Should I get Disgaea 5 or Disgaea 4? I played the first 3 a long time ago.
Should I get Disgaea 5 or Disgaea 4? I played the first 3 a long time ago
Yes.
I've only played D5, so D5.
D4 is the better game but the best version is on Vita.
Disgaea 5 is my first one and I’ve got 110 hrs logged on my switch. I hear 5 has the best wuslity of life improvements, and playing the old ones will have you missing certain upgrades.
Wait for D4 to come to PC
hahahahaha "wuslity"
Disgaea 5 Complete offers the better experience, but keep in mind that if you play it first, you probably aren't going to want to go back and play 4. You never really realize how much the quality of life improves between games until you try to backslide on them.
D5 is a piece from the masters
If you do play Disgaea 5, definitely get it on the Switch if the option's available. Once you've played Disgaea on a handheld, you'll never want to go back. Grinding while watching a movie or taking a shit is a hell of a lot better than being stuck on your TV or monitor.
What platforms do you have?
If we're talking the Vita version of 4, it has more content but 5 is easier to get into. If you don't own a Vita, go with 5. If you do, either is fine.
4 is fine to go back to after 5, I've found. 3 is pushing it and 1 and 2 are real rough to go back to though.
>Disgaea 5 is my first one and I’ve got 110 hrs logged on my switch.
That makes me happy. I hope more people get into the series through 5 on Switch. It's a legitimately amazing game.
4 is the best game of the series for various reasons but 5 has a lot of excellent new mechanics that makes the game enjoyable.
I would like to say wait for D4 PC but knowing NIS that might take a decade.
I logged 5 hrs on the free demo and pulled the trigger. Disgaea 5 Complete has made me a fan.
I want to get D5 for my switch, but I'm almost certain that if I do, I'll play through the story and then say "Yeah, I'll get back to it." and never get back to it. Basically, is it worth it for the story, or is all of the great new additions post-game?
The demo was great, I put a good amount into the demo on PS4 back when that happened. IIRC you could even unlock a fair amount of classes pretty easily, and save transferred too.
>is it worth it for the story
Not at all.
Long-time fans will tell you that the main game is just the tutorial before the real thing, but it is fully-featured. Disgaea 5 is also the least stingy when it comes to unlocking optional content. You can unlock some of the grinding maps during your regular playthrough and you can go after the cameo DLC characters whenever you want, with their levels being adjusted depending on what chapter you're on. So you won't be getting the full experience if you don't dive into the post-game, but you won't be getting cheated either.
D4
Even better, easy to pirate
I started with 1 and played like that until 4. You absolutely can enjoy the games just for their main story which have minimal grind. The main story is typically somewhere around 20 to 30 hours and is mechanically designed like any other TRPG, so is just as interesting to play.
Thanks, anons. I'll try it out and hopefully I'll stick around for most of the post-game stuff. I've always enjoyed seeing people get Lv.999 characters. That, and the item world is always fun.
>D5 has the best wuslity of life improvements
>the postgame is still dull mind-numbing grind
This is my first foray into Disgaea postgame, and I platinumed the game (fuck Baal though), but by the end of it I was not having fun.
Contrary to what a lot of people say, it's best to play these games for the story.
I'm looking forward to D6 still, but I'm not looking forward to capturing ten billion Asagis to max out my stats all over again.
I usually stop about where i need to grind innocents
Gameplay wise it's a bit of a toss up. A lot of long time fans of the series prefer 4's gameplay, but just as many prefer the much more streamlined and simlified mechanics in 5.
Story wise D4 is generally considered to be one of the best games in the series, people usually name D1 or D4 as their favorites. On the other hand's D5's story and characters are extremely generic and easily amongst the worse.
If game length matters to you D4 wins there as well, as long as it's the Vita version at least which you should absolutely get over the original one since it added a metric fuckton of extra content. Even vanilla D4 still has a bit more content than D5 though.
