- John Giles, probably the most creative Irish player there was
- Paul McGrath, won the PFA player of the year in the first season of the backpass rule when lot of old fashioned CBs were EXPOSED. McGrath's performances were a good benchmark for other defenders to follow
- Roy Keane, joint most successful Irish player ever in terms of trophies along with Irwin
