Started by eliminating bandwagon teams, which at the time (around 2009 or 2010) meant Chelsea and Man U. Couldn’t stand either of those teams as they were the go to for people who didn’t actually know anything about soccer, but wanted to seem hip and trendy.
Then I read about Gerrard being a hometown hero. “Win more trophies somewhere else, or have every trophy mean more at Liverpool.”
Then I found out that Liverpool hated Man U and we’re rivals with Chelsea as well. Do not only were they a team I could get behind, they played to my hatred of those teams as well.
Good thread
It's more cringe when a foreigner bandwagons Liverpool than when they bandwagon Chelsea or United, even more so back in 2009 or 2010. At least with Chelsea and United you know you're getting trophies and success, but if you bandwagon Liverpool it looks like you're trying too hard to follow the nearly men. Following Liverpool because they don't win trophies is just as shallow as following Chelsea because they do.
