If you don't know why this is Problematic™ and doomed the Fallout franchise despite how great the games were, I dunno what to tell you. Basically, white people are some of the few people who have a romantic view of anything before the late 1960's. It doesn't matter how many diverse people you shoehorn into the setting. The entire map is drab and beige/gray/green. It's almost too realistic, which is why they went hard with adding color with the DLCs. No matter how big it was, it was always going to feel small. Despite being a great game, they utterly goofed with the art direction by going full retard.

You should just play them. Remember to save scum. You need to pick the right SPECIAL and skills too. They're old school unforgiving RPGs. I usually go as light as possible on strength and endurance and heaviest on agility, perception, luck and intelligence. A lot of the skills are jank, go for the one that gives you a +1 to all special, repair and then I usually pick wild wasteland

The Fallout aesthetic is Atomic Age / Atompunk but post-apocalyptic. White nerds have been trying to meme this aesthetic back into fashion (along with Steampunk/Victorian, art deco, etc) for like 15 years since they found each other on the internet. The peak was probably around Fallout 3 and Bioshock. The fun part is that most of them have no idea what they're into and how it's perceived (look up the saga of "Dr. Steel" and his fans). It's great seeing the looks on their faces when they realize that black and brown people basically associate all those aesthetics with racism. They just think it's a cool, more fashionable time that was more innocent and optimistic. FWIW, I share their sentiments but I have no delusions about what it means.

For example I set strength I think to 4 and endurance sometimes as low as 2 (it goes by 2s) and I max agility to 10 and then get luck, perception and intelligence to like 9. Charisma literally doesn't matter in FO1. In FO2 I recommend having 5 charisma so you can get 3 followers when you get the extra point.
