The other racers are obviously faster than you so you need to do an absolutely perfect run all the way through, it all depends on being lucky and getting good items/ not getting hit by stuff in the last half lap, the game is doing a lap 10-15 times to get 0.5 seconds better than what you usually get. It's not challenging fun it's just unfair bullshit,

You know how to do air u-turns, conserve reserves, keep blue fire, etc? Power sliding is very surface level. Go watch WR runs of any tracks you're having trouble with and see what skips they do.

Webm related is me playing on hard, just a few minutes ago. As long as you can maintain your boost the AI will fall behind you over time.
It's even easier on other maps that have better shortcuts than Crash Cove. The AI never uses shortcuts.

if you're talking about computer players you're not good. if it's online Some of it is pretty bullshit luck, but the better you get the more you can negate some of the bullshit. if you get clocked or orbed 3 times on a blue flame level though and someone else keeps it once its gg though and you just got to accept that

You need to concentrate on going fast. Relic races are worse, because getting platinums is next to impossible without getting all crates, and some are a fucking cancer to get. Learn the tracks and remember to maintain boost, even SF is enough for most.
