>that Hakuho - Tochiozan bout
HO-LEE-SHIEEET
Just how could he win it?

You'd be too after such a performance.

Would you sumo wrestle her?

Attached: the godless orient 9.webm (640x1136, 2.4M)

That match was based

Hakuho is so much fun to watch when he's not 100%, his come-from-behind wins are unbelievable

>tfw wanted Tochinoshin to win but didn't want Ichinojo's streak broken

So Hakuko will win?

He looks exactly like he did last tournament, pulling wins out of his ass until he hit the wall and withdrew because of injuries. We'll see

Who do you think will win it?

Based. Show me a picture with more talent.

Attached: haku.jpg (474x594, 86K)

No idea. Hakuho has to be the favorite but we could get a meme winner

Attached: hak-tochiozan.webm (640x354, 2.72M)

I honestly can't

...

I wonder if the old regulars know we're back considering how dead the thread's been

She's saying: If I were a sumo wrestler my portions would be 5 X bigger :)

I'm not trying to be a dick, it just seems that these do better there

Madness.

The first few threads did great, but it feels like the novelty wore off for the tourists. Real shame that mandrama keeps suffocating everything on Yea Forums

Hopefully Ichinojo, but Hakuho or Kakuryu are most likely. Kakuryu has been reminding me why he's a Yokozuna this basho.

Cute

What the fuck is his problem

Attached: hak-myogiryu.webm (640x360, 2.98M)

Elaborate to a new viewer?
I thought Ichinojo would win his match against Tochinoshin because of his reach, but Tochinoshin knew better. Once he got both hands on Ichinojo's belt, it was over.

I love sumo, lads!

I want Ichinojo to prove himself and make Ozeki, if not Yokozuna. If he could just improve his consistency I think he has it in him. It was definitely difficult to root for him today since this basho is so important for Tochinoshin.
Your evaluation of the match is accurate. While he may be looking weak these days, in general Tochinoshin rarely loses from a position like that.
Realistically, hakuhowinslol isn't just a meme, and he's already 8-0. Hakuho is (at least on paper and in my opinion) the greatest rikishi in recorded history. He is definitely who I would bet on to win, especially at this point in the basho.

Me too!

>this basho is so important for Tochinoshin
I just think Tochinoshin looks cool and I root for him, too. Will he get demoted if his stats are bad this tournament?
I meant elaborate on Kakuryu.

Anyone know how big of a deal sumo is in Japan? Just curious

He needs 8 wins this basho or he gets demoted, although he can get back up to Ozeki if he gets 10 wins in the next one.
>I meant elaborate on Kakuryu.
I was hoping you didn't, because looking back at last year I must have gotten confused. I remember him doing poorly, but he did really well in 2018. Maybe the shitshow that was January got me mixed up.

I can't remember how many matches were in January. Twenty?

Man lads, I really enjoyed watching Endo get blown out like the hollow shitter he is throughout the first week

Tochinoshin is getting demoted isn’t he? ;_;

KEK, I love his "get a load of this faggot" gesture

Is it expensive/ difficult to see the sumo live for a gaijin? Have any of you seen it?

He's definitely in trouble, fellow nightbong. He's got four matches in week 2 that are basically guaranteed losses – the yoks and the other ozeki are all going to fuck him sideways with a rake due to his injury. He's going to have to pull some miraculous bullshit in order to survive at the rank.

There should be a buddy cop film with these two

who is this semen demon

That is politically incorrect, we now prefer the term "spunk trunk"

Each basho has 15 days, with one match per rikishi per day. Kakuryu lost 5 in a row and dropped to his injury.

Just don't blink.

Holy shit, is this footage directly from heaven?

D I is streaming

Poor Mitakeumi, at least he was able to get a few wins before his injury returned.

Ichinojo future Yokozuna!

I knew what Sumo was. I knew what I was going to expect. The godless orient webms threw me off guard. Why am I still so disappointed after seeing the fatties push each other?

For sure.

Could be low IQ, could be low testosterone. Get yourself to a doctor before you spread your shit taste into the rest of the gene pool.

How are you going to post in a sumo thread and not like asian women? White women are shit, by the way. If I were to rank women, I'd go
Asian > Latina > Light Skin Black > White > The Rest.

Just watch it for the pretty boys

Injury is the only thing that can stop this madman now.

I dunno why he likes to train small guys.

What was the highest KGF you seen?

I've only seen 484 KGF. I dunno how to convert that to g- force.

because he himself started out small

Nice win by Enho.

