That. Of course an anime can't be as detailed as a long VN. And still this isn't capturing the feeling of it very well. They are changing around a few things about the story for convenience. I guess for a streamlined version of the story it's ok, but if you really want the true YU-NO experience you should play the original VN.

The reason she's "fated" to die is because the Reflector only lets you move through events within a limited window of time (48 hours), which is far too narrow to be able to undo the events that lead to her death. It would be a different story if the Reflector could go back a month or two months to prevent Mitsuki from being around fake Ryuuzouji or getting Niarb'd.
