>Do you know how the the isekai genre first came into being? It was Christian children’s fantasy once, taken by the self inserting powers. Market saturated and chinkified… A lazy and dishonest form of fantasy.
>And now, perfected. My autistic Frenchmen.
Do you know how the the isekai genre first came into being? It was Christian children’s fantasy once...
Not gonna lie, that outfit looks cool
Are you talking about Narnia?
Vampire knights are inherently effay
Narnia is where the isekai genre branched off from the Hero’s Journey
picrel
Does princess of mars count as isekai? It was 1912. I might look into this requiem thing.
You know what, you’re absolutely right. I forgot all about John Carter
I love isekai
then why not put your head on train tracks?
How is requiem isekai? How did you learn of it, user? And why do I have the feeling there a werewolf fucker in it? And why do I have Sir Christopher Lee‘a metal music in my head?
Because I live in America and our public transportation system is nonexistent
>How is requiem isekai?
Nazi man dies and gets transported into another world?
Isekai is just native isekai with self insertion.
Then you hate anime. To love isekai is to desire the death of anime.
a Requiem anime would be pretty sick.
>How is requiem isekai?
A Nazi dies and goes to an alternate dimension
>How did you learn of it, user?
Local comic shop
>And why do I have the feeling there a werewolf fucker in it?
right on the money
Mark Twain wrote a Yankee in King Arthur’s Court in 1889
Agreed. Which studio would do it justice?
Nazi man fucks hot werewolf chick? Or Werewolf fucks vampire chick?
I see. What about Dante’s Divine comedy? Is that isekai?
>What about Dante’s Divine comedy? Is that isekai?
No its historical self insert fanfiction
The Wizard Knight by Gene Wolf is an example of western isekai. It's pretty good too, very high-fantasy without the usual problems high-fantasy has.
soo.. isekai?
Dont know of any isekai writer that wrote the people he disliked to be in hell and the people he liked to be heaven
Also the theme of movement = closeness to god and other themes are really well done In dante's comedy
A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court came out before John Carter.
That's historical revision at its worst.
The truth is that isekai was THE contrarian medium at a time where ridiculously scaling underdog shounenshits with unbearably moralfaggy MCs were dominating the market.
It's not an isekai, but why do you think OPM became popular? Because in the early 2010s the mainstream was nothing but jobber MCs who ontop of being crybabies were also firm believers in "if you kill him you'll be just like him" and other such moralfagging. OPM went against this flow by having the complete opposite kind of MC who became overpowered but was originally a battlefag which he didn't truly realize before it was too late.
On the isekai side you had Mushoku Tensei for example where the MC is complete scum at the start, and was a contrarian to the moralfag MCs.
There was also Reincarnated as a Slime which turned the idea of red-shirt monsters being worthless and human lives being precious on its head, and showed how this sort of moralfagging can go completely backwards.
The isekai-hating GENTLEMEN are either underage and didn't know about this era to begin with, or are mainstreamfags who try their hardest to pretend that this absolute state of the industry wasn't a thing and thus rewrite history to meet their needs.
The big difference between Western "isekai" and the current Japanese trend is that Western isekai transports the body along with the mind whereas Japanese stuff is purely mind reincarnation (most of the time).
user beat you to it.
>reading both bastard!! and chroniques de la lune noire growing up
retarded dark fantasy kino at its finest, those were the days
Vampire chick rapes werewolf
Read it. Artwork is great. Subject matter is questionable at best and the writers are both fags. You guys would love it.
>Which Studio Should Do it Justice?
Khara. I wanna see Requiem in a Pizza Hut ad.
Man, that’s fucking hot. Any other stuff like requiem? Dark fantasy wise, not werewolf fucking wise.
>Khara
Would that mean it would get its own clothing line too?
Fuck yes. Now you're thinking!
The big difference is that John Carter was popular enough in Japan that it actually does get acknowledged as something modern isekai is derived from. A lot of the other "pre-isekai" series weren't.
>MCs who ontop of being crybabies were also firm believers in "if you kill him you'll be just like him" and other such moralfagging.
Shounen protagonists have never been moral faggy. Not Goku, Not Luffy, not even Naruto, especially not kenshiro. You are right about the underdog stuff. People started wanting the MCs to get everything they wanted in the first episode with no effort.
I thought it was because Louise was hot.
would be hype as fuck for this
Is this a manga ir novel
What about Alice in Wonderland?
comic.
>Luffy isn't a moralfag because he said that people die in war that one time
>Divine Comedy
>Self-insert isekai
No way its a... uh... exactly that actually
Thats just Lewis Carroll
Or Charles Dodgeson...
Maybe?
All I remember was that American McGee’s Alice was all in her hands. I’m drunk.
Yes and isekai is the same thing now as the shounen shit you are talking about was in the past
the market is saturated with lazy isekai with unoriginal DQ style / generic fantasy settings, gamelit elements, and mmo tropes. Not to mention overpowered mcs
Ok, luffy is a moral fag (just barely) but thats one example.
What other examples do you have?
Many shounen protags were not moralfags.
What time period are you even talking about?
Luffy set free the worlds worst criminals just to save his brother I don't think that's moralfagging.
More like all in her head (kind of)
McGee's version is has actual development where Lewis' written word makes it much easier to self insert.
Alice in wonderland is the only good isekai
Slaine: The Horned God I guess. Shares the same writer as Requiem too. It's setting is completely different though, more Celtic barbarian fantasy.
More Yea Forums relevant is Bastard!!, in terms of being an irreverant dark fantasy comic with god-tier art.
Really though, Requiem itself is one of a kind. You're better off checking stuff by the same creators. Sha would be a good place to start as that's also a Pat Mils and Oliver Ledroit collab. After that you can check out there work separately and use that as a gateway to other brit-bong and european comics and writers.
My wife Bathory is so cute...
oh yeah?
Why are you talking about French Comics? Fuck off to Yea Forums
>bastard anime soon
Loving this timeline bruvs
Volume 12 when
No way they would do the art justice. Well they could, but it would probably be too expensive
>Nazi man fucks hot werewolf chick? Or Werewolf fucks vampire chick?
Technically the Nazi vampire fucks his Jewish gf
Maybe you might like this. Same artist but different author iirc
French comic
Isekai do tend to be a more self centered/preservation type.
Its still funny how they had to make a "can't hurt each other" rule in Isekai Quartet because otherwise some of the characters would absolutely start conspiring against each other.
>Mark Twain wrote a Yankee in King Arthur’s Court in 1889
Lucian of Samosata wrote a story about travel's getting blown away by a magic storm to space and hanging out with aliens in the 2nd century AD.
>Do you know how the the isekai genre first came into being? It was Christian children’s fantasy once
The Bible? When you think about what is Jesus but a guy who got reincarnated into another world.
Ledroit also started a new serie about a guy with synesthesia who go throw an esoteric journey after opening his third eye and start seeing magic flux, demon, spirit and other. It goes deep in esoterism it would make /x/ jizz their pants