It was so cool.

thats a concussion right there son

its quite popular nowadays, at least the tournaments themselves. Every day sells out as soon as the tickets go on sale, there hasn't been a single day that didn't sell out in over 2 years. I've also heard that regional tours they sometimes do between tournaments are quite popular as well.

lol blood. I hope he's okay for tomorrow. Too bad there was no sponsor.

there's a twitch channel called mbovosumo that has the stream with english language commentary

streaming live right now

injection sites all over tochinoshin's ass

mbovo uses NHK-G which streams the Takayasu flex while D I uses the Abema stream which has a green cloth covering the face of the left rikishi.

Future Yokozuna

>green cloth covering the face of the left rikishi
Elaborate? Not sure I follow.

What's it mean when they throw a bunch of salt?

Haven't been watching this basho but how is my boy Yoshikaze doing?

Bloody

Purifying the ring.

You would think it's understood that if I know it's salt, then I know what they're using it for and that that's not my question.

Attached: bbblood.jpg (851x415, 73K)

Can't find a video on youtube, but if you watch D I's livestream from Abema TV, where he includes the lower divisions, you'll see that green decoration hiding the left Rikishi's face if they do a close up.

Can one of the long term sumo nerds explain the brown sleeveless robes to me? I see tons of old dudes wearing these in the front ranks of the spectators, typically over suits but they look traditional so I assume it must be a sumo thing?

Then what the fuck is your question?

Yes

Why do chinks eat so much soup and noodles?

If I didn't know who he was I'd probably think Akebono had a bad body type for sumo. Looks like Kaisei on stilts

It’s tasty, no?

I dunno, he slams into him with his right arm/shoulder
surely that fulfills 'meeting your opponent' and not sidestepping him entirely while shoving him from behind

This is the basho where all the mid-rankers finally realized that someone needs to step up

How come Sumo is always dominated by foreigners?
Do they allow roiding? How can japs compete?

mongolians aren't foreigners as japan is rightful mongolian clay.

ur mom looks like kaisei on stilts

>Takayasu
>foreigner

thanks man

She's from Wisconsin so that's fairly accurate desu

Hakuho was the GOAT of sumo anyway, but it's beyond arguable anymore with how he's found such insane ways to win past his best

ENHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

When does the stream start?

I could oshidashi anyone ITT

I'd get on top of Myogiryu too if you know what I mean.

He's part flip.

D I on youtube streams the Abema version

How the fuck does Kaisei stay in Makuuchi?

Sometimes he has good bashos, he's a good guardsman of the top division.

I feel like he would be a lot stronger if he lost 50-100lbs.

They are part of the organization Osaka Touzai-kai (大阪東西会) touzaikai.org/ It is sort of a club that takes a bunch of money to join and you support the continued existence of the basho like NPR or PBS. In return you get good seats and probably better behind the scenes access. [And wear the sweet brown happi (ハッピ)] I believe the minimum is around $15k per year but I bet some are spending more. This is called a Tamari-kai, which is a little bit different than a Kouen-kai, which is a club that supports individual wrestlers or heya. Kouen-kai minimums are much cheaper.

MMEEEEISEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEI

So when they throw a bunch of salt, it's just for flare.
You fucking morons couldn't answer that simple-ass question.

It's a fucking tradition, they throw salt to cleanse the ring of evil spirits.

I bet you think I didn't anticipate this post in some half-ass attempt to trigger me again.
Get fucked, ESL.

I was wondering if they have vendor hawkers, then I saw some people eating during Yago's match.

Maybe if you had asked about the amount instead of just asking why they throw salt.

>why they throw salt
That's not what I asked at all. Why are you like this.

>What's it mean when they throw a bunch of salt?
>What's it mean
That is literally asking why they do it. I'm assuming you're ESL, so I'll explain how to formulate the question you wanted to ask.
>Does the amount of salt they throw mean anything?
>Is there a reason that some throw more salt than others?
>Why do they throw different amounts of salt?
>Does the amount of salt matter?
These would have gotten you the answer you wanted. Asking why they throw a bunch is functionally identical to asking why they throw salt at all, since "a bunch" is just a descriptive word about the amount of salt and not the focus of your question.
Remember, if everyone is giving you the same answer, that answer is usually the answer to the question you asked.

>all these words
I already posted the answer.

Just helping you not look like a retard next time you have a question. If you ask the right question, you'll get the right answer.

>I already posted the answer.
literally no one except you needed the answer
stop getting mad at strangers because you dont speak english

I'll ask someone more qualified next time.

>literally no one except you needed the answer
Seems like quite the opposite, you're welcome.

If you asked someone more qualified this question
they would give you the same answer everyone here did, because that's the question you asked. You're anonymous, you have no reputation to protect, you can just learn from your mistakes instead of tripling down.

>Seems like quite the opposite
what do you mean
no one else asked or thanked you for asking

>sustaining the thread on shitposting
Christ.

Stop replying to him and let the thread recover pls

I'm genuinely just trying to help this guy learn how to formulate a question. He might be shitposting but I am not.

many people bring their own food, some have ridiculous spreads

Nishikigi is having a bad basho, too bad he's been good the last 2 bashos.

