be honest, its a gimmick, it would've been better if it was a real console, does anyone actually prefer playing it outdoors instead of indoors? who actually prefers playing it on 368p instead of 720? has one of best games, yet limited by its hardware

It’s rare that I play “outdoors” with it but I’m a freight train conductor and I’ve played at work on trains while sitting in a siding. I mostly use portable to play on the couch, in the bed, and on the toilet now and then. It’s far from a gimmick and actually pretty useful/comfy and indie shit that doesn’t look any better in docked is actually superior in portable mode it just feels right. In other words get fucked nigger.

I think the actual premise of it is great, and with a stronger chipset it could actually make full use of its portable mode.

Problem is, the Nvidia Tegra X1 processor is so outdated and old that unless you build a game from the ground up for the Switch, it isn't going to run well unless the game is fairly old, basic, or has a decent engine. Most Unreal Engine 4 stuff tends to struggle, and anything open world causes the system to chug hard.

My hope is that Nintendo does improve on the switch and eventually manage to create a Pro-like version that can handle stuff way better and even give the option for a 1080p screen. I feel like the recent new versions of the Switch are more or less testing the waters at this point.

I'm homeless so the switch is the only "current gen" console I can play

thanks for proving my point

Converge or diverge help pls

it makes my hour long bus ride to work and home go by like crazy. and Making Mario maker levels for my co-workers is fun. the 2 times I've flown since I got it has definitely made it worth to play at the hotel and on the plane. I agree it is a gimmick though, but that's been Nintendo's shtick for awhile now if your just noticing.

Converges

Ok thanks

Seperate left and right controllers being split is comfy as fuck.
CFW for emulation, homebrew and free games. Enjoying dreamcast stuff atm.
Skyrim with PC mods.
Binding of Issac on the train.
Going from TV to bed or taking it to the toilet with me is the fucking dream.
Best console this generation, which I didn't expect. Wouldn't be the same for me without hax though.

It has been a godsend these last few weeks. Less than an hour of playing something and my room is like a furnace
>Head out into the garden and chill out on the hammock
absolute maximum comfy this time of the year.

Not really
Every time Ninty goes for a 'real' console, it does poorly.
Nintendo knows that the handheld market has a vacancy for dedicated devices (that is, something that's not a phone) and is trying to capitalize on that.
I think they'll likely just get NVidia to make a souped up version of the X1 with more Graphical and Computing power

Nope. The only console worth to mention in this generation.

>Every time Ninty goes for a 'real' console, it does poorly.
the nes and snes won their generations. hardware wasn't why the n64 and gamecube sold so poorly, it was the shitty way they treated third parties when they were on top coming back to bite them in the ass, as well as other stupid decisions like cartridges and mini discs.
if nintendo could just make a normal console with modern hardware and resist the urge to gimp it with their dumbass quirks, it would do fine.

that's why I'm buying the lite. it removes all the pointless shit

Can anyone who has had his Switch since release say something about battery drain?

Because since you can't remove and exchange the battery(by default at least), I'm worrying that a console that has like 3-4hrs default battery life in some games, will go down pretty quickly to unusable battery time within 1-2 years of daily usage.

>that's why I'm buying the lite
Idiot

Not him but I'm also tempted to buy a Lite. Will it be shit?

>spoiler
kind of, the new revision of the regular model gets better battery life so unless you're a poorfag it's a bad choice

>Will it be shit?
Of course.
Its literally made for toddlers so it won't break when they drop it.
As an adult you have really no excuse not to buy the regular one. Which does everything the lite does and more.
Not to mention that the drift issue with joycons is still not resolved and if you buy a lite you'd have to send in the whole console.
gg faggots

Why would Nintendo do that though?
Oh no these poor 3rd party developers can't give us shitty ports by just copy/pasting the game.Say what you want about their business choices but Nintendo are experts at optimizing their hardware.

It isn't great.
I recommend buying a decent size power bank and a short USB C cable and taping it to the back.
Modern problems require modern solutions.

