We tried everything, no regrets about "wasting the best American midfielder"
We tried making a team that works without him, and putting him as a free roaming defensive mid so he doesn't feel pressure (Bradley 2010). It didn't work.
We tried making a team that is good at defending and making him the center of our attack like a deep lying Pirlo, (Klinsmann 2014). It didn't work.
We tried making a team that counterattacks so he can always intercept balls in the midfield and do whatever he wants (Klinsmann 2016). It didn't work.
He chokes against Mexico and Costa Rica in almost every official game that isn't a friendly or a Gold cup mickey mouse game. Okay, Mexico is a great team. He chokes against a mediocre 2014 Portugal who were thoroughly outplayed. Okay, Portugal is a great team. He chokes against Jamaica at home, okay, they're "good". He chokes against Colombia and Argentina in the Copa, okay, it can happen.
We sacked coaches (Klinsmann) and players because he didn't like them (Jones, Johnson, Chandler). We put in MLS coaches and players just to suit him (Bob, Arena, Nagbe, Altidore).
He doesn't perform well in hex games? Maybe he's not in his favored position. Maybe he's saving up for the World Cup.
Now he had this one chance to show he's a true captain. He only had to perform against >Trinidad and Tobago (so you understand how small they are, their defenders work as taxi drivers and play in a semi pro dirt league). Many people would have hailed him as the American GOAT midfielder, even though performing against Trinidad doesn't mean much.
Not only did he not perform, that's okay, another bad day. Not only did he not care on the field that day, it's okay because it's your Euro team mates fault. Not only did he not even bother to defend well, it's okay, Concacaf is hard. Okay, we get it, you didn't defend well. But he's still the best American midfielder we got, right?
On top of all that, he doesn't even run. He just walks the pitch. Fuck him.