Mitakeumi's really nursing his legs. I dunno how he fights through with his injury.

Tochi has no legs, FeelsBadMan

Things are looking a little grim for my boy Tochi, hopefully he can manage 2 more wins but it's not looking good.

Yeah, he's fucked

>Hakuho playing with his food

lol.

>that shoulder slip by Hakuho
That was fucking beautiful, hope somebody got a webm

>Takayasu
>Dominating

Cut Takayasu some slack, he was against Ichinojo, the future Yokozuna.

He's looked good this basho but he's way too inconsistent to make yokozuna any time soon

I mean overall he is not dominant. There has been no dominant Japanese wrestler for over 15 years.

This time Ichinojo is beast, isn't disgusting fat

aya kawsaki?

If I recall right Hakuho said he wanted to win using some kind of rare technique before the basho and he certainly looks like he's still trying for it
Not sure what it is he's trying for but my guess is he's trying to execute it off the tachiai because he keeps opening rather poorly and then looks annoyed when he wins

Digits and he survives

He does really well against the midcarders mainly due to his size. He'll BTFO scrubs for a few tournaments, rise in the rankings, then when he has to fight the big guys, like now, he gets smacked back down. This kind of yoyoing is an inevitable artifact of the sumo ranking system.

Huh, thanks user! And the other bashos have the same? I feel like I see these happi coats at every tournament.

Same with all the lumps. Aoiyama and Ichinojo too

Why Hakuho only getting ppl with most loses?

>Sidesteps your charge

Attached: DelayedEcstaticAtlanticspadefish.webm (1280x720, 2.74M)

Because of the 8 rikishi from M1E to M4W there's only one guy with a winning record and that's Ichinojo

Ichinojo vs Aoiyama tommorrow, I don't think Ichinojo has ever lost to another lump, if he gets kaisei after that easy 11-1

It's a nice day both Makuuchi flips won their match. Too bad Kotokuzan is 0-6 at the moment.

Tochinoshin is fucked isn't he? :(

Takakeisho

Kakuryu
Hakuho
He needs two wins out of these four so basically yes

>inb4 he beats Tamawashi and flukes Hakuho to maintain Ozeki and can then take a festival off to properly recover

Hakuho the god!

Probably, though he's hugely improved this tournament to how he's been previously so the chance of him going 10-5 as Sekiwake and getting the immediate re-promotion is not zero like it has looked, assuming he heals even further before next tournament and doesn't just reinjure himself

>tfw the best years of hakuho are behind us

what was this winning technique

Tsukitaoshi

Hakuho is so fucking scary.

Why's he such a weeb?

Attached: tochi_wedding-5.jpg (2157x2673, 825K)

Isn't being a weeb a requirement for foreign Rikishi?

>he's hugely improved this tournament to how he's been previously
What worries me is that he's been improving *during the tournament*, he had some bad losses in week 1 that he shouldn't have but has fought much better after that, which makes me think he might be taking too strong painkillers or something in a desperate bid to keep rank, and just aggravating his injury.

Still, really hope you're right and he'll rally as Sekiwake.

How do I get into /sumo/, lads?

Attached: 133369650242.jpg (648x575, 165K)

Learn the rules and then watch a lot of it.

>makes me think he might be taking too strong painkillers or something in a desperate bid to keep rank, and just aggravating his injury.
Damn, I hadn't thought of that. You may be right, but I hope you're wrong.

kek

*belly boops your forehead*

hakuho went to tamawashi's training and sonned him 11-0 and is yokozuna too so tamwashi should put his hands down first out of respect. hakuho's response is basically him saying "oh you want to play games huh?"

meme, never could stay in makuuchi for any length of time

*calmly folds sagari as you struggle to stand*

Quintessentially American

might actually get into the sport, but why don't they lift weights?

They do, or at least some do, it's just not necessarily a traditional part of training. I can only imagine the thought process of the average stablemaster would be 'If you want to lift weight, have a practice match and lift another rikishi' since training all seems to be targeted solely at specific match fitness.

This is true. But it's also important to have a nice, low center of gravity, so I doubt we'll ever see widespread training that builds a lot of upper body mass

D I is streaming

I am really sad my nigga kaisei is in the absolute shadow realm now, what happened to him? I heard something about some neck nerve problems or some shit, anyone with the info on his current shitness?

Nice to see Enho again in Makuuchi, also I believe Tochinoshin has a chance against Hakuho.

I didn't know Kaisei was injured.

reminder, in japan sumo is peak masculinity.

Future Yokozuna. Wierd that Ichinojo is not stopping.

Ichinojo has forgotten how to count. It's more than 9 already.

Attached: Ichinojo.png (473x102, 5K)

Getting into makuuchi is nothing to belittle in the first place but he would need to get bigger to be competitive there.

