That's a sequel, not a remake. But you got me there, I didn't specify remakes. Though I feel like a remake like this could generate higher expectations because there's already so much to compare it to (ie OG FF7) before it even arrives. Plus the time gap between FF7 and FF&R is even bigger than the gap between HL1 and the death knell of HL3, let alone HL2.

FF7R is easily the highest profile project we've seen in the gaming world in a very long time, as noted the only game that could outdo it would be HL3. Obviously one is a remake and one is a new game but the point stands, as a remake specifically it's maybe even a bit harder because of the situation SE is in now. It's the 2nd best of the PS1 Trilogy.
It does have problems, namely that combat is REALLY slow and you NEED Auto-Haste and to set battle speed to max to get FF7's base speed. Princess Garnet does a lot of stupid things that cause a lot of problems, the becomes perma-mute status for a bit which hurts as she's a white mage then does retarded CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. Beatrix exists simply as an in story fail state to our heroes to stop them from getting anywhere and then fucks off once she face turns.
Story goes really sudden and weird in the 3rd disc. And the Final Boss just pops out of nowhere.
Apart from that though, the game is great.

No, it's carried entirely by its charm. The battle system is embarrassingly slow with a massive delay between giving a command and them doing it, parties and characters are fixed until disc 3 and the ones you are given are constantly the least effectual and redundant, going from no white mages to two.
