I'm so fucking sick of the "b-but i'm not good enough to make my comic yet" meme keeping me from finally having a project I can call my own. These threads have inspired me to make something, don't care if it's shit or not.
Logan Jones
yesterday's comic. I think I'm gonna go back to using a regular pen as opposed to the textured one I've been trying to use these past few months
>If you couldn't do your story as a comic, which medium would you use? This is such a backwards question! As a kid I wanted to make video games, but had no idea where to go for resources on how to do that. Clueless adults kept telling me I needed to learn math, and I ended up all the way into AP Calculus and not once was a programming course ever offered at any school I went to. None of the normies in my life knew what kind of resources to provide for someone who had an interest in computers.
Comics are a medium that literally anyone can create in. There was literally NO barrier for entry so I started drawing. And drawing, and drawing, and finding books on how to do better, and eventually I just had developed enough interest and skill in comic-making that I wasn't interested in video games anymore. I got really into manga and started imitating what I saw in Ranma and Sailor Moon. And then when I got internet access, instead of finding tutorials on programming and game design, I discovered webcomics. And here I am!
>Alt Q: "I'd be happy if only ___ happened" You should elaborate on what this is supposed to be asking. Do you mean, what would make us happy as creators, or what would make our characters happy?
I've spent a lot of time cultivating info on an idea for a comic, but one road block I often come to is when I want to implement a concept that is fictional but posed as realistic. Like something crazy but almost believable? The road block is the idea, or maybe compulsion, that I need to do actual research on the subject before going further with it. Is this something other people deal with? I'd love to put the time into researching every little thing I want to make to create a realistic and in depth concept, usually something to do with sci-fi or similar, but I'm not sure if it's something that is worthwhile/necessary.
>If you couldn't do your story as a comic, which medium would you use? (book, game, movie/tv, etc) That's an easy one, video games. Specifically the other story I have about the robot fights. Also, here's Tiya and how she's gonna look in the remake. Don't think I'll keep that last name though.
It's not bad, though you need to make a link between the destitute immigrants and some whackjob with DinoDNA. My suggestion is that they signed the boy up for an experimental procedure, first human patient. They were pretty sure that it would help the kid, and they'd get paid a shitload of money anyway. Then shit goes wrong.
Brandon Kelly
>Do you mean, what would make us happy as creators, or what would make our characters happy? Yes. >You should elaborate on what this is supposed to be asking. I've been trying to keep some questions as open-ended as possible so that anyone can answer with whatever comes to mind without being restricted to their creator role (writer, artist) or their stories (plot, genre, characters, etc). There is no wrong interpretation of the question. So really the correct way to answer the question is entirely about what YOU want to talk about. Actually, this is why I tried to make sure there is more than one question when I do the threads. At least with a minimum of two questions there is a greater chance of piquing someone's interests and desire to respond.
If those types of questions are too open, I can try and keep them more restrictive in the future if that makes everyone more comfortable.
Brody Smith
>If you couldn't do your story as a comic, which medium would you use? (book, game, movie/tv, etc)
I would love to see Oni x Fox as an animated tv series! Making cartoons was always my main goal, really. Color Seekers on the other hand, I've always seen as an animated movie.
Also.... I sometimes like to imagine what it would be like to have a live-action Oni x Fox. I just think real life versions of the masks and characters would be so cool.... Haha.
When the wording is too vague it just makes me think whatever answer I came up with is missing the question.
Logan James
Sometimes I sketch extra stuff about my characters. Im unsure whether to actually draw or post this kind of stuff, to just post it like this since its not really important, or to just keep it for myself since its not important at all to the plot.
>Which medium would you use? I write novels. A Story Of Fire was originally intended to be one, but I decided to use it to practice and learn how to draw.
boy he mad
go for it. Im still faaaar from good but I have learned a lot I think.
i started without any prior knowledge on how to draw and i still made my comic anyway a year later i still dont know how to draw, oops at least its not as page as the first few pages anymore
Okay! I really like your input and that idea! Thank you so much!
Lucas Cox
I had another idea. Should he still be offered a chance to become a superhero under tutelage after reuniting with his loved ones, or is that just too Gary Stu-ish?
Yeah, I was thinking that his tutor would keep him from straying away. Say if a normie taunted him by whistling the Jurassic Park theme at him, his mentor would grab onto his tail to keep him from hurting anyone and thus teach him lessons.
I was thinking that his tutor would either be a heroine from S.H.I.E.L.D. or a mutant/mutate from X-Men. What do you think?
Gabriel Collins
Yes I had to do a decent amount of research for more realism, so if it's related to your world or world building you should research it
Isaiah Sullivan
It's ok no one really does
Ian Phillips
I'm more of a DC guy, so I'm looking at him kind of like Cyborg has been treated lately. If he were to be able to go back to his hometown, it'd have to be after he's been filmed being a hero and saving the day. So there's the assholes that will poke the bear and tease the metahuman, but most of them will greet him warmly, if be confused about how to deal with his condition.
Eli Ross
I'd be surprised if anyone didn't wish they could have a cartoon instead of a comic
Cooper Myers
hehehe, nice.
Josiah Clark
Alright! Thank you for the feedback once again! It’s great!
I’m can’t draw, so I’m more of a story guy.
James Hughes
when I was a kid, we didnt need a reason to mutate ourselves into velociraptors. we just did it. sometimes adamantium ones
Ayden Long
snickering.
Hudson Hall
Finished this page!
I forgot i wanted Cassie to be a daughter of the god of chaos so i adjusted the script of this page to reflect and reestablish that
I wouldn't. Not a big fan of how modern cartoons are treated by studio execs, to be quite honest. If I never get around to working on some of my stories as comics I'd rather turn them into crappy ebooks or some video game. Something I have pure creative control over.
Ah, I can see that being an issue. Sorry for making it frustrating for you.
I'll see what I can do to tighten up the questions in the future.
Hudson Morris
>Not a big fan of how modern cartoons are treated by studio execs, to be quite honest. this is a fantasy! you don't have to work in the reality of trying to make a cartoon in this day and age.
Christopher Edwards
Pretty gay, but cute.
Gabriel Sanders
Yeah, it’s a ridiculous plot, isn’t it? Do you have any feedback on how so can improve it? Please?
Oliver King
I guess my point was I'm still a kid inside so I won't criticize anything like that.
Dominic Evans
Oh, I see! I just thought that my plot as childish. Ugh.
Nicholas Brown
well the idea was for it to make fun of silly dumb cliche ideas, and the challenge is, can you make it good so.. i mean, sure? raptors are cool
Jeremiah Hughes
Yup. I kind of actually like the idea now, tho. What is wrong with me??
If you don't play it entirely straight but a little bit tongue in cheek instead, it can be amazing. I would make it more light-hearted though, I'd remove the racist angle from the MC and make it more into "holy shit I'm a fucking dinosaur" but he comes to accept himself for what it is and becomes a legit badass. Just watch 80s movies like Total Recall, if you manage to capture that kind of atmosphere and humor it can be great.
Isaiah Foster
I like to follow the example set by that Fonzie-esque Rugrats character and give the benefit of the doubt to anyone once they show the slightest inclination towards being cool, even a fucking baby that grabs and wears my sunglasses.
Easton Clark
That would be a good idea. I’ll have to think about that one! (Maybe add some dark elements and some more light-hearted ones, such as people bantering with him?). He loathes himself at first and is mistreated, but he begins to accept himself and he gets respect after he proves his worth? If you don’t like this idea, then I can’t blame you. Your idea is almost surely better than mine. Alright! Thanks!
But yeah, I should probably give your idea a go. Enough of this grimdark bullshit.
Ryan Hall
If you write intelligently you can deliver the same depth as grimdark without going grimdark
Jeremiah Edwards
>Thread question
My main aim is to eventually be able to produce animation of my own, the comic is merely a step to experiment with story telling and building up the skill to eventually be able to animate full fight sequences.
So yeah, if I couldn't create the comic I'd aim to pitch a cartoon and refine my writing to be able to achieve it.
Once again, thank you all for the feedback! It’s amazing!
Aiden Cooper
Super secret tip to improvement >Work on your project >Have your anatomy books / reference at hand >Draw until you find a problem >Put the project aside and solve the problem the best you can using the learning material >Use the study you made on the project >Rinse repeat
Xavier Sanders
>they say the best way to write is draw inspiration from your own life >character needs to go through something sad for development, so you think about something similar that happened to yourself that you want a character to go through (but of course in a more dramatic way) >start breaking down just thinking about your own sadness
that's literally what ive been doing doesnt mean ill learn to draw instantly overnight
Jason Bell
are there any good books for animals and realistic anthros?
Brayden Sanchez
>animals cant go wrong with Zagrobelna design.tutsplus.com/series/how-to-draw-animals--vector-21311 >anthros try to combine each feature of the animal with that of a human, and think about how they can move and live and shit. like a braincase big enough for an intelligent brain
Jordan Johnson
The other guide I saved doesn’t, but I do have framed ink and in the back I saw Animals real and imagined, Science of creature design and Principles of creature design all by Terryl whitlatch I don’t have them though, so I can’t tell you about them
is she wearing a magnifying glass over her lower face, causing it to be comically enlarged? Also, are her boobs a 3? I would read a comic about people whose boobs are numbers. I'm not trying to discourage you, you're in a familiar place artwise.
Lincoln Walker
Yea look, you've taken your shot.
A reminder as to why not to show my shitty drawings on Yea Forums. Have a goody.
Angel Lee
Well now I feel like a jerk. And I went to the trouble of making sure you didn't think I was having a go. Just riffing on your self-deprecation, since you were saying it doesn't exist. I mean it, you're at a stage lots of artists are. I can tell you're putting work into it, and you're going to get good with some more, different work put in. We can help, too. Anyway what's it going to be about? She looks like some kind of cool ninja warrior or maybe a postapocalypse survivor.
Mason Adams
>What books do you recommend user? Some people on ./ic/ might disagree with this but I think the best thing you can do is start with How to Draw by Scott Robertson and figure out basic perspective. I recommend actually buying the book, it comes with an app that you can use to scan the pictures and get video lessons that explain everything really well. It's kind of a painful way to start because perspective is "technical" but once you understand how an ellipse works then you can move to Fun With a Pencil and it's going to be really easy to draw the basic faces there, that method is how 99% of cartoons are made, ball and cross. Your objective is to learn how to draw 2 point pespective and basic cartoons.
Then you get ONE anatomy book, Bridgman's Complete Life Drawing, Hampton, Loomis's Figure Drawing for What It's Worth, whatever you are more comfortable with, and keep that book handy when you draw. You're going to draw, say, an arm in your comic and you'll wonder what is wrong, so you take the book and look at the arm and check the anatomy. Also get a proper anatomy atlas, there's a lot of apps and online things you can use, just make sure it's medical level accurate. When there's something weird like, idk, a woman leaning back and stretching all her abdominal muscles, you just use reference (even porn if necessary) but always with the anatomy atlas at hand. You have to understand how the muscles shift when moving. I never copy the reference directly, I just look at it and then repeat the structure.
I have Animal Anatomy for Artists by Eliot Goldfinger but most of what I learned was from google searches and looking at animal footage on YouTube. Search "[animal] footage", you can even slow down the videos so you can study the motion of the animal. Also Aaron Blaise's channel. I personally think anthros need a bit of cartooning, if you just slap an animal head on a person it's going to look awkward, unless you want it to look mythical.
Anthony Brown
>if you just slap an animal head on a person it's going to look awkward, unless you want it to look mythical. God I hate when people do that. Now, sometimes, there's not that much to anthropomorphize about an animal's head before it becomes unrecognizable. Like in some art styles, if you make a wolf snout too short, it's just kind of a bear. But you have to at least try something. I was just thinking how I could draw some kind of treatise on the treatment of top-mounted animal ears on furries with expanded crania. It's important to me that the placement of the eustachian tubes be kept in mind, even if you're drawing some stick figures, and yet the geometric aesthetic of cat or rabbit ears right on top is so undeniable and irresistable...
James Myers
its not like he called you an idiot. grin at the silly comments and say thanks and post more pictures when you have them, thats how its done.
Daniel Foster
Yeah but you're allowed to have hurt feelings. I could have phrased that impromptu roast better. I'm no Don Rickles.
Camden Walker
pfft, the reviews ive received in newgrounds' heyday would be considered a date raping compared to what you wrote.
Christian Thomas
Just cartoon it man, rule of cool always wins as long as you're intelligent about it. You can do long snouts but they're hard to draw and you give up on acting potential. Check the concept art for Robin Hood, Robin had a very long snout much like Nick in Zootopia, but they changed it because it was goofy when the character was acting.
Gabriel Hill
Indeed. I miss the old internet, but at the same time I miss Yea Forums's gushy lovey gushing love. I feel like there's room for both. maybe at the same time Ooh that might be worth looking up. I always felt like those were the perfect furries.
Jayden Taylor
Off-topic, but is there a pastebin where I can post a storyanon’s amazing greentexts from another thread? I will have to also give them full credit if they come forward.
Jaxson Smith
wow pretty good. gruesome but good
Anthony Roberts
Ah, It's been a struggle learning to compose panels and so forth. Curious for critique/etc on the first few pages of this comic? These are all sketched, with values blocked in for mock-up purposes.
looks like a good scene to me. There's a nice sort of symmetry, the camera turns back on its initial rotation is that meant to be a shepherd's crook, though? because unless there's another kind I'm not familiar with, you kinda messed it up. you couldnt hook much with that
James Young
2/4
The first page was a flashback, I hope the transition/dialogue makes it clear?
it's close to what you drew, except eliminate the first bend. make the whole thing a big J. J for Jesus! Our shepherd and all that. (except usually a little extra curl at the end, just like you drew, so not a perfect J)
Mason Kelly
4/4
Keeping the character faces on model/consistent has been an issue.
Perhaps so. The first draft confused people, nobody understood the flashback, but maybe it's a little hamfisted now, with dialogue.
thanksss yea based julia holter is the name I had to learn how to draw planes for this and they're quite fun
Jacob Ramirez
everyone's favorite flashback trope is having the screen go all watery, i say fuck subtlety when it comes to that. lead the audience by the finger when it comes to basic stuff about the flow of time in the story being anything but normal. there are things it's better for an audience to figure out on their own, but those are things like human motivation and tricks and secrets and lies yeah we need to get married is all I'm saying.
Jackson Robinson
I'm sorry but marriage is not based!
Asher Ross
You can't spell monogamy without moon, and that's where bases GO. on the moon.
Cameron Gutierrez
It's been three years. You can clearly draw, just get a writer if that's what's been holding you back.
Carter White
Wow! Those airplanes look great!! Is this for a new comic?
Logan Watson
some advice for newbies: asking for a review/critique is asking for someone to pick out all the flaws they can find. story flaws can be hard to fix and stressing over any may destroy your motivation to continue. only ask for these if you are fully prepared. probably better off just advertising if all you really want is just to know someone has read it.
Jayden Martin
Never mind! I found one!
Zachary Gutierrez
why the fuck am i drawing a porn comic. fucking kill me.
I'm a loser and I deserve bad things, maybe people don't read my comic because I'm a stupid shit with no creative thought
Aaron Sullivan
Mad Magic.
>If you couldn't do your story as a comic, which medium would you use? I tried Mad Magic as a novel, first person narration from Joy's point of view, very stream of conscious. I got so far at what's pretty much page 3/4.
>maybe people don't read my comic because I'm a stupid shit with no creative thought Nah, they're not reading it because there're billions of webcomics out there, and you need to work harder to get it noticed on all the possible platforms.
>couldn't do story as a comic the comic need to be done in my opinion. it would be considered as the "full story" as i'm exploring themes that keep my interest. otherwise i would be writing a novel, which would be unfortunate as the story is very visual. if i want to see it adapted to a different medium, i would love to see it as a 2D animated film that's cut to its simple premise and somehow combine part 1 and part 2 without making the film too long... or maybe an OVA style with a few eps. i can also imagine it in live action, but in a weird surrealistic style that focuses more on atmosphere and with sensitive elements removed, or most of it.
so having our discussion from last time, I think I'll stick with having her be a University Student with a program to help Nina. seems like a better choice to be less formal and more experimental.
i feel like id have to redraw half of it. submitted it to /r/nsfw_comics and was downvoted.
Joshua Rodriguez
i upload my comic to /r/comics, webcomics, and webtoons and they never get upvotes. dont worry user even if youre good they will often get downvoted so other hacks can try to get theirs higher up. reddit sucks.
Eli Rivera
the sub looked so quiet, the previous post was 2 days ago, so i didnt think that was what would be happening. figured it was more how god awful the opening pages are skillwise. ill keep it in mind though, thanks.
Isaiah Morales
bump
Isaiah Sanders
Bump!
Jayden Davis
Post
Jackson Brown
think of the shittest porn comic youve seen here recently. thats mine;
ugh everything is pissing me off tonight. not a good mindset to try drawing new poses in...
Logan Edwards
I actually haven't started my webcomic yet, but I drew a character from it
How do I get better at making my own panels? By looking at a bunch of different comics?
Jonathan White
pretty much
Thomas Morgan
Studying other artist's work is by far the best. Scott McCloud's Reinventing comics and Understanding Comics also has a bit on comic panels that are fairly accessible.
I've got some links to tutorials and similar if you want to take a look: >pastebin.com/CuaZjdTN (I've bee working on the OP resources and those links are some I've managed to find. They might not be entirely helpful since I'm still working on sorting and weeding out)
Dylan Moore
What the other user said, when it comes i animation it's better to start asap. Fight sequences manly just come down to shot progression and can get away with more limited animation. It's the normal animation that's more difficult
Jace Phillips
