From what I've seen, FF7 fans seem to hate any Final Fantasy that isn't 7, especially ones that some people think are better. They're like genwunners, if people aren't theirs isn't praised as the best, they're faggots/trannies/niggers/ect.

I like the FANTASY part of Final Fantasy and will always hate VII for turning the series into what it currently is (IX was a return to form and the only good 3D FF)

The only character that really resonated with me was Shadow. FF6 just had such a huge cast and so many multiple focal points it was hard to really care about any individual character or find them memorable. Shadow was the only character fleshed out to point you gave a damn about them

Because no matter what your opinion of 6, 7, or 9 is there's still something to talk about. 8 was bland, boring, and ultimately forgettable.

FFVI and FFVII are both transitional games that divide the early games from the newer ones and have characteristics of both but this can elicit very different views depending on whether you are a fan of the older or newer games. A lot of fans of newer FF games see VII as "nothing special compared to VIII" and VI as "the first good Final Fantasy game" while old school fans see VI as "nothing special compared to V" and VII as "The last good Final Fantasy game".

Those two are canonically considered as the Best games in the franchise.

DKC was considered a graphical monstrosity/abortion by a significant faction of people including myself. Textured phong shading to 256 colors was not a good look, ever.

Well, generally what happened is a new "generation" of kids grew up just enough to pay attention to shit like video games or whatever and FFVII was their first FF game as their first console was a PSX. It doesn't help that FFVII is arguably the best FF game post SNES (arguably, you can say IX or Tactics or whatever else, but there's a strong contingent supporting FFVII). When FFVII came out, I remember not really caring for it overmuch as I felt the story went to shit after the party leaves Midgard and I absolutely despised the loading times.

The reason FFVII fans hate FFVI fans is that they believe, either correctly or incorrectly, that FFVIfags are blinded by nostalgia and SNES-tier graffix and thus have an unwarranted sense of superiority in that "old game gud, new game bad" type of way.

I experience trash talking in that I feel the story is superior in FFVI and I like the characters more. So then the FFVIIfags will harp with rants about "thou" and "son of a submariner" and all the other crap that's poorly written in FFVI. But it's a jrpg. It's anime tier anyway.

I'm not a huge fan and I don't hate FF6, but it might have something to do with how restrictive FF6 is in comparison.
Going from FF games like 7, 5, and 12 that give you a ton of control over how to build your party to games like 4, 6, and 9 where you're just playing with tools the game gives you can be a little boring sometimes. Pre-determined party loadout and character roles can be nice because then bosses and areas can be tailored to the skills the game has given you, but nothing beats coming up with your own party configuration that performs better.

Also a lot of americans have nostalgia bias for games like 4 and 6 while openly bashing 13 when they share a LOT in common, and it's frustrating to watch.

Character art style wise, I've come to realize the limitations of SNES era sprites was good to Square's artists. After the 3D era as hardware allowed them to do whatever they wanted, the character designs became more grotesque and retarded, the whole 5 belts on the arm because reasons shit, irregular spiky hair and so on. I know if they could have HD sprites in the SNES era they would do exactly what they have done in later games. It's one of those cases where the limitations benefited the game because the artists are fucking insane.

I don't know,both games are incredible tho.
If I have to choose one I would say FFVI since I was blown away since the first minute and I just loved every party member and their individual backstory.
FFVII was fucking awesome too but it took me some time to really get into the world and the story.It's weird but enjoy it a lot more in retrospective than what I did while playing it.

FFVII is oddly very replayable (more than VI i-m-o), have you done it yet? I hated stuff like the sudden change in tone between Midgar and the first time you go to the overworld but that and many other things grew on me eventually

I played VI, VII and then tried IV, just liked VI evne though I didn't finish it, didn't like VII and IV for different reasons, then skipped the rest.

To me it's the most middle of the road entry I've ever played. It's not good, it's sequels were way way better. But it's not as terrible as the memes make it out to be. I had a decent time, but wasn't blown away. Outrage culture ruined the game's reputation of being an actual ho-hum entry.

XV was pretty much the same feelings, but on a more positive perspective.

I can get that, except I hated the sequels more as I played them and I guess thats seeped into my feelings for XIII. It doesn't help that the characters are so unlikeable

7 has very impressive presentation. the backgrounds still look amazing today even with the dated graphics. also it just kicks so much ass right off the bat. all of the characters have a lot more personality and the music is a lot better too. the setting is also much more unique and interesting.
both of the games have pretty stupid stories so far, but 7 feels a lot more charming and self-aware. 6 just feels dated.

I enjoyed both halves, even the original striped down solo chapter. But wasn't blown away. I have mixed feelings on the end too. Sucked that the end results was what it was, but it better served the story IMO. Although the alt/end in Ep:Ignis was much much better. I also liked how important almost every bit of XV Universe was, even Comrades.

Not even, Sazh is by and the large the best character in XIII. And Lightning's only good, ironically, when she has her emotions removed in Lightning Returns.

If you're going to play the SNES version like that user suggested I need to warn you that there's quite a few glitches fixed in Advance, but there's fan patches to fix them for the SNES release as well.