For the love of God Ikioi, give this one up.

He had some kind of condition (I imagine type 1 diabetes) that stopped him from gaining enough fat. Watch his bouts, he was amazing and could have been top tier if he was bigger.

Can someone post the Aoiyama-Ichinojo match?

>Ichinojo takes up archery since last tournament
>Becomes elite
All he ever needed was improved focus

it really gets me how he can't even properly walk anymore and only squat in visible pain but he is still trying to compete. he should really let his injuries heal.

Yeah, I legitimately believe he has a shot at Yokozuna. He's only 25, he has time.

It's not really worth seeing, it was just lump-on-lump action where the lumpiest lump wins and the loser must lump it.

I want to have it in webm format because I liked it.

Toshinochin would have won if he had knees

You could say that about a lot of his bouts over the last few tournaments

Anyone has a webm of Takakeisho plopping?

Tochinoshin did incredibly well considering his injury. He really looked the the old Tochinoshin today, it's a shame he isn't there physically anymore.

Hakuho did him a favor. Most of the bouts they faced he basically slapped/pushed/avoided him and completely countered him. This time he let him grab the belt and gave him his technique advantage. He still lost because of his injuries but it's about the most honorable thing you could do. He did the same thing when Tochinoshin was doing the rounds for his Ozeki promotion.

A friend of mine was in Japan last year, said Sumo tix were impossible to buy, at least for a gaijin.

Since the Japs starting winning again it has got insanely popular again. Almost always a sellout. Look at videos on youtube from 10 years ago. Half empty stadiums.

Who is that pipsqueak Enho and will we see more of him anytime soon?
And this guy Tochinoshin looked pretty strong so far, but also kinda injured and thus not performing to his potential. Looks like he's going to be the one for me to root for, from now on.

Enho will be future 55x Basho champion. Don't root for Tochinoshin, he is literally a meme because he's white and had a cinderella run.

Turns out Itchy is pretty good when he doesn't quit half the time

>Mitakeumi vs Ichinojo

>it's not even fair anymore
The Hakuho effect has never been fair, really. When you consider the Yokozuna promotion criteria, 2 yusho in a row or a record of equal caliber, you realize that for a decade Hakuho has singlehandedly gatekept the rank of Yokozuna,
He's more than just a good rikishi, he's a defining force that has done more than just win, he's controlled what sumo has been for his entire Yokozuna career and is very likely to keep doing so until the Olympics at least, if his current form continues.

I only got back into sumo recently, but followed it somewhat years ago. How does Hakuho's form fares against Asashoryu's? Asa's been a beast on the dohyo and dominated the sport back then IIRC.

Head to head they were pretty evenly matched, though Hakuho started getting it over Asashoryu as time went on and he rose in rank. If Asashoryu continued for longer Hakuho probably wouldn't be quite the unassailable figure he has become, though I think Hakuho still would've come out ahead.
Hakuho murders him and everyone else statistically, though Asashoryu does have the unique record of winning all 6 tournaments in a calendar year.

As bad as it is for anyone trying to reach Yokozuna, he is a prime example of one. Besides, having the chance to compete against the literal best of all time is incredibly lucky, even if it means you never make Yokozuna.

>the old
>anymore
Bro did you start watching a year ago? Tochinoshin has a long history of injuries preventing him from max potential.

Yeh, I get a kind of impression that Hakuho respects Tochinoshin more than a lot of the others for some reason.

>Tochinoshin has a long history of injuries preventing him from max potential.
Yeah but remember when he actually performed well despite his injuries? Hos body just keeps getting worse, he's very obviously weaker than even this time last year.

Tochinoshin losses are painful to watch but he looked really good against the Yokozuna, maybe he'll win the last two.

Tochi looks weird. The shape of his shoulders has changed. Looks like a cartoon

>having obliterated legs and going roughly even at ozeki rank is not performing well
I don't know what to tell you. He made ozeki while uninjured and had a fantastic run, then reinjured himself and is now struggling because his stablemaster is apparently a retard and wouldn't withdraw him months ago.

Consider this possibility: Tochinoshin loses Ozeki, recovers for May, gets his 10 wins and regains Ozeki, then retires before he's in a wheelchair for the rest of his life.

>Yeh, I get a kind of impression that Hakuho respects Tochinoshin more than a lot of the others for some reason.
I think part of it is the style of sumo Tochinoshin almost exclusively executes. From my limited knowledge such straightforward strength battles are seen rather highly and so I imagine that Hakuho, knowing Tochinoshin is going to go straight for the belt, chooses to meet him in turn and beat him at it.

I agree with you completely, I just mean he looks more like he did during his uninjured/less injured runs. Maybe that other user is right and he's on some new painkillers, but I hope not because keeping his rank isn't worth destroying his legs and career forever.