>Why would Nintendo do that though?
if they still cared about the quality of their own games, they'd do that because the shitty hardware is really starting to hold them back.
>Oh no these poor 3rd party developers can't give us shitty ports by just copy/pasting the game.
instead, you either get the shittiest possible ports with ps2 resolution and powerpoint framerates, or you don't get the games at all.

Attached: poweroftheswitch.png (1200x1866, 2.62M)

All ports of bethesda games have been pretty solid, skyrim, doom, wolf2, you name it, the experience is compromised just enough for handheld play to make up for it.

of course it's going to be shit. the lite doesn't fix the ergonomics, probably doesn't fix the battery life, you get the worst possible performance on every game, and the drifting joysticks are built into the console.

Oh look, another teeny bopper can't understand the appeal of the Switch and is absolutely baffled by its success.

skyrim is ancient, and your standards are low if you think doom and wolf are acceptable.

oh look, it's the same autist who can't handle one word of criticism about his toy tablet.
boards.fireden.net/v/search/text/baffled switch/

This is from digital foundry's initial coverage, it shows the game unpatched on nightmare difficulty, which has more enemies. Performance has improved since, and these extreme drops have been greatly reduced, if not eliminated.

It's docked too, the game runs better in handheld thanks to its lower resolution.

Third party games are pretty important though. Consider that GTA V has sold more than any of nintendo's exclusives. The annual Cod and Fifa also do very well commercially. Like sure, the exclusives are typically very good games, but the average person will care more about the third parties, and want a machine that runs them well. Nintendo's exclusives also are being held back by weaker hardware, imagine botw with better textures and a stable framerate. Also if another wii u happens where nintendo has poor support of the console, you have something to fall back on, with Nintendo's current stance, if they aren't making good games, theres little reason to get the console. Like the switch does have its upsides, but the gimmicks are holding back the quality of every game, third party or not.

It's a great console. The only problem is idiots who for some reason stigmatize using it in public when they're on their smartphones 24/7 themselves.

Just recently some family invited me and my parents out to dinner at TGI Fridays. I said I didn't want to go but my mom forced me. So I just brought my Switch with me and played some LoZ the whole time, stopping only to eat a few chicken tenders here and there. Now for some reason everyone is really pissed off at me and acting like me bringing my Switch along makes me worse than Hitler.

But how else should I play Pokémon or Zelda? I get that the hardware is bad but it’s not graphics that make a game fun.

You shouldn’t have wrote the tendies part.

>want to pick up a switch
>waiting on revision to come out
>wont be in europe till september apparently
fuck

I've never played mine in docked mode. I literally have no reason to

I'm in a long distance relationship and fly/take the train a lot.

I have a good job with lots of paid vacation and good salary so I am fine. She's not ready to move to my state and I don't wanna live in a flyover state so eh.

But on those flights I like having a portable.

A psp or vita is the only acceptable handheld to use in public, the switch is just too big. Your family probably wouldn't have minded if you were on your phone or an actual handheld the whole time, not on a fucking tablet.

>b-but da gwafix are outdated ;_;
who cares, fag

a smartphone is small, discreet and not exclusively used for gaming. bringing your huge multicolor nintendo tablet out in public and playing it in front of everyone makes you look like a manchild who can't go five minutes without your bing bing wahoo.

>long distance relationship

You are being cucked bro.

>unpatched version
epig

it's not just graphics, the performance suffers from nintendo's outdated hardware as well.

Attached: 1512448762005.jpg (1920x1080, 395K)

I'm not an insecure undesirable like you, so you wouldn't understand security in a relationship.

The game runs like shit on every console though. You're cherrypicking examples and intentionally leaving out how the first party games perform well. Odyssey, splatoon 2 and smash 5 all run at a constant 60 fps.

Xenoblade is a product of laziness and rushing a JRPG out in the launch year.

Even TW3 which is multitudes more taxing runs at 540p. Xenoblade could be 720p handheld/900p docked easy if they weren't rushed.