I like this a lot but please don't end Magda prematurely!
Jaxon Ramirez
I'm not quite ready but i'm at a point to where I have enough pages in reserve to start thinking about making my own website
anons who have a website what issues did you run into and what advice would you give me? also any resources online you could point to where I could learn basic website coding and shit like that?
I have never personally worked on a webpage but for a college club a few guys I know made a website with WordPress. Apparently it's pretty straightforward… Also I've noticed that 90% of webcomic sites have the exact same layouts, only the design elements (arrows and such) differ, so there's probably some kind of complete template somewhere.
Michael Roberts
Thanks
Matthew Garcia
Yeah i've noticed that as well, I have to assume its all gotta be pretty simple right
finally someone thinks about magda :'( sorry it had to end for now because I can't afford to keep doing it with job and stuff, but it'll come back eventually!
Carson Gonzalez
can i get an estimate when you think itll be back again
Luke Long
Wordpress with Comicpress theme. If you need extra help, use ComicEasel instead, both made by the same guy Tumblr has a webcomic theme but absolutely no adult content. Regular content may also get flagged as adult content. Use at your own risk Squarespace with some custom CSS can work too Whatever you go with, try to make sure your comic is readable on desktop and mobile
>If you couldn't do your story as a comic, which medium would you use? (book, game, movie/tv, etc)
Most likely cartoon or game, maybe both. I drew up ideas for a Tom N Artie game before which would just be a side-scrolling shooter like Metal Slug.
> "I'd be happy if only ___ happened" I really don't know how to answer that. I've actually been a lil depressed about my work recently. Maybe it's because I'll be putting Issue 2 - 3 on Indiegogo and I'm worried it won't actually pull budget. I feel this weird identity issue too where I don't know if I classify as a webcomic or indie or something. Like I've got my comic up for free yet I still have people refusing to read it unless they've got it in their hands, I get the appeal but sometimes it urks me. It's like I've got a plan setup but at the same time I go 'what am I doing?!'
ah, a biker ninja from the motorcycle helmet clan! oh wait..
Aiden Campbell
you linked us your dashboard link, that only works for you
Brayden Smith
that might be pretty cool actually. Then she seems less unreasonable for refusing initially >Master, I am skilled in all aspects of gynecological medicine! Please let me-oof! just like a puppy
Blake Green
wait why does magda cost money to make plane comic doesnt?
Honestly I'd warn people more about the Simple Webcomic Theme than about the nsfw ban. You can, in theory, still see nsfw posts in dashboard view, but it's not guaranteed to work properly. There are also a number of goofy, broken workarounds that the pornbots have been using to keep from getting banned and they'd in theory work for a real user (until tumblr staff notices, which might be never). The issue with sfw content getting flagged was mostly because the neural network they set to mod posts was implemented before it got enough data to learn its job. I haven't had a random post flagged since late December.
The Simple Webcomic Theme, though...whoever made it really did the best anyone can do, but it's really not simple if you look at the code. It's got a lot of customization switches you can turn on and off but you can't go in and do real modifications without going into the html itself...and all that customization means you've got HUGE chunks of extra formatting that don't get used if you don't have them switched on. So when you want to insert sidebars or banner ads or whatever, it's a giant pain in the dick to figure out where they go.
What I did was figure out the absolute basic tricks that Simple Webcomic Theme was using to make a functional webcomic, and copied those over into a barebones theme with all the extra bits ripped out. And then with my own knowledge of HTML and CSS I just did what I wanted. Even then, there are a lot of quirks to Tumblr that aren't ideal. If you want a comments section, you either have to hope people reblog/reply from their tumblr dashboards, or install Disqus, which I think is ugly. Page navigation also gets a little broken if you try to page forward and back from within a tag instead of from the main blog url. And most recently, Tumblr stops you from saving your html if you have ANY http:// urls that you haven't changed over to https:// which isn't hard to fix but really annoying.
- Nearly complete control over your theme. If you know what you're doing you can load up on any kind of widgets you want and they'll work. I use statcounter, a twitter sidebar, I used to have Project Wonderful ads when that was still a thing, I've even seen people put little javascript games on their blog for no reason. You get this kind of freedom with your own website, and in theory you get it with Wordpress, but places like Tapas and Webtoons have a format you can't customize. (unless you can and I've just never seen anyone customize their Tapas)
- Multiple blogs managed by one account. I used to have my own site with a bunch of Comicpress archives and maybe I was just an idiot and didn't know how to rig it up, but it required me to have a separate installation of Comicpress for each comic. With Tumblr you have a dropdown menu of all your blogs and you don't have to log in separately to each. I can have my webcomics and my art blogs and any other blog I want all on the same account. You can also add other members into your blog (so long as it's a side blog and not the main for your account) for collaborative works and it's incredibly easy.
I used to also advocate for Tumblr's global search, because people could find you by searching 'webcomic' and you'd be slightly less screwed by bad SEO. But Tumblr search has been abysmally bad for years, lol.
Which part? The peeing fetish? Plenty people read porn and fetish comics. User submitted story? Homestuck started that way, and prequel still does it. Other?
Parker Cruz
is there a reason 90% of your scenes are just perfect flat faces? it seems you know how to draw but you don't want to make a dynamic scene
Zachary Powell
Other, the story presented
Nathan Wood
Looks great! Link to your site/store?
Alexander Martinez
You’re welcome. What kind of comic are the characters for?
Leo Thompson
...that starts off as a piss fetish.
Listen, if you want to do the comic just do it. What I skimmed of it didn't interest me, but that's not saying you won't find an audience for it.
Daniel Fisher
i can at least tell you the general designs are cute
Dominic Butler
that ungrateful kid does not understand the wonder of neo-geo he will soon learn
Chase Parker
I'll begin working on her Uni team then. couple memorable and likeable characters will ensue. this will be fun!
considering how easy it is making a bit of simple html in a wysiwyg editor, i'm amazed at how much trouble hosting sites have with their templates.
Jackson Young
honestly it didn't seem so fetishy, it was presented as an obstacle and nobody involved was aroused or reacted in any way differently from real life. it's not like stories about teenagers getting a huge zit on the night of the big dance is zit fetish
Joseph Murphy
Finished page. it took 16 pages but things are about to start ramping up
cool. Kinda getting vibes like that one comic ... what was it? the guy is a laborer in a kinda hell, and everyone in the comic is super abstract and monstery... anyone remember? Satan was a character and he was just like a big blank blob guy with long legs
Brandon Turner
link to the comic? you made a good atmosphere
Gabriel Ramirez
I have no idea what you're talking about but I would love to know also
Unfortunately I don't post this comic anywhere yet, still searching for a home for it at the moment
Isaac Martin
>Seek a writer All the writers I've met up to this point have gone through the same hassle with me, they pitch me ideas and I shoot them down because they don't seem interesting to me to draw them and state "It seems you already know what you want and I can't help you in any regard", and it's kinda true, I am very focused on what I want my comic to be I just haven't gone full out to do it.
Also, it hasn't been 3 years... hasn't it? Oh god...
Even if I don't get to finish anything or my comics fail and my animations never make it to something greater, I just enjoy the simple pleasure of crafting and drawing so as long as it gives me the income to live I don't really mind how far I get with it.
Fetishes don't need to show someone aroused to be a fetish as they are meant for the viewer to be aroused by the imagery. Take five minutes to look on devaintart's newest and you'll see a bunch of fetishes that aren't overtly sexual like tickle, hypnosis, foot, diaper, shame, the list goes on. They rarely show someone aroused, it's all about the fixation. There are even piss fetishists on there that like to show someone peeing in public or themselves and they'll have a terrifying amount of favorites from people with galleries full of the same themes. This is why I stopped using that site years ago. >zits Technically a cliche about teenager troubles used too often, but there are a lot of popping fetishists.
Usually the indicator for a fetish in a comic is when the creator fixates on something unnecessarily and either repeats it throughout the comic, or puts an excessive amount of detail in it. And as far as that thread goes, the creator had the MC piss themselves. Twice, from what I saw. And the story starts off focusing on the how the MC might piss themselves in the first post and title, meaning that was the intentional initial draw for the story. It might not be a duck in your eyes, but it's still quaking and waddling like one.
If it gets you off and is harmless then you do you as far as I'm concerned, but I'm not touching it
Aaron Ross
Right but it didn't seem fixated is my point. Come to think of it there are a ton of ducks that don't look like ducks to me. Those weird pointy-billed ones.
Owen Phillips
I'm curious. how, in your mind, would someone use the potty emergency in a story without it being seen as a fetish? is it just not possible anymore because fetishists ruined it? this didn't seem overly detailed, it was over quite quickly.
Lincoln Cook
I meant for the second time she pees herself to have symbolic meaning. It's a callback to her lowest point in the story that represents her failure.
The title is that because I thought it was funny.
I'm more surprised you didn't call the ear thing out though, that's way less defendable.
Camden Roberts
>ear thing not that guy, was there some oomox in there I missed? I only skimmed it
Logan Hughes
Yeah, it's the inciting incident for the lynch mob and there was another thread in which it spurred the meeting of the cosmic form of Elvis.
Adrian Martin
You have to ask yourself would YOU start the events of your story with your characters pissing themselves? What purpose does that act serve that couldn't be done with a different act? Why does it NEED to be that particular act? It might not be obsessive or what you'd call fixated, but it sure wasn't inconsequential for the creator. It was the entire premise of the story.
It's entirely possible, like a background joke, but in this case they used it as a starting point when literally any other embarrassing thing could have happened to them. Tripping, accidentally ripping clothes, sneezing snot on their crush, babbling incoherently, accidentally stuttering, accidentally hitting other person when gesticulating wildly, accidentally throwing something at them, running into them, or spitting when trying to talk to them. But instead they focused on pissing themselves. >it was over quite quickly The act, yes. Consequences and the fact it was brought up repeatedly continued.
>ear thing Didn't read the story in depth. Honestly taking a second look at it it just seems like vanilla-level foreplay. Not remarkable in my opinion.
You can argue all you want about whether you intended it to be a fetish or not, but with that title and as story that starts off that way you're going to find yourself with an audience with particular interests whether you like it or not.
Bentley Torres
>What purpose does that act serve that couldn't be done with a different act? Why does it NEED to be that particular act? I could ask you just the same, why does it need to justify itself? Girls have incontinence issues sometimes, and embarrassment is a major part of modern relationship issues since everything got messed up and just about ruined. Yeah it was the start, but it also only happened twice, and the second one was a callback to the first. I think twice is suspicious, thrice is almost confirmed, but once is nothing. I mean, do you think there's a writer on Bob's Burgers who has a fart fetish because part of Tammy's character is that, despite being a huge stuckup piece of bitch, she has embarrassing fart problems? Or do you think he just thinks it's funny and believable (or maybe it was the actress's idea, they improvise a lot). Occam's razor and benefit of the doubt make it a lot easier to enjoy media today, which is getting increasingly hard as it is without me starting to throw suspicion around.
Lucas Martin
that and UTIs. and periods. being a girl sucks
Elijah Russell
T. sour grapes tranny
Evan Miller
actually I was just thinking about that, it's weird more dudes still wanna be ladies than vice versa. I bet that'd be different if they had to get periods. I wonder if women resent the fake ones for not having to go through the real thing.
Dunno about "more". The term 'penis envy' is a thing afterall.
Leo Green
You know I've heard that phrase, usually as the punchline of a joke, but it has never occurred to me before it would refer to women.
Jack Long
I made it, lads. Some very nice women made a video about The Concord Initiative. They had some very accurate discussion of the Wiki-How art phenomena in comic making. I think they deserve a look, even if their show structure is still developing.
>why does it need to justify itself? That's a fair question to ask, but whether anyone wants to admit it or not there comes a point when you question the creator's motives behind their (odd) choices and there's a point where "I just wanted it that way" becomes suspicious of not being the whole reasoning. In this case I want it to be justified because the creator wants it to start their teenage-rebellion story, forcing the reader to make it past a cold start scenario where they try not to piss themselves in front of their crush. Why do I need to read this to get the rest of the story? Why is it so important that it needs to play out like this and not any other way? The creator saying they "thought it was funny" is a reason enough, but it makes the rest of the story sound like nothing other than pee-pee-poo-poo humor.
>I think twice is suspicious So we agree that the story is at least suspicious. Call back or not, they didn't need to wet themselves a second time, but they did. They put it in a spoiler 3/4 of the way through the thread, but it still happened.
>Bob's burger's and farts Not really the same thing. Farting is a normal bodily function, it always happens whether you try and control it or not. It's a staple of sophomoric humor because it's normal. I don't watch bob's burgers, but given your description of Tammy it makes sense that it serves as a contrast to the character. You describe her as being stuck up, which I assume naturally includes trying to be prim and proper and controlling of everything. Uncontrolled flatulence would provide both humor as well as a subversion of her character as it's something she can't control. It's justified. It can, of course, be a fetish but in this case it seems to be justified regardless.
Peeing is normal. However, pissing your pants is an oddly specific subject to choose to write about, no matter how you cut it.
Dominic Gomez
Alright I think I see your point now. The part that tips the scale is that the pants-peeing actually occurred, rather than just being a threat. and this being a quest, the author clearly had that in mind. I mentioned before a lot of girls have that problem, but I neglected to add "but they usually only pee a LITTLE and then they're able to stop" whereas an uncontrolled fountain is pretty solidly in either fetish or wacky comedy territory you should watch bob's burgers, dude. it is a good show.
Logan Lopez
>Farting is a normal bodily function this is reminding me of a reddit thread i stumbled across during bored web surfing. it was something like 'why is peeing ourselves considered embarrassing?'
Jaxon Evans
was it written by J.K. Rowling?
Eli Lee
What’s up with this bigotry?
>inb4 tumblr I used to go there for porn, but that’s it.
Christopher James
I think it's funny, whenever I make a strong, unabashed statement that, for lack of a sensible term, is "cisnormative," Yea Forums thinks I'm advocating trannies and/or am one. Somehow it backwardses itself, hard.
Blake Scott
Yeah, exactly this. I probably could have worded it better from the get-go, my bad. It's on my perpetually growing to-watch list, just haven't gotten around to it yet. I've heard a lot of good things about it.
Good god, that woman managed to ruin herself so much. How do you not have a filter that tells you not to add that to a kid's book series. Now every time I write something for backstory of my comic that's not explicitly said in the story I have to ask myself if it's pulling a rowling, in both the pandering and wtf sense.
It's bait, don't think too hard on it.
Parker Harris
>Good god, that woman managed to ruin herself so much. how is there so much jkr drama that ive completely missed?
Landon Jackson
I feel the opposite, it's not that she should have filtered it out, artists shouldn't have any shame. it's that if she wants to be super silly, she should embrace it, not treat it as something matter of fact that you should think of as sensible and part of history, AND just drop it as a lore-nugget outside of your published fiction.
i looked it up and its apparently referencing a time before plumbing existed and muggles used chamberpots. if anything this lends credence to the superiority most wizards felt, since they would be able to completely destroy their wastes, while muggles are throwing it out the window onto london streets.
Aaron Clark
I think most of the problem people have with that is A) she decided to drop this as a lorenugget, the same way she outed Dumbledore to cheers from fujos, and B) if you have the magic to clean up your own soiled pants, you have the magic to dissolve it from inside your bowels so other people don't have to momentarily see and smell it.
Juan Parker
well yeah it has flaws. but so too do a lot of magic things they do. "hey lets teleport somewhere, except if we make a slight mistake it could leave us horribly disfigured and dying"
Brayden Stewart
it's almost like harry potter is shitty fantasy undeserving of fame, and it should be lloyd alexander sitting on a bed made of million dollars bills.
Colton Kelly
Is this the best place on the site to discuss worldbuilding for storytelling, even if my story will be primarily told through writing with only about one or two illustrations per chapter?
Owen Evans
yeah we've had people asking this before, and decided that illustrated stories are close enough to comics that you're welcome here. Animation too. But whereas we have a few animators, so far nobody has posted anything for illustrated stories. not yet. Be the first!
Nolan Davis
Seconded. From what I've seen Yea Forums isn't exactly writer-friendly, so as long you're willing to take criticism I see no problem with posting for feedback here. Whatcha got, user?
Brody Flores
Honestly it would be downright refreshing to actually be able to discuss worldbuilding with a writer, whereas normally the answer is "that's great, but are you gonna actually draw a comic or just build the world?" with writing there's more excuse, you can actually have nice big lore dumps in the story.
Logan Barnes
it blew up more than it really should have for a magic system that makes little sense. but its still a fun YA series. nothing jkr has revealed in post has ruined it for me. cursed child can go die in a pit though.
Isaac Collins
Not to mention writers can just do things without being held back, if you have art involved you wind up with trying to figure out how much you're actually willing to draw a couple hundred times.
Justin Clark
yesss a new thingie! I'm looking to pitch this new thing to publishers so I can have some sort of income and then continue magda heh magda can't be printed unfortunately :(
Grayson Powell
My favorite thing about literature that will never be replaceable with art is the ability to describe something impossible to depict, something utterly without form or that makes no sense visually. I thought that might be what you meant. Totally understandable, with skills like yours it'd be ridiculous not to pay some bills.
Carter Barnes
thanks a lot! I hope it does get a bit more following when it comes back :'( mermeladadepera.tumblr.com/ thnks for keeping up!

