What went right?

What made it so much better than every other game in the series in every way?

FFVII is garbage.

>introduces HP sponge superboss cancer
>chops up previous ability sets into tiny pieces, throws away some of the flavor then limits them to a fairly small number of slots
>definitive best answers (weapons, gears, loadouts, etc) so you never need to think about what to equip or use.
>free non-elemental, defense piercing, hit all enemies for max damage summon that's compatible with every important support materia in the game but Quadra Magic (which it doesn't even need since it outdamages everything else anyway) that can be cast twice per turn
>mindless gameplay which consists of waiting for the ATB bars to fill (which is inferior to regular TBC), and lack of resource management (the cornerstone of TBC)
>permanently removes one of your party members from the game and her unique Limits
>removed Mix (again).
>even more brainless than CT is
>massive amounts of bugs and glitches strategywiki.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_VII/Glitches_and_errors

FFVII is such a terribly programmed, and poorly balanced game that if you use anything other than KotR+Mine, with the sole exception of a glitch, and countered Limit Breaks (enemy skill + all for the first quarter), you are wasting your time fighting sub-optimally. There is no purpose to deviate from it because it does what every other direct damage attack does, but better, and utility based approaches aren't worth a damn in VII. It's nothing but poorly thought out combat emphasizing direct damage (with an attack that completely shit on all others), ultimate weapons (abandoning the far more interesting situational usefulness of multiple weapon categories for a definitively best *brain dead* answer), fewer new ability sets, the difficulty dropping further from most JRPGs (where it stayed and has since been terrified of punishing dumb players), spectacle shit over interesting mechanics, dumb minigames, making story a bigger part (distraction from gameplay), etc. Trash game.

Remake is better.

You see, amigo, in this world there are two kinds of men: those who eat beans and those who become anime troons and then kill themselves. I eat beans.

Nice concession.

Pick whichever one you want tranny.

1. KotR + mime is extremely overkill for the majority of the content (basically outside of emerald and ruby). honestly think you must have been shit at the game and used them as a crutch considering you think it is the only way to play the game

2. Don't really care what autistic subhumans with authority complexes have to say. You're not really going to change my mind by being an unlikable crybaby faggot.
Should probably apologize for wasting my time, though.

If I had to pick just one thing, I'd say the biggest is that it has the most memorable cast of characters by far. Cloud, Sephiroth, Tifa and Aeris are videogame icons at this point. Don't think you can say the same about any other FF game. Even if you've never played FF7, if you're a gamer you know who they are. No other FF cast enjoys that level of recognition.

early 3d looks like ass but all the creativity and experimentation going on at the time meant we got the last couple of classics and started a bunch of new franchises. everything since that gen has been pretty much soulless.

Normally wouldn't humor a retard, but this was too stupid to let go.

>KotR + mime is extremely overkill
It's also an definite, brain-dead best answer.

>the majority of the content
A series of terrible fights where its nothing but poorly thought out combat emphasizing direct damage, and stacking it. With an occasional heal. It's garbage battle loops all throughout.

> think you must have been shit at the game
Right, understanding how the combat works in your favorite cinematicshit "game" is being bad at it. Never mind, if you played an actual good RPG like EO or ND you would get your mind blown by it.

>used them as a crutch
Tell me casual-kun, what good games have a objectively superior option to everything? Because they aren't good games if they do.

>the only way to play the game
The goal is to win. KotR is the best at winning with no competition. FF7 is a terribly balanced and poorly-designed game. Get the fuck over it. KotR is a symptom of a much larger problem, that FF7's mechanics and moveset are in general either redundant or worthless, not to mention boring. This removes player choice, as the best choice is blatantly obvious and simply a linear upgrade.

> Don't really care
If you didn't, you wouldn't have replied.

>autistic subhumans with authority complexes
You could just admit you have no idea what quality combat is. If you did, you wouldn't be failing to argue about the mechanics of a bad JRPG.

>really going to change my mind
What makes you think anyone has the ability to influence a stubborn idiot? FFaggots are mocked for a reason.

>being an unlikable crybaby faggot.
In other words, you have no argument.

>Should probably apologize
to Square for buying this shit game.