>I just mean he looks more like he did during his uninjured/less injured runs
Hm, I think I must have misunderstood you completely earlier. Looks like we basically agree anyway, I would also much prefer him to rally and return. Although I would have preferred even more if he'd been withdrawn this tournament, or even the last, as well as sitting out the regionals.

>From my limited knowledge such straightforward strength battles are seen rather highly
This is definitely the case, you could hear the crowd responding to it during the Hak-Toch fight as well. Some of the NHK World commentators also seem to consider any kind of dodging or backing up to be contemptible cheating.

Whatever happened to that kid from the documentary? The guy who was really promising in some other sport but family pressure made him switch to Sumo even though he was a lanklet.
One of the more depressing things I've seen after learning he returned to sumo after escaping.

last time he didn't wear Japanese clothes in public his stable master beat him to hell with a golf club

No clue who you're talking about but if you want depressing lanklets then you can't beat Hattorizakura

Genuinely ignorant - has this ever actually happened before at such a high level? Where one competitor gets his back taken but still manages to win. Super impressive.

Stats are one thing, performance on the dohyo is another.
Too bad Hakuho seem to dominate both.

Isn't it part of the ethos, tho?

He did it twice this tournament, mate.

Is Tochinoshin popular/ well known in Georgia?

Excellent

Yes very much so
There are daily news reports about him during the basho

That's really cool

He was called Takuya Ogushi, now called Kyokutaisei Takuya.
From what I could find out from wiki he's a low ranked fighter who never achieved any notable succes.
He was a good judo fighter as a kid but like I said, got forced into Sumo by his dad. He hated every second of it, lost over and over again. There's this scene where he loses a fight in practice to this man mountain who he had 0 chance of beating, and he just loses 5 times in a row or something and begins crying. If you've ever felt that similar feeling of hopelessness, that scene really hits home.
In the end of the documentary he runs away, apparently that's not exactly uncommon though and usually they get brought back. It's a really depressing watch, like seeing an amazing painter get forced to play the piano only to end up playing in shitty bars for the rest of his life.

It's called "A normal life, Chronicle of a Sumo wrestler"

Wait, that was Tochinoshin?

No fucking wonder his oyakata doesn't give a single fuck that he's injured and forces him to fight anyway.

The President of Georgia sent him a personal message when he won his basho IIRC

too much steroids

He was awarded merit of honor from the president

Absolute new here.
I wasn't watching sumo for nearly two decades. Last time I remember was watching some bashos back on eurosport.
I just remind myself of glossary and watching randomly clips on YT channel.
Anybody can give me some rundown?

Disregard this, I suck cocks. Just scrolling through the thread I found what I need.

Though I need to ask. How are the health conditions of rikishi in general? Any notable cases? Was federation making notable moves / rules to prevent it?

>How are the health conditions of rikishi in general?
Shitty and getting worse. It's an ongoing disaster which is being managed in classic Japanese "total denial" style.

>Any notable cases?
Besides Tochinoshin, whom we've been discussing, promising rikishi Ura was BTFO by a repeat ACL tear.

>Was federation making notable moves / rules to prevent it?
No, the opposite. They semi-recently removed a rule that used to let a rikishi sit out one basho without loss of rank in cases of injury.

Itchy ending up as a Yokozuna kind of makes sense, I mean why wouldn't Mongolia keep blowing Japan the fuck out

when uncertainty clouds my mind I can rely on Hakuho to pull off another zensho yusho out of nowhere and for Goeido to shit the bed, it brings stability to my life and makes me think things are going to be okay

Attached: goeido.jpg (500x374, 54K)

kakuryu beats hakuho.
Ichinojo takes it in a playoff.
Screencap this motherfuckers.

I think Hakuho is a fuckin lucker, but these last matches shown a lot of skill. Unless Ichi beats him, I doubt he'll lose this.

>the literal GOAT rikishi is a lucker

Ichinojo beats Hakuho and they both end at 14-1.

he is and then he's not.
Last 2 tournaments shown mostly luck. So did in most of the matches in this tournament. The last 2 or 3 were pure skill though.

If Tochinoshin took this entire year to recover and actually get completely better for once, he could probably regain ozeki pretty quick and maybe even take a shot at Yokozuna.

He'd get demoted back to juryo and he'd take a significant cut in salary too. I think he'd be better off retiring.

Take 3 bashos then.

"no"

Not giving up when he has someone on his back isn't luck, it might seem that way but it's him remaining concentrated and calm while his opponent tries his hardest to rush him out

To even get in that position = dumb mistake.

Against Takakeisho and injured Tochinoshin he was great. Against the others not so much.

Since when has Tochinoshin the knee injury? Feels like an eternity.