>everything I don’t like is bait
Xavier Davis
Writer: "It's face, what I could only hope was a face where fear incarnate lay, reached toward me. I could feel the emptiness from it's soulless eyes pierce into me as it's ragged breath drew the last ounce of hope from my lungs. It was then that the realization came to me, this is where no one would find me."
Artist: Scary? Scary dog? Big scary dog? Is dog scary? UMMMM ADD BLACK SLIME? HORNS?!? DOG?!?!?
Joking aside, I absolutely agree with being able to write how something feels emotionally and visually instead of trying to show it would be incredibly freeing. Although I'm not sure I'd want to pass up drawing things, even if just for the challenge.
Matthew Wilson
>what I could only hope was a face it was a penis.
Alexander Jenkins
How many characters like Darla Dimple, Baby Doll, and Cozy Glow are there out there? I was thinking of putting in a similar character archetype, but I don't want to be too cliche.
does anyone else use ink? im confused as to what happened here. i mixed sumi and speedball into a small pot, and a week later it coagulated into a weird semi solid blob at the bottom.
I quite like it as long as it's not fetishy and overblown. I mean... it's intimate. And warm. I also enjoy it in a non-fetish way, it's funny how those two can overlap so easily. Like I'm not into dudes but I enjoy any time ladies in stories are into dudes, and are getting their enjoys on because some guy is hot.
Charles Perez
because we like roleplay. we like rpee.
Jace Smith
Took a quick break from some work tonight to sketch this. Still gotta fully decide on the Werewolve's height
the comic idea keeps building in my head, and while im doing dumb shitty labour like working i just cant stop thinking about it, and add more stuff. But i cant try to put it on paper because i miles away from the right skill level. Anyone else in this shitty situation? Im trying to forget it but my dumb brain keeps coming back at it.