Improving performance is the one reason i'm considering hacking my switch, as it allows running the CPU and GPU at higher clockspeeds, and it seems to really help with performance.
youtu.be/YBfWEd-q7JI

>On every console
That's Xenoblade 2, a Switch exclusive. What he's leaving out however is that the game was rushed for the launch window, by a studio crippled thanks to Nintendo borrowing their staff for Breath of the Wild. That's also pre-patch performance, the game's in much better shape now than at release. And nobody ever said XB2 was a technical powerhouse to begin with, some very pretty environments and neat scale aside. But don't let little things like that get in the way of a good shitpost.

My bad, jrpgs are like the people who make them they all look the same

I'll admit it's gimmicky, but it's a gimmick I like. My only wish is that it had more power and that the dock came stock standard with an ethernet port. It's fucking lame that I have to buy this weird attachment to directly wire my switch to the internet.

oh no nonono

Attached: pepelaughz.jpg (800x450, 40K)

Unforgivable. Unbelievable. Repulsive.

Playing a shooter on a console.

>people unironically defend below 20 fps
i've always wondered why gaming is dying, guess the answer is right in front of me

Attached: D1UKwTUXgAAvt8t.jpg (480x423, 27K)

Keep in mind this footage is from the unpatched version, playing arcade mode on nightmare difficulty while docked, which already runs worse than handheld. This is pretty much the worst possible scenario. The regular campaign is a fairly stable 30 fps.

Someone's insecure.

they only defend it when nintendo does it. bloodborne got shit on for running at 15-20 fps.

Funny you should say that, since one of the biggest sticking points people have with XB2 is its art design.

You had one job.

Did you know you can play portables in non outdoor settings?

I like to play Switch and watch TV at the same time, or play comfortably in bed.

That's because you were being antisocial at an explicitly social gathering.

you could do the same thing with the wii u, and it didn't even have those shitty joycons.

On a 480p screen, with the WiiU's shithouse library, and only where the gamepad could recieve the signal from the WiiU itself.

>I like to play Switch and watch TV at the same time
Damn, Switch game must be painfully casual when you don't even have to watch them to play.

Joke's on you, i can play from anywhere in my home. Mind you, i live in a cramped studio apartment.

>On a 480p screen
sure, but at least it had ergonomics, a d-pad, and sticks that didn't drift just from breathing on them funny.
>the WiiU's shithouse library
90% of the switch library is full-price ports from that "shithouse library."
>and only where the gamepad could recieve the signal from the WiiU itself.
worked on my machine. :)

You could do the same with some WiiU games, not all supported off TV play.

I did also regularly do that with the WiiU. The Switch just does a better job of it.

>does anyone actually prefer playing it outdoors instead of indoors
Wait, you think that's what it's for? I play it 90% in handheld and it's never left my house since I got it.

PLAY
THE
GAME

Yeah, it depends on both the size of your house and its construction. My walls are thicc enough that it'd never really be practical around the house but if you're in a smaller place with drywall or something I could see it being viable.
Joycon sticks work on my machine. I own two pairs and while I've got mixed feelings about them, I've had no issues with analog sticks. And this is as someone that's replaced the sticks on a used Vita twice out of autism.
The Wii U had a couple good games, it's true, but if we're seriously comparing the two systems, it's not hard picking a winner. Especially considering that all Switch games can be played portable, unlike all Wii U games.

>product of laziness
if anything it's impressive how much they managed to get out considering that nintendo took 60% of their staff away mid-development to help with botw, and they finished xc2 with 40 people

I actually think this is the first nintendo gimmick since the DS that is actually good. Unifies the portable and console base for nintendo, and some games, maybe you just wanna relax and play handheld. I know damn well when the new Animal Crossing comes out, 90% of the time is going to be relaxing in bed. But for other games, I have the option of better internet stability with an ethernet adapter and better resolution while docked. I'm not a huge graphicsfag for consoles since I mostly play PC and no console will ever have the quality of PC, so things like the switch end up filling an interesting niche.