>To even get in that position = dumb mistake.
He said before this basho that he's trying to win with a certain technique.

dare I say it, future yokozuna?

How can sumo wrestlers eat so much, get huge yet we never hear about them dying young of heart conditions (compared to other athletes)

Attached: hungry japanese skeleton.webm (500x280, 2.9M)

They live one of the healthiest lifestyles on the planet, while eating a healthier diet than 99% of people. That's why their life expectancy is only 10 years shorter than a regular Japanese male despite their weight.

10 years is a big difference. id hardly call that one of the healthiest life styles on the planet.

Sumo gain little in the way of visceral fat and have high rates of exercise so they're not much more at risk than the average person. I want to say they're even less at risk than average thanks to just how much exercise they do, but that might be a stretch without evidence.
If you ask me the more hazardous part of the lifestyle is slamming your head and body into someone else with rather ridiculous levels of force.

Bruh, a life expectancy 10 years shorter than a regular Japanese male means living to like 110 on average.

I read somewhere that their training is hard enough that they actually take off some ridiculous percentage of the fat they put on as a daily cycle. That's also why as says they don't put on much visceral fat.

how is he so based?

I was scared, lads. I thought the thread had died. Based.

/sumo/ shall never die

Everything except their weight is incredibly healthy. Also, the Japanese life expectancy is high as fuck.

Is it Ichinojo's time to shine?

who dis?

Maipiipii oyakata

If Hakuho loses and Ichinojo wins, that puts them against each other tomorrow, right?

no. They would only face each other in a play off after doing all of their scheduled matches. So, it would be a 16th match for them after everyone else has already gone.

What happens if they both win today and tomorrow? Obviously Hakuho wins but what about Ichinojo?

Hakuho will face kakuryu tomorrow regardless. That's kinda set in stone. If they both win today and tomorrow, hakuho takes the basho, and he will have done it without having fought ichinojo.

that isn't a technique. It's a mistake followed by a boatload of luck,

And if Ichinojo wins all remaining matches, will he get back to sekiwake?

If he were a komosubi, I'd say for sure. Komosubi might be the best he can do this time around though.

Based Ichi
Nishikigi was robbed

Based Tochi!

Fucking hell the drama goes to the last day

He got it today: abisetaoshi.

Why isn't Hakuho vs. Ichinojo on the last day? It's literally rigged for Hakuho to win.

There are too many people for everyone to go at it round robin style in 15 days. The schedule's set a few days in advanced while the tournament's going on. I'm guessing the council thought the two yokozuna would be at the top by day 15. I don't blame them for counting out a maegashira, but I definitely agree that they should change the tournament setup.

I disagree, If Ichi didn't lose he would have a chance at the tie.

Maybe, but it would have been hard to say that at the beginning while they were still writing up the final schedule. I think he hadn't faced many of the top guys by the time it was all sorted out. At that point there were still plenty of rikishi doing well.

I hope Enho will come to the top division somewhere in the near future.

*sometime

Kakuryu has to redeem himself and beat Hakuho tomorrow so that Ichi get his chance in kettei-sen

webms of today's matches when?
cmon based georgian, post em

Enho's coming up to the top division next basho. Too many MK's from the Makuuchi and Enho's got KK so he should be in.

>It's a mistake followed by a boatload of luck,
I'm saying the reason he is making that mistake is because he's trying a sub-optimal strategy for fun.

I think Tochinoshin actually has a shot.

Takakeisho has beaten him pretty consistently, as much as I want Tochinoshin to win I think he'll have to come up with something special to pull it off. Or just henka and steel himself against the boos.

I didn't there was enough interest. I thought you guys had seen them already. What do you want to see? Makuuchi or Juryo?

I only seen the results on
sumo.or.jp/EnHonbashoMain/torikumi/1/14/

I know henka is dishonorabru, but I feel like most fans would forgive him for this one.

So did Endo's foot go out or no? Hopefully since the issue is already settled we can have a civil discussion.

Check out Kintamayama on youtube he posts daily digests of makuuchi in english and japanese.

Well obviously it did. I just wonder what the fuck six oyakata sitting around the dohyo were looking at

Attached: Takakeisho v Ichinojo Haru 2019 Day 14.webm (1280x720, 2.45M)

Great

That's not a fact, just your hunch. My theory is that his opponents are too nervous when facing him and while he makes dumb mistakes, they fail to capitalize on them, making dumb mistakes themselves.

OT: I don't get why anyone would like Takakeisho so much. He has an annoying face, annoying attitude and his sumo is annoying too. My favorite ozeki is Takayasu, but I sure hope Tochinoshin beats Takakeisho. In fact I hope everyone beats Takakeisho.
Mitakeumi much better. Too bad he was injured this basho.

>That's not a fact, just your hunch.
He said it in an interview before the basho, retard.