Julia, my friend, listen: The lack of views for Magda on Tapas is no indication at all for its quality or the potential interest in the comic. The reception of Magda here on hyw has been overwhelmingly positive, in fact I've never seen negative comments except at the very beginning when your lettering was all fucked. Anyone who has read a fair amount of comics can tell instantly that Magda is super interesting. But here's the thing - nowadays just making a great product doesn't guarantee instant success, because the market is completely over saturated. So you should make a little more efforts of spreading Magda than none at all. Here are three easy steps to get a bunch of views for Magda: 1) Multi-hosting: Instead of just uploading to Tapas, upload to Webtoons, Smackjeeves, Twitter etc. etc. as well. This takes barely any effort and the number of views will be (roughly speaking) multiplied by the number of hosts you add. 2) Webpage: Make a Magda website dedicated entirely to the webcomic. This is your platform, you will need it later. Nowadays creating websites is as easy as it is cheap. 3) Advertise: There's a bunch of ways to advertise your comic. Just follow the instructions in the OP. These are the three necessary steps to grow your comic quickly. Once your total views exceeds 20000 to 50000, it's time to make a patreon and add a stream of passive income. Depending on how aggressive you are and how many hosts you use, this will take roughly 4 to 8 months. That's not so much considering you've already been at it this long. Lastly, even if you want to move on from Magda to a print publisher in the future it's absolutely worth it to go through this half-year process since it will be proof to a publisher that people are interested in your work. I took the time to type all this out because I absolutely love your comic and you seem unaware of all these circumstances. I promise I'm not making it up, just ask any of the people on here or in the discord.
Henry Smith
*Tumblr But get a Twitter anyways, very good for creating some buzz and staying in touch with your fan base.
write it down. you need to do this, you think it makes sense in your head, but theres always at least something that could be better, and writing it down helps you see that.
Julian Hughes
Apart from the fact that you're definitely going to forget about those good-but-not-crucial lines by the time you start writing, no, definitely not. What are you writing about that even basic outlining is beyond you?
What is a good site to post your shit when you don't want to buy your own domain?
Leo Phillips
I never really saw the benefit of multi hosting. Its true that its worth seeing if webtoon has a bigger bite than tapas, but anything else is extra work that could be spent on advertising instead. Having your own webpage, again, youre splitting focus. Do you then advertise your website and work from the ground up, or do you just point people towards the place that already has a small community building up in your comments? I will admit its fun making extra pages that tapas will not allow for however. Watching the pros talk about their webcomic experiences on youtube, they rarely do any mirroring. its always either a main website, or they focus on tapas/webtoon. everything else is advertising via social media and building a network making friends with creators.
I dunno. its not like i ever reached 20000 views a month with any of my comics in the last 10 years, so maybe dont listen to me.
Isaiah Sanchez
get a small voice recorder. go to a thrift store, they may have one for 5 bucks
Kevin Barnes
>speedball I don't know which ink you have specifically, but speedball adds shellac into their india inks. That is what makes the inks shiny when you use it, but exposed to air in the bottle it coagulates like blood over time. Maybe adding sumi sped up the process? If you think you need to mix them, you might want to stick with the smallest volume you can. Why are you mixing them, anyways? Speedball not dark enough?
Smackjeeves, tapas, drunk duck, and webtoon are the big ones right now. You'll be limited in what you can and cannot do, so do your research of the TOS before you jump in.
You don't even need that if you've got a cell phone. Most have a voice recorder built in as a basic function, and an app for it shouldn't be hard to find if you want something special.
Angel Gonzalez
>You don't even need that if you've got a cell phone. Most have a voice recorder built in as a basic function, and an app for it shouldn't be hard to find if you want something special. Yeah but user said he needs to record while working. Busting out your cell when you're suppose to be working is not a good look.
Blake Diaz
So, I'm in the scripting stage of starting my comic, since I want to be a few chapters in advance in case anything stops me from working on it for a while I still have some time before I start posting it, what are the best hosting sites ? I plan to post it in at least a couple (linked to my twitter so that's a common link of sorts) but I still don't know which sites would be the best to post it in.
>Why are you mixing them, anyways? experiment to see if it did anything to flow.
this makes sense though. was just a tiny pot deep enough for a pen, so no big loss. confused the heck out of me still. thanks. the inks were speedball superblack and yatsutomo sumi black bottle.
Nathan Cooper
Might be a difference in work places, but cell phones at my old job would get you cussed by out managers at worst, but voice recorders would get you fired on the spot.
Kayden Powell
hey thanks a lot for the advice and for taking the time to help me out, I really appreciate it, I'm just kind of a nooob when it comes to advertising and stuff though this has been certaintly an eye opening experience with my first comic, I'll look up for more oportunities to advertise (even though magda is indeed on webtoons and advetised on instagram) but this was first year I hope I get my shit together for when it comes back! thanks! *btw guys follow me on twitter @meeermelada*