I see a superior handheld experience more than a watered down console, since for me it's supplemented the role of handheld instead of watering down a console.

i bet you didnt even buy one

Yeah, it's more of a handheld you can play on your tv than a console you can take with you, it reminds me of the psp go in that regard, its dock had video output and you could connect a dualshock 3 via bluetooth.

What I love about this is it shows how FUCKING BRAINDEAD Gamefreak are.

>Joycon sticks work on my machine.
they work for now. they are guaranteed to start drifting eventually from normal use because of how cheaply they're built.
>if we're seriously comparing the two systems, it's not hard picking a winner.
the winner is the one with 3d world instead of soulless odyshit, wonderful 101, pikmin 3, xenoblade x, 90% of the switch library, free online, virtual console, and better controllers. the switch is a downgrade that only sold better because they ran a super bowl commercial and didn't put "wii" in the name.

oh, also, the wii u has backwards compatibility. yet another advantage over the switch.

I almost exclusively play it as a handheld, and have console level games. My favorite gimmick thus far

How is he proving your point?

Holy shit, we found the Wii U defense force. Didn't think it even existed in 2019. It's like I'm really reading the ramblings of a kid that wishes he got a 360.

>it was the shitty way they treated third parties
They treated them pretty much the same way every company prior to the esrb did.

They don't exist, they're just sonyfags falseflagging as usual.
Happens every time.

i disagree. before the switch, handhelds were known for having cheaper games built for the portable experience. with the switch, you just get full-price shitty ports of home-console games. nintendo tried to combine two polar opposites into one device, and it just doesn't work in reality like they thought it would.

Will Nintendo even consider a straightforward box and dual stick controller console ever again?

I have to travel for work so I mostly use this for planes, busses, trains and really long car rides.

The thing is you get both. You've got smaller indie titles largely filling the 'traditional' handheld gap, stuff like Wargroove scratching the Advance Wars itch, and you've got your choice of all of Nintendo's console style games too. There's also the fact that 3DS development wasn't as cheap as people think it was, due to the weird hardware it was often simpler and as a result, cheaper to develop for the Vita. People assume there's always a linear relationship between performance and dev costs but that's not always the case.

i'm an idort. i own both. comparing both of them from my experience of actually using them, i liked the wii u better, simple as that.
just because there's a ton of console-war bullshit on Yea Forums doesn't mean everything is console-war bullshit.

When I'm home, I don't have time to sit in front of the tv for hours, and since me and my wife only have one big tv, I typically play on handheld. Besides, putting it and taking it out of the sleep mode is super quick and the console itself loads really fast. That's during the week.

During the weekend, we go to my wife's family's house (we live next door to my parents, we see them every day) and the switch is perfect for those days.

Also, if i'm at home I can play the switch anywhere on the house, which is really comfortable.

>You've got smaller indie titles largely filling the 'traditional' handheld gap
except they aren't. indies aren't good enough to be a substitute for the real thing, and most of them are just ported over from pc anyway.

>he actually believes the snoyfag
LOL, the game doesn't actually behave like that, you simply got played.

I did it one summer when camping and my camp mates and I had a blast playing USFII and KOF98 after a nice long hike.

My work gets intensely boring at times so I like to bring in Smash and mess around for a bit with the single player modes.

it's super practical and i don't give a fuck about resolution. Most games play at 720p on portable and that's all i care.

Besides
>Portable MK11 at 60FPS
>60FPS
>60FPS
>60FPS

that's the shit you care about, Yea Forums, the FPSs. Well, mk11 runs at 60FPSs while the ps4 only at 30.

>MUH GRAPHICS REEEEEE
You don't notice low graphics in such a fast paced game. As soon as the fight starts, you are playing a good-looking game and that's it. The PC version is still the perfect one though.

Portability is more than just taking it outside we've been over this

>i'm an idort
Sure you are and I'm Donald Trump. You idiots always try to fall back on the idort thing whenever anyone questions it like it's an all purpose defense.

it's great for me, I don't have a tv, so I have to disconnect my PC and hook up my PS4 to the monitor if I want to use it, but with the switch I don't need to do that