>Mitakeumi much better.
I like Mitakeumi but Takakeisho is clearly the better rikishi.

Nice.

>name calling
what did he say? That he'll not take this one seriously?
What excuse do you have for him in 2018 and the last basho?
He makes mistakes. That is a fact! His opponents usualy fail to capitalize. That is a fact too.
Has skill? Yes.
And stop name calling, cocksucker.

I don't know about that. He always loses to Mitakeumi.

>That he'll not take this one seriously?
That he's going to win with a certain rare technique (I don't remember which one).
>What excuse do you have for him in 2018 and the last basho?
Don't have one.

>He always loses to Mitakeumi.
From my point of view, Mitakeumi's strength is beating people better than him.

>That he's going to win with a certain rare technique (I don't remember which one).
Not sure that he specified, at least not that was covered in Chris Gould's reference during his leadup coverage
I was actually curious myself so I looked it up
youtu.be/r09XUixmmCc?t=467

Is it possible that Hakuho is slowing down? He might be getting too old to be the best.

Absolutely, he's 34 and even though his technique is still transcendent his physical abilities are waning. Too old to be the best though? I don't think so. Unless he suffers a significant injury there's simply nobody even close to surpassing him at the moment.

He is, but even at 50% efficiency, he's still the best when healthy

Dubs confirm

I just said he's getting there. Honestly I think his retirement is going to ruin sumo for a little bit, but not having him is probably healthier overall. He's a great inspiration to everyone to do better, but most of them are too scared of him to stand a chance. Even Takayasu, who managed to survive that intense stare down, was visibly shaken up.

>watching day 13 highlights
Kek, Morita's voice is totally BTFO

He must be reaching puberty at last

He has been for a while, sumo lifestyle is very taxing on the body, especially if you've won so many basho as Haku has.

Although there's people like this who have been saying he's done for for years and he still manages to pull of zensho yushos.
japantimes.co.jp/sports/2016/03/29/sumo/hakuhos-best-days-behind/

It's kind of like the butthurt NFL analysts who kept saying Brady had to retire and he won yet another owl, there's definitely truth to both those claims as is natural for any elite athlete who gets older but people tend to exaggerate them because they're held to a higher standard than other athletes.

Attached: Hakuho staredown.webm (800x450, 2.45M)

This, Hakuho still wins more bashos annually than Kisenosato's career total so there's no reason he should retire even if he's down to 75% Hakuho efficiency.

Is there some kind of unwritten rule about higher-ranked wrestlers squatting first or was Hakuho just being himself

>Takakeisho vs Tochinoshin

Attached: 1549833145197.png (543x543, 398K)

What's the record between Tochinoshin and Takakeisho?

5-1 in favour of Takakeisho

Damn, Tochi needs to be on top form

We're in for a great day 15 with so much on the line. I always root for a playoff

That's why he's back-stepping instead of going for the belt like Tochinoshin, I don't buy this secret finishing move nonsense at all. In prior tournamnets he was getting into stalemate belt positions that used to be an instant force-out win for him

what did bob do to deserve this

Attached: hoskins.jpg (469x713, 35K)

You'd have a point if whenever he did get the belt he didn't win, which to my recollection hasn't really been the case

um why the fuck didn't Hakuho and Ichinojo face each other? This shit is rigged.

They already did. Ichinojo lost.

Attached: hakuho clowning on some can.webm (637x356, 2.7M)

No they did not face each other. Ichinojo did not face Kakuryu or Tamawashi either. Really poor scheduling.

Well he's still fucking Hakuho after all. He's so insanely competitive that I just don't see him risking a loss just so he can win with some meme technique. He used to go for that left hand outside grip constantly

There was only one spot in Hakuho's fortnight for a M4 and Tochiozan was the one who fought him

Do you love Japan?

absolutely mogged. if you're gonna try to defy hakuho don't go 50% and hunch over while not going to full crouch as he's standing straight up.

>that double nekodamashi
>that matador flair henka
>that forearm shiver
>that hip wiggle
>that chest slap
who is that, tochiozan? he should be called mrs. hakuho now.

anyone watching the US Open? they suck but some funny moments

on days 6, 7 and 8 he faces guys with massive losing records. At the same time Ichinojo is unbeaten. Typical Japanese to strictly follow the rules and ignore common sense

Attached: d0Vv4F4.png (576x466, 54K)

Is this all gamesmanship or is the lower ranked guy supposed to squat first

Mostly gamesmanship

you mean memekuho being a douche like always

why are you so triggered by hakuho, gypsy?

he always does this shit, faggot

Why does he hate Takayasu? He did not hate Kisenosato that much.

he usually fucks with people who refuse to crouch/put fists down first.

He was also fucking up with Takayasu last year.

Anyone else currently watching?

Just tuned in

lmao the ref just got pushed out

Are you me?

