Can you remember unsportsmanlike conduct by Germans in biathlon?
Shipulin is commenting now and he said some bits about Schempp, he said Simon is one of nicest guys(on track) and that he can't recall him behaving dirty etc, other commentator meant that Shipulin-Schemp h2h in final spurts is like 8-2 and Shipulin said despite that Schempp never was afraid to leave him way spurt (Fourcade blocked Shipulin's path in the finish spurt of mixed relay 2017 WCH, for example)
few days ago in women's pursuit Eckhoff blocked Dahlmeier's path on final spurt, was it ever otherwise? (also recalling italian Windisch blocked Peiffer on mixed relay in Korea 2018)
i can only recall how LTH(she is german) broke Hinz's pole 2 years ago(3 years??) and gave her her own, can recall no bad things

>few days ago in women's pursuit Eckhoff blocked Dahlmeier's path on final spurt, was it ever otherwise? Don't know. But knowmthat you mention it: the Hampster actually does block others on the finish sprint. I just remember one incident from 16/17 where she blocked another girl and the german media was in full damage control mode by telling she wanted to make space for her but "accidently" switched to the lane where the other girl was sprinting.
Dominic Nelson
>France is the only non germanic/slavic nation in the top10
Chase James
noticed at the start of this season for whatever reason that JTB was favorite for all sprints and fourcade was fave for the longer distance events like mass start and the 20km individual. Is this just fourcade finally losing his legs? I remember 2 years back he was also the fave for the short distance races and he would always crush the last leg of relays by making up 30-40 seconds.
Michael Jones
Nah. I think it was a swedish guy.

Unless you're from Luxembourg or something, you should refuse the flag at second or third place

How detectable are blood transfusions? And how profitable?
And EPO? what about blood passports, how come they cant catch it?
Andrew Williams
If you go to the archives you will see enough discussion about this shit, or ask in /cyc/.
Short Version: EPO is much more powerful and a bit safer than transfusion, but is easy enough to detect unless you micro-dose or fuck with the test results (Like you did in Sotchi, Ivan). Therefore many endurance athletes are back to blood doping, which is nigh impossible to detect (it's your own blood after all).
Timeline: 1970s/1980s = Finns start blood doping 1990s = Finns and Italians are the first to make the switch to EPO, every pro cyclist soon follow. Early 2000s = EPO tests are developed and many make the switch back to transfusions. EPO cheaters are caught more often
>french people will defend this kind of behaviour >french people still think they are hated for no reason

Barilla Girl won today btw.
Connor Anderson
>the skier in front has to leave a gap Just no. Should've left an even smaller gap and forced 4chad to go around.
Undetectable. There was a great interview with Tammjärv in some langrenn podcast. Cyclingtips podcast played a part of it and he basically said that it's undetectable. Also Michael Rasmussen has said the same and provided proof how his blood values would've been perfectly fine with the blood passport.
Not sure if EPO is any safer. With high enough dosages your blood turns into porridge which is pretty bad.
In the end of the day all the antidoping work by WADA is just so sports look cleaner to the average viewer. In reality it's all just a retard filter and a way to limit the doping so that people don't die from their blood turning into oatmeal. All the real busts have been made by different law enforcement agencies.

Finally catched up with the biathlon today.
I hope for the sake of Doro that today she was really sick rather than just resting for tomorrow's mass start. Italy would have probably won gold today with her just being her decent self. Her entire career's big question mark is the lack of a gold medal, and fuck, today was the chance with Germany and France screwing up.
And when will Gontier score a perfect 10/10 ever again? No idea why Runggaldier started as 3rd, considering how slow she is it would have been a far better choice to risk her as 1st and let Lisa handle the delicate 3rd.
What a waste. At least the dark ages for Italy are over, there was a time when having one single athlete ending within the top 30 was considered a success. Multiple medals at Olympics and wch is something unheard of since the 90s.
Xavier Moore
>Gontier Did the Italian press give her stick for this?
Luckily for her, the only interest is on Lisa and Doro. And that's only because they're pretty and win stuff. Italian biathlon used to be dead for more than 10 years you have to understand.
Biathlon wch aren't even shown on tv as of now. Pyeongchang 2018 was the first time I ever saw biathlon on tv since some Torino 2006 dead time fillers.
The future looks amazing though, there's been an unprecedented boom in youth biathlon enrollment after Pyeongchang.

