Both Zorro and Speedy are irrelevant in the modern world but Speedy can still sell t-shirts and appear in commercials. That's the explanation

>trying to remove a character because it offends you even when people the character is “offensive” towards don’t give a fuck or even like the character
Tumblr was right, whites truly are the worst

The thing about Speedy Gonzalez is that, aside from occasional servitude in some shorts, he's not really a sterotype of mexicans in any way.

People tend to have problems with the side cast, but rarely with him.

Chad

It's a white people problem but not a "whites" problem if you understand. Not all whites suffer from this issue.

ITT: A bunch of people who don't understand why Speedy is slightly racist

This guy gets it. Speedy isn't an inherently racist character, it's more about the implication that a non-lazy Mexican is something exceptional.

I'm not even anti-Speedy, I think he's a fun character and can be easily divorced from the racist aspects of the old shorts. It just bugs me to see a whole thread discussing strawman arguments. Nobody has ever given a shit that he's brown.

That's not even the exact quote. He says that Speedy is going steady with his sister.

Wasn't the whole point of why he's speedy was so that he could cross the mexican border into the US without getting caught?

It's a main character, which means people will mostly empathize with him, probably putting themselves on a pedestal and blaming others for their problems.

but El Zorro was half mexican half spaniard, his mom was mejicana and his dad came from España, in fact he spent most of his life in España and came to California as a teenager, this was all during the time mejico was still a provincia from España. why would this be racist, do gringos really believe anything that is not from the united states is inherently racist because it comes from another country?

They do like the character though - not all of them obviously, but Speedy was very popular amongst mexicans and mexican-Americans when he was on air.

Mostly whites were offended

Right remember when some white people got mad that mario wore a sombrero and poncho in mario odyssey but when they askes Mexicans they liked it and saw it as positive representation

Something something evil white(?) colonizer.

youtu.be/bWPMMV4Z5ew will this also be considered rascist by randumbs in twitter?
