the way i think about it is that gender is like a nationality, it is based of the physical and geographical reality of being born at determinate coordinates and chances are you are going to belong to your country of origin for the rest of your life. but if you have enough money you can travel to other country, and if you bother to learn the language, the culture, the customs and the laws and do the correct paperwork you can get a nationality in any other country. sure you are not actually born from that other country but the law can recognize you as a citizen there. and sure, there will always be some tells that you are not biologically from there, an asian immigrant will never look like a white man, but if he speaks english and knows american culture and works there and pays his taxes then we can very well call him american