webtoons.com/en/challenge/goth-university/list?title_no=269278 >I thought I did a decent job just with showing space in the backgrounds I mainly have a gripe with that first hallway since it's so generic but I really didn't know what else to do 'Fantastical' like how cartoons do gothic architecture, very narrow and practically leaning over the characters under them. I noticed the hallway too but the problem isn't that its generic so much as generically high-class as opposed to gothic. It's also very bright for an all goth school, most of the page and architecture are white. Easiest resource I can think of are Don Bluth movies.
>but one road block I often come to is when I want to implement a concept that is fictional but posed as realistic. Technically the word you want is 'Verisimilitude'! Also if I've understood the question right and you want convincingly worded bullshit you can try reading old timey science fiction- off the top of my head H P Lovecraft's The Whisperer In The Darkness has a scene where the lead character logically intuits (somehow??) that the aliens can be seen with eyes but not by a camera because of light physics, and the whole plot of Out Of The Aeons relies on you knowing an old wive's tale that you can see the last thing someone saw in the reflection of their eyes (ancient mummy ran into a space-Medusa, people get stoned). The big thing seems to be just phrasing it like the audience should already know this.
/tg/ has a worldbuilding general but you're welcome to stay here-more the merrier, especially if you talk about writing
Aaron Thomas
I'd wish to do my webcomic but: >Don't have time >Not good at doing HQ drawings like Bleedman >Always rebooting the idea but the concept is the same I am thinking of writing it on Tumblr but I am not sure
Why the fucking hell can't I just do it? I am sharing it here, someone, make good use of this and if I find it credit me pls Granted, it's a massive crossover between ALL of pop culture's IPs. They have always co-existed in a fucking big multiverse named Exaverse (those who study physics know why it is called like this) not accessible by any human means. This multiverse was created by the realms of light and darkness, which got destroyed in a war for reasons only I, the author, know and might share with y'all if someone wants to do this. The main character is a grey-haired expy of Deku from BHNA that lived in an orphanage where he was abused by everyone. Said guy LOVES nerd things. One day they did something very bad to him to the point he was driven to suicide. But instead of crashing while falling off a cliff he ended up in the Exaverse through a randomly spawned portal. He crashlanded in the Sonic universe and from there Sonic brought him to the center of the Exaverse to help with a new threat to all worlds. The guy is supposed to be the chosen one that will guide all of pop culture's characters in an epic fated battle against the forces of nothing (basically that empty feeling inside you that comes up when you don't feel no emotions, think of Riley from Inside Out in the climax). His mission is to find some colored orbs that represent the various forms of media (vidya, cartoons, anime, etc...) The villain embodies this feeling and is basically a full grey recolor of Xehanort in appearance, except for the eyes, one yellow, one red. He hurts people psychologically and basically curbstomped Ultra Instinct Goku and Saitama AT THE SAME TIME. (Continue at part 2)
Jose Russell
The heroes' base of operations is a giant tower in between the worlds that holds portals to all of them, and is guarded by my self insert, an old man. Main theme is main character, Sonic, Mickey Mouse, white-haired prince from the realm of light and black-haired princess from the realm of darkness. Last two are THE ship and have belligerent sexual tension since the destruction of the two realms.
In between worlds there are mysterious prisms that when broken by someone they unleash their full power and maximize it to the limit. Think of the Smash Balls but giving an Ultra Instinct effect.
Oliver Cook
I double checked my Speedball superblack and the box it came in does say "Contains Shellac" (and that it contains no peanut oil?), but the bottle doesn't. From what I can see it looks like some Yasutomo bottles do contain a small amount of shellac, so I'm going to go with some shellac reaction.
If you are looking to change the flow to something smoother, you might want to give Higgins Black Magic a try. I've found it to be almost watery compared to Speedball while maintaining a similar darkness (and it's more matte, making it easier to scan/photograph). Otherwise, if you want to have inks with the most flow you should check out dye inks and not pigments. Pigments are thicker than dyes, so dyes are going to be smooth in comparison but you do wind up sacrificing opacity if used alone. However, it might work out better for adding than water to smooth out pigment inks.

