What is everyone thoughts on Minecraft?

One of the best games of all time

Great game. But that initial atmosphere of loneliness and build to survive the night has been lost. I mean, all that adventuring is nice and stuff, but the game as it was was in it's early stages: that feel, that was just perfect..
All the updates improved the 'building' and 'adventure' style of the game, but lost that really nice 'survival' and lonely-special kind atmosphere it used to have.

It deserves the third slot more than anyone else.

I burnt myself out on it too long ago and few of the updates since me quitting it have been aimed towards the kind of playstyle and experience I want. I most recently played it with a modpack called Tekkit Classic and it certainly breathed new life into the game and got me to play through it again, but the modpack itself ended up very shallow with ways to easily generate infinite resources.

The latest version, but if we include mods then whatever version had that great airship mod that died a long time ago.

It's a timeless classic, I enjoy it, but I wish it went for the direction it was originally going when it was a notch project

I love the concept of minecraftm but becomes boring real quick if building empty useless houses does nothing for you.
Mojang are worthless when it comes to making goal oriented play mechanics. Progression is shit, bosses are shit, enemies are shit, good mobs are shit

How good would a laptop run a server connected to ethernet while I use my desktop to play on it with friends? My wireless is so shit anyone that connects immediately disconnects but running a wire through my house isn't an option.

Modding is pretty good, the entire game is shit code because it was written in Java instead of literally anything more respectable

I unironically hate skyrim and just about every other open world game.

IMO only Portal 2 and maybe Plants vs Zombies are cool enough, Smash is mostly rehashed with every release and Skyrim was a dumpster fire that pandered to newfags of the RPG genre and focused more on making the player feel cool than having the player earn that right

Its pretty good. More fun with multiplayer. I play it in random spurts in between year or so long breaks.

Other more interesting games which function in the same way, exist.

I wouldn't mind that they added villagers to destroy that feeling of you being alone in the entire world if the villagers weren't so damn useless. They add nothing to the game.

It wouldn't even needed lots of weird shit to programm into. Just use all that fucking money to make it run as smooth as possible and add a shit ton of different minerals and trees and shit.

As long as they never remove the ability to revert to older versions, this game will be around for decades.

It's up there with the most influential games of all time, but it gets boring very quickly to me... at least, the base game does. I've played way more modded Minecraft than vanilla.
