Enix didn't own Dragon Quest either lol. Amored Project owns Dragon Quest, it just had an exclusive production contract with Enix (which merged with Square).

Square doesn't own all of Chrono Trigger either btw. Armored Project owns the script, Akira Toriyama owns the character designs.

There is a world where a FFIX remake is the best thing that could happen, and the backgrounds are remade faithfully but in 4k and some additive but optional side content is put in that stays faithful to the characters and the overall story. This is not that world, it's got minimal chance at being okay and a large chance at just being flatly bad. I'll just be happy with the original game warts and all.

Sephiroth's genetic/memetic legacy can time travel through the lifestream, a lot of the game is dealing with the fallout of that (plot ghosts are the planet's defence against Sephiroth's time travel, for instance). that final scene is the idealised / strongest version of the characters taking place in a "Singularity" because the planet wants Cloud to save the day, but he can't yet. it's not a good story, the final scene was probably designed to be an over the top ending to the game and then retroactively justified. I don't think they should have added this shit, but it's simple enough

It wouldn't really work for FF9. In 7 the Midgar section was usually a good 5-6 hours long for most players on their first go. It's a decent section of the whole game. For 9, Alexandria only serves as a smaller intro, maybe an hour at most? They would severely pad it out. You'd get a full game like 7R's train graveyard and sewers.