>wasting my time
If that was true, you wouldn't reply to this post either.

Didn't read, I literally just copied and pasted old replies from the archives of other anons blowing you the fuck out.

>What made it so much better than every other game in the series in every way?
Loaded question, a logical fallacy. The answer is: It's not.

Nice concession Want to give me a third one, or are you just going to run away again?.

Didn't play the original but since we got Remake because of it, it's proven its worth.

Nothing. It's garbage like any other FF game. You are just raped into thinking otherwise because you spent your entire life beating your meat to Tifa porn while all other your friends from school were doing it to Lara Croft, but you wanted to be special so you beat your meat to weeb version of Lara instead.

Simple as.

He's right VIIbros... How do we respond?

Nothing, VIII is an improvement in every single way.

How will OP ever recover?

We call him a tranny.

>not Barry
You are doing it wrong

Whatever..

I've beat FF7 maybe 4 times, FF9 once. Tried FF8 and could never beat it, forgot where I was stuck.

>explore town/listen to people talk for two hours
>dungeon for 10 minutes
>explore town/listen to people talk for two hours
>dungeon for 10 minutes
In fairness I haven’t played 7 in ages and it probably suffers from this same shitty pattern.

>You are just raped into thinking otherwise
Sodomites going hard on the projection today.

I think timing also had a huge part to play in its success. If FF7 came out 2 years later I don't think it would have hit the same.

This game slaps the hardest out of every Final fantasy ive played. could be just because of my age

>slaps the hardest
Are you 16?

nah i was cappin. im 32

Op you posted the wrong picture, that's FF7 not FF5

Nothing. It's inferior to several games which came before and after it. Retarded nostalgia-boomers who got a hardon for bad graphics, braindead gameplay and boring characters with a big sword. Whoopie.

I'm a hardcore FF8 fan, so many times I would even try to escape reality with lucid dreaming, I would be in Balamb Garden where I would often train with Zell in the training center and help Selphie with the Garden Festival, but one day as I was talking to Selphie, we went to my dormitory for a private talk. She immediately said, "You know you could live with us forever.." I gave her a confused look and she continued, "We understand that you live on earth and you REALLY wish to live here". I then said "How..How did you know?" She then giggled and said "Because we've been watching you, silly!"

This was a dream come true and I almost cried right there. She then said, "I talked with Headmaster Cid and he agreed that you would be PERFECT for SeeD, you just have to do...one thing". She then held my hand and looked deep into my eyes and said "...You have to kill yourself for the transfer to work correctly." I then gave her some questions, "How long do I have before the deal expires?" She then said "Cid said 3 months.." I added by saying "What's the most painless way?..." She giggled again, "Suicide will require pain buuut...if you want it quick...Get a gun and a nice shot to the head works.

I then agreed and she gave me a kiss on the forehead, "I know this will be tough but once it's over and done, you'll get to live here!" I then woke up and this was last week and i purchased a gun. I might actually kill myself because that dream just felt too real to be fake and my life isn't doing so grand.

Cid made everyone redundant in FF Tactics

Timing and marketing. It was at a time where 3d games were just coming out and it looked good comparatively. It came out when the first playstation was already the bees knees. They then slapped it everywhere.

just google imaged it and looks unplayable

It was the FMVs. The actual in-game Lego characters were embarrassing even at release.

fr fr no 3d is a such turn off no cap
bullshit aside, I know it's bait but I'll bite, it has the best gameplay in the series and it's peak jobkino, the plot and the character don't take themself too seriously, which is arguably one of the reason why FF sucks so much nowadays

They knew they were making a once-in-a-lifetime thing and spent the biggest amount of money ever used to make and promote a game at that time. They hired hundreds of extra staff and opened several global rendering studios to cope with the workload. They pulled ideas and iconography from countless movies and animes. They made it accessible without sacrificing the depth the series is known for. They went out of their way to craft the hardest-hitting scene ever featured in a game until that point. It was a perfect storm of talent, opportunity, and execution. Lightning in a bottle.

They caught the American mind virus of putting graphics before gameplay, and the rest of the series suffered as a result.

You all need to leave.