Rococo Comic Chapter 2 Page 19 for today.
Starting next week, my comic will be starting with new storyboards, and its gonna be kind of a uncharted territories, I'll try to keep up.
>you replied to me talking about what inspired your art >I was so ready to have a fun conversation about it >when I finally got home to reply I was exhausted and just went to bed >the same things gonna happen again today great page though.
Joseph Cox
Ive got enough ink to last me a loooong time of making comics. unless it goes off first? i heard it can go off... the speedball is a large bottle, and the sumi was my curiosity getting the better of me in an art supply store. I should really find some art projects to make more use of it all (practicing with brushes when I can). I feel like the sumi likes my pens more, kinda, but I dont think it was waterproof (until at least a day or more later.)
Logan Edwards
A thing that happened to me since I used to write novels before starting recently comics is that, sometimes im unsure where to add all the information I have about the world. There are many things that I left on readers interpretation but misunderstandings could happen. Its actually interesting to me, on novels, its easy to give as much information as you want, but in comics you have to be sure you arent creating annoying walls of text or over---(saturating?) the story with useless data.
Liam Morgan
they say you can get 1000 words out of one picture.
Jacob Collins
Haha, same. I regretted buying so many inks after I switched to digital exclusively. Now they sit in my art tool box mocking me.
They can potentially go bad, but if you keep them stored in their original airtight containers in a cool dark place (and make sure no dried ink gets stuck on the bottle rim/lid) you shouldn't have any issues. You could even use them 40+ years down the road assuming you stored them properly. Mostly you have to worry about them drying out or separating, which are non-issues if you catch them quick enough. You could even store the containers in an additional set of airtight containers or bags for more safety. It also prevents accidentally knocking over two ounces of ink staining your pants, socks, wall, and carpet when the loose lid flies off. Not that I've done that. More than three times. Within the same year.
Have you thought of doing a challenge like inktober? You could also experiment with inkwashes, it's just diluting your inks with water or alcohol but you can get some nice effects by treating them like watercolor.
Shellac makes inks waterproof, and it can take four or more hours to fully dry. I always hated that since I'd need to have multiple pages going at the same time or risk disaster. Just make sure to clean your pens and brushes well if you decide to wait for it to dry. If you leave any of the shellac it can ruin your tools.
Ryder Robinson
i feel like the longer i've waited to get started doing anything concrete on comics, the harder it's become. when i first had my concept and characters i was just one cup of coffee away from writing stories, and they'd be dire stories centred around my one self insert character but they'd be done, and they'd be badly drawn but they'd be drawn, but i never did it.
now i've got less inherently cringeworthy character outlines, but i've totally run out of plot and joke ideas, can't draw at all and still tell myself i'll learn 3d modelling for making backgrounds more easily, and i completely crash and burn trying to think of how to move forward. in particular, whether to pin down characters properly or double down on modelling/drawing
Jordan Russell
This is for a space opera comic that I don't have a name for yet. I'm not really sure how to summarize it enough to give you a basic overview of the story though. Sorry
going by the glowing and the somewhat abstract shape (are those shark fins?) and the fact that you said this isn't a clothes-shredding physical bodily transformation, I assumed this was sort of an energy projection thing. If that's the case, height consistency wouldn't be all that necessary, right? it could grow and change as it needs.

Crossover with Dr B Goodlove, Cult Control and a third mystery comic!!! 2nd part out Friday.
Oh wow, I don't know how I didn't think about that but you're totally right! It won't need to be at a consistent height after all! That solves that issue, haha. Thanks!! As for the shark fins.... I promise there's a reason why they're there!
James Rogers
They were assholes. It was "family owned" which meant that their family was better than employees well being, and if they thought you were going to screw them over by recording some of the shit they said or did you'd get canned pretty quick. Plenty young college women were afraid to be left alone with the owner's son, if you catch my drift. A lot of other shady shit, too. Thankfully most the "family" was old enough that they didn't know cell phones had so many features and using one just made you a damn millennial as opposed to being a troublemaker.
It still cracks me up how suddenly the managers acted nice around me after I started bringing a pocket notebook with me every day and constantly writing in it when they turned their backs. It was just story notes, but I never bothered to clarify that ;)
Serious life advice: Don't work for family businesses. You aren't family to them, you are an employee.
Dominic Price
I dunno, probably because I'm just starting out, maybe because it's mostly comedic type happenings for the first chapter so I feel like it didn't really need crazy dynamism or much suspense

or just blow the whistle the first time they do something illegal, and every time thereafter.

Every so often I see webcomic artists do polls asking how readers found their comic or webcomics in general, and the vast majority is always word of mouth. The most recent one I saw was upwards of 70%. Ads were only 7%, but comic portals (which might be hosts) were 17%. That alone makes me believe multiple mirrors and interacting with the community getting readers involved is going to be the biggest influence for gaining readers.
Jacob Scott
multiple mirrors assist with word of mouth?
Logan Torres
I guess. Makes sense, in a way. If you go to certain hosts to read comics you are going to see commenters and forum goers advocate for their favorite comics on that site, or creators who like other creators and/or their work link to each other's comics. More sites mean more chances for this to happen. Or so I think.
This is the twitter thread I'm referring to if you want to read some of it >twitter.com/b_iologic/status/1098229225851703296 There were other polls around, too, but this one actually went a bit more in depth.

I made a diagram that sorta explains how the character grows/regrows things. Hopefully that helps

Another page of my comic, this time a Priest short flashback. Im not satisfied but I blame the stupid filter I have to use.
I also think coloring it all would make it look way better, but ill do that once I have posted the entire comic probably. Dont wanna go crazy when I first wanna learn how to draw properly.
Another idea that I had is during his time with the cartel, the raptor mutant developed an addiction to cocaine. Yay or nay?

Hey, my comic has neither a name nor a home so theres not a lot I can tell you all about it... But I CAN tell you I'll be streaming myself working on one of the pages from 7:00pm EST (approx 20 minutes from now) to around 8:00pm if anyone is interested in watching an artist work.
hell yes this design piques my interest. I'm not super interested in watching you work but please keep posting here, dont wanna miss out on this.

Thank you for your interest! Since you asked I will definitely make an effort to start posting here on the regular!

Why is doing digital so much harder than traditional art? I can barely do digital art, but I'm fine with traditional

It would only be a matter of time before he was offered something. However, I feel like making him a coke addict would be overdoing it.

Just don't make him a comical 00s sitcom coke addict make him like your friend that legitimately got into cocaine and fucked his life up. Whether at that stage or not there yet

oh, well them have him getting some help or wishing he could, but he can't because now he's a fucking raptor and the betty ford center is for humans.