It's the same in France no one give a single shit about this sport even if we have one of the best team for years and the best athlete since 7 years, they just shown this on tv since 2/3 years, imagine the salt in the north countries/Germany...

It requires fitness, a very alien concept to the American, and while the targets are indeed black, they are much smaller than they are used to. This is very confusing for the American mind, so they just stick to handegg instead.

I wish there were german forums/sites with comment secito to see the discussion. its second bad season for her after 2015-2016(also failed sprint, was out of pursuit, out of realy team, out of mass start :()
btw in 2016 wch in oslo MDH won 6 medals, 3 of them are gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze and in 2015 she won 4 medals, 2 golds 2 silvers iirc, that happened after she gave a birth 5-6 months before the start of WCH in Kontiolahti, where German women relay team won gold, Nessie was just 22 years old(like Bolshunov or Klaebo now; btw they are 22.25 and she was almost 23 though) and she was on 3rd leg and she did her part of job brilliantly!
wish i was her bf and we trained together 52 weeks a year!!! we would win golds together, like Poiree did with wife

Who, besides obvious choices from top-20 of World Cup?
The amount is not is not the point, most popular is. You could exclude a country like Estonia as well by that measurement. Then again I shouldn't expect a very high intelligence level from a toothpaste.
Hockey isn't an individual sport which is the point of the map.
Oliver Diaz
I saw that, but my point is that you could exclude a lot of countries that are coloured by that measurement. Because there are a lot of countries gray where winter sports are popular, that I'm assuming is because of lack of data rather than actually insignificant number of fans.
Tragic shooting conditions on the biathlon track today. Strong wind and heavy snowing.

>there are a lot of countries gray where winter sports are popular Such as? Only candidates to be added seem to be UK, Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria, Denmark and Iceland. Going by share of population, not total viewership/participation none of them qualify. There are not World Cup competitions in any of these countries except for women's ski jumping in Romania. None of them broadcast winter sports on public channels regularly outside of the Olympics and none of them have traditions of pursuing winter sports.
Evan Reed
I've updated the map to exclude Belgium, Latvia and Lithuania. Only countries worth arguing about now seem to be Croatia (strong alpine skiing traditions but not a huge following), Belarus and Ukraine (several great biathletes and skiers over several decades). I have no idea how big biathlon is in Ukraine and Belarus, but given how big it is in Russia and how well they do it's safe to assume there are several hundreds of thousands who follow the sport. Russians make up over 25% of Latvia's population and Rastorgujevs has been doing pretty well so biathlon might have a considerable following there as well. Removed it cause it's difficult to find any info.
>Slovenia Already marked as a ski jumping country on the map, but alpine skiing might be just as big or bigger. Loads of fantastic alpine skiers and great pistes.
>Czechia Biathlon must be at least three times as popular as ski jumping there, just look at the huge crowds in Nove Mesto and all the great Czech biathletes in the past ten years or so. Died down a bit after Koukalová retired, but still the biggest by far.
>Slovakia It's a non-sport there and only two small hills exist. Don't think biathlon and alpine skiing are that popular there either, but Vlhová might've changed that.

Recreational alpine skiing seems to be popular in Slovakia but I don't think it has anywhere near the same popularity and standing in Slovakia as it has in Slovenia. There are only three Slovakians competing in the World Cup this season (2 men and 1 woman), while the much less populous country of Slovenia have elite skiers like Štuhec, Kline, Kranjec, Hadalin and Cater and legends like Tina Maze. Slovakia pretty much only relies on Vlhová after Velez-Zuzulova retired.

after the race eneded i leaved pc for a ten mintures, then came back, saw(for the first time, but i usually ignore all races with no Hinz, maybe should care for Herrmann too) that 3rd camera this day was not simpyl showing track time mark or finish zone, but during award ceremony it was also showing podium from not main POV, with zooming ings etc, so I caught a cute Herrmann for example
>that 3rd camera this day was not simpyl showing track time mark or finish zone, but during award ceremony it was also showing podium from not main POV, with zooming ings etc pic related
main windos(the one included in relay) shows one shot, the bottom right window(not saved in replay, simply dissapear, also the same where hinz hugged someone after mixed relay finish and i dont now who was it still ;_;) shows another poit of view/camera!
maybe there were more interesting shots, but its all lost, cuz I was too late to screenshot.....
