feeling nostalgic so have been playing this on an old cd-rom. are there any communities out there for this? ive been trying to learn how to mod and skin this game, i was too brainlet as a kid in 03' to do it.

idk if i want to make a discord again, is this a quake discord or more of a general ID discord? i love quake and doom, but i really want to find a place to game some oldschool moddig knowledge for quake3.
its a cpma discord, probably the most popular q3 mod. If you have any questions relating to modding, there are plenty of people that have done extensive modding and can help you out
alright cool. ill probably make a discord again to check it out. back when q3 was current i had dial up so couldnt ever play. was hoping to dive in and make up for what i missed.
They'll be able to help you out with modding, but gameplay wise you're gonna be massively outclassed. Quake Live is a much easier start. And don't worry CPM isn't going anywhere else so I wouldn't worry about it.
Good luck OP, I got Q1 to feed nostalgia but didn't even start because I can't change the fucking resolution from 640x480 16bit, thanks to the jankass version available. I'm done with old non-console games.

its worth it breh
go download radiant and make your own maps. quake 1-3 level editing was incredibly intuitive and fun.
i dont care if i suck, i played a few q3a matches online as a kid getting a solid 5 FPS, and remember getting railgunned out of the air while flying off launchpads. i really wish i had a solid internet connection, im curious what those guys setups were to play onlinr as early as 2001 or whatever. was dial up ass or was my computer just shit? i was able to run local games fine.
use a sourceport you doofus
I like your tenacity, just be careful. I've played quake ""seriously"" for almost ten years and I still will often feel completely outclassed by these duderinos. Nice bunch, they're just all cunts
There's quite a few engines for the old quake games that update the graphics and add physics and stuff. If you're playing the vanilla GOG or command line version of quake, you need to get with the times.
dialup was fine you needed a good machine to run the game though. if you were getting 5 fps its because you probably playing some on off the shelf compaq or pack bell machine that had no 3d card. if it was your net connection the game would run fine but all your actions and inputs would be really laggy and you'd be rubberbanding all over the place.
op here, i downloaded radiant actually. i had a hell of a time with setting it up but i got some progress made. 1.6 was a mess and seemed really unstable. 1.4 seemed to have issues making a bsp file. it only would shit out .map and the .aas files. i ended up spending an entire afternoon before trying 1.5 which seems to just work.
is there any solid resources available for learning radiant? i edited a demo map with some textures i made, ive exported it as a functioning .bsp into my baseq3 reg, and can run around it fine, but idk how to generate the .aas file for bots in radiant 1.5.
ive only been at this for 2 days but my uktimate goal would be to make some custom models, to go with custom made maps. Kind of like a mini total conversion.
eh, I just play for fun. in some games you can top the scoreboards by just playing hard for a week, but i understand quake isnt like that with all of its obscure tactics and tricks like rocket jumps. i just want to play for fun on a team, as long as im on the winning side idc if im first or second or 5th place.
i was running the game vanilla on a simple laptop, but the laptop itself seemes fine and ran games like mechwarrior 4 perfectly. (as well as quake 3 online with max bots) i really just think its was my aol dial up connection i had. any online server gave me like 5 fps and i feel like i missed out.
cpma discord is full of butthurt trannies, furries and scalefags, pure garbage just like their babbytier mod
All good my dude, just wanted to make you aware of CPM, and its pitfalls.
cpma player here, I'm not sure if any of this is true, but all cpm players are huge fags
op here, is that the head of the discord? they look like theyve been playing q3 for a while. i understand your point now. can you give me a short descripion of what cpm is and how it differs from the base gane?
honestly dude, in any group of people only 5 or 10 percent will be cool to talk with so i wasnt expectinf that discord to be any different
can you give me a quick run down on cpm as well as your shared image
Yeah I know about the others, I just made poor assumption that GOG would actually sell a functioning game. There's no config file, and console commands don't work. I want the ugly old brown version, I only expected basic functionality on changing resolution, and I'm not buying it again.
maye buy the game physically on ebay and get a usb cd reader to install it if you need one. thats what i did for quake 3. parodxicallt the cd version of old games are cheaper often times than a digital copy.
>cpma
its right there
fuck you
Basically cpm is what happens when people looked at q3 and said" this is too casual".
They took the best bits from quake 3 and quake 1 and threw in a bunch of their own shit. It's fucking great.
As for the image, one day I just found it in my quake folder and its haunted me ever since.
I just play xonotic now, i really need a real working 119 fov on ultrawide and the cap is 120 on CPMA, ET works fine on jaymod but on silent i just play on 1080 windowed