>No, the opposite. They semi-recently removed a rule that used to let a rikishi sit out one basho without loss of rank in cases of injury.
What in the fuck?

>slamming your head
Noticed some heavy head-to-head slams happening every now and then. This can't be safe, can it? If the fed wasn't bunch of old fucks, they should introduce some rules to address that. Like what they did in rugby for maul.

Ichi is like wall this basho
Shame if he doesn't get his chance against Hakuho

Any chance of Kakuryu beating Hakuho to give future Yokozuna Ichinojo a chance to win the basho?

Man I sure hope so but Kak's not looking very genki this basho

>disrespecting your yokozuna like that
Pretty awesome bout nonetheless. Thought Hakuho would just destroy the guy, but it was very tough and close fight.

I think the record between the two heavily favours Hakuho. Now if Harumafuji were still around and facing him...

Attached: tochinoshin cage.jpg (314x418, 35K)

Haruma's record vs Hakuho isn't that good either, it's only good compared to everyone else

With the fucking teat Hakuho's on and the slump that Kakuryu's in I doubt it. Though I would fucking kill to see Hakuho v Ichinojo tonight.

who is this qt and do you have any good fappable webms of her wrestling? thanks!

Damn was hoping Tochi could win this one so he could sit out next basho to recover, guess not this time.

Disappointing but good on Takakeisho for getting it done with Ozeki promotion on the line

Touché, if you know what I mean.

I don't particularly like Takayasu - seems to be happy doing passing grade sumo at Ozeki - but Goeido is so much worse, what with all his henka.

Too bad, at least let Haku win

>Hakuho suffers career ending injury at his final zensho yusho

Pottery if true desu. Only he could stop himself

You've all got it wrong
He'll rest the next basho and come back for another zensho in nagoya

Coming back from a humiliating loss at the last tournament to a 15-0, that's the GOAT for you.

>loss at the last tournament
He still had kachi koshi and pulled out for injury

For Hakuho that's a loss, especially when he was way ahead of everyone and had a chain of defeats at the end.

Ichinojo might be making an Ozeki run, I'm starting to believe

wouldn't get my hopes up, he likes to put effort in one basho and then hibernate for the rest of the year

Attached: 1511420381829.webm (1066x600, 2.07M)

Can't wait for Ichinoslow to go back to barely .500 again next Basho.

who is this pls

Me and my buddies actually did that for yesterday's bout. Then we remembered that we weren't watching live, so it meant nothing

Depending on the injury it'll be interesting to see if Hakuho competes next tournament
He pledged to win the last tournament of Heisei and the first of the next era and I'm sure he'll want to follow through

Hope it's just a bad sprain or something short term

Once this thread dies that's it until next basho

Bet the nips are fuming as always.

Great final fight. Haku delivers as always. And he sounds like a proper lad in the interviews, not some uppity cunt.
Shame about Tochinoshin, tho.

They gon' be fuming next time, when Hakuho goes on yet another 15-0 run, not minding his sprained bicep.

Lame. I hope Hakuho gets his arm amputated or something.

Cheer up gypsy, if you're lucky you'll die of malnutrition before the next basho

Ah yes, sludge and miscellaneous grass. Truly magnificent cuisine.

It's funny because for Hak it's true.

This was a great ride lads, despite seeing Toch lose his rank. Much better than some of the recent Walking Dead bashos, and seeing Hakuho BTFO everything in his path while clowning on half of them is incredible as always. The fact that his zensho-yushos alone make for one and a half dai-yokozuna is shocking.

I wanted a playoff but Hakuho's tightrope walk to 15-0 was one for the ages. The only real shame is that Itchy didn't get to face him because he would have stood a chance.

>he would have stood a chance
I doubt it, Doktor Lump hitting the clay would have been the thud heard around the world.

>Ichinojo not invading the ring and demanding a fight with hakuho for day 15

Jokes aside what a fucking great basho. Best in quite a long time.

Thanks

No offense but as a brit I don't think you can criticize japanese cuisine

So Takakeisho is a shoe in for promotion?

He's confirmed to be promoted

Let this thread die already wtf

At least we get something good from Tochinoshin losing.

HakuGOAT wins again

No

Ideally, he takes back his rank by bulldozing all opposition as a sekiwake next tournament and we get four ozeki combining with the yokozuna to crush upper Maegashira into a tragic pile of bone shrapnel.

Not going to happen. Tochi's leg is fucked, and it will never heal properly.

Hakuho's bicep is fucked, and at 34, he's best off just retiring on top, but he'll just keep going until he hit's Kakuryu tier levels of mediocrity.

Are you really this salty about the thread still going ONE DAY after the end of the basho? Jeez, dude.

New thread when

now, featuring almost copy-paste op since it'll die in a minute anyway

You're sperging out on the wrong guy Lancelot.
