What the fuck is up with these grey villagers that wander around attacking? I thought they were only supposed to spawn near a village, and I am a full two days walk from any village. Yet every other day there is a group of them wandering around my farm, I go and kill them, drink some milk to get rid of the debuff, then I can go about my day. Nothing but a fucking annoyance, half the time they kill each other with arrows while I just block them.

I've got nothing but a basic farm for potatoes, some wheat, and a small strip mine I just dug down to bedrock. New seed put me between a forest and rainforest biome, with a river biome nearby as well. There are a fuck ton of cave systems around, which was great for a few stacks of early coal and iron, but bad for mining down to find diamonds. Had to run half a day just to find a spot that wasn't riddled with holes.

Part of the problem. Made it annoying to explore and build; the two POINTS of the game.

I think the main culprit though is both nerfing these fuckers and allowing players to become gods. If you get a full set of enchanted armor, you're basically a tank. I remember the first year I played how terrifying ravines were because a creeper falling on top of you was instant death regardless. I remember seeing a creeper down a dark cave and backing the fuck off instead of trying to plow through because I found 30 diamonds and was nervous. All of that went away with updates, as well as the excitement.

Everyone keeps misunderstanding how phantoms work in multiplayer. You don't need sleep, you just need to lay in bed for half a second. Doing that keeps new phantoms from spawning, but the ones that already spawned will still be around.

What's the best major content mod these days? I remember having fun with Thaumcraft years ago but I don't even know if it was the best back then, let alone now that it's been dead for a year.

not him, but "reactors" are energy-creating multiblock machines that usually generate a fictional currency that works as "energy" to power up and fuel other machines from the same mod
you use those energy-making blocks to power up other blocks, that can do a wide array of actions
you can have grinders that multiply the yeld of ore smelting, "electric" smelting that uses energy instead of fuel (think of solar panels creating "energy" and using said energy to smelt ingots) and so on
there's a ridiculous amount of machines and all of them do an insane amount of shit
you can have really basic stuff like windmills, solar panels, coal burners etc and then you can go fucking wild with triple lava reactors, uranium nuclear reactor and much much more
part of the challenge of these packs is to climb the tech tree and manage to create the big endgame machines, all while automatizing the whole resource\digging gameplay aspect, as endgame components require hundreds of thousands of diamonds and similar extremely precious components
it's a challenge, and many like it
especially since if you fuck up, a reactor can explode and annihilate pretty much everything + taint the world with radiations

it's best to just download 1 or 2 mods at a time and learn them that way. If you download a large modpack you are going to get lost and lose interest.

A good mod to try out is Tinker's Construct. You craft your equipment in pieces and each part can be made with different materials that have special attributes. These work separately from vanilla tools and weapons so you can always go back to the old ways whenever you feel like it.

Tech and Kitchen Sink will nearly ALWAYS have a reactor of some sort. The one I'm using is from a mod called Mekanism.

Usually magic mods have...magic based stuff. Which is also good. Thaumcraft is the best.

I think the only tech mod I really ever used was Immersive Engineering.
It's actually pretty neat.

I stopped playing originally when they added the hunger meter, but I recently picked the game up on switch out of curiosity. So many new things have been added since I last played, new animals and block types. It's been pretty comfy so far, but I don't like how the game feels balanced around minmaxing and creating automated shit for everything. I've enjoyed building a little house with a wheat farm, but there's very little progression after finding diamond and visiting the nether. Terraria has so much more content in comparison- Minecraft still seems to rely on its core gameplay loop which is pretty much unchanged. Everyone seems to build mob farms to generate XP and materials so they can spam enchantments. Am I suppoed to just look for strongholds or something? I have no idea.

Yeah, I never got into that shit. I play minecraft to build shit and mine. If I want to do a hacky slashy adventury-do I'll play a hack and slash game.

The first few hours of Minecraft are 10/10 IMO. Surviving the first night, gathering shit to build a house, gradually exploring your first cave and the feeling of returning home to safely stash your finds. Once you have a comfortable amount of diamonds the game's basically over for me. I have no motivation to build a more extravagant house since there's nothing I need protecting from. I end up building a nice looking medium sized house and throwing a fence around it, and then nothing is ever a threat anymore. It's not that I want a hack and slash adventure, I want a reason to make my house more defended/sturdy. It'd be grindy, but needing stronger walls as the game progresses and enemies get stronger would be enough. There'd be a reason to mine more and reinforce walls with iron blocks. As it is now you're fine with a house built from logs and planks as long as you have a fence.

I really wanted to get into Minecraft at some point, but vanilla is quite boring, and modding it is frustrating (I also thought it was pointless for them to add survival mechanics, which further killed my motivation then I simply stopped trying). I felt the same about playing TES and Fallout games on PC to take advantage of those things, but in the end, I always spend more time researching mods than actually play the damn games. Not to mention I then have to worry about compatibility, load order, and check each mod for updates, which also has the potential to break something.

If there was one true mod pack that would add new content like factories (I especially like that sort of stuff, but needs to be accompanied by a whole set of unique obstacles and challenges), weapons, as well as new powerful enemies/threats to justify all of the above and so on and so forth, that I could simply drag and drop to X folder and never having to worry about it again, I'd be willing to give it another try.

Issue is that by making enemies stronger, then you pretty much force the player to start mining for say iron to reinforce their walls instead of doing what they want. Or you are forcing the player to build in a certain way or risk losing everything after a certain point in the game. I get what you are saying, but minecraft started out open, do whatever you want. Its gotten away from that, I feel.

That's true. Maybe they make it like Terraria where breaking a certain item or block type hidden underground will spawn more difficult mobs. The block could be an ore only used for stronger weapons and armor, so it could be completely ignored by people not interested in that playstyle. Creepers are already kinda messed up if you think of the original vision anyway. All players have to consider defense against them or else half their house will get wiped by a creeper stood on the opposite side. You could even throw that ore in the nether to further distance it from "build" players, and it'd also fit nicely after the progression to diamond.

I like the useless mobs I think they add flavor to the game. What's annoying is that you have to haul ass across the map and RNG luck into the right biome to see half the new shit in the game. They should add more abandoned structures and weird oddities so there's a wide variety of naturally occurring curiosities to run into

I like the complexity added for lategame Gtech, the problem with it is the retarded amount of microcrafting required to get to those points.
A man can only craft so many hammers/chisels/wrenches/saws/screwdrivers/pliers before he goes fucking insane.

A shield blocks out all explosion damage unless they are touching you.
So if you just carry a shield in your offhand 24/7 you can't be hit unless something hits from behind.

Spellbound Caves is a solid classic of the genre, Ragecraft 2 and 3 are awesome, as is SP03 - Entropy.
I mean, you don't need mods to join, but as the video shows, there's a lot of non-vanilla stuff in there. Like all the class abilities. There's loads of plugins and custom mechanics.
The new region comes with class expansions that add pretty cool new abilities

Mojang has lost all sense of direction and now Minecraft has become this big amorphous blob of random shit.

If only they would get down to improving the core essence of the game (i.e. exploring and homesteading). We just need a new set of biomes and mini-biomes to create more variance in the world gen, and an improved cave system so the underground is actually something interesting again.

Granted, it's nice to be able to swim properly, and the scaffolding was a neat idea with all those other functional blocks (stonecutter, blast furnace, etc.)

I remember that Terraria (last time I played, which was really long ago) encouraged building arenas as a way to prepare for boss fights, as well as constructing houses for yourself and NPCs well above ground level because of the enemies that eventually show up at harder stages. I liked that in principle. Whereas with Minecraft, I could just build a hole in the ground and stay there indefinitely.