I thought the gameplay was a step up from 2D FF. Materia was a great system and I was always weighing up which ones to equip and whether to go for double XP armour and weapons over more/linked slots. Being able to use Limit Breaks strategically was a welcome improvement over having them simply happen occasionally. It also has tons more variety over any FF, or any other RPG for that matter. Outside of the regular battle system FFVII is basically a full-to-bursting collection of fun mini games.

Attached: 1578255219812.jpg (852x1200, 130.36K)

>whether to go for double XP armour and weapons over more/linked slots
This is the extent of the strategy that exists. And it's a braindead choice, since you never need the extra attack/defense from non-double-growth equips. Shit, the magic defense stat doesn't even fucking work!
>Being able to use Limit Breaks strategically
You always want to use them as soon as possible, since the number of uses is directly linked to unlocking your next Limit. There is no choice.

>good pacing
Puts the player into the game immediately without convoluted, drawn-out tutorials, almost every mechanic available immediately and they get built on throughout the game. Area unlocks, party additions, etc. all feel like they're delivered right on time; the player is never overloaded with or starved for gameplay.
>limited animu monologues
Compared to other RPGs, where characters never stfu, FF7 has waaaaay less text to pretend to care about.
>main character is mostly a blank slate
Following up the last point, I don't want to play as someone else's ideal version of a (poorly written) MC, let me play the game and I'll headcanon what I want.
>visual aesthetic
and not just one, the game nailed multiple
>several minigames
optional, all rewarding, minimal grinding
>ton of other side content
All the exploration and side quests were rewarding, in some instances there were multiple ways to access side content.

The LEGO characters were stylized and had SOUL, FF8's model look way worse in retrospect, they took a right step with the models in 9 but could never capture the peak artistic merit of the LEGO chads.

Attached: ETKgsRIWkAMTNoE.png (153x287, 23.27K)

>This is the extent of the strategy that exists.

If you completely ignore Materia combos, party balance, stats, elements, statuses and buffs/debuffs, sure.

>You always want to use them as soon as possible, since the number of uses is directly linked to unlocking your next Limit. There is no choice.

Of course there's a choice. If you've got a boss coming up, you save a strong attack for it. If you're topped up on health, you save a healing Limit until you need it. If you're fighting a solo enemy, you save a group attack until you face a group.

I'm talking about the ridiculous unprecedented sales in the normalfag sector. Normalfags thought the lego characters were gay, but they were seduced by the top-of-the-line cinematics.

spbp

>What made it so much better than every other game in the series in every way?
It was the first one I played.

Yeah which is why they used the LEGO characters in the FMVs they didn't use primarily for advertising.

>ff7fag is obsessed with trannies
Like pottery.
>AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEE THEY KEEP REPEATING THE SAME ARGUMENTS BECAUSE IM UNABLE TO ACTUALLY COUNTER THEM IM GOING INSANE AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH

>c-certain FMVs had the lego characters, therefore...!
Faggot.

>What made it so much better than every other game in the series in every way?

but it was worse than its predecessor.

It did eva story better than eva itself

>when you fuckin the bitch doggystyle and see a worm pokin out dey ass

>No other FF cast enjoys that level of recognition.

no other FF has that level of shilling by a dedicated fanbase.

Well if they didn't like them why did they put them in? The look was completely intentional and very SOUL, go back to sucking the cock of "the most attractive guy here".

Masato Kato and Sakaguchi.

I don't even particularly like VIII, I'm just explaining why normalfags jumped onto VII. After all, you can't deny that VII was where FF became a real mainstream thing.

Yeah and I was explaining that the LEGO characters didn't detract from it.

Most normalfags didn't even know about the lego characters, because commercials simply didn't show that shit. Shit, every single print ad was a screenshot of an FMV.

imagine being filtered by ff7

Late to thread buy this faggot
Definitely did not play this game as a kid. Oh we found Knights of the Round Eventually, but it wasn't really part of the game. It was plunked in as an afterthought super reward. A near secret

Not my fault you can't play a game without a guide. Not my fault you feel compelled to min max.

Take heart, ocd champion! Minecraft awaits to soothe your anxieties.

Eh, FF14 is quickly catching up. All FF7 truly has over it at this point is the perfect cast of characters.