Digital takes practice, really. I was atrocious at digital art, so I would shy away from it and do everything by hand for quite a while. I got better at it by forcing myself to use it more often. And I really didn't like it for a long time. I kept at it though, and went from doing all my sketches at home on paper, to now almost exclusively on the computer.
Parker Taylor
Why am I experiencing the exact opposite?
Benjamin Reyes
I was thinking that his mentor noticed signs/quirks about him, and she eventually found a stash that he was trying to ration. Then she gives him extra encouragement to go through rehab/get help.
Benjamin Cox
perfect. do it like that they each have their challenges, that's for sure.
Blake Bennett
Everytime I see an after/before picture of an artist's progress, it's almost always uses digital as the after picture. It makes it look so easy, and I can't even get a clear stroke right. I can draw just fine on paper though.
Camden Brooks
I used to be that way too. I couldn't make anything right on digital. I promise it is all in practicing and forcing yourself, even if it gets frustrating, to do your regular drawings digitally. You will improve! I still like to draw traditionally, but I do love digital for making cleaner drawings and for limiting the amount of papers I need to file and keep neat, haha.
Nicholas Foster
I'm going to use watercolor paint for my graphic novel, here's a practice piece I've made.
Same. Digital is limitless and fun. Traditional makes you stare down your mistakes with limited tools to fix it. I still like traditional for sketching, but that's about it.
glad you havent abandoned this. it's a good idea and good art. This is what all furries should strive for.
Carter Roberts
Do comic creators also design the characters themselves or do they go to a character designer?
Brody Perez
the first one.
Jaxon Allen
Depends on how comfortable you are making up character designs and whether it's your own comic you're writing/drawing.
It's really a matter of taste/skill/preference on an artist by artist basis. (Though I think most creators probably make their own characters)
Lucas Butler
Character design is what I enjoy doing the most, no way I'd let someone else take that away from me.
Aiden White
>perfect. do it like that
Thanks! How should he handle the confrontation?
Carson Foster
unless he's 100% ignorant ghetto trash, he should recognize he's fucked up and want to get clean, and start taking efforts to do so. and unless he's 100% robot, he should find it almost impossible, repeatedly shock and disappoint himself with how easily he backslides, and by the time he gets to the point that he realizes he needs rehab, be in so deep all he really cares about is getting another fix. i mean it writes itself, addiction is a basal thing, it doesn't have a lot of interesting variants. naw, the interesting part is how SHE handles it and if you ask me, it should be a pincer strategy. hit him on one side with loving support and worry and on the other side with angry admonishment and surprise he would do something like that to himself. and similarly, planwise, give him the support of urging to get help and the iron fist of making damn sure he goes to it.
Dylan Collins
I'm working on the background for the punk pig animation.
That’s what I was thinking! Thank you for the feedback!
I was also thinking that instead he was born a mutant, but he transformed into a humanoid raptor when he was treated with the dino stems cells. Before the treatment, he looked like an average person with a predisposition for mutant genes.
Another idea was that the coke he snorted would enhance some of his powers, but limit others.
Connor Martinez
>mutant power is causing introduced DNA to act like a comicbook monster makeover works for me. i think that's a part of several retcons in both marvel and dc, or at least the idea that someone's older, sillier science-accident origin was actually just something that kickstarted their inherent mutation
as for coke, that is literally how it works. though PCP even moreso.
Colton Turner
How do you do Character design?
Gavin Cox
Thank you for the input! Occasionally blood would drip out of his nostrils, which was one of the causes of concern about him and his drug use. He also had sleep issues, as well.
I’m not a furry, but he would probably also look like a humanoid raptor. Is that how you pictured him? I was thinking that he would be a humanoid animal mutant like Orca or Sharkgirl.
Linework more or less done for the next page. I hate how the first panel came out, so I think I'll redo that, but otherwise I think this one came out great.
I also finally got to introduce psionics as a factor. Hopefully WotC doesn't have a claim to that word, because I really don't like making up new fancy words for things that already have a near perfect word.
Damn it, he's supposed to have the chains in his hands in the 2nd panel. AND I FORGOT THE CROWN FOR THE KING AGAIN.
Carson Jackson
when I made a self-insert raptor man as a kid, he was more humanoid, but this time, I imagined something just exactly like a normal raptor. It's not as if elevating the torsonic angle would do much anyway.
Asher Butler
>additional set of airtight containers or bags this is a good idea. >staining your pants, socks, wall, and carpet this is not a good idea.
skipped inktober last year, my buffer ran out and I wasnt fast enough for comic+daily drawings. but im hoping I can try it this year. gonna keep a sketchbook and some tips i found were covering a few pages in ink washes to change the tone of the page for drawing on.
Samuel Rogers
I see. I like the anthropomorphic design, though. He ain’t meant to be a self-insert. If anything, I would chew his ass out if he was real for making shitty life decisions but encourage him to go through therapy/rehab.
Also, you made a raptor character? I’d like to hear more about that. It sounds really cool!
Jack Baker
>comic portals toplists probably. topwebcomics and thewebcomiclist off the top of my head.
Connor Torres
Does anyone have any good references for drawing feet?
Bentley Sullivan
I mean, didn't every kid who ever lived? I have had dozens over the decades, but the one you reminded me of when you first pitched this was when I was 9 and we all invented superheroes, and I wanted to be RAPTOR MAN who was laboratory-mutated with blue-tinted adamantium raptor limbs and tail, and then assembled a matching helmet just so it would be removable and still have a regular human head. Gotta have that human head. i formed a team with two other friends who invented a cowboy-themed shark guy and I wanna say the last one was just a girl with lightning. we never got past the origin story episode because we really liked making up and acting out elaborate stories
I also came up with a name for him: Matvei Sokolov. He’s a Russian immigrant, so I came up with a decent name. Now all I need is a good superhero name for him.
Adrian Mitchell
and finally this one. because rear heel views are tricky. there's also one more that focuses just on toes but that's not as useful.
>Russkie I mean... no matter what his superhero name is, people are gonna call him Raptor Red
Gavin Wilson
Raptor Red? I like it. Thanks. May I use it?
He’d hate the name, but he’d probably just use it anyway. He’s not a commie, but hates ot when people mock him or his accent. Also, I was thinking about basing his feather colors after that of some species of loon (the bird).
Hudson Foster
ever glance at a comics latest page, not have a clue whats going on because its just all talking between characters standing around, then look at the comments and see everyone going crazy and coming up with theories?
Cooper Jones
I love Raptor Red more than Ruskie.
Mason Brooks
>May I use it? It's a reference to a popular book series, but also a pun on red as in commie. so.. you don't have to ask my permission, but you should make sure it's understood as an in-universe thing Russkie means russian. Jesus, am I really so old?
Adrian Campbell
I was referring to Raptor Red, lol.
If I’m ever able to git gud at art, then I’ll base his design off of some species of loon bird. They’re red eyes could maybe help give him his name in his story.
Brandon Gutierrez
I always hoped that was what happened when people visited my comic's front page, because that way they won't be spoiled, adn will be encouraged to start from the beginning.
Zachary Jackson
personally I've always hated it when people recycle existing bird coat patterns for dinosaurs. You never see the same coat twice on birds (though there are a couple palette swaps like blue jays and cardinals), why should they be repeated? and it's never a cool bird either, probably because cool birds all have boring patterns. raptors are vicious run-run-stab guys, they should have tiger stripes, leopard spots, or something brand new you made up. not look like a clumsy waterfowl
Ayden Wilson
Ah, I see! Now I remember Raptor Red and the story. Maybe I could name him Veles, after the Slavic god of the underworld and earth!
Raptor Red would be a hilarious joke that people call him when bantering around.
Noah Lopez
I see! As an aspiring paleontologist(currently in liberal arts) I was fearing that too. I’ll have to think of a good pattern for him.
Adrian Nelson
it just somewhat goes against what i imagined people would comment about. especially for a comic, youd think it would be action stuff that gets them making comments.
John Phillips
The one thing that really fucking annoyed me in popular science? When they found fossilized imprints of pigments and immediately declared all dinosaurs are red and black First of all, anyone with even beginner biological knowledge knows that eumelanin and pheomelanin are the two pigments that -exist-. That doesn't stop different colors from existing. You have combinations, you have refractory patterns in feathers, metallic compounds in hairs, a fuckton of variables. Secondly, no, let's make this firstly, how the FUCK is something as small as a pigment molecule going to fossilize? precisely what mineral has particles small enough that it can be dissolved in water, flow through a dinosaur's corpse, replace the particles in the fucking pigment molecules, piece by piece, and preserve them?
Brayden Lewis
naw because everyone has had that reaction beaten out of them when, as children, they reacted to everything cool and exciting happening on tv >"whoa look at that! aw man that guy got PUNCHED!" >"be quiet, user, we don't need your running commentary" whereas school teaches us to analyze and overanalyze every bit of wordy shit from every meaningless piece of literature, eking out meaning that almost definitely isn't there, and mainstream critics teach us that sort of thing is even a valid career. you'd never hear a film critic talking about the cool action scenes in a movie, it'd be beneath his paycheck.
James Lewis
Artwork for this page is done! Getting excited, having a bunch of these done lately!
How do you do studies of color /hyw/ I can't into color
Leo Cruz
feels good, right? honestly I have to take screencaps and eyedropper them then I reel like someone who's been shown mathematical proof that 2+2=97, when something that is clearly yellow eyedrops as purple and the whites of that guy's eyes are closer to black than white on the scale, and so on... and eventually, slowly, I assimilate bits of it.
Joshua Russell
One media/fiction thing that annoys me is when people call the larger raptors “velociraptors”. Ugh, it’s fucking obnoxious!
Colton Brooks
eh, that's clearly just jurassic-parkery. i mean 'deinonychus' doesn't flow off the tongue, especially when you prononce it properly, which I never do. to me that doesnt even REGISTER compared to using 'pterodactyl'' as a synonym for pterosaur. that burns my buns something fierce. and i'm a damn filthy creationist so nobody cares what I think. except doug tennapel. i wonder if he'd be my dad if I asked.
Jaxson Flores
Wait, you’re a creationist? Also, Tennapel is such a chud.
Luis Campbell
Another thing that annoys me is when people call pterosaurs dinosaurs. Ugh!
Dominic Nelson
I mean, at the time the term was coined, it clearly meant "all these here big ol' lizards we keep digging up" and they were putting them together as if they were actual massive squamata, and giving them names like 'iguanodon' the fact that someone later on decided "no, only the upright ones with these kinds of pelves get to be dinosaurs" doesn't change the fact that most people, most of the time, want to refer collectively to 'kaiju with historical evidence' and half the time, for good measure, toss in big shaggy ellyfants and rhinos and stabbymouthed kittycats too. if you take away my right to call dimetrodons and pliosaurs dinosaurs, i'm just going to go back to 'dragons' and you can't stop me.
colours alter in our brains depending on the colours surrounding. this is most easily seen in grey, put grey next to a primary for example and it will appear to take on its hue.
Aaron Perez
tldr the term dinosaur is too cool to only belong to one narrow group, and if you don't want people using it for a broader collection, then provide a replacement, instead of just nothing.
Blake Bell
dinosaurs alter in our brains depending on the bones surrounding. put a bird skeleton next to a trex skeleton and it will appear to be a different creature.
Also, dimetrodon lived before the dinosaurs (Permian) and are more closely related to mammals. Dimetrodon were not dinosaurs
Jason Jackson
Not only am I aware of that, I'm not sure how you didn't pick up on it. My point is we need a nice catchall term.
Samuel Miller
Why do we need a catch-all term?
Logan Turner
Fine, I WANT one. and I'm clearly not alone, since people are very comfortable with using 'dinosaur' for all the really cool animals you cant currently go see at a zoo.
So even though I just explained twice how I'm aware of that, you just thought you'd let someone else explain it again This is getting really off-topic and that makes me a sad panda.
Luis Gray
Bruh. I honestly don’t even know what you’re even saying anymore. The article explained why we can’t lump every extinct thing together.
Benjamin Moore
I'm concerned at what your webcomic is like if you have so little imagination you can't even understand this simple concept. People categorize things based on their thoughts about them. You can't just dismiss those thoughts with facts that have nothing to do with the experiences people have had with those things, those thoughts are valid, and if the label they're using is wrong, they should at least get another one to use in its place. It's like how nothing we can explain about the biological structure of plants and their reproductive processes will EVER get common people to understand what a fruit is or use the term properly, so if we're talking cuisine, we just have to talk of savory fruits and vegetables vs sweet fruits and vegetables. Because when your goal is 'make food taste good' (a much more common and meaningful goal than 'identify how reproduction works'), the relative concentrations of glutamates vs sugars will help you achieve that goal.
Angel Cox
user, do you not understand how science and classification work? I’m being honest here, brother. Culinary classification isn’t the scientific classification.
Carson Hernandez
Hitting my head on the fucking wall here. Yes, those two are different. Thaaat is my point. facts whisper. taste buds yell.
Lucas Baker
user, you’ve just been rambling on. No hard feelings, but nothing you’ve said makes any sense.
Kevin Reyes
Making more progress on the animation. Making the backgrounds and coloring the characters.
Ima try one more point then I'm going to bed One of Dr Seuss's motivations in writing for kids was when he picked up "why johnny can't read" and realized that young boys in particular had a dilemma: they wanted to read about fun and interesting things like rhinocerotes, but everything written about them was well above their reading level, so instead they got pablum about cats and bunnies, and determined that reading's for chumps. Seuss's goal, then, was to write something interesting and engaging, but made out of smaller, simpler words... and whenever a fun big-ass (generally made up) word was required, it was broken up into hyphens. You can't just ignore the way people think just because you know the right way, as defined and codified by people who think differently from the majority. They're not going to go "oh, I see. I won't use dinosaur to mean those other things anymore, sorry" without asking what they SHOULD be saying instead. and if you don't have an answer, then fuck you, it's just dragons now.
or I dunno, 'ludofauna'. that'd work. animals that are just fun.
Connor Peterson
the little mechanical leg cast she has really adds a lot to the design, very nice
Jonathan Jackson
I think that's a leg brace? Good catch, I didn't even see that.
Daniel Nguyen
????
Joshua Johnson
You can lead a horse to technicalities, but you can't make him care
Justin Watson
It’s because you aren’t making any sense, user.
Jacob Ramirez
gained a sub and then lost another sub. i guess it doesnt matter, im certain several on the list arent active people any more.
Andrew Cruz
I suspect this happens to just about everyone from what I've seen. My comic is also constantly up and down with subs. I even find this to be the case with Instagram followers as well. It can be a little frustrating, but it is what it is!
Alexander Sanchez
1 year anniversary of my comic here's to hoping i complete the comic before i hit 30 years old
One, you're rambling. Don't do that, it makes it harder to address the problem.
>but i've totally run out of plot and joke ideas, I'm not sure how transferable this is, I've never heard anyone else bring up the idea, but is there any type of story you just really really like? I enjoy actiony fantasy and furshit and I swear I feel smarter immediately after reading good examples- coming up with complex wordplay, remembering references to things I haven't thought about in years, things like that. Reading shitty internet fiction- very, very few ideas have no potential and quite a lot of them are applicable outside their original genres. Also being focused yet bored seems good for coming up with things. Reading fetish fiction for a fetish you don't have- surprisingly effective as horror stories, and you can easily zero in on what exactly makes you dislike this character
>can't draw at all and still tell myself i'll learn 3d modelling for making backgrounds more easily, I actually do know a webcomic that does that, though I wouldn't recommend it- it looks much cheaper than you think
> in particular, whether to pin down characters properly or double down on modelling/drawing The first sounds permanent, so 1 then 2
Don't disrespect synapsids! 'Synapsid' is a perfectly cool name for Dimetrodons and Dimetrodon accessories.
Easton Wilson
Thanks
Jeremiah Garcia
i'm gonna get kicked off of campus if I keep drawing milf cleavage like this.
since I'm changing the story to keep hancock I was considering how to keep her relevant. I think i'm going to have hildas mom and hancock start a book club and have a bunch of the other characters moms teach her about the 2019 cougar lifestyle
>i'm gonna get kicked off of campus if I keep drawing milf cleavage like this. Where do you go to college? Saudi Arabia?
Wyatt Price
>this is not a good idea. Par for the course for me. I learned how to clean up India ink pretty well from my experiences, so not a total waste. Kitchen or bathroom cleaners for hard surfaces, peroxide cleaners for soft surfaces, all before it dries too much. Just treat it like you would blood.
That's a good idea for the inkwashes, I might have to try that. Have you though about doing weekly drawings instead of daily to practice for next Inktober? If it's comic related you could post them here, I'm sure no one's going to mind more cool drawings to look at.
I looked at the original post with the poll and comments and it turned out "portals" were a lump of toplists and hosts. Apparently twitter limits polls to four choices, so there was a lot of lumping. "Word of Mouth" was lumped to contain tweets, retweets, affililate links on webpages, fanart, reddit, discord groups, so on and so forth.
>gonna get kicked off of campus for milf cleavage That's not true. That's how you make friends.
Levi Kelly
this is a (mainly) liberal arts community college campus. it's all softies.
Brayden Reyes
Fat tits are A-ok.
The extra finger on her hand, though, is a little weird.
Zachary Hernandez
Some doodle for characters that I will be featuring showing for a bit more than the original storyboard because I updated their role in the narrative.
Hey man, don't sweat it, I totally get how that's like. I got an hour commute home and I might not survive the drive if I don't get enough sleep.
Now you got me curious, what is it that you are referring to? because I tried a basic search but I didn't find what you were talking about.
I quickly redrew the hand before heading to class cause the original was super huge.
Aiden Reyes
Now you have me imagining some very silly setting where the calendar is 2 days long on one hand, not too useful. on the other hand, it's your birthday every other day!
Nathan Lopez
not Talon! also not when you ignore down and instead coat them in flight feathers, just flight feathers all over, even on their backs. that looks awesome. like a pangolin. we don't know!
Cameron Hill
Glad you're not dead! this comic has had some sluggish updates but you are clearly putting a lot of experimentation in.
Brayden Hill
Keep an eye on the catalog, it shows up periodically. really crummy-looking little rabbit drawings, something about autism or something, I don't really follow it but it has some funny bits. You don't know comfort til you've had a six-fingered handy J
So I havn't drawn or written anything in a while and thats a real bummer. Anyone have some tips or advice to get back into it? I've been kind of depressed lately due to work and personal family problems, and I'm upset about not practicing my writing and drawing as much as I wanted to, how can I make things fun again?
Dylan Stewart
Take the bull by the horns and draw/write to describe what's bothering you the most right now.
Logan Mitchell
whoa, coolio's a good artist, voice actor, AND violent criminal. what a renaissance man.
Jayden Watson
Might be worth a try, I've never written about my feelings before so maybe its worth a try to get out of this bad mood.
Lincoln Martin
Yumi is a dang cutie, but Liza knows when to pour a guy some sauce. Ah, there we go. I was wondering if maybe she was just thinking really quietly, and in pencil.
no english mistakes anyway so don't worry!
Asher White
watch some old cartoon and get inspired
Juan Hill
Write what interests you or have trouble with. It doesn't have to be super personal in the latter part, and can be masqueraded in allegories and metaphors a plenty.
A thinking strategy I usually apply is think of a subject for subtext/themes or design based on a sketch or idea, then branch them out with constant stream of ideas. After a while, you cut them down by discarding what doesn't work or fit into the mold with a stern hand. Proceed to revise and play around with the elements, and then when ready, you gather facts and think of what implications, systems and techniques you want to choose as inputs for that idea.
Look up covergent/divergent thinking, and lateral for unconventional third option thinking.
>Liza knows when to pour a guy some sauce. She's literally his servant. Something tells me people will get wrong idea from this one... well, lords and maids' relationships used to be spicy sometimes.
Easton Lee
There was gonna be a third page of the old guy laying on the ground with his guts hanging out. I even spent 20 minutes researching fall victims, but I just didn't feel like inking it in. I'll try and update each Wednesday from now on.
meta as balls I dunno in that case it's better to write laifu
Nathan Jenkins
i like to think that guy actually speaks engrish
Leo Morgan
that would flop so hard.
garbage like bones/dew would have to be excluded due to their shitty under developed timelines/plots. and comics that have similar plot devices would have to work together to fit them well
Carson Sanchez
we have had a few crossovers and cameos! and a lot of us have really versatile settings with room for a variety of peeps, but the best crossovers have mild variation to make the cameos fit better.
Wyatt Thompson
Of all the things you could accuse westry of, underdeveloped timelines and plots is not one.
Parker Campbell
my comic is already just a dnd session of another anons comic maybe
Chase Brooks
bad bait
Adam Bell
there's way too MUCH story and plot and worldbuilding, a typical thing younger or more inexperienced writers do. It makes for a great series bible, but it doesn't make a comic fun to read
Matthew Rivera
I wouldn't know, I don't *read* webcomics.
Brayden Ortiz
>better to write laifu Hmm, yes good.
Carson Bennett
That unironically be badass. Maybe. Trips of truth
Connor Perez
Amazing! Did you create the backgrounds from scratch or are they templates?
Adrian Murphy
Well yeah, else why share it? Neither picture really shows this off really well but they have feathers that go down their legs and naturally form into MC Hammer pants. It's weirdly adorable. They're genuinely cool looking birds, especially the red ones.
yeah I really spoke too soon when I said all the cool birds have boring plumage. i mean still MOST of them, hawks and eagles and falcons and owls, not super interesting coloration other than maybe some pattern on the chest, but there's always some good ones.
Levi Adams
just wow. just wow and a half.
Elijah Diaz
I want to work on something special for the next thread; what is something theme-wise that makes you think "WEBCOMIC"?
Christopher Martinez
How the hell do people do good backgrounds?
Blake Williams
Thanks for the idea, user! I love the feedback that I get here!
Kayden Bailey
I find it helps breaking things up into shapes, the same as you do with bodies, except this time shapes based on color, and not worry as much about 3d (After all it's notoriously hard to tell how big something is at a distance). think more about layers of 2d things, like there's shrubs here, behind that, hills, behind that, trees, behind that, mountains, etc.
if you can see the horizon, it can really help to show clouds getting smaller and flatter as you go back.
Zachary Butler
well book are easy but game is more likely for attention
Jose Allen
Stardust and Witchway's are already in the same multiverse.
Wyatt Rivera
>characters look significantly better and more alive when I draw them without using construction >but they look inconsistent as fuck as a result JUST
it's tricky but youve gotta get used to adjusting little details and proportions
Luke Cook
Is it cliche to start off a story with a dream sequence?
Asher Peterson
You've already got me hooked with 1 page and 1 drawing. Call it lazy all you want, I think it's very intriguing.
Levi Peterson
you know it is, but cliches arent always bad I'll tell you what i'm a little tired of: the story starts out with a super imaginative dream sequence that sort of foreshadows things (which isnt how dreams work, they represent how you're thinking presently and in the immediate past), and then the rest of the show/comic is boring and mundane and down to earth. Don't tease me with the dream, if you want to do a fantastic comic, do it. Little Nemo is public domain.
Levi Kelly
indeed. shame my writing sucks.
Eli Cruz
I guess it's not a dream sequence, per se, but more of a flash back that ends with the character waking up. It's nothing weird or tonally different from the rest of the story, it just alludes to the primary goal of the character.
Adrian Peterson
Just thought I'd share this random sketch from Space Pack!
Also, I thought of a question. Anyone else here also currently working on more than one webcomic? If so, how do you handle balance working on them?
nothing wrong with that but I feel like the best versions of that flashback come much later on after all, the beginning of the story is the time when I care about, and thus will remember, that kind of thing the least.
Mason Perez
flashbump, flashbump you can give me the flash
Jaxon Baker
Yup, i can confirm this.
Hudson Cox
Try this: 1. Do your structure lines like a good boy 2. Do a really loose drawing on a new layer 3. Come back to it later and ink over that loose drawing with the underlying structure turned off
Ghost Puncher is finishing up its pre-production phase! Everything's just about designed and planned out. Updates should be more frequent from here on out. Have some more concept art.
This is Reagan. After all is said and done he ended up being my favorite character alongside Wolfgang ThunderChad. Was inspired by Evil Dead 2 as he boxes alongside a living dead hand.
howcome turning 'color stretch' on clip studio's oil paint brush sometimes works and sometimes it still mixes in with surrounding colors (even when you limit what you're doing to a current area of selection) ??
Logan Miller
This is is the year anons Im gonna do it Im gonna draw my comic, I just need to finish this stupid editorial work I have and Im gonna try to live off comissions
If you couldn't do your story as a comic, which medium would you use? (book, game, movie/tv, etc) I would do a game since the story has game elements already
i habeeb in you you could totally do commissions for a living, you're good.
Anthony Miller
turning off*
Jace Barnes
Thank you, I have been lurking for a while now and I finally decided to do it, after seein you all workin so hard
Henry Scott
picture book.
Luis Reyes
It needs to be a webcomic my fellow user Im planning to animate some small bits, Im still seeing what would be better? Tapastic,Tumblr or just go for it and get a website
Samuel Campbell
oh i thought it was a general question for the rest of us.
Asher Clark
Do you have an ending in mind to your comic ?
Anthony Torres
it's the OP question buddy
Jose Wright
that was over 400 posts ago! how am i supposed to remember that?!
I have one, though im not sure if i wanna keep it. Basically, the main protagonists love interest turns out to be gay. also i rarely post here so i dont think anybody knows what comic this ending might belong to
but why that just sounds like a completely pointless ending
Cameron Adams
well the guy the main protag is in love with is in a very shitty situation, but his go getter philosophy is helping him recover and start walking the path of success. he sees that the girl whos in love with him is also in a shitty spot, but has a terrible mentality for it. she believes that having him as a boyfriend will fix everything. so he humors her and becomes quite friendly with her, and ultimately his goal is to convert her to a more mature mindset, one that will help her find true happiness. i already have a few ways of foreshadowing the guys homosexuality, and i think once the protag discovers a romantic relationship with him is not possible, itll be a true test to see if she has truly matured and can manage without him.
but i might not go with that ending.
Leo Barnes
Some of us like stuff, but all of us hate some other stuff I like this stuff. Glad to see you're still doing these.
Austin Martinez
Theres a race iv had an idea for similar to the fanus from rwby i called the Beastials difference is that they have more animalistic features such as lion beastials having tails fangs and a mane for facial hair bird beastials having talons they have abilities like those of their animal counterparts i always found it stupid why humans feared faunuses considering they litterally look just like humans but with tails and animal ears the beastials as a result are feared for a more logical reason they have traits and weaknesses associated with their animal counterparts bird beast can fly but they're very frail rabbits are weak but they can jump high and run fast aquatic ones can survive on land but become weaker from heat elephants are exceptionally strong but are easily startled
Brayden Smith
>If you couldn't do your story as a comic, which medium would you use? (book, game, movie/tv, etc) Some sort of visual novel or dating sim, probably.
anyone here on hentai foundry? how would you describe the caliber of art required to be accepted to there?
Jackson Kelly
there's gonna be some rude randalls telling you your ideas are childish, but don't listen to them. your ideas are cool your WRITING is childish. please use punctuation.
Tyler Watson
I know this is not the place but I have no idea where else to ask and I hate forums.
You guys think something halfway emotional could be done in this medium?
Zachary Jones
absolutely, it's just prohibitively difficult.
Hunter Reed
In what sense? Is it an issue of logistics/resources or the public not taking it too seriously?
Grayson Lewis
the former. the latter ship sailed the minute you wanted to make anything entertaining. we still haven't really gotten over that hurdle.
Kevin Russell
Shit, dude. I was really hoping people wouldn't just think Robot Chicken whenever they see stop motion with toys.
Juan Young
this better Theres a race I've had an idea for similar to the fanus from rwby, i called them Beastials difference between them and faunases is that they have more animalistic features such as lion beastials having tails fangs and a mane for facial hair, bird beastials having talons etc. they have abilities like those of their animal counterparts; i always found it stupid that humans feared faunuses considering they litterally look just like humans but with tails and animal ears the beastials as a result are feared for a more logical reason they have traits and weaknesses associated with their animal counterparts ,bird beast can fly but they're very frail rabbits are weak but they can jump high and run fast aquatic ones can survive on land but become weaker from heat elephants are exceptionally strong but are easily startled, Cats have fast Reflexes and night vision but aren't as social, reptiles are cold blooded but sturdy some are Also venomous, apes (monkeys, gorillas,Chimps, and mandrills etc) are more human like and are thus considered the link between humans and beastials.
Sebastian Ward
How is that some artists can draw commissions in a few minutes with no construction lines and make it look like masterpieces?
Matthew Myers
they have at minimum of a decade of drawing under their belt
Leo Wright
I'm of the mind that with the right camera angles and music anything can be the mood you want. But you're limited to toys of existing franchises. Why are you set on stop motion, and not say, limited frame clip animation?
Blake Jenkins
That doesn't really answer my question

