It actually died when it became safe. Motorsport in the 50's and 60's was metal as fuck. Something like 1/4 drivers were in severe accidents every year and a good chunk of them died. Nobody wore seatbelts because they were for pussies. Speaking of which, drivers back in those days were drowning in puss. You think anyone is lining up to suck Roman Grosjean's cock? If they want to spend it all on a stock ferrari, or if they want to spend it on a mustang plus aftermarket upgrades its up to them based on the engineers creativity and the drivers prefered style.