>But you're limited to toys of existing franchises. Yeah. I can always make customs but sometimes I wonder if that would interfere with the first impression an audience has of my characters. I wouldn't be totally faithful to every aspect of the toys because I'm basing the story on whatever crazy shit I improvised with my toys. It's kind of a continuation with a couple of new elements driving the story.
>Why are you set on stop motion For the potential for action scenes, of course.
>limited frame clip animation? What's that? I googled it but it just gives me Clip Art Studio
Colton Wilson
you draw for so long that everything you do is muscle memory you dont need construction if youve done the same pose for the 10000th time
Jacob Baker
Construction is meaningless when you know how to make your shapes appealing. Stylization is an important factor too, but not that the commissions are usually repetitive poses with little deviation or perspective changes. This is how they get away with it, and it's good, they have achieved a level os mastery to pull it off effortlessly
Andrew Wright
Well, you did as I asked and used some punctuation. To the letter of my request, I can't complain. I don't know if you deliberately used the wrong punctuation as a joke or what..
Nathan Richardson
Yeah i did because in the end it doesn't matter at all
Ayden Gomez
>What's that? like this. but you could have more detail in the face and copy paste more bits n bobs. youtube.com/watch?v=zoFhe3hP8kI
Wyatt Nelson
Learning how to fake it is essential for getting low to mid-tier commissions and turning a profit.
Kayden Brown
Ah, those. I picked toys and stop motion mainly because as I was saying, I'm thinking of doing this as a continuation and conclusion for the story I was making through my childhood when playing with toys.
Gabriel Rodriguez
That was almost me with Lego. When I found out I couldnt photograph it acceptably (lots of glare), I began to work on turning it into a drawn story instead.
Lucas Lee
>lots of glare Why tho?
Ayden Russell
2003 wasnt the best for digital cameras.
Andrew Barnes
satanic full house trips but you are maximum wrong brother. many strong hooks have rely on tension and/or action
>in the end it doesn't matter at all Torn between pointing out that you're correct because no one's responding to your wall of text or just quietly leaving it be as an example. RambleAnon, I only dislike you because you're *fucking incomprehensible*.
Juan Roberts
>page 10 Dumb question, has anyone heard from the Nightmare Waifu guy? Last I saw him I gave him a link to a directory full of monster romance porn and I'm vaguely worried about the possibility that he found something really well written and it crushed his spirit
somewhere, sometime, theres a locked room with a guy furiously jerking it to never ending monster romance porn.
Jeremiah Taylor
does anybody else get creeping doubts about their comic around the 100 page mark?
Gavin Peterson
Sure. Actually if you look around webcomic communities the 100 page mark is where most comics make it or break it. I used to see a lot of artists say that if you can make it past 100, you can make it to the end. It's normal, and you are doing fine.
Jacob Cox
Hey! I'm not posting my gal here because most stuff is nsfw. I'm also the furry scifi guy hereI'm still designing the human characters for the horror comic and I'm legendarily slow at writing plot. I have a bunch of isolated scenes that sorta follow a thread and I'm working on putting everything together. Also I'm working on drawing an attractive male lead and I still have a long way to go.
>browsing /an/ just in case they made a new SMASHED thread >no SMASHED threads >they made a bichon frise thread though >remember that time i proposed some monsters to a friend that was thinking of doing a super sentai VN or something >one of them was a ripped psychic puddleman with round hair >didn't know shit about the breed, i just thought it looked funny >find out the actual breed is pretty smart IRL Huh.
how good do i have to be at drawing before starting a comic? It would be a more story based comic rather than a gag one.
Ethan Parker
Just draw now, and call the drawings "storyboards". You can go back later, or get someone to do it for you.
Andrew Phillips
You can start literally whenever you want. Drawing a webcomic requires tons of drawing on a schedule, which is a very good way to get good.
Adrian King
Minimum competency. As long as your drawings are mostly consistent and you can tell characters apart without labels, then you are ready to start.
Blake Powell
Is this the start of the new pages you were talking about?
Eli Williams
just be confident enough to be able to put out pages on schedule.
Anthony Adams
For a story based thing you need to be competent IMO. There is a point where you grow as an artist where you can solve almost any problem relatively quickly by looking at reference and you can keep a character model consistent while also managing facial expressions If you can't do that you should try simpler things and practice
I mean you can start with no drawing skills at all but it's going to be really hard and there is so much stuff to learn with comics you might get lost in a creative limbo forever. Especially right now there are lots of professionally drawn webcomics that can't break through because there's so many of them.

Ah, no, 2_20 is still part of the original storyboard, but I have drawn a new storyboard starting 2_21 , so this little segment plays out differently, but it connected to next segment in similar way. I just wanted to introduce more characters and have a little bit of how they interact play out.
